FROM THE
Stepping Through the
Door of the Future
T
he month of May is marked by commencement for countless high school and college graduates. Each year, The Broomfielder™ magazine invites one senior from each of Broomfield’s three high schools to share a reflection about their high school experiences and the road ahead. This is one of my favorite editorial highlights of the year and I would like to thank Kelsie, Killian, and Sam for taking the time to participate and share some thoughts with us. Congratulations to each of you and all of the graduating seniors from Broomfield’s high schools! This year my husband and I will watch our own daughter, Megan, step across the stage and begin the next phase of her education and her life. For parents, graduation brings a myriad of bittersweet emotions from happiness and pride, to joy and anticipation. Many of these are the same emotions the student is experiencing. It is much different though for moms and dads, because we are watching with a view from the other side. In recent weeks I have found myself reflecting on my own college years and early career, the smart choices and the lucky breaks, the near misses and unfortunate missteps, the moments I said “thank goodness I did” and then again, “if I had only.” I wish I could go back to my younger self and share so many things. I expressed this to my husband recently. I was wondering how can we best prepare her for and protect her from bumps in the road as she enters adulthood. He calmly reminded me that we can’t. She just has to go through it. I guess that is the entirety of parenthood right? We simply can’t protect our kids from the scrapes, the falls, the let downs, and the broken hearts. We can only trust that we have guided and groomed and equipped these people with the values and habits and skills that will light the road and provide the foundation for the challenging choices and hard work ahead. I am one of those lucky parents who can say, my kid is much smarter than I am. I know in my heart she is ready. Thank you for reading, Tina Eichner, Editor

ABOUT STROKE In By Dr. Lauren Middleton
the United States, stroke is the number five cause of death, killing someone every four minutes. Yet 99% of Americans do not consider stroke to be the greatest health problem facing America today and 25% of Americans do not know any stroke warning signs. A stroke, sometimes called a brain attack, occurs when blood flow to an area of the brain is cut off; as many as two million brain cells can die every minute until blood flow inside the brain is restored. Anyone, including children, can have a stroke. Every year, about 610,000 people in the United States have a stroke. Several factors that are beyond your control can increase your risk for stroke. These include your age, sex, and ethnicity. But there are some habits that can help reduce your chance of a stroke, including exercising, managing your cholesterol, and not smoking. May is American Stroke Month and a great time to make sure that our community can recognize the symptoms of a stroke Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop? and respond quickly. Graduates Sh High School E Kelsie Torczynski,
Holy Family High School As graduation day approaches for seniors all around, I know I am constantly thinking of the faces I will never see again, everything I have done, and everything I will do. After four years of attending Holy Family, I realize a couple things about its purpose. High school is a place mixed with kids straight from middle school and kids, soon to be adults, about to attend college. When I thought about it, this blend of distinct levels of maturity appears odd, but after experiencing it, it makes sense. As an eager freshman I aspired to be just like the seniors one day. Now I find myself only days away from graduating. This year I acted as the role model towards the younger classmen, whether it be leading cheers in sports, simply walking down the hallways, or cheering as loud as I could at pep rallies to show the pride I have for my school. It took me four years to understand that I am continuously growing− mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Going into freshman year, I was thinking about how popular I wanted to be or the multitude of friends I wanted to have. But coming out, I became aware that popularity did not matter. I matured in a way that readied me for the real world. That is what I think high school helps each individual accomplish, finding yourself. I have constantly learned every day, not only in academics but also in life lessons. I am a young adult, but the faculty and staff treated me and expected me to act like an adult. As stressful as it may have been at times, I do not regret a single moment because I know my hard work and dedication will pay off as I enter the adult world. High school reminds me of an analogy of a caterpillar. You start out scrawny, slowly growing aware of your surroundings. You gradually feast on your extracurricular activities, passions, and clubs. Then, at some point you go into hibernation, only focusing on your grades, ACT and SAT preparation, and to ready yourself for college applications. Finally, by the time all of that is finished you break out your shell and spread your beautiful wings, showing the world what you can offer. Though I am sad to leave such a wonderful high school, deep down I know that it is time for me to spread my wings. It is time to show the world how I will make my mark and the potential of beauty I can offer to it.

