FROM THE
Get to Know Your Town at
BROOMFIELD DAYS
E
ven as a lifelong resident of Broomfield and the editor of this magazine, I need to do my homework to stay informed about the latest and greatest events and activities happening in our town. Part of the way that I do this is through reading and monitoring the dozens of online forums, outlets, and venues popping up and aiming to connect people across our community. Whether it is Nextdoor or the most recent age and location specific moms group on Facebook, a frequent topic of conversation is “What to do around Broomfield?” Well hopefully, whether you are new or old to Broomfield, you have some awareness of our town’s quintessential community engagement event happening this month, Broomfield Days! Held the third weekend of September, the festival includes activities and entertainment throughout the weekend including a golf tournament and free concert on Friday, and a 5K race, clown contest, parade, trade fair, craft festival, food booths, three stages of entertainment and demonstrations, plus several other features including a beer garden, Bingo, a car show, and specific events for kids and dogs. For decades, Broomfield Days has served as a primary convening event, maintaining traditions that go back to the first days of the City while constantly evolving to who we are today. Grab your hat, sunglasses, water bottle, and a little cash for your pocket and meet up with thousands of familiar friends or get to know new names and faces, while experiencing and learning all about the groups and organizations that make Broomfield your hometown USA. You can find event details in this issue on pages 24-26.

Nominate Your Angel in Broomfield Broomfield Days is an event that defines us, but Broomfield would be nothing without its amazing residents. Do you know someone who selflessly gives to the community? Do you have a friend who you admire for their commitment to a cause or organization? Does your friend help others in the neighborhood and simply make their own corner of the world a better place? Is there someone who inspires you with their generosity of time, treasure or talent? We are looking for those quiet, unsung local angels who embody giving and deserve a round of thanks. We will feature as many short appreciations as space allows in the November issue. Inclusion will be determined by The Broomfielder™ magazine staff. Submit ALL of the following to me, tina@loudmouthmedia.com, by Friday, Oct. 4. 1. Your name: 2. Your email address: 3. Name of Broomfield Angel: 4. Email address of Angel (for permission): 5. 50-word description of how this person makes life better for others: 6. If possible, provide a photo of the person. Rotary Club
Brings Trivia Fundraising to Magical Proportions By Missy Ruzicka
You know who you are. Get out your Felix Felicis potion because we’re going to win the Harry Potter Triwizard Challenge that’s being held on September 29 at the Chateaux at Fox Meadows. All Hogwarts students will be on platform 9¾ in early September, but if you are like me and still waiting for your Hogwarts letter to be delivered, we have a special Ministry of Magic approved event for you! Everyone loves a great fundraiser that involves our giving community, but a community fundraiser that also involves Harry Potter trivia is even better! he Rotary Club of Broomfield excels at their trivia nights but this time they are calling on all Harry Potter fans to join them for an exciting night of wizarding world magic, good food, drinks, costume contests, and of course a Harry Potter Triwizard trivia challenge unlike anything we’ve seen before! Build your best Dumbledore’s Army by gathering your Hermione Grangers, Professor McGonagalls, brilliant Ravenclaws, loyal Hufflepuffs, brave Gryffindors, and of course your cunning Slytherin friends and make a team stronger than any Gryffindor Quidditch team. Use your sorting hat to come up with a team name that’s unique to your love of wizarding world, Death Eaters is probably already chosen. The Ministry of Magic has invited every magical creature, muggle, witch, and wizard alike to join in the festivities. Unlike the Triwizard Cup, which has three challenges and lasts a whole school year, this Triwizard trivia challenge will consist of eight rounds of eight questions, costume challenges, and bonus questions filling the night with delight and we guarantee, not one underwater challenge. While some might say it’s not as exciting as winning the Quidditch World Cup, we believe that the prizes

