GLUED TO MY TWITTER FEED FOR THE ENTIRE MORNING, AT 10:02 A.M. ON JUNE 26, I REFRESHED IT ONE LAST TIME TO LEARN THAT THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT HAD RULED IN FAVOR OF MARRIAGE EQUALITY. I sat at my desk and tears began streaming down my face. Shaking from an emotional high, I called loved ones to spread the good news. It’s a moment that will forever be ingrained into my memory, and a morning that I will recite to younger generations. We witnessed history that day. I can’t tell you how happy it makes me to be writing this in my editor’s letter for our V4 issue. When we launched Love Inc., only 14 states had the freedom to marry. The road has been a long one, beginning way back in 1970 when a brave couple decided to fight for the basic human right. To celebrate, we’ve included a special marriage equality section (page 78) that gives a quick history lesson on the obstacles, the victories and the individuals who led the way. And if this summer’s news has you itching to make it official with your longtime love, we have everything you need to know about elopements on page 28. Don’t invite anyone to the shower who will not be invited to the wedding (the sole exception is office showers). Don’t expect anyone to throw you a shower—it is a bonus, not an obligation. And under no circumstance should you throw a shower for yourself. Showers should be scheduled from a couple of months to a couple of weeks before the wedding. It’s completely okay to have multiple showers—just make sure the hosts coordinate with each other.

With the recent ruling in favor of marriage equality in the United States (hooray!), you and your longtime love might be itching to make it official. We spoke with Bernadette Smith, founder of 14 Stories, an event planning company that, along with their full-service option, helps 3040 couples a year plan their elopements, and she gave us the scoop on these simpler affairs.

CONSIDER THE VENUE: For those who are searching for
a space outside of City Hall, Smith recommends avoiding the popular hotel conference room and going straight to the suite. “Small hotel conference rooms seem perfect for an intimate wedding, but these spaces are usually used for corporate meetings and need a lot of decor to make it feel special,” she explains. “A hotel suite might be worth the splurge, especially if you can spend your wedding night in an extraordinary space.” Another locale favorite? Parks! But Smith warns to watch out for bad weather. “Make sure you have a solid back-up plan.”

VENDORS TO BOOK: At the very least you need a wedding officiant, but Smith also recommends hiring a celebrant who can create a personal, custom wedding ceremony and a photographer. LEGAL DETAILS: Make sure you have an officiant who can
guide you in not only getting your marriage license but also your marriage certificate to prove that you’re actually married. “In some states, this is not automatically sent to the couple after the ceremony,” notes Smith. “Also, make sure you are clear on the marriage laws of that state since some require a 1-3 day waiting period, blood tests and witnesses.”

Victim of the early ‘aughts’ over-plucke d brows? We aske d top groomers for tips on growing out your botche d brow line to help you have lush, face-flattering arches, just in time for the we dding day. If you aspire to have Cara Delevingne boldness, then get ready to embark on a journey. Depending on your current brow status, it can take up to six months to develop a full, natural look. “Put your tweezers down!” exclaims Malynda Vigliotti, founder of the Boom Boom Brow Bar in New York City. Hair grows in three phases—anagen (the growth phase), catagen (the resting phase) and telogen (the shedding phase). “You want all of your hair to get on the same growth cycle, which makes it much more manageable,” she continues. But the wait is well worth it. “Bold eyebrows are youthful and fresh-looking—who doesn’t want that?” notes Sharon Becker, owner of SB Beauty. “The modern face is a cleaner look, underdone by previous standards, so the bold brow is a chic nod to the natural look.”

TOOLS TO TAME
Your brows are going to naturally be a little disheveled once you ditch the tweezers, but remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint. Keep strays at bay by having these tools on-hand:
Facial hair scissors: “Invest in little scissors to help you trim the tops and ends,” says Becker. “Using a spoolie brush or clean mascara wand, brush your brows upward and slightly trim the super long hairs.” Brow Wax: For hairs that just won’t stay down, brush over them with a brow wax (hairspray also works!). Brow Pencil: During the growth process, use a brow pencil to
fill in the inconsistencies. “Use small, feathery strokes to fill in the bottom of your brow from the inside to the arch,” explains Becker. “Work along the arch and toward the outer eye, and then blend with a spoolie.”
Brow Powder: While pencils will offer more correction on shape, brow powders can subtly add volume and fill in sparse spaces. “Smashbox has a nifty little kit that offers you two shades of color that you can then set with the gel,” hints Becker. “Add a brush and you’re set.” Tinte d Gel: “If you already have a decent brow, lack skill in application or are just lazy and want a brush-on shortcut, consider a tinted brow gel—it’s also good for layering over brown pencil in a sweaty, summer climate,” says Becker. Vigliotti agrees, “It helps create the illusion of fullness and make them look filled in without them being so.” Growth Serum: This clear gel will expedite growth, but only in
areas that had hair before. Vigliotti suggests putting it on morning and night for best results. “I always recommend to my clients to put it right by your toothpaste so you remember to use it.”

