Margaret Hill Hunt Bridge Dallas, Texas
Designed by world-renowned designer Santiago Calatrava, this iconic 1,200foot bridge is part of the Woodall Rogers Freeway (Spur 366) extension across the Trinity River floodplain. A 430-foot-tall arch pylon supports the six- travel lane superstructure of this cable-stayed bridge. The deck cross section consists of a central box girder, cantilevered transverse steel floor beams, longitudinal stringers and a concrete deck. Huitt-Zollars was a subconsultant to Santiago Calatrava and served as the Structural Engineer-of-Record for this signature bridge. 7
Sound Transit Link Light Rail Project Seattle, Washington
Huitt-Zollars prepared the final design Section 700 of Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail Project. The line is approximately 8,000 feet in length, and composed of approximately 6,000 feet of surface construction, 2,000 feet of aerial structure main line, and 1,200 feet of the aerial connections to the maintenance facility located on Rainier Brewery property adjacent to Airport Way. Section 700 required extensive coordination with Seattle Public Utilities for utility relocation and Seattle City Light for relocation of a 230kV transmission line. Additional coordination was required with the Seattle Department of Transportation, Washington State Department of Transportation, Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railroad, King County Metro, and numerous private businesses. 9
Legoland® Winterhaven, Florida
Built on trhe former home of Cypress Gardens, LEGOLAND ® Florida is designed for families with children aages 23 to 12 featuring over 50 interactive and family-focused rides, shows and attractions, and a breathtaking botanical garden. This award-winning, artful, and wellexecuted park sits on the former Cypress Gardens site. Over 80% of existing trees on the site were saved through careful development of this theme park/resort. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™ Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida
At the far end of Diagon Alley™, stands the
goblin bank, Gringotts™. Inside, adventure awaits as you navigate your way through the perils of the Gringotts™ vaults on a groundbreaking, multi-dimensional thrill ride. Morris designed this award-winning addition to Universal Studios’ theme park in Orlando, Florida. The Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), the global alliance for the makers of compelling places and experiences, stated of this attraction: “… in the themed industry, (Diagon Alley is) the yardstick by which all will now be measured.” AWARDS •

Marriott Marquis Houston, Texas
The Marriott Marquis is a game-changing project in the heart of Houston’s downtown convention district. The 1.1 millions SF, 29-story building includes 1,000 guest rooms and over 100,000 SF of meeting and banquet space – all linked by sky bridge to Houston’s 2 million SF George R. Brown Convention Center. Envisioned as both a meeting destination and an urban resort, the Marriott Marquis features a 55,000 square foot outdoor amenity deck - 115 feet above street level and overlooking Discovery Green Park. This is not just any amenity deck. The Marriott Marquis features a 550’ lazy river in the shape of Texas, a pool bar, extensive outdoor function space and an infinity edge pool. AWARDS • •

JW Marriott at Bonnet Creek Lake Buena Vista, Florida
Currently under construction, this contemporary resort destination is located in Bonnet Creek, a 482-acre, mixed-use development surrounded by the Walt Disney World Resort. The luxury hotel includes 516 hotel units, 50,000 SF of banquet facilities, 1,000 Âcar structured garage, restaurants and lounges, public amenities, pool decks, spa, and fitness center. The project will also include rooftop amenities and an outdoor function space. Opening is scheduled for the first quarter of 2020. 17
The Astrodome Houston, Texas
Dubbed “The Eighth Wonder of the World” of its time, The Houston Astrodome opened in 1965 and was the largest ever built at the time of its construction. Within its 405,000-SF area with temperature maintained at 72 degrees, football and baseball games, boxing bouts and conventions take place with conversion with conversion form one to the other fast and simple. With opera-type seats, covered by permanent translucent roof, the Astrodome was designed to accommodate 66,000 for boxing and conventions, 45,000 for baseball and 52,000 for football. It’s also been home to The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. 19
Toyota Center Houston, Texas
The $175M state-of-the-art multipurpose sports and entertainment facility was designed to accommodate NBA, WNBA, NHL, the Olympics, and other sports events. The multi-function facility also includes retail, restaurants, live performances and similar entertainment, and floor events. Designed to be fan-friendly, the arena offers about 60% of the seating capacity in the lower bowl adding to the fans’ viewing enjoyment. The total seating capacity includes: 18,331 for basketball, 17,164 for hockey, and 18,930 for center stage concert venues. Toyota Center features eighty private suites and fourteen private bunker suites at the service/court level. Other amenities include a club lounge, a VIP restaurant, expansive food courts, interactive kiosks and team retail store as well as concessions located around all levels. Administrative offices for the Houston Rockets and Comets are also located in the facility. 21
City of Sugar Land Surface Water Treatment Plant Sugar Land, Texas
Huitt-Zollars, as a consultant, provided civil engineering, architectural design, interior design, and landscape architecture for the $69 million plant, one of the City of Sugar Land’s largest Capital Improvement Projects ever. Huitt-Zollars provided design services for the entire 40-plus-acre site, pump station buildings, maintenance building, sludge dewatering building, chemical building, main electrical distribution building, and membrane/ administration building. Landscaping consists of drought resistant plantings, regional perennial flowering plants, boulders, and a dry creek that will serve as a rainwater diversion feature to the surrounding storm sewer system in lieu of gutters and downspouts on buildings. Disney’s Feature Animation Design and Production Studio Burbank, California
This 3-story, 240,000 SF facility features special support spaces including the 130-seat screening room, 200-seat dining area with associated full service kitchen, and 8,300 SF computer room. It’s design echoes the original 1930’s Art Deco studio. Huitt-Zollars provided Architect of Record services in association with Robert A.M. Stern Architects. AWARDS • • • •

Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Studios Orlando Terminator 2: 3D Battle Across Time Orlando, Florida
This cinematic virtual adventure attraction featured a 60,000 SF, 3-screen, 700-seat theater featuring the first-ever combination of 3D cinematography, computer graphics & live action. The project was awarded the Themed Entertainment Association Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Disneyland Hotel Anaheim, California
The Disneyland Hotel is a landmark destination with a storied history. Its three guest room towers, convention center, dining venues and outdoor amenities had been built and renovated piecemeal since its opening in 1955. Huitt-Zollars, Inc. worked in partnership with a landscape architect and Walt Disney Imagineering to unify the Disneyland Hotel components into a singular themed hotel environment. Huitt-Zollars, Inc. also assisting with revising the hotel’s master plan and was responsible for renovations to the Central Courtyard, the Hotel Lobbies and the Presidential Suite.

Disney’s Grand Californian Resort Hotel Renovation / Expansion Anaheim, California
Located on the hotel’s south side, the 2.5 acre expansion of the renowned California Arts & Crafts architectural style hotel and spa comprises 202 new hotel rooms and the addition of 48 two-bedroom vacation villas. The project also features a new rooftop deck for viewing fireworks, a new swimming pool and an estimated 300 underground parking spaces.
The Grand Californian features many sustainable initiatives including energyefficient appliances, double-pane insulated glazing with high U and SHGC performance; recycled rubber acoustic flooring; LED low wattage and compact fluorescent lighting; low flush toilets; and grey water capture for irrigation. 31
JW Marriott at Gardenwalk Anaheim, California
Based on a mixed-use retail and timeshare master plan, the JW Marriot at Gardenwalk is a contemporary Disneyland destination resort. The upscale development features two hotels: • Hotel 1 has 466 hotel guestrooms • Hotel 2 has 400 suites. Both properties offer restaurants and lounges, banquet facilities, public amenities, pool decks, spa and fitness centers and are designed for LEED Silver Certification.

The Westgate Anaheim timeshare resort is an exciting addition to the Anaheim GardenWalk Development. Directly adjacent to the Disneyland Resort, guests enjoy the advantages of a premium location with easy access to the resort park, spectacular views of Disneyland and amenities within the GardenWalk development virtually a footstep away.

Santa Monica College Pico Campus IT Building Santa Monica, California
This innovative building for Santa Monica College’s Pico Campus consolidates 1) the Media Center which provides training and instructional support services for the College Faculty, Studio space for photography and video, Edit Bays, Equipment Check-Out, and Computer Lab and instruction space; and, 2) offices for the Information Technology Group, Network Services, and the Telecommunications Group., including support services for reprographics, equipment, and training for the College faculty and staff. The LEED Gold Certified facility utilizes sustainable strategies such as photovoltaic panels for renewable energy, sunscreening and natural ventilation to reduce heat
load, and on-site rainwater capture for landscape irrigation. Other strategies for improved energy performance for the data center include virtualization and the use of a free cooling economizer.

Santa Monica College Student Services Building Santa Monica, California
This newly completed three-story building is the consolidation of the various Student Services departments (Student Services, Enrollment Development, Bursar’s Office, Academic Affairs, President’s Offices and Assembly Hall) into one building providing centralized access and a one-stop service delivery for students. The project also features a 500-car, three-levels subterranean parking garage. The Student Services Building is on track to receive a USGBC Platinum Certification. Sustainable design features include multiple light wells throughout to bring natural light deep into the building’s large floor plates; high-performance glazing; underfloor mechanical, electrical and data systems; and photovoltaics on the roof.