for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be as wonderful one might say as winning the Daily Prophet Grand Prize Galleon Draw. Space is limited so make sure you sign up with sign up genius https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b084faba623aa8-harry. Using this magical link is the equivalent to putting your name in the Goblet of Fire and comes with its own age restrictions. Ages 14 and up can be on a team and those under 14 make must have an adult on your team or grow a beard just like the Weasley Twins! Online sign-up is way faster than Owl post, especially if your owl is Errol! No need to swing by the Three Broomsticks beforehand because there will be a cash bar in the Great Hall where iPie will be served along with mouthwatering elixirs of all types. I’m hoping for some good ole Butterbeer to help my team on to victory. All the wonderful donations will go to the Broomfield Crossing Rotary to support local charities including Precious Child and the Veteran’s Museum along with other global non-profits. Hope to see you September 29 at the Chateaux from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Re-Assess Your Overall Wellness and Aesthetic Goals Fall is just around the corner and is a perfect time to re-assess your overall health, wellness & aesthetic goals. Advanced medical expertise & aesthetic treatments are now available at CO Center for Aesthetics & Rejuvenation (“CO-CAR”). Dr. Timothy Gajewski is a General Urologist that has a special interest in Hormone Optimization & Aesthetics. Dr. Gajewski has been treating male and female patients with hormone therapy for over 20 years. He has treated thousands of patients over the years and has had the joy of witnessing how lives have been positively impacted by hormone therapy. Studies have shown that optimized hormones are necessary for good health. Dr. Gajewski prefers to work with bio-identical pellets which contain the same chemical structure as the body’s natural hormones. Feeling better can start with a simple blood test. Patients state that they experience increased energy, improved muscle strength, greater ability to lose weight, mental clarity, better libido, feel younger, happier and have an improved quality of life after having their hormones optimized. After hormone treatment, many of Dr. G’s patients began expressing an interest in additional aesthetic services. They wanted their physical appearance to improve as well. In April 2018 Dr. Gajewski founded the CO Center for Aesthetics & Rejuvenation with the goal of helping his patients Look AND Feel Extraordinary! The aesthetic practice is located in Westminster, CO and provides hormone therapy, cosmetic injections including Botox and dermal fillers, CoolSculpting fat reduction treatment and skin and body rejuvenation using the Sciton Laser Platform. This laser system is the most advanced system and allows the
providers to customize treatments and provide greater outcomes for clients. Dr. Gajewski decided on this laser system after extensive research stating that “the Sciton laser allows us to improve overall tone and texture of the epidermis in addition to significant removal of discoloration, reduction of fine lines, wrinkles and improve pore size. This system gives my team the ability to perform laser hair reduction, acne treatments, photo facials and skin tightening in quick, painless procedures that have very limited downtime”. The Sciton Laser system’s HALO Facial has been awarded the “Most Worth It Award” by Real Self in the minimally invasive facial laser category and fall is the perfect time to try a HALO treatment. Dr. Gajewski prides himself on continuing to keep his practice and staff on the cutting edge of technology and will continue to offer only the most effective products and services available in the aesthetics & lifestyle improvement space. The team at CO-CAR offers a complimentary consultation for new patients. Call TODAY ~ Fall is the perfect time to begin treatments to ensure that you look & feel your best by the holiday season! The Broomfield High School Eagle Sports Gala began in 2010 as a way to eliminate doorto-door fundraising by athletes working to raise money for team needs. In searching for a way to upgrade much of the school’s athletic equipment it became apparent that a new solution was needed to provide for gear/ uniforms/etc. that were out-of-date, falling apart, or lacking. And so began the Eagle Sports Gala. Now in its 10th year, the gala has raised and distributed more than $466,255 for Broomfield’s athletic programs. This year’s event will be held at Wonderland Brewery. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. for sponsors and 6:00 p.m. for general admission. The silent auction is open until 9:30 p.m. Entertainment and food are included in the $40 ticket price, with a cash bar. This is an adult-only event. or another consecutive year, Centura Health’s Avista Adventist Hospital is being recognized for its superior work in orthopedics – named a high performing hospital in knee replacements by U.S. News & World Report in its 2019-2020 Best Hospitals Report. The honor places your community hospital among the top 17% nationally for its high performance in this specialty. “I am so proud of Avista,” said local resident, and recent patient Cheryl White. An avid golfer, White said she knew it was time to get her knee done when she could no longer make it through 18 holes of golf. Wanting to get back to a better quality of life, she had her knee replaced earlier this year and now says she’s able to get to the gym daily and is back to golf several days a week. When asked about the experience, she says, “They took amazing care of me at Avista. I’m not surprised to hear their team is nationally ranked.” “This is an exciting honor not only for Avista, but our community – it’s a blessing to be afforded the best care in the country, right in your backyard,” said Calvin Smith, director of the hospital’s surgical services department. “Recognition is always nice, especially at this level, but knowing that we’re able to make an impact in the lives of our friends and neighbors, like Cheryl, is why we do what we do,” Smith adds. U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in nine procedures and conditions. Fewer than a third of all hospitals received any high-performing rating. “For nearly 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to healthcare consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “By providing the most comprehensive data available, we give patients and their physicians’ information to support their search for the best care across a range of specialties.” Specific to Avista’s ranking, high performing indicates the hospital is significantly better than the national average for knee replacement procedures. According to the publication’s research team, only 17% of facilities rated for knee replacement were ranked as “High Performing.” “We’re fortunate to partner with some of the best orthopedic surgeons in the region. Our doctors, nurses and therapists all work in concert to ensure only the best outcomes for our patients,” Smith adds. “We’ve been working tirelessly over the last decade on our program, learning our quality of care is now recognized as among the best in the nation is both exhilarating and reinforcing! I’m thrilled we’re getting to share this news,” Smith said. Avista’s honor is the highest rating U.S. News awards in orthopedic care. More information about the 2019-2020 rankings and ratings can be found on the magazine’s website.