Contour with Confidence “If you are more masculine-centered, then you want to contour your face and create a more chiseled, square shape rather than a soft, oval shape that tends to look more feminine,” explains Vanessa Ungaro of New York City-based luxury hair and makeup team Lauren+Vanessa.

Use cream-based products to create a chiseled effect. “It will look and feel more natural,” she adds. Pick a cream that is 2-3 shades darker than your skin tone. Apply near temples, under cheekbones, around your nose and under your jawline. Highlight with a cream 2-3 shades lighter than your natural skin tone on your forehead, top of your jawline, in the middle of your chin and the forefront of your face. Highlight the bridge of your nose, forefront of your face and underneath your cheekbone and chin. Blend, blend, blend! Apply foundation that matches your skin tone all over.

Then using a lip liner that is closest to your lips’ natural color, line your bottom lip to accentuate it. “THANK YOU 2011 HALLOWEEN NOR’EASTER.
If it wasn’t for you we wouldn’t have met,” beam the grooms, whose natural charisma is telling of the love that was felt on their wedding day between family, friends and the newlyweds themselves. “A Halloween party was set for October 29th and neither of us was going to go to it,” explains Dan. “But because of the nor’easter, the party was rescheduled for the following week. We both ended up there, had instant chemistry and the rest is history.”
THE INSPIRATION However, it was the
history of The Pavilion on Crystal Lake in Middletown, Conn., that lit the fire for Dan

and Glen’s wedding vision. The waterfront property, surrounded by towering pines, hosts an old, rustic barn that was used to dry tobacco leaves in its former life. “The places we’d been looking at were geared toward a bride, and since we didn’t have a bride we wanted something more our style,” say the grooms. “We both smoke cigars so it seemed like a good sign.” The self-identified bears (an endearing term for burly gay men within the LGBT community) incorporated themselves into the theme along with their love of cigars. Plush teddy bears sat atop vintage cigar boxes, welcoming guests to their seats, and bear graphics were used throughout the event stationery.

THE CEREMONY The two grooms, dressed
in black Ralph Lauren tuxes, exchanged vows at the romantic pavilion setting flanked with yellow and white flower balls. Logan Byrnes, a local TV host who had done a news story on same-sex weddings, conducted the ceremony that was infused with fun and sweet tidbits about the couple. “It was great hearing our guests laugh—in the right places!—as well as enjoy hearing more of our story,” exclaims Dan. “Seeing the smile on Glen’s face and looking into his eyes as we were married was a special moment and I loved having all of our friends and family there celebrating with us. Seeing the smiles, hearing the laughter and feeling the love on our wedding day was amazing.”

THE PARTY They gifted their
groomsmen with rainbow-colored Ray-Bans, resulting in epic pride shots as the wedding party was introduced at the reception to “It’s Raining Men.” “Since they are all straight, we thought it was funny,” laughs Glen. Hilarity ensued throughout the night thanks to their hand-selected playlist, an RSVP Hall of Fame that showcased the Best Of from guests’ RSVP responses (funny sayings encouraged, of course) and honey “bears” as wedding favors. The day was a true reflection of the couple, but not without effort. “Leaving nothing to chance, we really worked hard to plan out every detail of our wedding because we wanted the day to run as smoothly as possible, which it did,” explains Dan. “From detailing exactly what music we wanted played to providing pictures of every centerpiece, we worked with our vendors to make sure they knew what we wanted.” “And how much we complemented each other as we planned the wedding,” adds Glen. “He took some of my ideas and added to them to make them better and I to his. Then seeing it all come together as we planned and go off without a hitch. But the most important part was sharing in the best day of my life with friends and family, and getting married to my best friend.”

