Victory. The word has many meanings that influence our lives. As we created this publication, it became more than just a magazine to us, it became a platform. We centered these 80 pages on the one word that kept us going when we felt like we could n e v e r fi n i s h . W e k n e w w e h a d t o e x p o s e what true victory meant for us. The topic of Victory is constantly mentioned in the Bible. 1 John 5:4 expands on the victory we have in Christ each and every day. The sinful world that we live in holds nothing compared to the victory Christ has over death, conquering all sin and truly overcoming the world. As Christians, we no longer have fear of death. Trials are inevitable, but we get to take comfort in the v i c t o r y w e h a v e i n C h r i s t . V i c t o r y i s o ft e n misunderstood as the chance for one group of people to rise over another or to gain more p o w e r f o r t h e i r o w n s e l fi s h r e a s o n s . T h i s i d e a i s clearly visible in the rise of radical feminism in this generation. The rise of women empowerment i s s o m e t h i n g t h a t s h o u l d n o t d i s a p p e a r, b u t i t i s important to change the radical perception of the movement. Through this magazine, we highlighted a version of feminism through the fundamentals of Christianity. Finding identity in Christ and not in the world is how women attain true victory. When w e c h o o s e t o p u t a s i d e t h e w o r l d ’s v a l u e s , s u c h a s b o d y t y p e , e x p e n s i v e o b j e c t s , p o p u l a r i t y , e t c . , w e i m m e d i a t e l y fi n d o u r s e l v e s l e ft w i t h t h e p e r f e c t l o v e o f C h r i s t . The victory we want to share does not downplay beauty, healthy lifestyle, or design, but centers it all around Christ. SISTERS IN CHRIST
C O M M U N I T Y
Who would you be today without the people in your life who have supported you? What would you have done without the mentors and girl friends you have been blessed with? Your answer is probably similar to mine—one, you would not be where you are today without them, and two, you would have probably made even more silly decisions without their advice and counsel. As we dive deeper into the modern age, the dynamic and definition of sisterhood are quickly changing. Being sisters is no longer limited by bloodline; the ability to connect with someone on a deep and personal level goes far beyond the family tree. My sister Allie has helped create the person I am today, and I would not have as strong of a faith without the impression she has made on my life. Allie has taught me to be confident and to do things that are spontaneous and out of the ordinary. However, no one person can provide everything a person needs in order to become who they are meant to be. That is where “adopted sisters” come into play. I am talking about girls you may have connected and grown with, both emotionally and spiritually. I have been so blessed to have numerous girls like these in my life. The sisterhood that your blood and adopted sisters provides should elicit a safe space of encouragement and vulnerability to be your true self. Genuine sisters will accept you no matter what because they care about you and want the absolute best for you. Sisterhood should be about finding a place where you are not judged, where you can cry openly, where you are not ridiculed for your true self, and where it is okay to reveal your imperfections. Your sisters should be there to encourage you, but they should also be there to hold you accountable to the words or actions that you have taken part in. They keep things real, and will tell you what you don’t always want to hear. Since you and your sisters must be able to be real, you are tasked with holding each other accountable, but in a way that is constructive. These girls should never disguise their judgements as “accountability” in order to pass off their harsh words as constructive criticism. These words of accountability should only be said to help heal and allow you to grow as a believer. Despite blood-related sisters being relatively close in age, adopted sisters can be quite the contrary. Your spiritual sisters do not have to be the same age as you, or even in the same stage of life. A few of my closest spiritual sisters are older than I am, and yet the connection we are able to have is equally meaningful. The common denominator of spiritual sisterhood is our faith in Christ, and that faith is what unites us all. It says in the Bible to surround yourself with those who are wise, and you shall become wise (Proverbs 13:20). By looking to the women and girls around you who are solely focused on the Lord, you are following the requests of the Lord.

ASHLEY
CHILDERS
A
fter selling her furniture and lighting brand, Ashley Childers quickly began dreaming up a new product brand for her next journey in life. She had two wishes for her next product to accomplish: for it to be woman-centered and to have attainable prices. So, with those thoughts in mind, Ashley created her own name-brand jewelry. To her, jewelry is a unique outlet for personal expression without direct communication. “Jewelry is meant to be an experience; it is a very meaningful and intentional category in fashion,” Ashley said. Ashley Childers’ jewelry is created to give women a chance to make a statement in their daily lives. Her incredible business skills stem from putting God, family, and relationships before her work life. Keeping her priorities in check has allowed Ashley to flourish in business. Like many collections, Ashley’s jewelry is unified by an underlying theme. The spring collection’s theme is thrive, because of her hope to inspire those around her to thrive in all they do, whether it be in happiness, relationships, or one’s spiritual life. “Thrive” came to life with floral colors and garden style jewelry. Using her God-given talents of running a prosperous business, Ashley created stylish jewelry while also being a light for Christ.

WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS
Maggie Jackson, future OBU Tiger, has taken the trials of her life and transformed them into a testimony of her faith. Maggie is a light to those around her as well as a mentor to seventh grade girls at her school. “My biggest challenge has been to make changes in my life because of my physical health,” Maggie said. I was on one path in life, thinking that it was going to be what I did for the rest of my high school career, but after one doctor appointment all of that changed. I was lost and afraid that I wouldn’t find an activity that I would love as much as dance. I prayed about it and God took the driver’s seat of my life. Then by the grace of God, He provided and gave me the opportunity to be part of the LRCA Fine Arts Department.” Not only did Maggie use this opportunity to get plugged into different extracurricular activities, she also leaned into older mentors for Biblical advice. When Maggie was a freshman entering her first year of high school, then senior Georgiana Burnside befriended Maggie and shared her own story, giving Maggie new hope for her own future. “She mentored me throughout my entire freshman year and taught me to never give up on what I was doing. At the time, I
WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS, MAKE LEMONADE. was struggling to find something that I really enjoyed doing in my extracurricular time, and Georgiana had encouraged me to join the Student Council and become the vice president of my class. Georgiana inspired me to always keep a smile on my face and be kind to others.” When asked what words of wisdom she would give to those looking up to her, Maggie said, “Take every opportunity that is thrown at you that you feel called to. I could have done Little Rock Christian plays, but I decided to just do musicals because I was scared of acting. If I would’ve done the plays, my acting could’ve gotten so much better. I was able to take the opportunity senior year, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my high school career.” Maggie is a perfect example of someone who found the gifts that God has given her and used them to live her life for the kingdom of God. ALLIE PARKINSON Creativity can be found anywhere. Allie Parkinson, an aspiring author, specifically believes this to be true through her writing. Currently, Allie is writing a book-- and not just a book, but a complete series. The series will essentially underline the messiness of the world, one of the core themes being that “justification does not always excuse actions or make them morally right, and that unification has power.” She explains that she has had her idea for the series since seventh grade, evolving throughout the years as her writing skills improve. “Lately I feel like I’ve finally been able to properly convert my novel from idea to page and I’m excited to see how it turns out,” Allie said.

Allie claims she found her creativity as soon as she realized she had the power to create characters with just a pencil and paper. And when asked how she feels inspired, Allie writes, “whenever I read something that’s really well-written I think to myself, ‘Wow, I want to make something like this one day.’” Allie’s goal is to spread ideas that are important to her through her writing, claiming that commentary and impactful themes are part of being a good writer.