Second Annual
Set for October 13 By Megan Eichner
The second annual Broomfield Trails Marathon will be held on October 13,
sponsored by the Broomfield Rotary Club to raise money for A Precious Child and other charitable causes. Broomfield Rotary has been supporting charities in our community for the last 50 years, and in the last decade has donated more than $1 million to a multitude of organizations. The proceeds from the Marathon will be split evenly between A Precious Child and Broomfield Rotary, which will then distribute to other local charities. Race planners were motivated to create the event by a desire “to form an event that would highlight the great community we have here in Broomfield and engage people beyond our city.”

T
he Broomfield Marathon is on track to become the largest running event in the North Metro area, according to the event website. Although it is named as a marathon, the event will also include a half marathon, as well as 10K and 5K races. The event is being hosted at the Broomfield Community Center, surrounded by the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Library, the Civic Center, and the North Metro Fire Administration Offices. The location provides plenty of parking, spectacular views of the Front Range Mountains, and space for the Expo Area which will feature booths from race sponsors and vendors. Attendees are encouraged to browse, shop, and enjoy the variety of food trucks and beverage stands that will also be available in the Expo Area. And there will be music provided by DJ Jenny D from KOSI Radio during the after-race party. The Marathon is intended for families and people of all ages to enjoy, but is also a professional race to attract more serious runners. The 5K and 10K races will feature ribbons for all finishers as well as the option to bring strollers and well-behaved dogs on a leash. These races are best
suited for new runners, families, kids, or those wanting to walk instead of run. The full marathon and half marathon will feature medals for finishers, cash prizes for top finishers, and the option to run as a relay team for the full marathon. Each racer will receive a numbered bib as well as a professional timing chip. The certified race allows marathon runners to qualify for The Boston Marathon, as well as 5K and 10K runners to qualify for The Bolder Boulder. Runners can register now at www.broomfieldmarathon.com. For those wanting to cheer on runners as they pass by, the best locations will be along any of the open space trails on the course. The race route was created to highlight all of the best parts of Broomfield as well as the spectacular views of the mountains all along the way. Race director John O’Hayre said, “The Broomfield Trails Marathon really capitalizes on the beautiful scenery our area offers and combines the views and trails that come with a trail race with the race support that comes with a street race.” The race route includes many iconic Broomfield trails and locations, including the Brunner Farmhouse, Lake Link Trail, Rock Creek Trail, the First Bank Center, and Big Dry Creek Trail. As the second annual Broomfield Trail Marathon, the organizers have high expectations and hopes for the race to exceed the previous year in participants and funds raised. Last year, the event was able to raise a total of $26,000. There were 800 participants from across Colorado, and even some runners from other states. John O’Hayre said, “last year’s event was a big success, and we are grateful to all the runners, walkers, sponsors, and volunteers who made Broomfield’s first marathon possible. This year we hope to make it even better, as we strive to be a top-rated race in the state.” The goal for this year is to have 1,200 participants and a fundraising total of $30,000.
If you want to get involved but aren’t primed for the run, there are many opportunities for community members who would like to volunteer assisting with water stations, start and finish lines, traffic control, and more. For information about the race or to sign up as a participant or volunteer, please visit www.broomfieldmarathon.com.