A FUSION FOR FOREVER Dayna’s minimalist modern style and Allie’s affinity for the bohemian blended together to create a singular aesthetic that perfectly captured the essence of the two brides. By Brittny Drye Photography by Mikkel Paige
THE RAW, industrial space of 501
Union in Brooklyn created a blank canvas for Dayna and Allie to bring their personal styles into the scene. Their modern yet playful invitation suite, created by a graphic designer friend, set the scene for their traditional Jewish wedding filled with sentimental details followed by an epic dance party reception.
THE INSPIRATION Their wedding day
aesthetic mirrored their own styles in a fallcentric palette of eggplant, navy and gray with blush accents. Unexpected textural and green florals such as scabiosa, eucalyptus and ivy mingled effortlessly with traditional garden roses and ranunculus.
THE FASHION As with the design, the
two brides executed their own personal fashion that comfortably complemented the other. Allie selected a romantic Henry Roth dress boasting a sweetheart neckline and beaded embellishment around the waist. Meanwhile, Dayna glowed in a one-shoulder Jenny Yoo high-low hemline gown, anchored by a gold metal belt. They each carried softpetaled bouquets that were individually crafted for each woman—Allie’s saturated with warmer colors, wild and wispy around the edges; Dayna’s, more structured and monochromatic.
THE CEREMONY Two hundred guests
from several walks of their lives—college buddies, hometown friends and alumni from Camp Wayne in Pennsylvania where the two first met as kids—sat to witness Allie’s childhood rabbi marry them. “He knows my
family very well. In planning the wedding, he got to know Dayna very well too and that meant a lot to me,” says Allie. The brides decided to walk down the aisle to “Life Is Better With You” by Michael Franti, played by Allie’s musician brother, Mike. “That particular song was playing when we got engaged,” says Dayna. “We asked Mike to arrange an instrumental version of the song for us—we thought this would add a personal touch.” “Mike surprised us and did something totally unexpected. Using our chosen song as inspiration, he composed two original pieces of music,” exclaims Allie. “The tracks complemented each other perfectly and were intended to be played as a set—two unique variations on one cohesive theme. He explained that he wanted us to each feel special walking down the aisle, and they were composed in such a way that each track perfectly balanced out the other. Hearing that music during our wedding ceremony was so powerful to me—it felt very symbolic. Those songs were the most incredible gift.” Their four-post chuppah was built using dark bronze pipes nestled in tin pails. Soft chiffon fabric was draped to create the canopy and wrapped in dark green vines and jewel-toned blooms. “It was a beautiful mix of our styles,” note the brides. They exchanged rings lent to them by Dayna’s grandmother. “They belong to her and Dayna’s grandfather. Both of us were very close to him and he passed away a few

years ago. We used their wedding bands in honor of them both and in celebration of their love,” adds Allie. The brides then recessed, hand-in-hand, to a favorite Dave Mathews Band song.
THE PARTY In an effort to keep guests on
the dance floor (spoiler alert: it worked!), the couple opted for a cocktail-style reception. “All of our decisions—food, seating, floorplan, song choice, bar placement— were centered around our desire to create a true party vibe,” says Dayna. Passed hors d’oeuvres and food stations created by Real Food Catering featured a mix of comfort

foods, such as pigs-in-a-blanket and mini sliders, with more elaborate dishes like orecchiette with sausage, grilled filet with balsamic glaze and couscous with wheat berries, dried cranberries and fresh herbs. DJ Jon Blak from Scratch Weddings made the brides’ nonstop party dream come true with upbeat, relevant and energetic tracks. Guests only left the dance floor to enjoy the temporary tattoo booth, upon which they quickly returned, inked with skateboarding rainbows, typographic “love” and hearts.

