Landscape Narrative: The rations arrive late in the afternoon, and a crowd sublimate at the gap, as usual. The battered packages are accompanied by a seeping sneering and snickering. Quietly they are retrieved. The procession to the market, then, is almost laughable. Like one man had joked, they weren’t unlike nested mice with a precious crumb, the crowd traces the moulding food – reluctant, even at its irrefutability. As Subhi passes the gap he closes for a look outside: a pulsed crowd trickles from the city’s undergrowth; stoic but seemingly purposeful. “Subhi!” mother yells. He lingers for another second before running to catch her, who, with the crowd, was already around the corner. Underneath the tall edges of the market. The people’s mood become much lighter, as if their indignities were cloaked by its walls. There were chuckles, occasional laughter, and warm smiles. Subhi, perhaps with a half bitten apple in his hand, glimpses the sprawling city brimming the tall enclosure and beyond the lurched backs and peering shoulders. However, he does not feel yearning nor longing, rather, a gratefulness. As an ephemeral warmth spring from the concrete.

Temporality and Existence: The sudden congregations of crowds in the square and outside world, as observed by Subhi, are similarly absurd, both solely implicating survival without purpose. Universality Of Experience and Perception: Intimate pathways, concentrated, condensed and synchronized movement, increased chance of encounter by funnelling by division, and universal optical field the trough. Such creates the alleviating difference between the immense but lonely outside, and the lonely but highly communal square. The Enclosure: Explorations of planar composition and manipulations of the ground plane: framed, deterministic congregational space and passageway, and contrasting market; enclosed perpendicularly and heavily depressed, concrete walls providing mass, yet indirectly transmitting warmth (thermal mass). The two book-ends are linked but sheltered by the landscape and a broken axis.