Broomfield’s Parks –
A True Community Asset By Bette Erickson
We’re fortunate here in Broomfield: every residence, including every apartment building, is within a half-mile (a ten-minute walk) to a park or designated open space. Studies show nature is a powerful therapy for all ages in reducing depression, obesity, and attention deficit disorder. Photo courtesy of The City and County of Broomfield
S
pending time outdoors, particularly in parks and forests, has been shown to increase the ability to concentrate in both children and adults. Broomfield has more than 281 miles of trails, more than 700 acres of developed parks, and 45 playgrounds. Parks and shelters are open to the public unless the facility has been reserved. A reservation and paid permit allow patrons sole use of a specific facility for a specified time. A permit is required for all large organized events, live bands, inflatable use, water use, and for alcohol consumption. To make a reservation, submit a request through www.B-REx.com.

Questions may be directed to the Broomfield Reservation Line 303464-5509. If you wish to have alcohol at your event, a separate Alcohol Permit must be completed and returned with the Park Reservation Request form. Requests are processed in the order they are received and booked based on availability. Reservations are not final until you’ve received confirmation from Broomfield Recreation Services. Following is a list of the parks and amenities in Broomfield with their locations and amenities. For a complete interactive video describing Broomfield parks, visit www.parks.broomfield.org/. As parents, caregivers, and city planners, we are aware of global threats to our environment, and yet at no time in history have our kids been so separated from routine and direct experience in nature. So why not try a new park with your youngsters? Get outside with the ones you love, pack a picnic, and explore all that Broomfield has to offer.

Broomfield Pool Manager
Makes a Difference
Every Day By Megan Eichner
In our July Issue we interviewed Debra Pfaff, the flower lady of Broomfield, to recognize her hard work and dedication to our community. We asked her to nominate another Broomfield employee who deserves recognition for their commitment and impact. She pointed us to the local pools and Dawn Rachjaibun.

THE BROOMFIELDER™ SEPTEMBER 2019
As
the Program Manager of Aquatics in Broomfield, Dawn is responsible for “anything and everything related to a swimming pool.” Her career and passion for pools began when she became a Lifeguard and Swim Lesson Instructor in Arvada. She was promoted to Pool Manager and eventually full-time Aquatics Coordinator for what is now the Apex Recreation Center in Arvada. She then became Program Manager of Aquatics in Broomfield. She said it “was the best move of my life!” Dawn speaks very highly of her staff of 200, most of which are teenagers. She Dawn Rachjaibun Program Manager of Aquatics is amazed by the work they do every day to improve the safety and health of our community. As Program Manager, she said, “our mission in Aquatics is to offer a variety of aquatic programs and activities to persons of all ages and abilities to promote health, fitness, and fun in and around the water. We are committed to preventing accidents and educating the community about how to enjoy the water safely.” Her sense of purpose comes from seeing kids, families, adults, and seniors enjoying the swimming pools by playing, learning, and exercising.

Every day of work is different for Dawn, but her priorities are always set on safety, training, customer service, and swimming and water exercise lessons. Her positivity and enthusiastic attitude allow her to handle any challenge that her job presents, including communications and work with other city divisions. Dawn recognizes the importance of community feedback in order to best serve the patrons of the pools. She takes time to talk with visitors to make sure they are enjoying their experiences. Based on the feedback she receives, she and her staff work closely to answer questions, solve problems, and improve operations. When she is not helping with daily pool operations or swimming lessons, she is working at her desk to manage new projects and schedule staff. If you asked Dawn, she would say the year only has two seasons: summer and not summer. Unlike most people’s definition of summer, the summer season begins in January for Dawn, when planning and preparation begins for the Bay Aquatic Park. This includes hiring new lifeguards, lifeguard safety training classes, and teaching time for new swimming lesson instructors. By the month of May, all aquatics operations are running in high gear. It is such a busy time that “there are more swimming lessons held in the months of April and May than any other month of the year.” When summer is ending, Dawn’s focus shifts to staffing. When it’s time for kids to go back to school, most of the lifeguard staff goes with them so it can be a challenge to keep the pools fully staffed during the day when all of the facilities are still open. After the Bay is winterized in September, Dawn has time to focus on other projects and planning for the next year. Some of the other projects Dawn has worked on include the Mini Haha Triathlon, the design of the Paul Derda Recreation Center, and the current ren-
ovation of the Broomfield Community Center. The Mini Haha Triathlon was created by Dawn and a few other employees in 2001 as a way to give recreational athletes and families a way to experience the sport as well as create new fitness goals. This event is perfectly named, “Mini ‘cuz it’s short, Haha ‘cuz it’s fun!” Dawn says the success of the event comes from the supportive and happy attitudes of the participants. Dawn was also on the team that created the Paul Derda Recreation Center, and she enjoyed collaborating with architects, contractors, construction teams, community members, and staff to make the center into the fantastic place we know and love. The “dedicated and passionate team truly had the hearts of the community in mind.” Once again they are using this same focus in the design and renovation of the Broomfield Community Center. Dawn is excited to see the new facilities and swimming pools available to our community in the fall of 2020!