Sam Karlson,
Legacy High School As I reflect on the last four years of high school, I feel I am just beginning to understand the tremendous amount of help I have been given to succeed in high school. Along the way, I have had dozens of teachers, coaches, and friends who have gone the extra mile to push me to grow. At a school like Legacy, it's easy to take for granted the incredible amount of extra time and attention our teachers and coaches give to help us progress because of how many of them give much more than they need to. My
Killian Dumont,
Shaped by Experiences English teachers have spent many hours with me during their planning periods trying to help me understand rhetorical and literary analysis, and I have emailed them dozens of papers late in the evening where they would give me feedback, and I am just one of the hundreds of students they have. My chemistry teacher would always send a group text to the class before a test with a chemistry joke to help us relax. I have watched my wrestling coaches spend hours prepping for a tournament that would run from before sunrise until long after it set. My tennis coach willingly endured multiple bus trips after long tournaments where the team would loudly be singing music in the back, often way off pitch. My gym teacher found it easy to deal with all students because he firmly believed that there are no bad kids, there are just bad choices. All he had to do was cure them with pushups, because pushups cure everything. In many ways, I learn more from these teachers through their examples than I do from their lessons, and they often provide a much longer lasting influence through the way they treat us than the material they teach.

Memorial Day Ceremony Honors Fallen Soldiers By Kristen Beckman
B
roomfield citizens are invited to attend the Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum annual Memorial Day picnic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, May 30, at Broomfield Commons. Memorial Day is an opportunity to reflect upon veterans of U.S. military forces who died in the line of duty. About 400 people are expected to attend the event. The official Memorial Day program kicks off with the posting of the colors presented by members of the Broomfield Police Department and North Metro Fire District, followed by a welcome message given by Jerry Chesser, a board member and past president of the Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum. Mayor Randy Ahrens will also speak, following an invocation delivered by the Rev. Dr. Scott McAnally and the singing of the national anthem. Rocky Mountain Brassworks will provide musical entertainment starting at 11:30. The Pledge of Allegiance will be delivered this year by Mary Lou Murphy in honor of her husband, Paul Murphy, a longtime Broomfield resident and veteran of World War II, who died in February at the age of 91. Murphy was one of the last known surviving crew members of the USS Indianapolis, which was torpedoed by Japanese submarines and sunk in the Philippine Sea on July 30, 1945. Of the 1,190 crew members aboard the ship, only 316 survived the initial attack and four days floating in shark-infested waters. The sinking of the Indianapolis is considered the worst naval disaster at sea in U.S. history. Murphy was a founding member of the Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum, which features a display of artifacts and information specific to Murphy’s service and survival story. At noon, the Daughters of the American Revolution will hand out lapel pins and certificates to Vietnam War veterans, marking the 50th anniversary of the start of that war. Military re-enactors will also be on hand at the Memorial Day event in historical military uniforms, and military vehicles and other military artifacts will be on display for visitors to view and explore.

THE BROOMFIELDER™ MAY 2016
This year, Memorial Day falls on May 30, the date originally designated for the observance that later evolved into the official Memorial Day holiday. Soon after the end of the Civil War, citizens began decorating the graves of war dead with flowers on Decoration Day in early spring. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan, a Union army veteran and Illinois Senator, declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30, possibly because flowers would be in bloom all over the country by that day. Memorial Day was declared an official holiday in 1971 and designated to take place on the last Monday in May.
The Broomfield Lions Club will sell picnic food, including hot dogs and hamburgers, during the event. The Broomfield Veterans Memorial Museum will be open until 3:00 p.m. on the holiday for those who want to tour the museum. The museum includes artifacts and interactive displays commemorating more than 200 years of U.S. military history. The museum also is planning other events in the community during the coming months. In June, the museum will support Flag Day activities in conjunction with North Metro Fire District. Flags will be collected at the museum and burned during a retirement ceremony June 14. The museum also is planning to display a Vietnam-era helicopter at Broomfield Days.

Depot Museum Friends SET THIRD ANNUAL SPEAKER SERIES For the third year, the Broomfield Depot Museum Friends and the City and County of Broomfield Cultural Affairs and Museum Divisions are bringing Broomfield’s history to life in a dynamic speaker series on the first Wednesday of each month starting May 4. The series will continue through Oct. 5. There is no admission, but donations are appreciated. Most talks will be at the historic Crescent Grange building, 7901 West 120th Avenue, in Broomfield, beginning at 7:00 p.m.

