A
ndy Rozo, owner of N-Hance Wood Renewal in Denver, not only offers services to keep your wooden cabinets and hardwood floors in tip-top shape. His team can also thoroughly clean and restore your granite countertops to their original luster and shine. According to Rozo, many homeowners with granite countertops understand their granite might need some special care, but fail to realize how often such countertops should be treated. “Most people don’t know the industry standard is that granite should be cleaned, polished, and sealed every one to three years,” Rozo said. Since granite is a natural product and has pores, he explained, those pores can fill with bacteria. For this reason, it’s important not just to seal and polish granite, but to make sure it’s thoroughly disinfected and cleaned first. “We accomplish this by first cleaning thoroughly then applying a disinfectant before sealing and polishing,” he said. “All of our products are green and fully compatible, and we don’t create any dust because there’s no grinding.” He also said his team uses a
hand polisher to give countertops the sheen that everyone wants their granite to maintain. Rozo added that removing the bacteria in granite countertops rather than trapping it contributes to a healthier home, and that simply sealing granite with a store-bought product is not a very effective approach. “Our process helps ensure that your granite will not only be completely clear of bacteria, but will also be stronger and a lot more durable.” A granite countertop that has not been properly cared for, he added, can get stained when beverages like wine, coffee, soda, or juice are spilled on it because it is so porous. “When you’ve spent thousands of dollars adding granite countertops to your home,” he said, “it makes sense to take care of them by having your granite cleaned, sealed, and polished on a regular basis.”

The Bee Family Centennial Farm Museum in Fort Collins offers a glimpse into the history of the Northern Colorado prairies and the challenges settlers faced in their attempts to cultivate the arid land. The property has been maintained as an active farm since 1894. Now a designated national historic place, the museum offers tours of the original homestead and the surrounding buildings, including a chicken house, cow shed, and wood and metal granaries, as well as historical farming equipment, cars and wagons. The museum is planning a vintage baseball game in June and a pioneer living day in September. Just an hour north of Denver, the farm is open May through October. www.beefamilyfarm.com
The mission of the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg is to rescue and provide a home for large exotic and endangered captive animals that have been abused or illegally kept. The facility is located on 720 acres of rural, rolling grasslands 30 miles northeast of Denver and is home to more than 400 animals, including tigers, African lions, bears, mountain lions, leopards, wolves, ostriches, emus, camel and other species. As part of its education mission, the sanctuary invites the public to visit. Entrance fees are based on annual or one-time donations that help pay for the care of the animals. This historic hangar on the former Lowry Air Force Base aims to educate and inspire people of all ages about aviation and space endeavors. Special events include a Star Wars celebration, an annual aeromodelling expo and flight educational programs for children. Colorado Springs, 70 miles south of Denver, is full of attractions for visitors. The U.S. Olympic Training Center is sure to be especially popular this year as athletes prepare for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Brazil. Guided tours of the facility, which includes an aquatic center, six gymnasiums, a velodrome and a shooting center, are available. No exploration of Colorado would be complete without a visit to a leftover relic from the booming mining era – a ghost town. Local residents are treated to beautiful mountain scenery from their city and suburban backyards, but to get an upclose taste of Rocky Mountain ecosystems, take a drive over Guanella Pass along Mount Bierstadt and Mount Evans. The road spans the divide between the South Platte and Clear Creek watersheds and passes through forests of spruce, fir, aspen and pine trees at lower elevations, meadows at higher elevations, and rocky spans dotted with hardy grasses and flowers above the timberline. The pass is 22 miles long and takes about an hour to drive. Boulder’s iconic flatirons are a series of five sandstone formations on Green Mountain within the City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks system. Many trails originate near the Chautauqua National Historic Landmark, which preserves the history of the Chautauqua movement in the United States that emphasized adult education during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 1. For the BBQ Mayonnaise, mix mayonnaise and Bar-B-Q Sauce in small bowl until well blended. Cover. Refrigerate until ready to serve. 2. For the Onions, mix flour, salt and pepper in large resealable plastic bag. Add onion; toss to coat well. Pour oil into deep fryer, large heavy skillet or saucepan, filling no more than 1/3 full. Heat oil on medium-high heat. Carefully add onion rings to hot oil. Fry 4 to 5 minutes, turning once to brown evenly, until onions rings are golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Set aside. 3. For the Burgers, mix Seasoning, chili powder and brown sugar in small bowl. Shape ground beef into 4 patties. Coat surface of each patty evenly with the rub mixture. Grill over medium heat 4 to 6 minutes per side or until burgers are cooked through (internal temperature of 160ºF). Add cheese slices to burgers 1 minute before cooking is completed. Grill pickle slices 2 to 3 minutes per side or until grill marks appear. Toast rolls on the grill, open-side down, about 30 seconds, if desired. 4. Serve burgers on rolls topped with grilled pickles, Crispy Onion Straws and lettuce. Serve with BBQ Mayonnaise.

1. Cut 4 (1-inch thick) half-moon slices of watermelon. Reserve any remaining watermelon for another use. 2.
Mix vinegar, oil, lemon juice, rosemary, salt and pepper in small bowl. Reserve 2 tablespoons for drizzling grilled watermelon.
3. Place watermelon steaks in glass dish. Add remaining marinade. Refrigerate 20 minutes, turning watermelon halfway through marinating time. 4. Meanwhile, for the Walnut Gremolata, mix walnuts, parsley and lemon peel in small bowl. Set aside. Remove watermelon steaks from marinade. Reserve leftover marinade for brushing watermelon during grilling. 5. Grill watermelon steaks over high heat 2 to 4 minutes per side or until grill marks appear, brushing with leftover marinade. 6. To serve, cut watermelon steaks in half. Drizzle with reserved 2 tablespoons marinade. Sprinkle with Walnut Gremolata.
