Homeschool Programs

Parents, do you have a specific program you would like your child to learn? Give us a day, time and two guaranteed participants, and we will set up a program just for you! Our programs include biology, life science, nature, environmental education, math, arts and crafts, and physical education. Home school students ages 6-17 can enroll in a variety of customized park district programs. Just let us know your age group, pick a program, day, time and find us a minimum of two guaranteed participants, roughly the same age (may need a minimum of 4-6 for sports). Fees are specific to programs offered: $5 per person for sports, $7-$10 per person for school programs, and $20-$30 per person for arts and crafts programs. Naturalist in your Classroom

Teachers don’t miss this unique learning opportunity for your students! Earth Stewards is available all school year long to visit your classroom and teach environmental science for your students. These one-hour or longer programs are currently aligned with the Core and Next Generation Standards and can be customized to fit your curriculum needs. The fee is $3 per student. Outdoor Education

Calling all Teachers! Check out our new nature programs being held out of the Quarry Building located in Bird Park. These programs align with the CORE and Next Generation Standards. We can design a program around your needs. The fee is $3 per student and programs run any time between 9:30 am to 3:00 pm. Give us a call at 815-929-1885 or at 815-735-3711 for more information.

For the Scouts

Troops do you need help getting your badges? We can help! Give us a minimum of 4 troops, what you would like to learn and we can design a program for you. Fees will vary depending on the type of activity desired. Give us a call at 815-929-1885 or at 815-735-3711 for more information.

Environmental Club

Join the Earth Steward and Kankakee Valley Park District Environmental Club as we go around beautifying local parks, learn more about our natural environment and help clean up the sections of the Kankakee River. Give us a call at 815-929-1885 or at 815-735-3711 for more information.

Snappin’ Sasquatch:

Become a photo naturalist in your own town. Snap a cool photo of some local flora and/or fauna at your house, in your neighborhood or at your local park. Anything from foxes, raccoons, squirrels, cardinals, to common plants or the rare Kankakee Mallow flower. Whatever catches your eye, take a picture of it and send it to The Kankakee Valley Park District, Attn: Todd Poole 893 W. Station Street Kankakee, IL 60901 or email tpoole@kvpd.com. Please let us know your name, what it is and where you found it. With your permission, pictures will be displayed at the RecCenter and/or online.