HERE’S THE LINEUP: May 4 – “The American Hobo” presented by Lauren Giebler. Hobos are often thought to be a product of 1930s Depression America, but, in fact, the hobo experience spans more than 140 years of railroad history. Between 1870 and today, a cornucopia of different people rode the rails for free including immigrants searching for a better life, American socialists agitating labor movements, displaced war veterans searching for a little peace, adventure-seekers chasing the thrill, and even out-of-work railroad men looking for the next job. Come hear about the rich history of the American hobo and find out exactly what it is that keeps people “ridin’ the rails.” Lauren Giebler has an M.A. in History from Colorado State University and worked as Curator at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden from 2009 to 2015. She currently sits on the Colorado State Historic Review Board which reviews nominations to the national and state historic register. She enjoys speaking before various history and railroad groups and when she isn’t chasing trains, she runs her own sewing business in Golden, CO. June 1 – Hear Shirley Garcia’s story of “Rocky Flats: Weapons to Wildlife.” Garcia worked at Rocky Flats for 17 years and will share her experiences adding the personal touch of how the plant was a city and family for the workers. She will discuss the transition of Rocky Flats from a top secret government weapons facility to an open site with wildlife for the community to see and enjoy today. She will also talk briefly about her experience on the Rocky Flats Cold War Museum board and some interesting experiences with the organization, including when a group of Japanese visitors came to interview the board members! Garcia is the City and County of Broomfield’s Environmental Services Coordinator, a post she has held for more than 15 years. As part of her work, she oversees current activities at Rocky Flats. She has a B.S. in Environmental Science and an M.S. in Environmental Management with an emphasis in environmental law. Prior to the city of Broomfield, Garcia worked at Rocky Flats from 1982 to 1997. To ensure that the history of Rocky Flats was preserved, she also served on the board of the Rocky Flats Cold War Museum for approximately seven years.