LET YOUR LIFE BE GENUINE
AUTH E N T I C I T Y
Let your life be genuine. As the topic of authenticity has made its way around the secular world, so has it become a conversation in our Christian lives. But the question is, what determines an authentic Christian life? As someone who has grown up in the church, I believe my life has not been directed by authenticity. And I don’t blame that on how I was raised, I blame that on my own perception. I’ve watched people put on masks, pretending they live a perfect life completely based upon Christ. And though I’ve noticed the fake and superficial conversations, ideals, and mindsets that come along with these masks, I still look upon them in adoration. To be seen by others as someone who is simply living a good life seemed better than the true sacrifice that Christ made for me. But, when I look back, why would I choose a life that’s fake rather than a life based upon the truths of the one who created me? It’s a strange choice, but it’s a choice that so many Christians make every single day. It’s found in the superficial perfection of social media, the unconvincing “I’m doing good!” conversations at Sunday morning church, or changing who you are when you’re with different friends. The hardest part for me is the constant pull between wanting to be liked and wanting to be real and fully myself. But authenticity is not merely being different than everyone. A life shaped by wanting to look a certain way is exhausting, and I would know: people’s opinions are so often more valuable to me than my own Creator’s. An authentic life should not be based on the mere idea of authenticity. It should be fueled by Christ alone, for fully living for Christ means being fully real, no longer held back by other’s expectations. Therefore, embrace who God created you to be. Live in his light. Don’t be held back by other’s opinions. Walk fully with Christ and be fully who He wants you to be. Amanda Glenn, one of the Bible teachers at Little Rock Christian Academy, is passionate about living out an authentic life pursuing Jesus. She said, “The counterfeit to living authentically is so dangerous. A false idea of authenticity means you have succumbed to a counterfeit created by a culture of relativism.” By this, Ms. Glenn points out that living in freedom does not mean just living your own truth. She goes on to say, “My hippie self went on a quest for truth after denying belief in a personal God. I did not feel good about seeing such distressing poverty in the world, and instead of communicating with the Lord about it, I spent a few years seeking truth in the mountains and desert and the gods of goodfeeling and self-actualization. From the outside, many would say I was living authentically: a life of rock-climbing, water-skiing, and driving across the country exploring. But, I was never more lost. My pride kept me from surrendering to who God is.If I am not abiding in The Truth (John 14:6), how on earth could I live a life of authenticity?” Essentially, we were created to share in fellowship with the Trinity. We were also created with capabilities to display Christ’s love for us to others. According to Psalm 139, we are “intricately woven” by God. If we were uniquely and intricately created by God, then by abiding in Him we are living out our purpose. Not living for others or ouselves, but for God alone. For he beautifully created us all to be unique, but we ultimately all have one central purpose in life: to authentically and wholeheartedly glorify our Creator.

LINDSEY DAIL
BROOKE GREEN
Lindsey began her workout journey with the intentions of becoming a more confident and better version of herself. She trains at D1 fitness center an average of 5-9 times per week. Lindsey does admit that she struggles with falling into a pattern of excessive amounts of activity, but she loves how it makes her feel on the regular. Lindsey emphasized the need for change in the gym but most importantly in the kitchen. Her mindset is “abs are made in the kitchen, not in the gym.” Working out allows Lindsey to feel better both physically and mentally Exercising has changed Lindsey’s world for the better, and she doesn’t plan on quitting anytime soon!
Currently balancing between soccer, cross country, and swim, Brooke’s life is a perfect example of an athlete who thrives in time management. With the help of a planner app, Brooke is able to keep track of all of her assignments and extracurricular activities. But, with a schedule like her own, stress is inevitable. During those times she reminds herself that she does not compete for her own recognition, but for God’s glory alone. Sports has given Brooke the opportunity to use her passion to compete and push herself. Her team becomes her family, creating an unbreakable bond. Overall, sports have molded Brooke into the person she is today, and they will continue to make a difference as she enters her future career decisions.
ERICA STILWELL Being a base for her competitive cheer team in the 10th grade, Erica began her weightlifting career with the focus of wanting to gain strength to improve her one-man stunts. With the help of her dad, Erica began her new journey. In her opinion, weightlifting differs from other workouts in that it challenges her physically and mentally. It has taught her to remain dedicated to her goals and work to reach them. She has brought this mindset outside the gym into her relationships with friends and family, creating a more confident and dedicated version of herself. Weightlifting is not something you see most women taking part in, but Erica uses it as a chance to break this stereotype. Overall, Erica focuses on living this lifestyle for herself and not for the approval of others.
HEATHER TARPLEY Growing up in South Florida with both parents as teachers, physical activity was a constant in Heather Tarpley’s life. Competitive swimming came with ease as a result of having a pool in her backyard, so her swimming career allowed her to maintain a healthy lifestyle. But, with a working mom in the 50s and 60s, eating healthy was not necessarily available. Heather remembers frozen foods being very prominent. After traveling to France for a period of her life, the way she viewed food was revamped. Fresh foods, no snacks, and balanced diet, were all things she recognized she needed in her life. Making good choices in the kitchen every day let her reach optimal health. To her, being healthy isn’t about spending money for healthier foods or anything special, it’s just a lifestyle.

When I think of a little girl, I think of a girl who makes the MOST of what she has been given, laughs at everything, is pure hearted and believes the best in others. I don’t think those are qualities we have to leave behind as we age-- I think we can continue to be women like that today!

