Mission
The Kankakee Valley Park District exists to acquire, develop, and maintain parks, promote the conservation of natural and historical resources, and provide recreational facilities, programs and services for the benefit of all District residents. The ability to accomplish our mission is made possible through the dedicated efforts of commissioners and staff, the generosity of area residents, a combination of tax dollars, fees, private donations and grants, and by working cooperatively with other governmental and private entities.

Lost and Found
Items left at Park District programs or events will be kept at the Park District Administrative Office. Items can be retrieved during regular business hours. Items will be kept for 30 days and then donated.
Gift Cards
Give a gift of recreation! Gift cards are good for any Park District program, including bus trips and sports leagues. Gift cards may be purchased at our Administrative Office located at 893 W. Station St., Kankakee or at the RecCenter located at 150 N. Indiana Ave., Kankakee.

Park District Board Meetings
Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Bird Park Meeting Room located at 893 W. Station St., Kankakee. Residents are invited to attend to make suggestions or comments to help us improve the programs and facilities we offer.
Kankakee Valley Park Foundation
The Kankakee Valley Park Foundation is organized and operated exclusively for educational, civic and charitable purposes. The Foundation’s mission is to improve the quality of life in the Kankakee area by assisting in the preservation of open space and enhancing recreation facilities and programs in Kankakee for people of all ages to enjoy.

Program/Class Deadlines
Please try to register early for classes to ensure the success of a program. For most programs, a decision will be made 3 days before a class is scheduled to begin. Registering at the last minute may mean that the program has already been cancelled. If you miss a deadline, please call (815) 939-1311 to see if there has been an extension.
Dog Owners
We ask that you follow park and city ordinances. Please keep your pets on a leash at all times and clean up after them. For information on River Run Dog Park see page 27. Thank you for your cooperation.
Grills in our Parks
Groups are allowed to bring grills out to any Park District park. If you bring a charcoal grill, we ask that you take the used charcoal with you and dispose of it on your own. Please do not leave it on the ground or place it any garbage can on site.

A $50 service charge will be assessed on all checks returned due to insufficient funds. 1. Full refunds will be issued for any program canceled by the Park District. 2. Filling out a refund request does not guarantee a refund. 3. Participants may request refunds for programs up to three business days before the program’s first meeting. In athletic programs and leagues, the program is considered to begin with its first practice. 4. Refunds will be issued via check 7-21 business days once approved. 5. Refunds for trips and contractual programs will only be issued if the spot can be filled from the waiting list. A full refund policy can be found on our website at www.kvpd.com The KVPD facilities and programs are offered on a non-discriminatory basis.

Severe Weather Policy
Programs and Splash Valley Aquatic Park may be cancelled due to severe weather. Decisions about canceling an event will be made at least one hour before the scheduled start time. If an activity is interrupted by severe weather, a supervisor will stay with the participants until the weather has passed, or the participants have been picked up by a parent/guardian. Each facility and event has a weather line that can be reached by calling (815) 939-1311, and following the automated attendant instructions.

Please be aware while visiting parks or attending Park District programs, pictures of you and your family may be taken and used for publicity purposes without notification or compensation.
Get Your Picture I.D. at the New RecCenter. . .
Whether you need a Dog Park pass or a Splash Valley pass, you now get them at the new RecCenter located at 150 N. Indiana Ave., Kankakee, IL 60901. The number there is 815.929.1885 and they will get you set up. Once Splash Valley opens you may also get your Splash passes there. If you have your Season Pass from last year, you can simply renew it at any office, no need for us to print a new card.

