WEDDING

Seasons are turning, and for wedding stylist Grace Campbell this change in the weather brings with it exciting possibilities. Winter weddings can be much more than the traditional ‘White Christmas’ influence. Let’s cosy up by the fire and get inspired.
We love to forage for fir branches to create individual place settings, hang them through light installations, or add them to winter centrepieces. Pinecones make pretty place card holders, and frosted branches weave through twinkly votives on long winter tables 80 | inspire-weddings.com
The cake crumbs have settled and the crazy, brilliant heat of the summer wedding season has come to a stop, You could and then in the brief hush of go as far as tying autumn there is the whisper of our all the guest cards on winter weddings! Each year about a beautiful tree, or give this time the summer wedding guests a little keepsake for their home props are packed away, and from or tree the top shelves we pull all the magic that makes a ‘Winter Wedding’. There is something intriguing, something interesting about a winter bride. Winter brides seem to come with a steady confidence, perhaps from the fact they are not planning around the weather, they know not to count on outdoor photographs, use of the grounds or sunshine. There is a freedom from the expectations of a summer wedding; we can delight in planning to create the most magical of spaces inside. Many times our brief for a winter wedding is ‘winter’, but not ‘Christmas’. We help them achieve this with careful investigation and choices. We like to look at what is associated with winter, and then look for what is not obviously festive, so that we deliver beautiful winter weddings, that are not clichéd or themed. For example, colour palette is a great place to start, if you think of Christmas you might think of greens, reds and gold’s. Instead, we can think of the natural winter colour palette, the pale ice blues of sparkling frost, snow, soft greys of morning mist, warm, welcoming gold’s, silvers, ivory’s of candlelight, the soft pale green of frost dusted moss, leaves and fir, the velvety browns of bark, firewood and pinecones. Also then fabrics and textures, summer weddings are full of cottons, hessians, prints, linens, in winter we can look at fabrics that evoke warmth, cosiness, and welcome, such as velvets, wools, tweeds, and tumbling silks. Sometimes we love to delve into traditions of the season, but make them wedding appropriate. For example, brides could choose to give jingle bells as little wedding favours for guests to ring as they leave the ceremony, or wrap little clementine’s in muslin, or pots of whiskey marmalade, tiny parcels wrapped up in string, delighting in the
season of gift giving. You could go as far as tying all the guest cards on a beautiful tree, or give guests a little keepsake for their home or tree. And then we can lose ourselves in all sorts of lighting options, twinkly fairy lights, shimmering mercury glass and big, bold festoon lights and other creative light installations. Lighting that softens areas for conversation, or illuminates the wedding party. And the real beauty of winter weddings is that the most magical are often the most simple, done with thought and quality. The most memorable details can be those found in the season, by bringing the natural winter inside. We love to forage for fir branches to create individual place settings, hang them through light installations, or add them to winter centrepieces. Pinecones make pretty place card holders, and frosted branches weave through twinkly votives on long winter tables. And finally with a memorable winter wedding you can make a priority for magical guest comforts, welcome them with the option of a hot drinks station, hot chocolate, hot toddies, winter pimms, family made shortbread or biscuits. Give them blankets wrapped in velvet ribbons, to cosy up in, a thoughtful seasonal menu or treats to take home, and end the night under the perfect midnight blue winter sky with sparklers, fireworks or a candle send off.