U N S T O P P A B L E A WORD FROM ANN MARIE GIBBS business owner of Krav Fit W H AT S P A R K E D Y O U R I N T E R E S T I N SELF DEFENSE? I’ve always been active and enjoyed working out, but I wanted something new to challenge myself. I’ve also always felt like it’s so important for women to know how to protect themselves. I did boxing for a few years but then I started reading about Krav Maga and became interested. After I took my first lesson I was hooked! Krav Maga is great exercise, but at the same time you are learning incredibly valuable lessons on how to protect yourself if the need arises!
W H Y I S I T I M P O R TA N T T H AT W E A S W O M E N P R O T E C T O U R S E LV E S ? It’s very important for women to know self defense. I am an advocate of carrying a weapon, but only if you are comfortable doing so and it’s imperative that you have spent a lot of time training with it and using it. Even if you do carry a weapon though, you can’t carry it everywhere. It’s illegal to carry weapons into some places so you can’t solely depend on that. My saying has always been “It’s great to have a weapon, but it’s even better to BE a weapon!”
W H AT I S O N E P I E C E O F A D V I C E YOU WOULD GIVE TO WOMEN? Always practice environmental awareness. Always be aware of what’s going on around you and always carry yourself with confidence. If I’m carrying a purse I like to carry it cross body so that my hands are free. If I’m carrying bags I try to always carry them in my non-dominant hand so that my dominant hand is free. Remember, no one wants a victim that looks like they will put up a fight! Be aware, head up, and shoulders back. If anything ever happens you fight, scream, yell, bite, there are NO rules! Your priority is to go home that day!
W H AT I N S P I R E S Y O U T O K E E P L I V I N G A H E A LT H Y L I F E ? In addition to teaching Krav Maga, I am also a personal trainer and it’s important that I be an example to the women I work with. I’m also a Registered Nurse so I know first hand the realities of health concerns that can arise from a sedentary lifestyle. Exercise is great for you physically, but the mental aspect of it is also vital. Years of research has shown that your body physically benefits from exercise. Your mental health also benefits greatly from exercising. Learning Krav Maga self-defense has been an invaluable thing for me in every aspect of my life, I only wish I had started it sooner!
GETTIN’ FIESTY
W H AT I S T H E M O S T I M P O R TA N T A S P E C T O F SELF-DEFENSE? I feel like the most important aspect of self-defense is to always be aware of your environment and carry yourself with confidence! Don’t be distracted by your phone or anything else. Be aware, alert, and have good posture. You should carry yourself in a manner that says “Do not mess with me. I will fight you.” The last thing a person with bad intentions wants is a person who is going to be loud and fight back! That being said, I would rather know self-defense and not need it then need it and not have it!
W H AT S T E R E O T Y P E H A V E W O M E N B E E N G I V E N I N SOCIETY AND HOW CAN IT BE BROKEN? I think in today’s society a lot of stereotypes have been broken because you see women doing everything that men do. From sports to politics to being entrepreneurs, women are doing it all! Unfortunately, there are still some old stereotypes that exist in some people’s minds. Some people may see women as being fragile or incompetent at protecting themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth though. Women can learn to protect themselves just as well as men do. We may often be smaller and less muscular but Krav Maga was designed for anyone to be able to master no matter what your size. It isn’t so much about being “strong,” it’s about learning to leverage your body in a way that makes your kicks, punches, etc., more powerful.
There are plenty of opportunities that women have today to learn how to protect themselves. Ann Marie Gibbs provides classes and group lessons for anyone so they never have to feel weak or vulnerable. We cannot choose to sit back and let the world take advantage of us. As women, we have to be prepared for the punches life takes at us!

IT’S ALL IN YOUR HEAD
“
The word “mindset” is how you choose to present yourself to others in an impactful
and deeply meaningful way. When you choose to be positive, encouraging, loving, considerate or compassionate, you are making a conscious decision to place a certain type of spin on whatever your current situation happens to be. A person’s mental health is incredibly important because it has the ability to affect the other functions of the human body. A healthy heart, mind and body is a total package. Mental stability can be defined as when one is capable of recognizing unhealthy, toxic, or dangerous situations and/or relationships for what they are and then choosing to not foster those situations and/or relationships for the sake of your mental stability. On a daily basis I encourage young teens to check their mindset because

