Wonderland Carla & Rory

‘The theme for our wedding was Alice in Wonderland,’ says Carla. ‘I have always loved the stories from when I was a child, so we incorporated it in small details to make the day feel whimsical and magical.’ Cabra Castle was transported down the rabbit hole when a series of wonderland themed props were hired to set the Alice theme. These included; a huge heart shaped archway into the reception area, teacups big enough to sit in, large toadstools, an enormous pocket watch. Carla and Rory spent a lot of time planning the small details to ensure the whole day felt entertaining and as inclusive as possible for the guests. ‘We are both quite outgoing people who love plenty of fun, and we just wanted our day to reflect this as much as possible.’ A wedding day filled with twists and turns with a surprise awaiting the guests around every corner. ‘After the ceremony we had an ice cream van in the church grounds,’ says Carla. ‘Offering the guests

a ’99, popcorn, candy floss or whatever they fancied.’ At the reception a number of Camouflage singing waiters created chaos and fun for all our guests during the ‘mad hatters tea party’ themed drinks reception. The evening meal was bookended with a beautiful violinist at the beginning and a mini river-dance before dessert. ‘Then we had an extra special surprise, with a guest appearance from none other than May McFetridge!’ Says Carla. ‘The whole place was in hysterics which set the whole mood for a fun, dance fuelled evening.’ The wonderful wedding day concluded with a massive fireworks display over the grounds of the castle. ‘Enjoy every aspect of the build up because the day is gone in a flash,’ says Carla. ‘I would advise to choose a great photographer and videographer, they are able to capture every memory. You are always on the go, getting photos, talking to guests, we loved sitting down watching our video, it’s my new favourite movie!’

Walking up the isle or around the wedding venue is a great opportunity to really show off the whole dress. Back details continue to be a big dress trend, these images can testify why. Embellishments, buttons, illusion, lace, and back exposure are all good choices.

Taking inspiration from simplicity and light, this style shoot was inspired by crisp whites and ivory, minimalist styling, copper and gold metallic table accents, softened with wispy green foliage and soft neutral florals. We absolutely adore this style, and it was a look we were eager to recreate, however, we were keen to add a softer feminine side in order to show couples how this look can be interpreted to create a stylish yet pretty wedding theme

spring awakening Spring, has always been regarded as the season for rebirth, fresh starts

and the beginning of the perpetual circle of life. I love this season, there’s always such a palpable energy, a positivity for the new... Words Michael Johnson Colour, texture and the subtle nuances of detail are in focus and a sense of optimism is everywhere. No more so than in the world of fashion and beauty with the recent spring/summer 2015 collections. Natural and personal makeup trends, the perfect accompaniment for the eclectic designs, seemed to be the message from the recent designer shows, in the fashion capitals (London, Paris, New York and Milan) SKIN As with every seasonal trend in beauty and makeup the big focus for S/S 2015 is skin. The definite message here is that real skin is IN. In seasons past it was more about a

The eyeshadow trend for S/S 2015 is more about a single wash of vibrant, cool colour (not necessarily bright). The tone of colour is important to counteract the natural eye colour, makeup artists favourites ranged from pastel azure blue, through lilac, lavender, mauve to strident and striking purple, most definitely cool in tone and silky suede-like in texture. Unlike past seasons where the eyeliner was either hazy, blurred or smoky in appearance, this season sees eyeliner that is bold, graphic and a clear statement. The emphasis is on the width of the line - a little thicker than the traditional cat flick winged eyeliner of yore, also the flick or lack of flick is also very much key, this time the liner is both thicker and blunt

only way I have to describe these colours is – the natural lip colour you were born with, the natural colour of your lips after a passionate kiss (snog) or just bitten – these are the tones you should be wearing for spring, but if you prefer a stronger lip look, red lipstick is still a major player. Again, the right shade of red works for this spring season – out with the deep plum, wine, scarlet and ruby shades, bring in more of the fiery orange-reds, corals and geranium hot red tones a perfect compliment to the new skin trend. Lip pencils are evident but used sparingly and never as graphic and bold as in previous season. Really thrilled to see a whole array of different lip products in use too from lip lacquers, tints, balms,

A most important key element for both looks is the eyelashes and mascara, the lashes are individual in look, fanning out into a soft defined spray, densely black and sumptuously thick texture: matte or dewy, but always perfected with foundation, concealer and powder. Now, it’s more about being real, skin looking as if it was ‘lit from within’ a play on light and contour. Knowledge of your skin type plus using the right moisturiser, the occasional facial and a knock-out highlighting/illuminating primer are key elements for this quintessential freshfaced look. Using minimal product – foundation and concealer where needed and not all over the face is the preferred application technique. Buzz words for Skin: ‘lit-from-within, barely there, clean, nearly nude’ EYES Two key trends for eyes that were seen over and over centred on either a graphic eyeliner or a ‘pop’ of eyeshadow colour.

lipsticks to soft pencils all applied with a light hand and all with stunning colour pay off and delicious textures. Buzz words for Lips: ‘translucent, natural, bitten, fiery orange’

LIPS

And finally eyebrows, alike to the previous trends I shared with you for S/S 2015, brows is all about working with what you’ve got, embracing your natural brow and using products to only edit, support and define. Gone are the highly arched, densely filled-in Walt Disney villianesque brows. Keep an eye on upcoming celebrity red carpet appearances for inspiration. For now simply brush them up and keep them groomed for bang on trend brows. Buzz words for Eyebrows: ‘groomed, groomed, groomed’

Double options again for lips, the easiest and quickest way to update your makeup look is with a change to your approach and colour choice for lips. Like the skin trend, the main change, focus and detail for lips is texture, it too is very much natural – not too matte or shiny (a surprising lack of lipgloss this season) but very much translucent, soft sheened and semi-defined. The first trend works within the ‘natural’ lip colour and not the nude-neutral colour palette, the