ON TRACK TO EVER AFTER
Celebrating their wedding day at one of the most beautiful train stations in the country, Andre and Jordan relish in the romantic ride of a lifetime. By Shannen Hofheimer Photography by Janelle Rodriguez Photography
FOR JORDAN, a subtle yet significant
squeeze of the hand from Andre was all it took for their journey to be set in motion. At a fundraiser after-party, Andre and Jordan teamed up to play a game of darts. Despite their landslide of a loss at the game, they had actually gained something much more rewarding. Andre’s gesture spoke for itself, resulting in a first date two weeks later. With root beer and coffee in hand, they spent a magical evening together watching the Olympics, realizing that this was the beginning of a very different and special kind of victory. Holding their ceremony and dessert reception at Union Train Station in Utica, N.Y., the couple knew this would be the ideal place to begin the rest of their forever together. “The local train station is filled with historic character and charm. Everything about it matched what we wanted our day to be,” says Jordan.
THE INSPIRATION Exchanging vows
under the high-arched, chandeliered ceilings and dancing amidst robust marble pillars, Andre and Jordan knew that Utica’s local train station had proven to be everything they had hoped for. “We love the Art Deco time period and everything it encompasses. We wanted the day to be glamorous but comfortable, like a big Gatsby party: respectable and wildly fun.” Glimmers of gold and classic black could be found in every detail of the day, from the tall candelabras, vintage cameras boasting their wedding hashtag, an antique
typewriter and golden flecks in the floral design. Andre and Jordan happily collaborated together to infuse their celebration with their own tastes and creative flair. “We brought antiques we already owned and supplemented with a ton of black and gold décor we bought on clearance right after Christmas.” The artsy couple designed a family crest that graced their stationery, created their own rehearsal dinner menu complete with a history of the venue and made placemats which included a custom word search and a seating chart. Jordan and one of her bridesmaids designed all of the boutonnieres and bouquets the morning of the wedding, efficiently working together as a team to get them all completed in less than two hours. “We purchased the flowers through a local supermarket and had every flower present in our wedding that we had ever dreamed of: an all-white palette of hydrangeas, lots of baby’s breath, full roses and gerber daisies with black centers. We had so much fun doing them together!”
THE FASHION On her birthday, Jordan
received the ultimate present ... the purchase of a timeless, classic Badgley Mischka lace dress that would transform her into a beautiful, blushing bride on her wedding day. Andre looked dashing in his black-on-black suited ensemble from Ralph Lauren, while the groomsmen sported classic black suits and ties over white shirts. The bridesmaids were at liberty to

select their own dresses while still incorporating the black and gold color scheme.
THE CEREMONY The infusion
of Andre and Jordan’s values and personalities into their wedding did not stop at the decor. The couple threw conventionality to the wind by having Jordan’s grandmother as her flower girl and Andre’s grandfather as his ring bearer. In their vows they wrote to one another, Jordan reminisced about the night that Andre first squeezed her hand, leaving a mark on her heart that has continued to grow since that day. “After today, you will completely own my heart. You will consume it, and I will have your heart in my heart.” Andre went on to explain to Jordan how they would incorporate his two favorite words into their lives each day, repeating the mantra: “My two favorite words are ‘together’ and ‘forever,’ and this is what we will be.”
THE PARTY The couple shared
their first dance to a custom love song entitled “Slow Dance,” written for them as a wedding gift from a dear friend. Jordan swayed with her father to “Rain King” by Counting Crows, a band whose lyrics Jordan learned before she could talk.

For anyone who has not just one sweet tooth, but multiple, Andre and Jordan’s all-dessert wedding is a sugar-lover’s dream come true. “Our moms are both incredible bakers, so they made most of the desserts! Because of the venue layout, a sit-down dinner would have placed our guests in two different rooms. Being able to spend time with each guest was really important to us, and we also wanted everyone to have a great time dancing the whole night!” Although the reception was adorned with delightful baked goods, a traditional cake-cutting ceremony was not in the cards for this eccentric, artistic couple. “Jordan’s parents share a glass of milk at dinner each night. They told us we had to wait until we were married to share a glass of milk, so instead of the cutting of the cake, we had a toast with one glass and two straws, sharing our first glass of milk and symbolizing our union.”

Even though the bride’s and groom’s mothers probably put everyone else’s kitchen skills to shame, the couple’s guests signed a cookbook in which they shared their “ingredients for a healthy marriage” and their “recipes for a great date night.” In exchange, guests got to take home a “taste

of family flavor.� Jordan designed cards containing recipes from both moms, and until guests could take their own crack at concocting a delectable dish, they were able to take home desserts to hold them over. A cookie jar decorated with the family crest served as a card box for the newlyweds, which now acts as a coin jar for their honeymoon savings. Next summer in Brazil, the couple will volunteer at the 2016 Olympics, paying homage to their very first date and relaxing as they celebrate winning the only thing better than an Olympic gold medal: each other.

