Old Vicarage School There is something special about the Old Vicarage School‌ As a family run prep school and nursery, OVS can offer excellent care and unrivalled personal attention. We want all parents with children attending our nursery to feel the same sense of security they feel when leaving their children in the care of family members.
Set in beautiful grounds, our Nursery and School feels like a home from home, where every child is given the opportunity to excel and reach their full potential. Our fees are capped at affordable prices so that an independent education can be accessible to families. Our maximum class size of 18 ensures personal attention for every child. Do come and see for yourself. There is no better nursery setting for your child. Matthew Adshead Headmaster
What do excellent parents want for their child? They want the best. In our nursery we cherish every child as if they were our own, with love, support and guidance. We want each child to strive for personal bests. We achieve this by being fiercely ambitious for them, alongside offering each child the love and support they need to grow and develop.

Derby Arm Boat Lift A STEM Education Tool The Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust in partnership with RollsRoyce has installed a working scale model of the Derby Arm Boat Lift into the Local Studies Library in Derby. The Derby Arm concept is a 30m high electro-mechanical structure that would lift canal boats out of the restored Derby Canal and place them into the river Derwent (and vice versa), allowing boats on the UK canal
network to travel in to the very centre of Derby, up to the Silk Mill. The model has been designed as a STEM education tool for children of all ages and the library has STEM activity packs to go with it. The model will be in the local studies library throughout 2018 and will be an interesting exhibit for families to call in and visit over the school holidays. www.derbycanal.org.uk

Twistin Tikes Relaunching Twistin Tikes – innovative music classes for 3-4 year olds and the elderly Twistin Tikes – a company owned and run by Twistin Tots – is about to start offering new music classes to 3 and 4 year olds and their parents in Care Homes. Twistin Tikes has been operating for 4 years – in Nurseries and as a PAYG class. While these classes are still very popular with nurseries, the latter stopped in December 2017. However, in April Twistin Tikes will be relaunched in Care Homes enabling parents and their children to have fun and interact with elderly residents. Jacqui Davis, owner of Twistin Tots and Twistin Tikes says, “I’ve been thinking of starting an initiative of this nature for about seven years, as my mum has dementia and loves being surrounded by children. One of my customers – who was then a Manager of five Care Homes – suggested that I bring my classes to her Care Homes in 2011. However, at the time, I was delivering classes full time and had no hours to spare. The business is now expanding though and we have extra staff on board, so I am keen to take this forward.’
“There is lots of activity in this area at present and research has proven the benefits to both elderly residents and young children - from increasing selfesteem and promoting friendships to greater smiles and more conversation for elders. Plus the old and young bring new energy, knowledge and enthusiasm to each others’ lives, building relationships, and helping each person to benefit from the knowledge and attitudes of each other.’ “Our Twistin Tikes classes will aim to get the young and old working together to have fun – hunting for bears, swimming with goldfish, or tapping toes, amongst other musical activities – helping older residents to get more active and to socialise more and younger ones to develop their speech, language and motor skills and benefit from the time and attention that the elderly residents can offer. I am very excited about it!” Care Homes are currently being approached to gauge interest and it is hoped to be able to offer this at a number of Care Homes throughout Derbyshire after Easter. If you would like to be involved with this initiative – and have children aged two and a half to four – please text Jacqui Davis on 07977 578359 to register your interest. www.twistintots.co.uk

Rockabillies Musical fun for everyone! At Rockabillies we offer music groups for everyone from 6 months up to our adult Rock choir on Wednesday evenings! Our Under 3 groups take place in the mornings at our beautiful premises on Gibb St in Long Eaton. Our 3+ groups are on Monday and Tuesday afternoons at 1.30pm. All our sessions are run by professional music leaders who play a variety of instruments, sing and lead the carefully planned 45 minute music sessions. We explore world music, tie in with festivals and events and make sure each term is an exciting mix of musical activities to educate, inspire and entertain. We use many Kodaly methods in our sessions and the children progress quickly in their understanding of pulse, pitch and tuneful singing Each session has a short “Disco” with colourful lights and rocking beats where we all get to strut our stuff together! t Learn abouts instrumen
