Why Armenia?

When you visit Armenia, take the occasion to stop and listen attentively to your inner rhythm. Attune it to the rhythm of the life pulsing through "the country of a found and a lost Eden". Set your pace to its pace - stroll through the bustling avenues of major cities, walk along the quaint streets of provincial towns. Relax on the sun-warmed steps of a hilltop chapel. Enjoy a leisurely conversation in a mountain hamlet - let the flow of the life of the country embrace you. Sharpen your senses and feel Armenia.!

Location

Armenia is situated along the route of the Great Silk Road, it is a landlocked country of rugged mountains and extinct volcanoes, located in the southern Caucasus, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea.! It is the smallest of the former Soviet republics, bounded by Georgia on the north, Azerbaijan on the east, Iran on the south, and Turkey on the west.

Nature of Armenia

With eight geographic zones, seven climates, nine altitudes, sixteen soil zones; plus over half of all plant species in the Transcaucasus and two-thirds of all bird species found in Europe, Armenia’s small territory is a stunning biotops region! More varieties of topographies, plants and fauna can be found per square kilometer in Armenia than almost anywhere on earth. The closest rival for the same type of diversity its the USA, and it requires 100 times the space as Armenia.

Culture of Armenia

One of the most ancient civilizations in the world, Armenia is often referred to as an ‘open air’ museum in terms of both nature and culture. Over the centuries, it has created and developed a modern, sophisticated and living culture at the intersection of the east and the west, unique in many ways. Some of the most significant features of the culture of Armenia are reflected in its pre-historic and early Christian monuments, most artistic fashion, in needlework, carvings, design, carpet weaving and even more. Very important were also the adoption of Christianity as state religion in 301 and the inventions of the Armenian alphabet in 405, which helped Armenians preserve their identity and develop unique cultural traditions.

History of Armenia

The Armenian civilization had its beginnings nearly 5,000 years ago. And it’s one of the world's oldest civilizations, Armenia once included Mount Ararat, which biblical tradition identifies as the mountain that Noah's ark rested on after the flood. It was the first country in the world to officially embrace Christianity as its religion (c. A.D. 300). No wonder, that there are more than 4000 historical monuments all around Armenia including ancient castles, unique monasteries, pagan temples and old Armenian historic churches. Here you can find the oldest Christian Churches of the World, including UNESCO Heritage site - Mother Cathedral of the Armenian Apostolic Church and Churches nearby in Holy Echmiadzin.

Armenian cuisine

Armenian cuisine is as ancient as the history of Armenia, a combination of different tastes and aromas. The food often has quite a distinct smell. Closely related to eastern and Mediterranean cuisine, various spices, vegetables, fish, and fruits combine to present unique dishes. Armenia is also famous for its wine and brandy. In particular, Armenian cognac is renowned worldwide (winner of several awards), and was considered by the late British Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill, as his favorite.