Message from the KVPD With the snow and cold behind us, it’s time to look forward to fun in the sun. There is plenty of outdoor fun to be had this summer at all our parks and facilities. The KVPD Board of Commissioners and Staff invite you to enjoy our six miles of river front property that is home to 11 of our 34 parks. Although Splash Valley will be closed this year for some much needed maintenance, there is still plenty to at River Road Park. From June to August, Ice Valley Ice Arena will become a roller rink featuring Friday night skating for all ages. Bring your own skates. You can skate from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. for just $4. In June and July, Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. will be family drop-in hockey at the arena. This all-age’s fun cost just $8 for 17 and under and $10 for 18 and up. River Road Campground opens Memorial Day weekend until October 16. Our campground has 14 RV sites and 13 Nature(tent) sites and includes a camp store and a full time onsite host. A newly added feature includes a nature walk through the wilderness that runs from the campground to the Kankakee River. The campground is a few hundred feet from the Centrue Softball Complex, the Kankakee River and dog park. Don’t forget to sign up for our Summer Camp from July through August 5. Each day your child will explore, learn, create, and most of all have fun! If weather permits, we will spend a majority of our day outside, playing games and utilizing our playgrounds. Every day will be a new adventure, providing new art projects, science exploration, baking, and so much more! Make sure to sign up early, so you can receive an early bird discount upon registration. Each day, your child will need to bring a sack lunch. We will be taking a field trip every Friday. This means that your child will need to wear their KVPD Summer Fun camp shirt.
Building and Pavilion Rentals The Kankakee Valley Park District has buildings and pavilions for rent. Our facilities can accommodate groups of any size; whether you are hosting a birthday party, family gathering, class reunion, wedding reception, bridal/baby shower, or school function, we have the perfect place for you. Call 815.929.1885 for availability of your date or to tour a facility. All buildings and pavilions are located in Kankakee and Aroma Park.
Boat Slip Rentals at Beckman Boat Harbor Registration for new renters opens May 1st!
Enjoy the beautiful, scenic Kankakee River without the hassle of moving your boat around all summer. Kankakee’s spacious Beckman Boat Harbor can accommodate boats up to 26 feet long. Each slip rental includes two parking passes (exclusively for the slip renter). The harbor is fenced-in and each renter receives their very own key to the locked gate. Proof of boat registration and insurance is required at time of rental. Space is limited, so hurry in today! Residency is determined by boat registration. Registration: begins April 1 for 2016 Boat Slip Renters; begins May 1 for new renters. Fee: 20 ft or less $425 (Resident) $525 (Non Resident) 21 to 26 ft $450 (Resident) $550 (Non Resident)

Four Winds Casino
Join the KVPD as we travel to Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Michigan. Starved Rock: Canal Boat and Trolley Tour
To begin the adventure, participants are provided with a delicious hot lunch at Starved Rock Lodge! After the meal, you will board one of the Starved Rock trolleys for a ride through historic downtown Utica and a stop at Cattails where you can do some shopping. The trolley then takes you on a relaxing ride to LaSalle where you will board the canal boat. Step back into time with period-dressed interpreters on this one hour, mule-pulled canal boat ride. After the boat ride, you travel to the Starved Rock State Park Visitor Center. There is minimal walking on this tour. The registration deadline for this tour is Monday, July 4th.

