Tips for starting a career in Microblading The newest trend on the beauty circuit is taking the salon world by storm. Microblading is also known as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, 3D brows to name a few. It is gaining in popularity across the world with the promise of eyebrow perfection in two hours. The training for this “semipermanent technique is everywhere on Facebook and Instagram. Many of the training classes are a two-day course with the promise of big money. Here is the 411 from someone who has taken 3 courses and one on one permanent makeup training. This is not a one class, big money venture. You are a tattoo/permanent makeup professional, and you need to know the same information that someone who does any type of tattooing needs to know. There are so many skin types, medications and slight variations in techniques that will drastically affect the outcome of your tattoo. The problem with many of the twoday classes is that you do not see the healed results. And of course, the healed results are everything. The popularity of online review sites makes good education more important
than ever, one or more bad review could severely hurt your business. Here is my advice on embarking on a career in permanent makeup. First and most importantly understand that you are tattooing. Your tattoo will fade quicker than machine tattoos, but they can last years. Start by doing extensive research on the trainers you are considering. The chances are that a trainer who took a two-day class is not going to be adequate. But a trainer who has been doing permanent makeup for many years may not be either; they may be using antiquated procedures. You want a class that covers color theory focuses on retention, troubleshooting, techniques for different skin types, clear aftercare and has plenty of time for hands-on practice. All of this knowledge and skills are required because many of your clients will be clients who have little to no brow hair and you will be doing a total reconstruction. The rewards are great for artists that work hard at perfecting their craft and seek continuing education. Skilled PMU eyebrow artists can be booked for months in advance. Take your time, find the right instructor and practice, practice, practice. All of these skills may not make you perfect, but it will give you the ability to change the way your clients see themselves. Michelle Rath www.sinfulbrows.com 3
