“Excited na dyod ko nga makagraduate, at least makapahulay pud ko panagsa. Pila pud ko ka tuig ug binalik- balik diri sa eskwelahan,” is according to Ms. Grace Abenoja, one of the candidates for cum laude this upcoming graduation 2010. About three hundred ninety-six students are expected to graduate this year. Fourteen of them will graduate with flying color, as they outstand, and become a cum laude. The said event will be on April 13, 2010, at 7:00 o’clock in the morning. This will be held at PECC –Gym of University of southeastern Philippines TagumCampus. Seven-five came from BEED, twenty- three from BSED, twenty from forestry, thirty four from BSAE and the rest came from BAT and BSA. They will sing the song Journey, as to parent and It’s “Gonna Make Sense” for their graduation song.
With the help of technology, students nowadays can learn more information and learn it more quickly. Learning is enhanced by the way information is introduced to them .Internet, multimedia computers and television and radio have their own way of making learning easier. And that is what the students of the University of Southeastern Philippines is thankful for. Nowadays most students have access to Internet which is the most convenient way to find information about nearly everything .If one knows how to search, the knowledge is in his or hers grasp. Just a little ambition is needed to learn the information. The hours spent on finding something in the library can be used for studying the information acquired for minutes.
Moreover , the process of learning is made easier by multimedia .It is a fact that a person learns more when he or she sees and hears something rather than just reads it or listens to it. There are so many films and interactive learning programs which greatly improve the learning process .Thus; acquiring knowledge is not so boring, a very important factor leading to great results: learning is faster and more thorough. Stu-
dents are exposed to information almost constantly .During school hours the information is introduced by the teachers .During their leisure time – by the television or the computer. To sum up, technology improves our lives in many directions one of which is the process of learning. Students learn more quickly and more because it has been made easier to use, find and remember information.

School Uniform:
To wear or not to wear
The University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus proposed that all student of the institution should wear school uniform. The following principles should serve as a guide: Student’s basic right to go to school, study and learn is of paramount importance and should be respected and promoted at all times. The right to learn in school is very significant and to be exercised by the students in the campus to produce highly competitive graduates. Student’s attire should not reflect for the school as an institution for learning. It should not be a cause of discrimination particularly for students belonging to a lower socio-economic status. Those are the principles administered by the University for the welfare of the students they are catering to. We could also add up some suggested attire for some students who don’t like to wear their school uniform. For our gentlemen, polo shirt or tee shirt with sleeves in any plain color with a minimum of prints, pants long in any color and foot wear would be leather or any black shoe in the school. For our ladies, it could be, skirt and blouse, bloused and pants, blouse with tee and skirt of any color, any print and foot wear close shoes black in color. For students with existing uniforms, they can still continue wearing them if they desire so. Students are discouraged from wearing expensive (signature or designed brand) or flashy clothes, tight-fitting pants/ blouses/dresses, mini skirt, short, blouses with plunging necklines, hip-hop pants for boys and sleepwear. In the other side, some refuse to follow this proposal for some reasons. And for our institution we are campaigning for the implementation of the proposal for it will serve as the identity of the school from other schools. Not just like that, it will also make the students neat and clean. Students are given choices whether to wear the school uniform or not but just put in mind that doing so is not out o f obedience to the organization proposing such order but it will be for one’s own benefit.

Show me the Money “Nganung ingon ani man kadako ang bayronon? Asa naman pud
ni mapadulong?” an intrepid statement of one student in University of Southeastern Philippines as she read the list of student’s fines posted outside by one f the organization of USeP last April 5, 2010. It was mind boggling especially on how it happened that the students got an undesirable amount of fines. Although the students were aware of the policies f the said organization, still the result was unexpected. Incredible truth but must e accepted. Yet the organization provides the students enough evidences which indicate the list of the absences of the students during every program. It is still not enough to ease the rage and doubt of the student to the organization. Yes! It is equivocal because
the students pay such amount of money when in fact they have no idea if where it goes. The most terrifying is that this organization failed to build a good trade among students as an exchange for their money, to the extent that students ponder that they are worthy to pay such amount of money through the existing project of this organization, but the question is where is now the project? Remember that there will be no rebellion if the government and his community were in good company. It is the students right to question the credibility of an organization especially when the subject is money. As an organization exists because of the students they should do their responsibility by giving students such privileges that they will benefit from it. If not, then sooner someone would knock at their door and says “show me the money”.