DAZZLING BLUE waters offsetting the
jagged cliffs of Capri, brightly lit sunflower fields in Siena and the ruins of ancient Rome—is there any place in the world more romantic than Italy? Sweethearts Justin and Megan certainly don’t seem to think so as the two share a love of Italian culture, art and, most importantly, each other. On a study abroad program in college, they visited Florence with their alma mater and immediately fell in love with the enchantment of the countryside. The only thing that could possibly be sweeter than vacationing in Italy is marrying your beloved there. And so, their love story follows in true
storybook fashion: amidst rolling hills and sapphire skies, Justin and Megan said “I do” in the Tuscan countryside.
THE INSPIRATION Being an introverted
couple with an outgoing family, Megan and Justin knew they would have to find a way to combine the two sides in order to dream up the perfect fête. The trip of a lifetime for the extroverts became a charmingly intimate getaway for the soonlyweds and a destination wedding was settled. “Italy was a complicated choice because it is so far away, but the more we thought about it, the more the complications seemed worthwhile,” explains Megan. a love of art, you’ll find yourself deep in the heart of the Italian Renaissance. Fittingly, their planning led them to Siena where they exchanged traditional vows in a breathtakingly rustic church constructed from simple stone and boasting high-beamed ceilings.
THE FASHION The bride, a longtime
admirer of Grace Kelly, channeled the iconic princess in her day-of accoutrements. Vintage glamour radiated in waves as she stepped out in a ball gown not unlike the frock worn by the starlet the day she became Princess of Monaco. With a classic bateau neckline and empire waist, the dress could have been ripped from the pages of a 1950s high-society wedding. “I am a life-long Grace Kelly admirer and used her gentle and elegant example as an inspiration for the

details,” the stylish bride adds. Donning a simple yet sophisticated chignon to let the gown speak for itself, Megan rounded out her outfit with a pair of modern Jimmy Choo pumps.
THE PARTY After the Catholic ceremony,
the couple and their guests made their way to a 16th-century country home-turnedluxury hotel called Tenuta San Pietro, tucked away in the Lucca hills. Decor was kept minimal, allowing panoramic views of the breathtaking landscape to paint the atmosphere. They worked with the talented Tuscania Events team from afar to bring their classic yet simple vision to life. “Viviana was easy to talk to, full of ideas but not in the least bit controlling, and she was warm and kind
from the very start. Most of all, I trusted her taste. I studied art in college, specifically design, and I am not the easiest person to satisfy when it comes to the way things look,” admits Megan. “She impressed me time after time with the people she suggested for us— photographers, videographers, the band, hair and makeup, florist, the food—they were all of the highest caliber and easy to work with.” The classic saying may reference Rome, but true foodies know that when in Tuscany, you eat. Guests found themselves in a surreal environment, toasting underneath the Tuscan stars as they enjoyed an authentic Italian meal. For the cake, Megan and Justin cut into a traditional millefoglie, which is a delicate and airy confection comprised of flaky puff pastry and sweet cream. In keeping with tradition, guests were sent home with souvenirs of their time spent in wine country—homemade olive oil that undoubtedly beats anything you’d find in the store. You would find no DJ or MC on this dance floor, as the couple’s traditional values shined in their music selection. A classic wedding deserves live music and with the guidance of their event planner, they booked the energetic quartet The Di Maggio Connection that played everything from Elvis to rockabilly and kept guests dancing the night away. ARMED WITH A BACKGROUND IN DESIGN, James was
able to visualize a scene in the open space that beautifully reflected his and Andy’s three-year relationship. With a little help from their loved ones, from best friends to James’s grandmother, contemporary pendants were hung, favors were made and tables were topped with twinkling jars. And the result wasn’t merely decorative, as it proved to James and Andy that their love was supported and should be celebrated.
THE VENUE The MonOrchid, located
in downtown Phoenix’s artsy Roosevelt Row, impressed the grooms not only for its masculine touches, such as corrugated metal, industrial sliding doors and concrete

flooring, but for its versatility. “There were no limitations on vendors that we could bring in, giving us the flexibility to make the wedding our own,” notes James, who remodels and flips homes for a living and was able to put his professional creativity to use.
THE CEREMONY Upon entering the
ceremony space, guests were invited to grab a cocktail, immediately setting the social atmosphere. Andy’s niece paved the way as the flower girl followed by the grooms accompanied by their mothers to Katy Perry’s “Unconditionally.” “Standing in the back as the ceremony began, I started crying,” says Andy. “I didn’t expect to be able to get married to the love of my life in

