The Adventure Begins at 9:00 a.m.
Benefiting The Men’s Center & The Way Out Women’s Center
AA meetings are held every morning noon, afternoon and evening at the Center. The desire to learn the AA way to sobriety is encouraged and developed through association with the other men which, in turn, enhances the practice of the Twelve Steps, the Twelve Traditions and the AA sponsorship among the men at the Center..
Because getting a job and paying room and board weekly are part of the recovery process, the next step is a move to a dormitory where he has a bed and storage space for his clothing and facilitates his joining the labor pool or another source of employment.
When received into the Center the alcoholic spends several days in the “Sick Room” where he is encouraged to rest and read and is introduced to a daily routine which permits his body to begin to heal from the excesses of alcoholism. Equally important, if not more so, it introduces him to the Personalism of the AA fellowship as it practiced at the Center.
In more than 50 years of service to the recovering alcoholic, the The Men’s Center has developed a program that works. It provides a starting place to retreat from the oppressive and inhuman requirements of life on the streets and begin their recovery from alcoholism and drug dependency in order to achieve productive lives.
Guidance for the Center is provided by a dedicated group of people with multiple years of sobriety who serve on a volunteer basis making up a 7-member Board of Trustees, a House Secretary and 4-member Steering Committee, duly elected by the membership.
A nonprofit facility, the Women’s Center was created 38 years ago to offer hope and provide a safe, supportive environment free of charge for alcoholic women to begin to learn to live a sober life. We are selfsupporting through member contributions and fundraising activities and our residents are required to attend two AA meetings a day on the premises and two outside meetings a week.
Way Out Women’s Center is a 10-day, 6-bed, non-medical alcohol detoxification program for women.

Ride for Recovery A tradition was born in 2005 when Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) staff and alumni who were motorcycle riders and recovering addicts joined forces to create a ride that would celebrate recovery by... ...raising money to help support donations for selected nonprofit male and female recovery shelters in the community; ...acknowledging the fun people have in recovery; and, ...offering the opportunity to step out of the shadows of the shame of addiction. The 2011 Ride for Recovery marks the sixth celebration of that successful tradition. To date, we have raised $__________________ in support of local recovery programs and operations. This year, our goal is $________________ which will be directed to The Men’s Center and The Way Out Women’s Center. You can make a difference! Choose a sponsorship package and support recovery from alcohol and drug dependency in Houston through the Menmorial Hermann’s 2011 Ride for Recovery. The 100-mile adventure begins on Sunday September 18, 2011 at Memorial Hermann’s Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) located at 3043 Gessner (3 miles north of I-10 and 1 mile East of Beltway 8 - between Kempwood and Clay on Gessner). The ride will end back at the PaRC just in time for lunch. After the ride, we have a great meal waiting for you along with music, a speaker and door prizes! We invite you to choose a sponsorhip level and support the ride AND then join us for all the fun on September 18, 2011 as we give back to Houston’s own by raising funds that will support the local alcohol and drug dependency recovery programs and operations of The Men’s Center and The Way Out Women’s Center. Thanking you in advance,