Enrolment: Rotten System
Job Fair to save the day

Patience that is the key manner to develop when enrollment comes in Usep. For hundred of students coming from different programs of the school are mixed together waiting and wanting for one goal, to be enrolled. One great scenario I observe when enrollment comes is all the students are bothering, cramming and people always busy… busy finishing projects to submit. Busy in signing clearance. In addition all students have sentiments in the new enrolling system that the university is implementing. Students say Usep are getting worst every now and then. One question rises in my mind is that why does the enrollment process in Usep is very slow compared to other school? It is really unavoidable that the system will experience flaws, since the time frame given to the develop-
ers of the system is very limited. As to the enrollment procedure long ago, I really did not experience so much hardship experience except after paying the matriculation… before after paying to the cashier, they will give me two copies of the COR, one for the registrar and one for me.. but now after paying, I will only receive a receipt of what I had paid and then I will line up to that very long queue of students for the registration. The only problem that I could really see is the long before huge crowd of students during enrollment time. My suggestion would be, they allot more personnel or open cubicle for the cashier and registrar during enrollment period and for the personnel, they should have to be much more disciplined. They should have to come on time, 8:00 am is 8:00 am not 9 0r 10.
BREAKING BARRIERS Jeramie Suan
Ballot Secrecy: Surprises The manager that got the P690-million contract to supply “ballot secrecy folders” for the elections says he was surprised by the size of the order made by the Commission on Elections. He should be. His company, OTC Paper Supply, was asked to supply the Comelec with 1.8 million folders, enough to equip a total of 82,500 precincts with 22 folders per precinct, although there will only be 76,340 clustered precincts nationwide for the May 10 elections. But whatever his reservations about the contract, the manager, Henry Young, kept to himself. If the Comelec wanted to order more folders than what it needed, he probably figured, why
would he complain? His firm was getting more business, even if to anyone who was not involved in the transaction such an excessive purchase order would already suggest that some monkey business was being thrown into the bargain. The commissioners have said they didn’t know that the folders cost so much, with one of them explaining that they were misled because the price was not spelled out in words. Are they saying they approved the contract without knowing it was worth P690 million? There are a lot of questions the commissioners must answer, and it would be a big surprise if an internal inquiry conducted by their subordinates will yield satisfactory answers.

“I want to apply,” student-applicants most say with feeling. A hopeful exclamation from student-applicant somebody must say to themselves too during the Job Fair. This brings up the hope of each applicant which really the need most. The Guidance Counselor of University of Southeastern Philippines Tagum-Mabini Campus, Mrs. Fraulein Silva-Bosch heads over the Job Fair 2010. With endeavor, Mrs. Silva-Bosch makes the PECC gymnasium in USeP Tagum-Mabini Campus a hive for applicants. The applicants are composed graduating student, alumnae, alumni and out-campus applicants. On March 8, 2010, a letter of excuse for the thirty two Peer Counselors from PCO, an organization in which the Guidance Office mainstreams responsibilities for molding responsive students, has been sent by the Guidance Counselor Fraulein Silva-Bosch. These thirty two Peer Counselors are briefed and authorized to underpin on Job Fair 2010. Steps are to be followed in applying jobs. The steps rec-
ommend subtle obedience for the applicants. During the job fair, busy applicants and muttering interviewees from the participating companies or agencies are witnessed. With the ear-catching echoes, the gymnasium reechoes voices of exchanging answerand-questions business. Along with the rails of employment, underemployment and unemployment, the wheels of applicants track towards better lives. After they graduated, there they can be proud of. A job that helps them to cope with their responsibilities, it is just as easy as shopping! Hence, the Job Fair undergoes in university to university that keeps the upholding of the employment rate in the Philippines. My eyes just amazed me with the proliferation of ukay-ukay shoes (second hand shoes) along the Quezon street of Tagum City. From famous brands - Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Ferragamo, Courreges, YSL etc… name it and you’ll have a variety of choice from slightly used, used, to badly used and cannot be used ones. For those who are on a tight budget, this is the best fashion at low cost. Imagine acquiring a Chanel for just P150 that’s quite a jackpot! Jefcy Mamalias
Jefcy Mamalias University of Southeastern Philippines is a well-known University that offers bachelor degree courses and produces competitive graduates. A standard university is often mentioned by the veteran students, parents and teachers to subject USeP. Parents promote this university to their children as a good shaper and awakener to the knowledge and skills of the learners. But without having a glance of experience of being students at USeP, you would not know certainly, that behind the simplicity of the campus every student experience the essence of torture given by those hard professors. Quizzes, long tests, projects, oral presentation, flow of mood and attitudes of the teachers and the favoritism they do. Teachers’ teaching approach, strategies, assessment method and tools plus their passive indifference or stubborn self-will neglect the varied roles they should play in class only give us traumatic and tragic experiences. If final exam were approaching better save your sleep or
take energy drink not in studying but for the list of project that the teachers demand. In this university every individual dream to have a day without a morning just to finish distinctive works which students don’t think still necessary with their course. This made students being persevere not to sleep for a day. But, for me college life is like a mystery of the rosary which has a mystery of pain and a mystery of happiness. Not all the torture that the students experience here made them small, weak and ignorant but it made them having self-reliance and being challenge to pursue their studies to experience contentment and overwhelmed joy not only for their achievements but to others too. These experiences may consider as a wonderful torture for the students not only to be a better but a best person someday. Which everyone you know like friends, relatives, parents and most of all God would be proud of you. Just always remember according to Bill Baughan, that in the game of life it’s a good idea to have a few early losses, which relieves you of the pressure of trying to maintain an undefeated season.
In this world full of imperfections, there is a fact that we must accept-nobody is indeed perfect. Each of us has his/her own share of the imperfections in the world. This is what we call “human frailty.” We are but humans perhaps, but in spite of this, we search for the fullness of our lives…for the richness of this crop of existenceexcellence. What then is excellence? In the words of John W. Garner, “Excellence is doing ordinary things extraordinarily well.” Excellence can therefore be achieved even in the most basic and simplest thing we do. How can we achieve excellence then? Striving for the best and giving our greatest shot to life’s challenges exemplify excellence. Excellence does not always mean perfection. Doing what you “should” and “could” do, and letting the day go without bitter regrets in mind connotes excellence. It does not necessarily entail that everything must be perfect. Then, we strive and strive more. It doesn’t stop there. Striving for excellence is a gradual process. It requires a whole lot of effort, determination, patience and courage to achieve it. Excellence is also doing a particular task the nicest way we can. When I say nice, I mean achieving something not for selfish or evil motives. It is not all about winning, but losing oneself for others. That’s what we call excellence in a humane way. As long as we do not step on the rights of another person, we’re doing it the right way.
Perfection is being right, whereas excellence is the willingness to be wrong. We must admit that as human beings, we have the capacity to commit mistakes. Each of us is bounded by his/her own set of limitations. It is up to us then on how we are going to translate this weakness into something positive. Mistakes are actually points of reflection…points of reconsideration. As they say, “from a bit of failure is a spark of learning.” A person who learns from his/her mistakes is less likely to repeat the same mistakes over again. From our shortcomings, we learn…from our learning, we improve…and from these improvements, we succeed. The secret there is constancy of purpose. We must not be disheartened by our failures but rather, we must take them as stepping stones in life. What counts is not how many times we stumbled down our path but how many times we stood up and moved on. Indeed, one can never understand the real meaning of success until he learns the value of failure.