Protecting Your Pets While Living with
Coyotes If you subscribe to Nextdoor or any of Broomfield’s Facebook groups you are sure to read regular posts about Broomfield residents’ encounters with wildlife, in particular, coyotes. The recent Denver Metro Area Coyote Behavior Study, led by Dr. Stewart Breck with the USDA National Wildlife Research Center provides several insights: •
Coyotes live in higher population densities in urban areas.
•
Coyotes build their dens and primarily reside in natural areas and open space, but they do hunt everywhere - including in residential areas.
•
Urban coyotes are most active at night, but they can be active during the day.
•
About 92% of coyote conflicts reported between 2003 and 2010 were incidents involving pets. Over 90% of pet-attacks occurred near a resident’s home or backyard. Of the pet-attacks that occurred in open space, 87% involved dogs off-leash.
•
Less than 3% of coyote conflicts were attacks on humans.
One of the most important actions related to living with coyotes, is to protect your pets. Coyotes are opportunistic hunters. If they see an animal that they can easily prey upon, they will. It’s up to you to keep your pet safe so stay near. Colorado Parks and Wildlife recommends always being within five feet of your pet.
Here are some other tips: • • • • • •
38
Keep cats indoors. Always supervise your pet outside. Do not leave your pet unattended in your yard. Keep dogs on a short leash (six feet or less). Avoid known or potential den sites and areas of thick vegetation. Do not allow dogs to “play” with coyotes or foxes. Do not leave pet food and water bowls outside.
THE BROOMFIELDER™ SEPTEMBER 2019
Coyote Hazing Coyote hazing is one of many strategies to reduce or prevent conflicts between humans and coyotes and can be defined as methods that use deterrents to move an animal out of an area or discourage an undesirable behavior or activity. Hazing can help maintain a coyote’s fear of humans and deter them from residential areas such as backyards and playgrounds. Citizens should avoid hazing coyotes near an active den site or pups, and instead should report aggressive coyote behavior under such circumstances to Broomfield Open Space staff.
Low-intensity hazing, intended tactics to scare away coyotes, include: • • • • • • • • •
Banging pots, Shining bright lights Shouting Throwing small rocks or sticks Spraying garden hoses Spraying pepper spray Carrying a ski pole or golf club Using whistles or other noisemakers Practicing the S.M.A.R.T. actions: o Stop! Do not run! If you run, the coyote may chase. o Make yourself look big! Put your hands over your head or pull your jacket up over your head. Look as big as you can so the coyote knows that you are too tough to mess with. o Announce forcefully, “Leave Me Alone”! Repeat if necessary. This lets the coyote know you are a person, and it lets people around you know that you may be in trouble. o Retreat! Back away slowly, but don’t turn your back on the coyote. o Teach your friends and neighbors about coyotes and report coyote encounters to an adult if you’re a child.

Estate planning is more than avoiding probate and saving taxes. A properly designed estate plan can provide so much more to protect your loved ones. Note the following example… Mary and Bill were good parents, and their son John turned out to be a great person but a poor money manager. John had grown up, gotten married, completed college, and had a good job. But John spent every dime he earned, often even before he earned it. John had to have the latest things, and thought using a credit card to get them was a better approach than saving for them. If John got a dollar, he spent two. Bill and Mary sought legal advice before their deaths. The first lawyer they spoke with said they did not need estate planning because their estate would not be death taxable. She told them to put beneficiary designations on all their assets to their son, because “it is simple and avoids probate.” Bill and Mary were not comfortable with that advice, and sought advice from a counseling-oriented attorney who took the time to learn more about them, their son, and their goals. Their primary objective was to protect John from blowing his inheritance after their deaths. Bill and Mary left their assets in trust for John, not directly to him. As a result, John was not able to spend the funds as soon as he got them. John’s parents designed a system to help him learn how his inheritance could help support him for the rest of his life. Bill and Mary had sometimes wondered if the planning they did was worth the extra time and effort. Knowing John would be protected and have the opportunity to learn sound financial principles was worth it.

