Welcome to Issue 32... Autumn is here! I really love this time of the year and although it can be a bit disheartening that it signals the end of summer and dark nights it really is a magical season with lots of fun things to do and of course we bring you the best that our great County has to offer. Autumn brings us colourful leaves on the trees, and then on the floor for the kids to play in! Conkers to hunt for, October half term, Halloween, Bonfire Night and it also means that Christmas is just around the corner! Comfort food just has to be eaten and even the television is better. A big thank to those of you who voted for Nadine Peatfield, the Managing Director of Lots for Tots Ltd, who was shortlisted for the Mum and Working Franchisor of the Year award! Hundreds applied and Nadine made it to the finals in London. We have added a list of where to find Santa in Derby this year, please see pages 28-29. Laying the foundations for a bright future Derby High is pleased to announce that from January 2016 our Pre-School and Infant pupils will be housed in a brand new, purpose built infant school building on the Primary School site. Once completed, the new building will be two storeys high with eight classrooms, a hall and additional outside learning space.

Building work is currently underway with the children taking a huge interest in watching their new school emerge. Keen to get involved, the children have taken part in a ‘name the digger’ competition and each form at Derby High Primary has planted a hard hat hanging basket to brighten up the building site.

Michelle Hannaford, Head of Derby High Primary, is very much looking forward to this development for the school. “We are very excited to have the opportunity to create a modern, spacious environment for the boys and girls and to enhance our provision for the primary-aged children at Derby High.”

Beat Feet Academy of Dance win the Dance School of the Year Award...

Beat Feet Academy of Dance have returned to Derby victorious after the Dance School of the Year Awards. The Mickleover dance school

were honoured for their achievements and were announced as the overall category winner at the prestigious ball in Devon, which hosts the final of the competition. The Academy was praised for its success over the past year by the competitions judge, Kathryn Wade (first English National Ballet School Director) who had chosen Beat Feet Academy of Dance for the title over schools from Switzerland, Belgium and Australia.

The Academy’s Principal, Julie Latham was presented with a beautiful trophy and described as “a very worthy winner.” Julie said “We are delighted with the win! It is wonderful to be awarded this fantastic title by such reputable judges who have praised our work. I am extremely proud of our students and the Academy’s achievements.” The Beat Feet Academy has weekly classes for children from two years old and also offers holiday clubs, birthday parties and wedding dance tuition.
