Falmouth Christmas Festival 13-15 December 2019
Feedback from the business community indicated a desire to enhance the Christmas offer
So, an idea is being developed –
‘a celebration of Christmas’ and for businesses to think about linking it in to three periods in Falmouth’s rich history:
• Packet Ships • Victorian/Dickensian • World War I and II
Thereby giving broad scope for businesses and organisations in Falmouth to engage with and celebrate the weekend in as many ways as possible‌
Ideas: Themed dress for staff – various eras/each street ‘adopts an era’ All businesses create themed window displays Themed markets/events within public spaces to complement Street by street events eg High Street collaboration Victoriana-themed fairground WWI Christmas truce football match re-enactment Themed films/theatre/workshops eg The Poly, FAG, NMMC Outside trading as road closures will be managed by Town Team Themed walks through the town, talks and exhibitions hosted by businesses Music – themed choirs, acts, groups throughout the town and in businesses Food & drink – themed menus/events/activities
Moving it forward • Tight timescales so plan is to develop an idea this year, that can be refined and expanded into larger festival in future years • Town Team will manage structure, format, event planning, road closures and marketing. • For this to progress, there needs to be:
1. 2.
Commitment from business community to support and engage with events/activity Street champions to work with Town Team to develop the event idea, spread the word and assist with marketing effort
As agreed at the meeting on 31st July, businesses to get back in touch by first week of September with their commitment to get involved eg putting on event in their premises or in their street/area. Its only by more things going on, that we can get this new idea off the ground‌