THE BROOMFIELDER™ MAY 2016
July 6 – Broomfield’s own museum administrator, Jacqui Ainlay-Conley, will moderate a panel of local Broomfield residents who were present “When the President Came to Town: The Eisenhowers in Broomfield.” On July 7, 1963, former President Dwight D. Eisenhower and First Lady Mamie Doud Eisenhower attended the dedication of Broomfield’s first library, named in the first lady’s honor. Ainlay-Conley will explore the Eisenhowers’ connection to Colorado and Broomfield and local residents will share their memories of the day the World War II general-turned-president and his wife visited the community. AinlayConley is the Museum Administrator for the City and County of Broomfield. She has a B.A. in history from the University of Kansas, an M.A. in history and a Certificate in Historic Preservation from the University of Colorado Denver. She currently edits the Colorado Book Review for The Center for Colorado Studies at the Denver Public Library.
August 3 – “When Dinosaurs Roamed Broomfield: Fossils, Claws, and Tetropods: Broomfield’s Prehistory” will be presented by Depot Friends board chair Carol Lucking. Many people think of Broomfield as a city with a short history, but 67 million years ago, dinosaurs roamed the landscape in a lush environment. Now their bones, along with fossil plants and other traces of this ancient environment are literally falling out of the hillsides and drainages every day! Lucking promises a fun program on this little-known aspect of Broomfield’s prehistory. Lucking took a lifelong passion for dinosaurs into a job at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science where she worked as an earth sciences collections manager for six years and traveled around Colorado and the Southwest digging dinosaur bones, fossil leaves, and mastodon tusks. She now owns her own financial practice and maintains her involvement with paleontology. Lucking has lived in Broomfield for five years and loves cycling and running the trails, keeping her eyes peeled for dinosaur bones, of course. September 14 – This talk moves to the Broomfield Auditorium, 3 Community Park Rd., for an evening with Dr. Tom Noel – “Dr. Colorado” – who will discuss “ColorOddities: Strange Things About the Highest State” beginning at 7:00 p.m. For this event only, a suggested donation of $5 per person at the door will benefit the Broomfield Depot Museum Friends. Dr. Noel, will regale attendees with some of the strangest stories from the highest state. Those who have attended talks by Dr. Noel will enjoy his rich knowledge and conversational delivery of all things Colorado. Dr. Thomas J. Noel is a Professor of History and Director of Public History, Preservation and Colorado Studies at the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver). He has authored numerous books, articles, and columns. Dr. Noel is a graduate of the University of Denver, CU Denver, and the University of Colorado at Boulder. He teaches courses on Denver and Colorado Heritage Tourism, Historic Preservation, Mining and Railroads, National Parks, U.S. West history, and Western Art and Architecture at CU Denver. Gary Schnoor Park Services Superintendent oversees the multiple projects and crews dedicated to providing beautiful and safe facilities and parks, a job that keeps his team quite busy. Broomfield Parks has several different divisions such as mowing, athletic fields maintenance, horticulturists, irrigation, structures group, a group that works with the trees, cemeteries, open space, etc. Some of the crews start work each day around 6:00 a.m., though Gary says they predominantly start at 7:00 a.m. “We’re coming out of the tricky time of year, where the weather can drop snow or rain at any time,” said Gary. “While the grass is not actively growing in March, we top dress the fields to kick start them with a compost mix. Getting the athletic fields ready is our first priority.” Broomfield’s Parks Operations Foreman Rick Sedbrook describes the unpredictable spring weather as always requiring him to “say a little prayer” as his team converts nearly 20 small snowplows back into grass mowers. “The possibility of snowstorms is always there. However we are now [in April] starting to aerate with all the moisture we got during March. The guys are painting lines on the fields, getting the parks ready, and we’ll soon start fertilizing,” said Rick. Gary has been working for Broomfield’s parks for more than 35 years, he’s seen lots of changes and new faces in that time. He said the sheer magnitude of the properties managed by the City and County of Broomfield is the most noticeable change. “The acreage and amenities we cover are dramatically different from back then,” said Gary. Rick gives a specific example: “About 12 years ago we heard from parents that the little kids couldn’t play soccer easily in the 3-inch grass on our fields, the ball just wouldn’t move far for them. Now we cut to 2-inches twice a week and its made soccer much more fun for the younger kids.” The City also contracts out the maintenance of some parks to keep expenses down, around Flatirons Crossing mall, for example. A little known fact: Broomfield collects much of their grass clippings during park mowing operations. “Last year we composted about 300 yards of material, which we use as topsoil back on our properties, saving us some money” said Rick. Another effort not to be taken for granted is the amount of flowers that are planted around the

