Issue 1
Hi. You’ve made it. ...3 years...wow. That’s how long I’ve been doing this studygram thing for now. Since the 1st of January 2016. A very long time. You might have just started following me and think my account is new but no, I’ve been here a while now. And for most of that time it was called @procrastination.sucks but even that feels a lifetime ago now (it has actually only been about 6 months). I really wanted to make this zine because while Instagram is amazing... to me my account feels chaotic and unorganised half of the time, and while that is the reality of my life, it makes it hard for me to share the bigger or more concrete ideas that I want to share with you. So without further ado...welcome to the zine! I hope you enjoy it and please give me all the positive feedback and constructive criticism. I’m hoping to keep this up for the next six months or so, so your advice and opinions are really valuable to me. Enjoy! Louise <3

If you follow my Instagram stories you are probably wondering where Taylor Swift and Glee and Imagine Dragons are but I think those things are more like constants in my life, rather than singles that stood out.

This year I also rekindled my love for YouTube. Ah my one true love. I was a big fan of YouTube back in 2014 when everyone was, but nowadays I feel like I’m the only one (especially when I talk to people I know in real life rather than online). But if you do watch YouTube currently you will know that everyone is constantly talking about change. Shane Dawson is still successful a decade after starting his channel because he constantly evolves and reinvents his content, and so I don’t watch the people I was watching 5 years ago. So here’s who I have been watching this year: Alfie Deyes beautiful

In February I got to see Imagine Dragons. And wow. You all probably think I’m a big fan and I am but it was actually this concert that did that. Until then they were just a band I loved that I thought would be great in concert but the concert was so great (maybe just because it’s the only standing concert I’ve been to so far haha) that I’ve fallen head over heels. If you like them and you get the chance to see them, go, you won’t regret it. The other main music event that I got to see was Darren Criss and Lea Michele. Which was also just an amazing evening because I got to catch up with some friends that I hadn’t seen in a while. As you know I’m a big fan of Darren Criss and the amazing stuff he has done since finishing Glee. I’m also a huge fan of Rachel Berry (the character Lea Michele played on Glee) but I wasn’t the biggest fan of Lea Michele. I didn’t dislike her, I just wasn’t particularly interested in the work she has done since Glee; however, she balanced out the concert perfectly and it was a magical celebration of music and theatre. The air in that room was magical and I am very grateful that I was one of the few who managed to get a ticket. And last on my highlights list is Hamilton which was as magical as expected. I won’t bore you with the details as I’m sure most of you are fans yourself (or if not you are sick of your friends and family going on about it). However, I will admit that it is the music and lyrics that make me love this musical so much. Getting to see it performed was more like the cherry on top for me. ←

Some 2018 Highlights: Seeing The Greatest Showman Passing Level 1 Iceskating American Crime Story S2 Seeing Hamilton Seeing Imagine Dragons Running the London Marathon Doing lots of Running in General Raising money for Mind The amazing cookie my friends so generously got me Making a Greatest Showman Cake Rebranding to louisedoeslife Getting to dress up as Casey Neistat, Cheryl Blossom and Einstein Finishing secondary school Year 13 Prom Seeing Everybody’s Talking About Jamie Getting good A Level results Shane Dawson’s Youtube Series’ Getting hooked on Youtube Craft videos Travelling by myself to an overnight interview for a scholarship Going to Dubai Moving to Bristol Decorating my awesome uni room Going Clubbing Getting to study Engineering Studygram doing well again Making some amazing friends at Uni Seeing Darren Criss & Lea Michele Our Engineering Christmas Formal The point of the page is to show you that although I complain a lot of the time, I am living a pretty great life right now. I guess I’m just not the best at sharing the good stuff online, partly because it’s so much easier to whine but also largely because the good stuff often involves other people who haven’t consented to sharing their lives online. 2018 has been full of goal filling and memorable moments. I don’t expect 2019 to be quite so good looking on paper but I really hope 2019 will be filled with lots of love and happiness anyway :)

There seems to be a current trend telling people to NOT set new years resolutions. And I don't like it. Personally I think goals, self improvement and self reflection can be really fun and healthy. The problem is that most people set one really vague and often unrealistic goal with no plans for how to get there and they have given up by the end of January. Last year I decided to combat this by, instead of setting one new year's resolution, instead setting myself a number of SMART goals for the year...and it worked amazingly! I didn't quite achieve them all but I was really able to keep them in mind for the whole year and it really helps me to see how much progress I have made. Most people probably know this already but & incase you didn't or you F need reminding, this is what SMART means: 1

These are the goals I set myself in 2018. But as you can see I also took some time to reflect on 2017 and what I had learnt. It sounds silly but this allows you to consciously learn lessons in life and keep those things in mind rather than just learn the lessons subconsciously. This also helps you create goals for the next year. A lot of the goals I set for 2018 were things I knew I would probably achieve anyway as I already had them planned such as the marathon and completing my A-levels. AND THAT’S OKAY. They were still difficult things and I would still have to put a lot of work into them so why not identify them as my priority and goals for the year rather than invent another list of things that I might not necessarily have the time to complete while busy with the aforementioned things. It also means at the end of the year I can sit back and see how much I’ve done. And I am very, very proud of some of the things I’ve achieved this year I have to admit. Once again, I reflected on the year just passed and set some measurable goals for the year ahead. I don’t plan on 2019 being as ‘epic’ as 2018 was, but I would like to feel a lot more happy and settled and fulfilled if I can. I’m also going to take the time to identify some goals for January and maybe for the months afterwards as well. I also know I have some habits I want to work on in January and I will be setting up a habit tracker to help me do that. This allows you to break your goals down into more manageable chunks and makes sure you don’t just put them off thinking you have the whole year ahead, and suddenly it’s too late.
How am I going to plan in 2019? Because...I need to start planning again. In 2018 I kept a bullet journal for the first half of the year but once exams came I stopped and I never picked my bullet journal up again. The problem is I didn’t use an alternative, I just barely planned for the second half of the year. And while it is possible to get by without planning, I will never be optimising my time and productivity if I don’t plan. So...I need to start planning again. Here are the options: - The standard diary a family friend bought me for Christmas - The Filofax my aunt gave me for Christmas - Digital planning using a calendar and to do list - A complete digital planner - Go back to bullet journaling - Buy myself a nice planner I actually like I eventually decided I want to use the Filofax. I’ve always loved Filofaxes and I used to have one a long time ago, because they are extremely customisable while still being a premade planner. The problem with bullet journaling for me was that if I fell one week behind I would feel very disorganised and overwhelmed. It’s hard to have a simple spread when you are using a bullet journal, and sometimes you want that. Will it last? I hope so. But I do expect I will go out and choose myself another Filofax in a month or so because I’m not completely in love with the design of the one my aunt gave me and it’s also pocket size which isn’t the greatest. I think I would rather have an A5 planner than an A6 one personally. I also might look into buying different refill packs and customised pages from Etsy as people have created some wonderful inserts. So it’s a mess, but I’ll keep you updated! How will you be planning in 2019?

These are some scans of some of the pages of the bullet journal I kept at the start of the year. I loved it and the creative outlet it gave me (that was what I was really looking for when I started it) but as I said, I found it difficult to keep on top of it if I ever fell slightly behind. Although these pages look crazy, I actually had a very efficient system. I would write a master to do list each week, a daily to do list and I often kept a mini habit tracker for what I needed to focus on that week. The rest was normally just some photos or quotes to decorate it.
