Broomfield Hall Food Hub Opens

4

Derby College has opened a new Food Hub at Broomfield Hall in Morley to help local people to learn how to grow their own produce as well as helping current local producers to sell their own produce. The new facility is open daily between 10am and 4pm with a café and shop serving and stocking locally produced food from chocolates and cakes to organic meat and vegetables. Visitors can also enjoy the spectacular gardens at the historic Broomfield Hall and visit the Plant Centre. The Food Hub has been supported by £299,000 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Local Food scheme. Head of Broomfield Hall Louise Curd said: “The Food Hub has various different aspects which share the common theme of encouraging and supporting local people of all ages and from a range of cultural backgrounds to grow and make their own produce. As well as the shop and café featuring locally-made and grown produce, we will be working closely with community growing schemes and local schools as well as setting up short training courses to inspire and upskill people to join this growing trend.” For more information or if you are interested in the Broomfield Food Hub, please contact Derby College on 01332 520200 ext 6618 www.lotsfortots.co.uk

Sat 2nd April 11am & 2pm Blunderbus Present: The Dragon’s Daughter Derby Theatre Studio, Westfield Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there stood a tiny village nestled in the shadow of a great mountain. Perched at the top of the mountain, lived a fire-breathing dragon. And this is where our story begins... In the village below, a little boy called Hans spent his days imagining the most fantastic adventures. He would pretend to fight scary monsters, search for buried treasure, and slay fairytale dragons. But one starry night, a tiny ball of light fell from the sky, crashing to the ground with a silent thud. And there, lost in the darkness, was a real-life baby dragon. Holiday Coaching This February Half Term with Derby County in the Community

During school holidays we operate our very popular coaching programmes. Set around the county and delivered by our team of highly skilled full-time and parttime coaches, the camps aim to provide outstanding value for money and a high quality football experience for all young participants. The activities undertaken by the children include; Olympics day, shooting and finishing skills as well as a whole host of fun games and tournaments. Courses run from 8:30am through to 3:30pm and can provide parents with a fantastic childcare opportunity. Our courses cater for children from Reception through to Year 6 (5 -11 year olds). Sessions are designed to be inclusive and are differentiated to each child’s needs. Our Holiday programme is not an elite programme; it is a grass roots provision. Our core delivery centres are based at Powerleague Soccerdome Pride Park. We have developed a host of satellite centres around the county to accommodate our

0

wider community. We work hard with our facility hosts and key partners to create a good value for money opportunity. Our two day Satellite centres cost ÂŁ20 whilst our city camps are priced at ÂŁ12.50 per day with discounts for weekly bookings. A huge addition to our programmes are the surprise appearances from our first team players and club mascot Rammie. Our club mascot and players enjoy taking part in all our programmes and especially like coming to meet the young players on our holiday programmes. The first 100 applicants for the Feb Half Term Coaching Programme will not only get 25% off but also receive 2 tickets to the Rams v Barnsley game on Sat 5th March 3pm! A good move... Second Time Movers Rhydian & Sarah talk about Wilsthorpe Meadows, Long Eaton

The sales trend at Westerman Homes development, Wilsthorpe Meadows in Long Eaton, is on the up. They recently sold three properties in less than seven days. The current phase of homes, on Hitchen Road, proved to be very popular from the moment they were released for sale and the first few proud owners have recently moved into their new homes. For Rhydian and Sarah Pile, this is their second Westerman home. They have just purchased a 4 bedroom Hampton house type at Wilsthorpe Meadows. They previously owned a Calder house type on the same development. Mr Pile comments “We first moved to Wilsthorpe Meadows 7 years ago. It was just my wife and I then, but we bought in the hope that it would one day become a family home. 7 years later we now have 2 children and were looking to move to something bigger. The problem was Wilsthorpe Meadows was so convenient, with shops and a lovely park right on our doorstep. It is also conveniently placed for commuting with the A52 and M1 closeby. So when we came to look at other developments they just didn’t measure. We knew that Westerman were still building on the site, so we paid a visit to the sales centre and were really impressed with the high specification of the fixtures and fittings that Westerman are

