WITH FUELED EXCITEMENT FROM OUR TRIUMPHANT RETURN TO THE ORPHEUM,
the LPO is about to embark on a fantastic musical voyage. The 26th season features a rich variety of music from our past and present, from the music of Johann Sebastian Bach’s 18th century Germany to an exciting world premiere by Yotam Haber set in the water-filled world of Louisiana.
Voyage
Fantastic
Composers often travel and many of their compositions are like the postcards we send from our travels. We will see postcards from Paris (George Gershwin’s An American in Paris), Scotland (Felix Mendelssohn’s “Scottish” Symphony), the Middle East (Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 5, “Egyptian”), and even America (Antonín Dvorák’s New World Symphony). ˇ However, not all of our pieces are postcards. Due to the ability of composers to imagine faraway places that they could not visit, this season will take us from New Orleans to Neptune (with Gustav Holst’s The Planets). In addition, we will explore a variety of different genres, from everyone’s favorite fantastic cinematic voyager, E.T., to The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. We begin the season with a different sort of trip, in the form of Hector Berlioz’s opium-inspired Symphonie Fantastique. I hope you will join us for what is sure to be a fantastic season!
