THE EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY STARTS IN JUNIOR SCHOOL Junior School at LCC

LOWER CANADA COLLEGE
LCC’s Junior School is a nurturing environment where ideas, inspiration and stimulation abound. The first years of a child’s education are critical in establishing a love for learning and ensuring future success as a student. From kindergarten through grade 6, boys and girls are immersed in a bilingual academic program that allows them to explore their creativity, cultivate their imaginations and discover their potential. The focus is on building the foundations for lifelong learning through the ongoing development of critical thinking, communication, social and self-management skills. Reading comprehension, writing structure and fostering creativity are priorities, as are the development of basic mathematical concepts and their application to real-life situational problems. We also understand that students are unique with varied learning styles and we cater to those differences with a variety of teaching approaches. Using research-based educational practices, the LEAD Centre (Learning Enrichment and Development) supports the diverse learners in LCC’s community in order to facilitate academic success.

A WARM, SAFE & WELCOMING ENVIRONMENT At the very heart of LCC’s philosophy is the creation of an atmosphere in which each child can thrive. Since children of different age groups have their own abilities and needs, LCC is divided into four distinct divisions—Junior School, Middle School, Senior School & Pre-University—each with its own physical space, small class sizes, and designed to ensure the academic, social, emotional and physical development of the students.

A COMMUNITY OF LEADERS & LEARNERS Supported and guided by a dedicated team of exceptional teachers — who also act as coaches and mentors — children in the elementary grades develop the confidence that will help them reach their full potential. Junior School students form bonds with their teachers and peers while learning the values of respect, trust and responsibility that are such a critical part of the LCC experience. Our teachers are committed to continuous improvement and pursue professional development activities to enhance their teaching skills and acquire new knowledge. 8
