Welcome to Falmouth Spring Festival 2020, organised by Falmouth BID. I’m delighted that the University of Exeter will be sponsoring the event once again. Widely recognised for its teaching and research excellence, the University of Exeter has two campuses in Cornwall, one in Penryn near Falmouth, and the other at Treliske, Truro. Exeter bring a wealth of talent, creativity and imagination to the table and I look forward to working alongside them to deliver a colourful Spring Festival! We’re planning a range of lovely activities – Spring Clean Days, Paint the Town Yellow Day, Science in the Pub, guided walks and a host more besides!

For all things Falmouth follow. . .

So whether you’re local, visiting Falmouth from another part of Cornwall or further afield, we hope you have a fantastic time, enjoy the Festival and return to this special part of the world in the near future.

Cutting Carbon with Local Actions

We are immersed in a world inhabited mainly by bacteria. These microorganisms can be found everywhere. Dr Pawel Sierocinski studies what we can learn from bacteria; come along and discover what happens when bacterial communities go to war.

Venue: 5 Degrees West Date & time: Tuesday 24 March, 6pm A workshop exploring the role of local environmental action groups and the different activities that we can all do to help reduce our carbon footprint. This will include cutting our energy consumption, generating renewable energy locally, as well as options to offset our emissions.

Venue: The Working Boat Date & time: Wednesday 25 March, 6pm Seagrass ecosystems are vitally important marine habitats, found across the globe from Australia to Canada. Dr Rosalind Shaw’s research, in close collaboration with Cornwall Council, focusses on the Making Space for Nature project to improve public spaces such as small parks and road verges for wildlife and people.