Arizona. It was the moment it all felt real and it was amazing!” Blue uplighting cast an iridescent glow against the metal gate backdrop while 200 glass orbs dangled from the barrel-vaulted ceiling. Their sisters stood beside them as the grooms’ friends guided them through their vow exchange. “It was very important to us to have someone special officiating our wedding to make the event personal to us. Our best friends came up with a ceremony that was personal, funny and efficient,” says James. “Both Lisa and Tom were able to bring in elements of who we each are, including the promise of fluffing the decorative pillows and sharing the last piece of cake.”
THE PARTY To make room for dinner and
dancing, the floor-to-ceiling gates were opened and the space was transformed. Metallic trees decorated with small orbs and flanked with mercury glass jars rose from the 10 circular tables sprinkled around the room. Old wood pallets spray-painted in blue informed guests of the wedding hashtag while they picked up their table numbers on Champagne flutes. Each place setting graced a Jonathan Adler dove ornament and fortune cookie, a nod to James’s love of the treats as well as their fortune cookieproposal. Wanting to offer their guests an out-of-thebox dining experience, Andy and James refused to settle on catering, searching

for a vendor who could deliver. “We struggled—literally until the week before the wedding—to find a caterer and concept that we really loved,” explains James. “A new restaurant was in the process of going into the MonOrchid building and Kyu, one of the owners, jumped on board with our idea of having specific dishes from our favorite local restaurants. This was our original plan but sounded like a logistical nightmare to us. However, Kyu took to getting quotes from each of our favorite restaurants for specific items. At the end of the day, we were able to have our personalized menus of our favorite food!”
our day and help make it happen. It wasn’t about two men getting married, it was about celebrating two people who fell in love. Everybody contributed to making our vision a reality. Our friends helped hang almost 200 glass orbs from the metal gates while others catered to my ‘crazy’ and helped set up the space. My grandmother tied bows on all of the wedding favors for our guests. Our sisters coordinated their outfits. Our best friends married us. And our families welcomed each other,” says James.
The meal that guests continue to rave about included bruschetta from an neighborhood wine bar, turkey-cranberry sandwiches inspired by the restaurant they had their first date at, orange chicken from Panda Express (“Okay, not exactly a local restaurant but a favorite of James,” Andy laughingly admits), pretzel bites from a local gastropub and more. The hodgepodge of favorites were served family style, creating an intimate meal that was reflective of the couple’s tastebuds.

AN IMPULSIVE TRIP to Paris
turned out to be the best decision Jessica and Kristin ever made. After dating for only a few short weeks, the new couple jetset to the capital of romance … and fell in love. While their relationship blossomed on spontaneity, their wedding was incredibly detail-oriented. From custom branding that was spotted on every piece of stationery to Marilyn Monroe impersonators, their wedding weekend in Palm Springs was filled inspiration from the retro oasis and each other.
THE INSPIRATION Stemming from
Southern roots, Jessica was inspired by her favorite movie, “Steel Magnolias” for their wedding colors which, as any fan would know, is “blush and bashful.” “Which, for us meant different shades of pink along with gold,” Jessica notes. “Any Southern traditions or ideas I could bring into the wedding was a plus.” The theme played throughout the weekend in custom stationery, florals made up of dramatic king protea, blush garden roses and hot pink ranunculus, and tables draped in blush cut overlays. The party began the moment their guests arrived to their hotel rooms, in which they were welcomed with customized canvas bags stuffed with weekend necessities for braving Palm Springs (in the brides’ pink palette, natch): pink cans of Champagne, pink playing cards, snacks and flamingo pool Koozies. “We wanted our guests to know that every detail had been thought
of, and that at no point were they going to see some thing that hadn’t been picked especially for us,” Jessica explains. “Having a destination wedding in such a fun place put everyone in the mood to party from the very beginning. From there, we just tried to put little parts of our personalities in every event of the weekend.”
THE VENUE The Parker Palm Springs is
where Versailles meets Las Vegas with a touch of quirk thrown in for good measure. The palatial grounds are covered in lush greenery and eccentric, colorful Jonathan Adler decor, and oversized chessboards, hidden bocce courts and crackling fire pits encouraged guests to explore and play throughout the wedding weekend. “We started out with a pool party Friday, followed by the rehearsal dinner. Saturday was our wedding day, but it really felt like a party all day. People kept popping in to the Gene Autry Residence—which is part of the hotel—while we got ready. By the time the ceremony came, we were already in party mode,” exclaims Jessica.