Fox Valley Winery
The Fox Valley Winery will provide you with a fun and educational tour by one of the owners or wine makers. We will see the tank and barrel room, bottling line, and discuss their vineyard they have. After the tour, each guest gets to enjoy five complimentary wine tastings of their choice. Before we arrive at the winery, we will be stopping for an early lunch at Oswego Family Restaurant. Light Opera Works Presents My Fair Lady
Come join us for a fun filled evening as The Light Opera Works presents the production of My Fair Lady. The show takes place at the Cahn Auditorium in Evanston, Illinois. The musical features songs like “I could of danced all night” and “Get me to the church on time”. The show lasts approximately 3 hours. Seniors Tai Chi In-a-Chair
Developed with the input and guidance of medical specialists, yoga teachers and Tai Chi teachers, this therapeutic routine features gentle stretching, moderate movement, and healthful breathing. The techniques are designed to improve stamina, balance, and flexibility. Most of the routine is performed while seated, and if possible, a simple Tai Chi Form is taught standing. Appropriate for all ages and abilities, the form has been featured internationally, presented at national and regional wellness events, and is recommended by many doctors and physical therapists. This 3 week class is design to teach children the fundamentals of T-Ball and Soccer in a fun and positive environment. There will be 3 classes devoted to T-Ball skills and 3 classes will be devoted to Soccer skills. Bitty Batters will practice base running, hitting, catching, throwing, and will learn the overall concept of how the game is played (child must bring his/her own glove.) Little Chicago Dough Chefs
Our objective is to pass on some “tricks of the trade” we’ve learned over the last 40 years to our little chefs. Our main focus will be on teaching the art of pizza making- from making dough to customizing their own pizza, our future chefs will have fun while obtaining some skills that will last a lifetime. We also stress the importance of sanitation and good housekeeping, maintaining a sage work environment and what we look for when hiring – a mock interview will be given. Included is lunch, where each child will enjoy the fruits of their labor and a soft drink. Each “graduate” will also receive a guest card for a free buffet! The Kankakee Valley Park District Campground offers 14 RV sites, to accommodate any size RV, and 13 sites for tent camping with a common dump station and water area. All RV sites have a 30-amp electric hookup, picnic table, and fire ring with grill, and are handicap accessible. Maximum two vehicles per site are allowed in the campground. RVs are allowed one RV and one additional vehicle. A new wilderness walking path has been added to allow campers to walk from the campground through the wilderness to the Kankakee River.

The Kankakee Valley Park District is proud to offer a two acre dog park for owners and their dogs to enjoy. River Run Dog Park is a secure, fenced-in area where dogs can be unleashed to run freely.
Applicants may register up to three dogs. Permits are valid for one year from the date of purchase. Owners must bring record of vaccinations and rabies shots when registering.
Dog Park Usage
Once a dog park permit is purchased, members can use the dog park year-round during park hours. The dog park may periodically be closed for restoration, mowing, maintenance, or due to weather conditions.

This event brings the fascinating history of Kankakee County to life. Participants who visit Mound Grove Cemetery will get a guided oral history lesson as they are led to final resting places of former residents, portrayed by actors in period costume. After a trip back in time, visitors will hopefully leave with a better understanding and appreciation of Kankakee County’s rich heritage left by some of its most storied residents. 22 Ice Valley Centre Ice Arena is the home of the Kankakee Novas Women’s Hockey Team, Kankakee Coyotes Youth Hockey Club, Kankakee Irish High School Hockey Club. Ice Valley is a family fun zone as well as a competitive ice arena. It has several features to offer including a NHL- size rink, arcade, Breakaway Café concessions, and four private party/meeting rooms. The arena offers programming for advanced and beginning skaters alike, including: learn to skate, figure skating, introduction to hockey, drop-in-hockey, and freestyle ice sessions. The arena hosts several tournaments and special events throughout the year, these include: birthday parties, field trips, high school hockey, college hockey, an annual ice show, and much more! Friday Night Roller Skate This event is open to the public for patrons of all ages! Roller night features the sounds of the newest Top 40 music in a club like atmosphere. Children ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult ages 16 and up. Participants must bring their own skates!

Family Drop-In Roller Hockey Dust of those roller blades and come play some roller hockey. Drop-in will be limited to a maximum of 30 skaters and four goalies, no exceptions. Player are encouraged to have full equipment, however a helmet is required. Players must sign a waiver to be eligible to participate. Participants must bring their own skates!

offers a variety of activities for the whole family. The park is located on the pristine shores of the Kankakee River and boasts a historic quarry that is filled with opportunities to view wildlife in their natural environment. Guests may enjoy the picnic pavilions, playground jungle, scenic river-walk path, and Splash Pad.

26 adult sports leagues Fall Sofball Leagues Teams will play double-headers one night per week for 6 weeks and will end the season with a double elimination tournament. League will start at the end of August! Mandatory rainouts for the Men’s league will be made up on Mondays and rainouts for the Coed league will be made up on Tuesdays.