Building a
Strong and Safe Community By Elizabeth Buckingham
There are so many positive aspects to living in Broomfield. Whether you’ve just moved to the area or your family has lived here for decades, building a strong and safe community is a responsibility we all share. Sergeant Kurt Wederquist of the Broomfield Police Department offers his thoughts on how we can all work together to create an even better place to live.
Q: How can Broomfield residents become more involved? Q: What is the best source of accurate, up-to-date information about community incidents? A: The first thing I would tell people, especially if you’re new to A: I would encourage people to seek information from the ofthe area, is to attend City Council meetings or catch the meeting broadcast on our local cable channel 8. Council meetings can be a wealth of information and insight into projects and topics that affect the growth, development, and lifestyle within our community. Council meetings are also a great way to see many local leaders as well as city and county employees who occasionally appear to present information. I would encourage people to volunteer with a local charity. Volunteering is a great way to encourage kids and young adults to engage more with the Broomfield community, as well as an opportunity to meet some really wonderful people. Every year the Broomfield Police Department sponsors a citizens’ academy here at headquarters. This is a terrific opportunity for people to get a good behind-the-scenes look at our police department and how we work with and protect our citizens.
Q: How can Broomfield residents support
the police department?
A:
Volunteering is also a great way to support the efforts of emergency services and the Broomfield Police Department has a very active volunteer program. Talk directly with us: the police department prides itself on being approachable and engaged. Spend time talking with officers and supervisors, particularly at public events, asking questions about needs and ideas that are important to police employees. This is a great way to understand what challenges policing faces in today’s world as well as the successes we enjoy within our profession. Come out for community events like National Night Out or Broomfield Days and get to know the people who are providing emergency services to you and your family. This gives all of us an opportunity to build new partnerships, and it allows us to share information and simply connect one-on-one.
ficial Broomfield Police Department Facebook and Twitter platforms. The Broomfield Public Information Team is dedicated to releasing the most accurate and real-time information through our social media platforms when possible. In the rare event that your neighborhood is affected by a critical incident, you may receive a reverse 911 call from our dispatch center with information specific to your area. Please follow the pre-recorded instructions you are given until the event is over and you have heard back from the Broomfield Police Department. If you have questions about police presence somewhere in our community or in your neighborhood, please remember to call the non-emergency number (303-438-6400) with those inquiries.
Q: What do you like best about being a police officer? A: In the 33 years I have spent in law enforcement (almost 17 years
with the BPD) I can say without hesitation the best part of my job has been the people I have had a chance to make a difference with. The police are not generally called when people are having their best days; we often see people at their worst and most vulnerable and in their most desperate state of need. If I can somehow be a part of easing people’s fears, frustrations, and even anger and help calm and restore a sense of normalcy to their lives, then that is where I feel I have contributed the most.
Q: What do you wish citizens knew about the police force? A: Simply to remember that we are human; the uniform a police
officer wears contains someone just like you. We are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, and even grandparents. We have wonderful men and women who are dedicated to professionally and respectfully serving this community and ensuring an excellent quality of life for all of our citizens.
Thanks to Sergeant Wederquist and the Broomfield Police Department for their commitment to our community! For more information on any of these opportunities, please visit www.broomfield.org or call 303-464-5529.

DOING SOME LANDSCAPI NG IN THE YARD THIS SUMMER? The City and County of Broomfield Stormwater Management Program would like to remind you that when conducting your landscaping projects, have your landscape material delivered in your driveway or find a staging area on your property. One of the leading causes of water pollution is landscaping material (rocks, compost, dirt, etc.) that is deposited in the curb and gutter. This kind of material can get washed away in stormwater runoff. The City and County of Broomfield works hard to maintain its storm sewer system and drainage ways. Storm sewers discharge directly into creeks, streams and ponds untreated. It is illegal and a violation of the Broomfield Municipal Code to dispose of or allow materials other than stormwater to discharge into the storm sewer system. Thank you for assisting the City and County of Broomfield in its efforts to keep our water clean. For more information, contact the Stormwater Management Program at 303.464.5648 or go to Broomfield.org/Wastewater
