crossing boundaries and spanning industries PageSoutherlandPage thrives on challenge — and working successfully in several market sectors provides us with challenges and opportunities. Our diverse portfolio includes projects ranging from highly complex, technology-intensive facilities to campus plans to corporate interiors. One of the benefits of working in multiple market sectors is being able to share what we’ve learned in one industry with clients in a seemingly unrelated one. We know important issues cross industry boundaries — including how organizations communicate and work, how they use technologies, and how the built environment affects the well being of the people who inhabit it and the natural world which surrounds it. For us, the real pleasure in our work comes from the process of investigation and exploration in each of our markets — and being able to impart that knowledge to our next client.

architecture Our architects recognize the strong influence of the built environment on its inhabitants. Through design, we may shape the image of an organization to the outside world and the culture of its people within. Design can impact the comfort, efficiency and productivity of the individual — or set the boundaries for how an organization may adapt to change or emerging technologies. We may help inspire, through the physical surroundings, a sense of teamwork, a spirit of creativity and an atmosphere of high energy. Unlike firms offering “trademark” imagery or standardized solutions, we see ourselves more appropriately in the role of “problem solvers.” Sometimes it’s simply a matter of our experience and expertise, knowing what has worked effectively in similar problem situations — but often the solution lies in our ability to guide our clients to their own specific, custombuilt answers. This is architecture that truly works.
engineering We understand that high levels of interdisciplinary coordination and quality control are critical for today’s technically sophisticated building projects. In 1942, we became one of the first architectural firms in the nation to integrate in-house engineering design services within a single design organization, combining those services with our architectural and interior design capabilities as a total design approach. Since then, our engineers have been responsible for designing engineering systems for a wide range of projects, which vary in complexity from educational facilities, to wafer fabrication and health care facilities, to office buildings and corporate interiors. This approach provides our clients with a single point of total job responsibility - while allowing the highest levels of interdisciplinary coordination, team cooperation and project management control. This is the power of a fullservice architectural and engineering practice.
programming & strategic consulting
planning & landscape architecture
The pace at which organizations must respond and adapt to both internal and external changes can be staggering. Sometimes our clients want help in creating strategies to anticipate and respond to these changes, even before they consider a building project.
Our award-winning planning and landscape architecture team has the experience and vision to help organizations with their campus, community and master planning projects — identifying strategic priorities, reaching consensus and producing a framework for future decision-making.
To meet that need, we have recruited and developed some of the best talent available for our Strategic Consulting and Programming team. These professionals are experts not only in predesign and facility planning, but also in guiding our clients through the critical and sometimes delicate steps of making decisions related to organizational growth and change. Their combined talents, skills and expertise give our firm an unrivaled resource for providing our clients with services related to architectural programming, pre-design studies, facility planning and strategic consulting.
We are committed to developing master plans that are not only innovative, meeting the requirements and planning challenges that face our clients, but also include specific strategies and steps for implementation and development. From university campuses to resorts to city revitalization plans, each unique project gives us the opportunity to employ our exploratory and researchfocused methodology to meet the challenges our clients offer us — and to create truly exceptional places.
interiors The Interiors team designs environments which are conducive to creativity and discovery, increased productivity and employee well being — and which serve as positive and consistent visual reinforcement to an organization’s cultural identity. We believe welldesigned interiors can be a critical force, not only in helping organizations accomplish their mission, but also in improving people’s lives. With services including programming, space-planning and facilities management, as well as furnishings and artwork selection, our designers produce interiors that reflect and enhance an organization’s image while providing flexible, efficient spaces. Combining the skills of interior designers with those of architects, planners, engineers, and computer specialists, we offer a range and quality not found at traditional interiors firms.