Romona Keveza gown was defined by the designer’s signature lace and she added touches of glimmer with a romantic rose gold headpiece and sparkling Jimmy Choo shoes. Kristin opted for a custom white jacquard suit with pink detailing to tie into their color scheme and completed the look with pink Gucci shoes.

With tales of the Paris trip that started it all to quotes from the hotel’s legendary guest Gene Autry, the ceremony was a beautiful fusion of past and present. Their processional included love songs such as Etta James’s “At Last” but it was the recessional that kicked off the celebration. “I was born in Louisiana and have always loved the idea of a second line,” says Jessica. “We hired a wonderful band called the California Feet Warmers to surprise our guests

immediately after our ceremony and parade us through the resort and to the cocktail hour. Every guest had vintage handkerchiefs at their seats so that they could wave their hankies as we paraded along.”
THE PARTY After the energetic cocktail
hour, the second line led them to the reception lawn where Rat Pack tunes drifted through the Palm Springs air and movie classics starring the era’s Hollywood vixens were projected in the background. After a delicious meal, the brides and their guests hit the dance floor, beginning with “La Vie En Rose,” sung by Jessica’s sister, for their first dance. At midnight, the newlyweds

Start your day with a medialunas—a croissant with dulce de leche topping—a simple, tasty and popular Buenos Aires breakfast item that can be found at almost any cafe. Then, get lost in the hauntingly beautiful Recoleta Cemetery filled with intricate architecture spanning from Art Deco to Gothic. Be sure to seek out Evita’s grave among the high society sarcophagi! For dinner, pick one of the many parillas (steakhouses) to indulge in your carnivorous cravings or delight in a traditional tango-and-dinner show. If you’re on the hunt for a more unique experience, be sure to check out Buenos Aires’ underground supper club scene—a dinner party with strangers—where art galleries can turn into pop-up restaurants and chefs open the door to their own apartments’ dining rooms. Casa ShaltShaker, Paladar and Casa Felix are well-known puertas cerradas but social networking sites like CookApp and Eat With Me can lead you to more off-the-beaten-path experiences. Be sure to take a quick nap, as nightlife doesn’t begin until 2 a.m.! If you’re able to rally, impress locals by ordering a Fernet and Coke, the unofficial cocktail for the locals.

The next day, stroll through the colorful La Boca neighborhood, which is also the home of the famous La Bombonera football stadium, or shop in the trendy Palermo district and retreat for a picnic lunch in one of the area’s charming parks. For a dose of culture, Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes (National Museum of Fine Arts), Casa Rosada (The Pink House—home of the President of Argentina) and Teatro Colón (the main opera house) are not to be missed.

