HISD | James Madison High School Houston, Texas

This 265,000 sq/ft project is located in Hiram Clark, a historically important but disadvantaged neighborhood of Houston. Madison High School is designed specifically to reflect the 21st century college preparatory education that the students receive, and represent the academic icon within the community. The building is marked by an honest expression of structure and envelope; vertical panels of concrete, curtainwall, translucent panel, and masonry give variation to a large expanse, and the steel interior is expressed throughout. This expression of use translates to the program as well. The major academic trades within the school are constantly on display, maintaining an exterior to interior relationship. The classrooms and labs create “neighborhoods that group specific courses together to support critical thinking, collaboration, and intercultural diversity throughout the school. AWARD AMCH Golden Trowel Excellence Award, Education Facility, 2019
