What/Who influenced and inspired you to coach baseball?
What is your favorite movie and why? My students would
My high school baseball and American Legion coaches were big role models who inspired me to want to coach baseball. The game of baseball is so intriguing to me. It is a constant battle against giving into failure and also constant adversity. It allows kids to learn skills other than just playing ball at a high level.

Who is your favorite major Did you do anything special to league manager? Former Braves celebrate these achievements? manager Bobby Cox Did not do anything special for this but I do want to give the assistant coaches- Guy Brown, Andy Echlin, Cody Perrin- a quick shout out for all of the hard work they put in this year. Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know?
I have been a New Orleans Saints fan for 20 years and I almost cried when they won the Super Bowl in 2010. If anyone has followed the history of the Saints they know how they have been in the past.

COACHES CORNER Barry McCaskill
5A Central Boys Soccer Coach of the Year Selected as a 2013 All-Star Coach for Soccer What do you coach and teach and how long have you been at LRCA? I have been at LRCA for 3 years. Have coached boys soccer and taught Conceptual Physics, AP Physics, and Chemistry.
What do you most enjoying about coaching/teaching here? Be able to connect with students in the classroom as well as on the field.
CONGRATULATIONS to your team on being state champs! What was so special about this team that enabled them to achieve this success?
We had a great group of seniors that led our team throughout the year. They did a great job unifying the entire team by letting the underclassmen know they were an integral part of our success.
CONGRATULATIONS ALSO to your being named 5A Central Boys Soccer Coach of the Year and All-Star Coach! WOW! How did you celebrate these achievements?
I was a chaperone for the senior trip, so I spent a few days with the senior class at the beach. And I’m hoping that the East team will wrap up All-Star Week with a win.
Where did you attend high school and what sports did you play while there?
I attended Arkadelphia High and played soccer, tennis, and ran cross country and track.
What/Who influenced and inspired you to coach soccer? My mom was a gymnastics coach at Arkadelphia for over 20 years, so I grew up in the gym and saw what the life of a coach was like. When I finished my college 4
soccer career, I was grateful for an opportunity to continue to be involved in the sport.
Who is your favorite professional soccer player and why?
Lionel Messi – he is incredibly talented and plays the game with absolute class. And despite his numerous awards and recognitions, he remains humble, unlike many superstars. Plus he wears my favorite number, 10.
What would you have chosen as a career if not coaching?
My plans were to earn a graduate degree in engineering, but the Lord opened a door teaching physics and coaching soccer here at LRCA, so if I’d not had that opportunity, I’d very likely be in the engineering field.
What do you do in your spare time- hobbies?
I love to run and am looking forward to training for my first half-marathon soon. I also enjoy wakeboarding and snowboarding whenever I get a chance to be on the lake or in the mountains.
Do you have any pets?
No pets currently, but if I did, it’d be a dog.
What is your favorite movie and/or tv show? Top Gear – the British version. I’m a car guy, and the hosts are pretty funny.
Tell us something about yourself that most people don’t know?
I grew up working with my dad on our family cattle farm. Though I resented it at times, I’m now very grateful for the experience and the work ethic that working on the farm helped me develop.