SALTA By Mark Johanson Take the spirit of the Wild West, the grandeur of the Grand Canyon and the luxuriance of Napa Valley, mix it all together, and you can begin to imagine the allure of Salta. Located in Argentina’s northwestern corner, this Andean beauty is known as much for its multicolored mountainscapes as its frozen-in-time adobe villages. Sprinkled across it all are the highest altitude vineyards in the world. If you’re the kind of couple who likes your wine paired with a side of adventure, then the Salteño city of Cafayate should fit the bill. Cafayate is not only Argentina’s second wine center after Mendoza, but also a scenic tour de force of dramatic pre-Andean peaks, romantic hilltop estancias and seductive plazas lined with cafes. Malbec may be the king of Mendoza, but Torrontes is the queen of the cold and windswept Calchaquies Valley, in which Cafayate sits. This lesser-known white
wine grape has a deceptively floral nose that belies its dry finish. See for yourself as you and your partner swirl a glass on a tour of Bodega Domingo Molina. Then, take a taxi to the breezy hilltop restaurant at Piattelli Vineyards for a juicy steak lunch with gobsmacking views over the valley below. Tip: make sure to ask for the steak jugoso (medium rare) or punto (medium); otherwise it will be burnt to a crisp! Back in town, Cafayate has a number of bodegas (wineries) within walking distance of each other. Sample standout varietals like Tannat before snagging your favorite bottle and heading to the grocer for fresh-baked bread, goat cheese, llama sausage and jam made from cayote, a local fruit similar to a pumpkin. These are the ingredients you’ll need for a romantic picnic under the desert sky. Walk out of town in any direction and cozy up as the sun sets behind the distant canyon walls, painting them ochre, amber and indigo before the night fades into a sea of stars. Sprawling across the border of Argentina and Brazil exists one of the world’s most magnetic scenes. Two hundred and seventy-five waterfalls make up the powerful Iguazu Falls which can be found in the Iguazu National Park. Hike through the lush rainforest where you’ll explore tropical flora and fauna as you navigate toward the main event. Be sure to walk both the upper and lower circuits, which offer different experiences and vantage points. If you’re feeling extra daring, take a boat ride to get up close and personal with Garganta del Diablo (Devil’s Throat), a horseshoe-shaped chasm from which half of the river’s flow falls (be sure to bring extra clothes—you will get wet!).
KNOW BEFORE YOU GO If you go to the Brazilian side of the Iguazu Falls, you will need your passport and you must apply for a Brazilian visa before traveling. In order to get the most out of your visit to Iguazu Falls, hire a tour guide who can share hidden gems about the rainforest as well as off-the-beaten path views of the falls. We recommend Say Hueque Argentina Adventures. If you go to the falls two days in a row, get a stamp on your ticket at the end of the day to receive half-price on the next day’s entrance fee.
After an adventure-filled day, head into downtown Puerto Iguazu. The gateway town to the Mother Nature spectacular comes to life at night as the town center bustles with live music, tourists and al fresco dining. Before dinner, stroll through the feria (food market) and grab a bottle of wine and a simple plate of olives, charcuterie and cheese at a stall for next-to-nothing prices. For a romantic meal, the restaurant inside the Del a Fonte boutique hotel boasts a creative menu of freshly made Italian dishes in an enchanting atmosphere. If it’s a true Argentine experience that you’re after, El Quincho del Tío Querido offers live music nightly and tango shows on Thursdays and Saturdays and serves up traditional cuisine that is a meat lover’s dream.

Labeled as the father of the same-sex marriage movement, Evan Wolfson is the founder and president of Freedom to Marry, a campaign that spearheaded the fight for equality nationwide. In 1983, Evan wrote his Harvard Law School thesis on gay people and the freedom to marry. During the 1990s he served as co-counsel in the historic Hawaii marriage case that launched our modern day civil rights movement and founded Freedom to Marry in 2003.
Windsor was the lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court of the United States case, United States v. Windsor, which successfully overturned Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act and was considered a significant legal victory for the same-sex marriage movement in the United States.
President Barack Obama was the first sitting president in the United States to publicly announce support for same-sex marriage on May 9, 2012. A year before, his administration had refused to defend DOMA and put an end to “Don’t Ask, Don't Tell,” the United States policy that prohibited out LGBT individuals from joining the military.
Mehlman can be credited to leading the advocacy for equality amongst Republican politicians. He worked to rally conservative GOPs to repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell as well as sign amicus briefs in 2013 and 2015 (133 and more than 300 signees, respectively) to show support for marriage equality during critical Supreme Court cases.

Bonauto is an American lawyer who has been deeply involved with some of the country’s most crucial cases involving the right to marry in Maine and Massachusetts as well as leading the first strategic challenges against DOMA. On April 28, 2015 Bonauto was one of three attorneys who argued before the U.S. Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges arguing state bans on same-sex marriage to be unconstitutional, which led to a victory for marriage equality nationwide.
Chad Griffin is the President of Human Rights Campaign (HRC). After Prop 8, Griffin helped found the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), which led the legal campaign to re-legalize marriage in Califronia. In 2012, he left AFER for the HRC.
Obergefell was the lead plaintiff for the Supreme Court case that led to marriage equality nationwide. In 2013, Obergefell’s partner of 20 years, John, was in hospice care in Cincinnati. After flying via medical charter to Baltimore to legally wed, they found out that when John passed, his death certificate would state unmarried because Ohio did not recognize their union. They filed a suit against the state of Ohio that ended up in the Supreme Court alongside cases from Tennessee, Kentucky and Michigan.