www.lotsfortots.co.uk

currently using. I would go as far as to say that they have really upped the ante on every level. The attention to detail in the finish of the homes is great, the choice and quality of the bathrooms and kitchens on offer is also really good. But what really sold it to us was the size of the plot the house is on. Westerman appear to be offering larger than average plots which will allow us to add to this house, if we start to feel we are outgrowing it. So no need to move again too soon! We are really happy and looking forward to spending Christmas in our new home. Currently on offer at Wilsthorpe Meadows are a range of four bedroom detached homes. Do you like the thought of starting 2011 in a beautiful new Westerman home? With homes that are selling as fast as these, they are sure not to be around for long! So to avoid disappointment we recommend a visit to the sales and information centre soon. It is open Thursday to Monday 11am to 5pm. They can be contacted on 0115 946 8363 for further details. info@lotsfortots.co.uk

Natural Born Swimmers

Swimming with your baby sounds lovely. And it is. In fact, it’s one of the most memorable, thrilling and bonding things the two of you will ever do.

But, along with the fun and great social aspects, there’s a lot of technical stuff to consider if you want to get the most from it. Which is why lots of parents choose to sign up to structured swimming lessons, like those offered by Marie Smith of Water Babies, the largest baby swim school in the East Midlands. Water Babies credits its success to three main ingredients, all of which of which have put them at the forefront of the industry. Extraordinary instructors - world-class professionals, passionately delivering a uniquely structured programme in a fun way that aims to teach parents how to teach their baby to swim.

Funky pre-school dance classes for girls and boys As you are probably very aware your toddler rarely wants to sit still. At diddi dance we realise and encourage this endless enthusiasm and energy, in an action packed full of fun 45minute dance class. We are the only pre-school dance program to explore over 10 different dance styles! Using action songs, dancing games, fun exercises, with many different props to our funky pop songs, your little one not only improves their rhythm and co-ordination but also social & gross motor skills. We change dance themes every 6 weeks exploring styles such as salsa, country, disco & many more catering for all tastes. Classes follow a structured plan, yet are taught in a relaxed atmosphere where your diddi one can learn at their own pace as their confidence builds. Parents & carers are encouraged to join in & share the enjoyment with their diddi dancer every week & keep fit too! Parties also available: We also bring dancing fun to your diddi one’s special day. You just book the venue or clear some space at home & leave keeping the diddi ones entertained to us! Using all the favourite dancing games & props we’ll make sure your diddi one’s party is the talk of the tots. To book your diddi one in for a free trial contact Debi 07805784445 or log onto the website www.diddidance.com and let the fun begin.

It takes more than 50 hours of work in the pool, at least 25 assessed lessons and 5 lots of internal and external exams to pass to be an instructor for Water Babies.

An extraordinary programme of lessons which is carefully structured - you wouldn’t ever want to start watching a film halfway through. “That’s the reason why our courses have a beginning, middle and carefully monitored progression that will see them swimming as soon as they are physically able - usually around thirty months,” explains Marie. Extraordinary results which speak for themselves. Technical expertise is one of the reasons why we’ve won four national awards - the first baby swimming company to do so. Three of the East Midlands instructors were also nominated as What’s On 4 Little Ones “Outstanding Class Leaders” - something Marie is very proud about! Water Babies run classes in Chesterfield, Belper and Derby. For more information please visit www.waterbabies.co.uk or phone 01636 815567

Story Corner After Adam and Eve had been turned out of the Garden of Eden, the earth lay frozen under the snows of the first winter. Eve sat weeping for her lost Paradise, where flowers bloomed all year round, birds sang sweetly and the animals played in the eternal warmth of spring. Eve sighed sadly, gazing out at the cold, silent, softly falling snow. Far above, an angel saw her weeping and was full of pity. He stretched out his hand and caught a single snowflake as it fell. Breathing upon it, he held it out to Eve. There it lay, transformed into a fragile snowdrop. “Take this,” said the angel, “as a token of Hope through the long winter. The earth is not dead, but sleeps. Spring will come again, in all its glory of bird song and budding flowers.” Sophie Snell is a Derby-based storyteller and can be heard telling her stories at Kedleston Hall on 12th / 13th March 2011 for their Tree Festival and again over Easter weekend.