powerful voice in my ear. She always encouraged me to pursue whatever I felt led to chase. Everything was within my grasp, or so she led me to believe. When I was in my 20’s, I had two different friendships I walked away from strictly because they were so negative. Best decision ever! Being strong says, “I am here and watch me accomplish this task” -vs- “I will try my best.” It’s a positive compared to a mediocre mindset. Being HEALTHY means you are willing to recognize behavior that will not benefit you or your future goals. Jesus made you to be strong and courageous in all you do! Joshua 1:9 says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” I would encourage the youth of today to seriously consider their own mindset and assess honestly if it will propel them in the directions of their dreams. Are you an encourager? Are you a good listener? Are you willing to recognize your own weaknesses? Do you want to be the kind of person that can lead? What kind of person do you want to be? bout three years ago I started studying the Enneagram for a Bible study I was helping write on marriage. We were wanting to look at our personalities and how it affects the way we interact in our relationship and live out the love that God calls us to in 1 Corinthians 13. I wanted to use another personality tool, but God closed that door and instead led us to use the Enneagram. That was the beginning of what continues to be a constant learning process, and now I am thankful for that closed door! Most personality tests tell you HOW you behave or WHAT you do. The Enneagram goes deeper to look at the motivation of those behaviors: it tells you WHY you think, act, and feel a certain way. From a Biblical perspective, we were all created to both experience and express God in a unique way. The Enneagram helps us understand how God created us, and it shows us where we tend to look to our own strength and power and where we need to invite God in so that we are depending on His strength and His power. Knowing and understanding the Enneagram helps you see the why behind how you and those around you think, feel, and act. And when you begin to understand that, it leads you to compassion and understanding for the people around you rather than just being annoyed or frustrated by their behaviors.
CARRIE CARTER 73
BO MORTON What is up?! As I look toward mt future, I plan on attending the University of Arkansas in order to get a bachelor’s in business, marketing, and entrepreneurship. I hope that from that degree I am able to begin my own real estate firm or begin my very own Fortune 500 Company! In this capstone project I was in charge of the Style section. This called for me to be in close contact with local models, stores, and be well versed in software such as Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Lightroom. The biggest challenge of this process was most definitely the scheduling!! It is a lot harder than you would think to get numerous models together to shoot along with having stores lend you clothes and return them within the same day. But, overall, it was such an amazing experience because it taught me many organizational and entrepreneurial skills that I would have not obtained otherwise. The store owners and models were so fun to work with and I had the best time styling the girls for every shoot. Throughout the rest of my life I would love to make all people feel included in whatever activity is taking place. My prayer is to be all-inclusive and help everyone feel like they have a place and a purpose. My favorite Bible verses are Psalm 139:1-10. God knows us- He knows eour innermost thoughts and being, and in every situation, He will be there to guide us. In the darkness and in the light He will guide us and make a path for us.

When I started learning calligraphy in fifth grade, I learned that art doesn’t have to be objective- I found my own outlet through lettering that eventually morphed into a love for digital and layout design. Because of this, I was the designer and software manager for Victory Magazine—I created the Creativity section as well as designed most of the magazine. The biggest challenge for me throughout this process was definitely disciplining myself while trying to maintain my “creative strength” haha. But, this definitely prepared me for college, for designing things will be a big part of my everyday life. In the future (and now!), I hope to be a light to the wonder that is Jesus Christ. Specifically, I want to show Jesus to people like me who have often felt out of place and without a voice. I’ve learned so much over the years that God has granted each of us with unique abilities that will all work together for His kingdom! Therefore, we should not fear—the Lord is our light (Psalm 27:1). For what is life about if we aren’t living for Him? We are meant to reflect Him in everything we do and authentically live our life according to His. Woohoo for Victory in Christ!
ANNA YOUNG Hey peeps!! I’m the other half of the Anna Team for Victory Magazine! This past year of creating this publication has been one wild ride, but I have loved every minute of it. These past few years, God has given me the desire for health both mentally and physically. So, by focusing on the Health section of this magazine, I have been given clarification for my future. I will be furthering my education at Arkansas State University studying Dietetics in the Health Department, hoping to one day become a Registered Dietician. Working on this magazine has taught me boldness, organization, business strategies, patience, and so much more. I think that the most difficult part of this process has been creating our own deadlines and following through. It definitely has pushed me physically and mentally to stay on task when no one is telling me what to do. But, through it all, it has given me the desire to someday be able to lead my community with a servant mindset just as Christ did. As with any major project, stress often comes in pretty quickly, and this project has been no different. My favorite verse of scripture is 2 Timothy 1:7 which reads, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” Understanding that God wants us to live through His power and love often gives me the confidence I need to press on even when my stress seems unbearable.