Master Plan for Tan Tao Health Science Center and Arts City with Medical School and Biotechnology Lab Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
The Tan Tao Health Science Center (TTHSC) and Arts City is the first private health science center in Vietnam. It is designed to provide opportunities for education, research, and the provision of world-class clinical services. The master plan for TTHSC is comprehensive, spanning more than 40 years of phased development. Phase One includes the Schools of Medicine and Nursing and the Schools of Biomedical Science and Biotechnology, and provides academic and research space for nearly 2,000 students.

Master Plan for Medical Center of The Americas Multimodal Access El Paso, Texas
El Paso’s rapid growth is supporting the expansion of the Medical Center of the Americas: three (3) hospitals, medical and nursing schools, a new research collaborative, and public health agencies. Huitt-Zollars worked for TxDOT (Texas Department of Transportation) as part of the massive I-10 expansion project to create this campus-wide comprehensive plan for a multimodal transportation network to support the growth.

Lantana Planned Community Denton County, Texas
Lantana is a 1,750-acre master-planned community of approximately 4,000 single-family residences, an 18-hole golf course with clubhouse, various community amenity facilities, three school sites, over 200 acres of nature preserve, 40 acres of strategically located retail and commercial properties, coupled with a 350-room resort hotel/conference center. Huitt-Zollars prepared the project master plan, civil infrastructure design, construction administration and inspection, plus survey support services. The Comprehensive Plan was composed of six integrated master plans: land use, transportation, water, wastewater, drainage and economics. •

Huitt-Zollars’ noteworthy land development history created this lead civil engineering consultant project opportunity. HuittZollars provided extensive infrastructure work for this 5,000-acre master-planned community. For example, the widening of two parkways required bridge improvements, survey, planning, and utility improvements. This multiphase project blended residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational milieus. •

An innovative concept for senior living, this 130,000 SF facility comprises 133 units adaptable to assisted or independent living. Twenty-four units are dedicated to dementia care. The craftsman-like architecture complements the surrounding neighborhoods. Landscaping for its multiple common areas and courtyards mirror the hillside locale and offer a place of respite for the residents.

Nestled in the heart of the Westwood area on Wilshire Boulevard this Senior Living facility is designed to be surrounded by premier dining, shopping and entertainment. Residents of this vibrant community will be just short drive from the UCLA Medical Center, Beverly Hills, Brentwood and the sunny beaches of Santa Monica.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Pediatric Unit Los Angeles, California
The Fashion Industry Guild donated funds for the remodel and upgrade of finishes, casework, new furniture, and to replace headwalls in three patient rooms, toilets, and vestibule/work area for the Peds Acute Care Unit on the 4th floor of the North Tower. Mechanical systems were upgraded to provide adequate cooling in patient rooms. Huitt-Zollars architects used BIM software to explore various ideas for form and imagery.

Kelsey-Seybold Clinic Houston, Texas
Kelsey-Seybold changed the way health care is delivered. It took healthcare to the people and created a facility that respects the patients’ time and makes it easy to respond to their needs. Kelsey-Seybold Clinic began in 1949. Impressed by the Mayo Clinic model of combining primary and specialty medical services in one location when Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey, a fifth-generation Texan, decided to leave his prestigious position at the worldrenowned Mayo Clinic return to Texas and the newly- emerging Texas Medical Center. Kelsey-Seybold Clinic was the first of its kind in the Houston area to bring specialists, general practitioners, nurses and other caregivers together as a team to provide the best possible care.

Memorial Hermann Healthcare System at Memorial City Houston, Texas
Generations of Houstonians have relied on Memorial Hermann for patient-centered care, innovative solutions, and exceptional clinical outcomes. Since its founding in 1907, Memorial Hermann’s plans have closely matched and anticipated the needs of the communities it serves. The Memorial Hermann Memorial City 40-Year Campus Plan supports Memorial Hermann’s vision to be the best healthcare system in the United States. Faced with an aging campus infrastructure, Memorial Hermann converted older healthcare facilities from medical to business occupancy transferring medical functions to new facilities featuring the latest in technology and consolidated Memorial Hermann corporate operations from rented to owned properties, thereby enhancing organizational efficiencies and eliminating leasing fees. Focused on women’s and children’s services, oncology, heart and vascular specialties, and general medicine patient needs, the facility encompasses a developmentally supportive, familycentered care environment.

Mann Eye Institute Professional Office Building Houston, Texas
Huitt-Zollars is designing this new clinic and professional office building for the Mann Eye Institute. Dr. Michael Mann is a pioneer in eye care. He began performing cataract surgery in the 1970s and in 1981, he was among the first in the country to begin performing radial keratotomy (RK) procedures – LASIK’s predecessor. Dr. Mann had a vision to create an eye care facility that would be a cut above the rest and this facility is true to his vision.