parks, city buildings, athletic court facilities, prominent street corners, and entrances to neighborhoods. Broomfield’s Landscape Planner Horticulturist Debra Pfaff said her goal is to put out something each year that “makes people happy.” She looks to add new ideas each year. “We change things up, look at the trends and popular items and try to pleasantly surprise people,” she said. Look this year for new hibiscus and petunias, for example. More than just a springtime effort, planters are cleaned and repaired starting in November. “By the end of the year we are well into our planning, and we have contracts that go to bid for flower growers. Starting in April we get the planters back from the growers and get ready for placement around Broomfield.” Debra’s crew also directly plant flowers in planters throughout town. They have a mix of reservoir planters that require much less water (like at the Library); specific handwatering schedules, and coordination with the city’s irrigation plans to ensure the most efficient use of water. It takes a lot of people to keep the city’s parks looking good. Besides the full time staff, dozens of workers are brought on for the spring thru summer. “We’re in the process of seasonal hiring – about 60 seasonals,” said Gary. “We also have a junior ranger program for teenagers. They help pick up trash, do light clean up, and basic duties. It’s a good first job experience for younger teens; we have morning and afternoon crews so if they have sports or other commitments they can still work and attend those
Visitors have undoubtedly noticed signage describing the names of Broomfield parks – many are tributes and intentional accolades to the efforts and memories of Broomfield residents. For example, Anne Crouse Park at 136th Avenue and Kohl Street was dedicated in May 2013. Anne Crouse became a resident in 1958 and dedicated her time to many causes that supported and promoted Broomfield including serving on the Broomfield City Council from 1993 to 1997. Jim Clapper Field at Broomfield Industrial Park was dedicated in February 2009. Jim was a longtime Broomfield resident and one of the men that started and administered the Lions Club youth baseball program for nearly 37 years. activities.” There’s also a lot of effort put into training: “We have to show all the new people what’s going on, how we do things, it’s great for the college kids. My son did this as well, it helps them save up for school,” said Rick. The enthusiasm for making Broomfield look good is apparent when talking to Gary and his staff. “Our activities and the results of our work are very visible and accessible for people to enjoy,” he said. “The stuff we do is very visual – I get a lot of satisfaction seeing how people appreciate our work. I can see large trees offering shade that I planted 30 years ago. It’s fun to see.” Debra agreed, “What I do makes people really, really happy.” And Rick sums it up, “People may think we aren’t busy in the winter, but there’s a lot of training and planning that helps us make Broomfield beautiful.” Design your perfect visit to Broomfield’s parks with the interactive online parks tour at http://parks.broomfield.org. pring is in the air and soon the seeds and seedlings that will become the beautiful, fragrant gardens of summer will be in the ground. Now is the time to consider what you want your outdoor space to accomplish. Many people focus on culinary goals by planting vegetable and herb gardens, while others focus on accessorizing their yards and patios with flowers that add color and visual interest. A growing number of gardeners are focusing on creating gardens and landscapes for a different purpose – attracting butterflies and birds that bring additional beauty and life to their gardens. To attract these creatures, it is important to understand why they would choose to visit the plants and flowers in your garden. Birds and butterflies view plants and flowers as sources for food, water, and shelter. Keeping their motivation in mind and understanding their preferences will help you create a garden that is appealing to them.
For the Birds In Colorado, sparrows and robins are abundant backyard visitors, but less common birds you might want to try to attract to your garden include goldfinches, chickadees, bluebirds, cardinals, swallows, and nuthatches. Each type of bird has its own food and shelter preferences. For example, goldfinches are especially attracted to sunflowers, coneflowers, thistles, and dandelions, all of which produce seeds the birds like. In addition, thistle provides nesting material preferred by goldfinches. Other flower and plant options that are good for attracting birds include varieties that attract insects or produce fruit, berries, and seeds that birds like to eat, such as black-eyed susan, boxwood, dogwood, hawthorn, and spicebush. Not only do certain plants provide a food source for birds, but they also provide shade and shelter from wind, weather, and predators. Plants that are native to the area are likely to yield the most success

because they have evolved a symbiotic relationship with native birds. Native shrubs also provide a more ideal nesting environment for birds and greater protection than non-native shrubs. Natural nesting options like hollow trees and thickets will make a garden appealing to birds, as will bird baths and nesting boxes. Supplementing natural food sources with feeders that include highquality seed, suet, and fruit are surefire ways to attract birds as well.
Attracting Butterflies One of the keys to attracting beautiful butterflies to your garden is to remember that butterflies begin as caterpillars. Grow plants that provide food for caterpillars and add flowers that adult butterflies feed on, and you are more likely to create a successful butterfly garden. Like birds, different species of caterpillars and butterflies are attracted to different plants and flowers, so if there is a specific type of butterfly you are hoping to attract, make sure to plant flowers that appeal to them. Caterpillars tend to like ash, chokecherry, cottonwood, milkweed, certain grasses, and alfalfa. Adult butterflies are attracted to nectar and pollen-rich plants, such as wildflowers and old-fashioned flower varieties. Nectarbearing flowering plants that butterflies love include asters, bee balm, cinquefolia, cosmos, lilac, marigolds, sunflower, sweat pea, thistles, verbena, and zinnia. Placing cut fruit around the garden or planting fruit bearing trees can help attract butterflies. Mid to late summer is peak butterfly season, but planning flower patches that bloom in succession will help ensure a steady food source for both caterpillars and butterflies to feed on. In addition to food, plants that provide shelter and protection from wind will make butterflies feel more at home in your garden.