The USeP Tagum- early February during rainy weeks, the administration has come up to build the new pathway near Panadera going to the the school. It was constructed by Jeli Escoto and Bebot Cabanial both Usep workers. The new pathway was early used but only those dry parts. Student’s said” wow! The pathway is already cemented we don’t need to walk with mud. The students really benefited the new pathway, according to them” we can walk farter and with poise. On the other hand Mr.
Quirante said that “this new cemented pathway has well done in fact it was already finished. However, the trees near it will be cut especially the eight to nine coco trees. This will be cut for students safety and so that the cemented part will not be broken. He said” the pathway has stop and not to be continued in extending of it because for the fact that someday the whole pathway near usep will be all asphalted. If the project has to be continued the budget from the administration will be wasted. However, the project has done for the students good.
“The schedule for interview is on April 12, 2010 and the English Bridge Program (EBP) starts on April 15, 2010” Organization of Student Affair’s Head, Sir Reynaldo S. Duran has said. “The interview for the examiners is departmental. When the examinees get their rate form of entrance examination, they should proceed to the course or program they want to take.” OSA Head added. For freshmen-interviewees who prefer education, they are to be interviewed in General Education Department, so do the other interviewees will proceed to the department where their courses or program has appropriated. Each department will interrogate the personal background of students taking their respective program. For Education department, they include the different skills and talents of every upcoming freshman as part of their criteria in judging the competency; for agriculture freshmen, the capability to face generally with different
environment; and for Information Technology students, their talents in coping with computer literacy with the fast-pace of change globally. However the most significant in this interview is the willingness of every student to take up there preferred course no matter how difficult it is. On the other hand, The English Bridge Program (EBP) is to be enrolled by the USePAT examinees who got the passing rate or higher as qualification. The EBP is a program that polishes and improves the skills and abilities of the examinees. “I think the EBP will be scheduled on April 15 or 19, 2010 and we still have training,” Professor Milagros A. Pedrosa has said. The University of Southeastern Philippines endeavors for the success of EBP and Interviews in each department and the freshmen-interviews do well too.
