Greetings from the Team at Lotus Gardenscapes Four-Season Design for an Evolving Garden INTERIORS: bring THE outdoors in AUTUMN GARDEN MAINTENANCE urban farming: HARVEST TIME

News From Guido Dear Customers & Friends: Here at Lotus, we’re looking forward to the upcoming fall with its changing colors, fresh breezes, and golden sunshine. 2013 has been an extremely successful year for Lotus. We recently expanded our team, adding new field supervisors with specialties in custom woodworking and water feature design, and rounded out our design and office staff. New to the design staff are Jeff Findley, a project manager and designer recently transplanted from the Washington DC area, and design intern Katie Dennis. Interns Jonathan Lee and Maudie Smith were also here all summer. These changes have allowed us to successfully complete more projects than ever before, and the season isn’t over yet! It’s such a busy time of year -- in addition to being back-to-school time, the end of the summer also means harvest time for farmers and gardeners growing fruits and vegetables! Many local urban and suburban farms are brimming over with bounty. Read on to learn about one special local gardener and the exceptional success she has had this season! Finally, as this summer nears an end, our lives begin to shift indoors. It’s almost time to close up our gardens for the season, and begin thinking about interior projects. Early fall is an ideal time to plant perennials and trees, and to schedule seasonal garden maintenance and leaf cleanup. Our maintenance team is excited to help you prepare your landscape and garden for this upcoming winter. Shifting to interior spaces, now is also an opportune time to think about indoor container plantings, green walls, and other “interiorscape” elements that will provide aesthetic improvement and air quality benefits yearround. Stop by our offices anytime and feel free to call or email to schedule a free consultation to explore options for your landscape, indoors and out. Best, Guido & the Lotus Team

Lotus Gardenscapes offers a variety of Interiorscape styles and techniques to make your workplace, retail property, or home more appealing throughout the entire year. With our designers, make your home or office a memorable oasis people want to return to again and again.

Closing Your Garden As summer fades away and the weather cools down, make sure to not neglect your garden! Late summer and early fall are great times to plant many perennials and trees, when there is ample time for the plant’s root system to establish before the winter freeze. This season is also key for fall maintenance.

Urban Farms Everywhere you look these days there are examples of edible landscaping. Vegetable gardens and urban farms offer interesting focal points in the landscape while also producing food for personal enjoyment and sharing! Let yourself be inspired by late summer’s bountiful gardens and prepare your own for early spring 2014. We can help you design and plan over these fall and winter months!

Lotus Gardenscapes Inc. is excited to announce it’s expansion into indoor plantscaping. Lotus Feature Project

A Backyard Re-Imagined Fresh vegetables at arm’s length Our client wanted to transform her backyard lawn into an urban garden. The result? Artfully designed planting beds have produced fresh vegetables and herbs all season, and provided a gorgeous backdrop for spending the summer outdoors. Beautiful!

ardens can feed our bodies and our spritis, providing fresh food in addition to visual beauty. Our client Leila Matta was planning a complete overhaul for her backyard, hoping to transform it from a conventional lawn space into a multi-use outdoor landscape that could provide beauty and sustenance.

I

n the spring of 2013, Lotus began work on designing and installing an urban farm system with planting beds in a geometric design emanating from a central herb garden. Crushed stone was laid to provide a path for accessing the beds and seedlings were installed to begin to grow food. In the span of just one season, these seedlings exploded into large, healthy plants with mature, beautiful vegetables.

E

ventually, this backyard will also include a meditation space, built-in deck seating, and additional vegetable and flower gardens to provide blooms and produce throughout the season. We can’t wait to move into the next stage of this design with Leila Matta, our fabulous client!

n just one growing season, Leila Matta’s new planting beds produced incredible yields. She recently planted her cool-weather crops and looks forward to harvesting long into the fall!