Estate planning is more than avoiding probate and saving taxes. A properly designed estate plan provides so much more to protect your family. Most of these protections are ignored in cookie-cutter form driven estate plans. By example…. When Bill and Jane first learned of his illness they sought legal advice. The first lawyer they spoke with said they did not need estate planning. He told them to put everything in joint tenancy, because “it is simple and avoids probate.” They weren’t comfortable with that advice, and sought guidance from a counseling-oriented attorney who took time to learn more about them, their estate, and their goals. Bill’s primary objective was to protect Jane after he died. Under Bill’s plan, their savings, his life insurance and the home would be put in trust. This would protect the assets from a potential predator and help protect her own assets as well. After Bill's death, Jane finally got back in stride. The volunteer work she started to keep her mind off her loss had become a fulfilling passion. She met new people, including David. They connected immediately, and she soon found herself head over heels in love. He proposed. She accepted. Her family noticed that his focus suddenly turned toward a keen interest in her finances. Blindly in love, she did not. Bill’s plan left his assets in trust for Jane. A requirement of receiving benefits was that she obtain a prenuptial agreement to protect her assets upon remarriage. While the assets Bill left her were protected, she needed to take action to protect her own assets. David was enraged when she told him that she was required to have a prenuptial agreement preserving the assets for her children. Realizing that half of the assets were held in trust, and that a prenup would prevent him from receiving the balance upon her death, David sadly lost interest in Jane. While Jane was sad, she also had a comforting feeling that Bill was still protecting her even after his death. Jane had sometimes wondered if the planning she and Bill did was worth the effort. All doubts were now gone.

The Smoking Truth In recent months, North Metro Fire Rescue District has responded to numerous fires that have started from improperly disposed cigarettes or smoking materials. While there has been an overall decline in smoking and related fires over recent years, smoking is still the number one cause of home fire deaths in the United States. Sadly, all of these deaths could have been prevented. It’s important for everyone to be aware of the dangers that smoking can present to you, your loved ones and to your home.
Protect yourself. Prevent fires. • Smoke outside. Most smoking-related fires start inside the home, especially in the bedroom or living room from people falling asleep with a cigarette in their hand. • Don’t discard cigarette butts in potting soil, mulch or other vegetation that is easily combustible. • Douse your cigarette butts and ashes in water to ensure they are fully extinguished before throwing them away.
1 IN 4 VICTIMS
who die from smoking-related fires aren’t the ones who started the fire.
• Discard in a metal container your fully extinguished cigarette butts and ashes. • Don’t let cigarette butts accumulate in your ashtray or waste bin. • Never smoke where medical oxygen is used.
Smoking causes about
480,000 deaths a year in the U.S.
• Don’t toss cigarette butts out the car window. Countless large grass fires have started from discarded cigarettes. • Quit smoking altogether and add years to your life.
25% of
smoking-related fires start in the trash. Cigarettes can
smolder for hours in a trash can, between sofa cushions or between boards on a deck before starting a fire. Sources: NFPA and U.S. Dept. of Health and Human Services

The Broomfield Chamber, Longmont Area Chamber, and the Boulder Chamber have all come together to form the Northwest Chamber Alliance. The Alliance will work collaboratively to address regional issues that impact economic vitality and quality of life for their combined 2,400 business Members representing approximately 100,000 employees. Members of the three Chambers include global giants such as Oracle, Google, and Seagate Technology, as well as small businesses, startups, non-profit organizations, and public institutions. With the initial focus on regional transportation planning and funding, the Northwest Chamber Alliance held their first event on Wednesday, April 6, at the State Capitol. The Alliance and the attendees of the event met with Governor Hickenlooper for an exceptional opportunity to ask the Governor questions regarding local and regional concerns. The Northwest Chamber Alliance then went out onto the steps of the Capitol to formally announce the new partnership and unveil the new logo for the collective group. After lunch, attendees received a very informative presentation from Audrey DeBarros, Executive Director of 36 Commuting Solutions with an update on the Flatiron Flyer, RTD’s new Bus Rapid Transit service between Boulder and Denver, as well as future discussions for arterial BRT solutions and the transportation funding issues that our region is facing. The Alliance also met with various members of the Colorado Senate and Colorado House Representatives for an update on issues they are working on for the current legislative session. This event is just the beginning for us. We are united in our concerns about regional issues such as transportation and affordable housing. We plan to take a leadership role, along with the businesses and other organizations our Chambers represent, in building coalitions with local governments and other stakeholders to advance solutions; solutions that include the voice of businesses. We will also be looking to our Members to let us know what other regional issues they are experiencing that are having a negative impact on business either directly or indirectly. As the great Henry Ford said, “Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success.”
