Hiya Key Clubbers!

I hope that we’ve all been doing okay, especially since the start of school! It’s hard to get back into the swing of things, but I know that we’ll get used to it soon enough :D Anyways, I’ve been kind of in a funk to what choose for the newsletter theme. I went through a couple of ideas, but I finally landed on an ocean theme! I hope you all enjoy reading it :)

Remember that our first meeting is on Wednesday, September 6th afterschool in the library! I look forward to seeing you all there!

Lots of love, Vikkos :)

This past month, I was able to volunteer at one of my favorite events, Eaglet Camp! Although it was a lot of work running around the school to get everything ready, it was definitely rewarding I remember how nervous I was to enter high school, so I’m I was able to talk to the incoming freshmen and ease their minds

Additionally, I was able to introduce them to my favorite organization, Key Club! It was my first event as LTG, and it was memorable for sure.

New beginningsNew beginnings

This month, our school had its annual “Eaglet Camp,” which is essentially a freshman orientation day. As members of Key Club, we could sign up to give tours to the incoming freshmen and answer any questions they had, as well as standing with the Key Club poster board afterwards advertising and explaining our club in an attempt to get new members

When giving the tours, our club president Christopher Do and I were put in charge of a group of freshman together. We led them through the school, showing them where everything is and explaining how it all works, and during this process I realized how overwhelming it is to be a freshman. After only a year I had forgotten the pure confusion and feeling of insignificance I felt on my first days as a high school student. I was doing my best to answer their questions and explain things to the best of my ability, but most of them looked lost Which is part of the reason I was so happy to be there, as I had the opportunity to help them figure everything out and hopefully gain an understanding of the school to not be as utterly lost on the first day of school. I was very excited to be able to explain things and calm their nerves (even if juust by a little bit) about high school and how their experience will go.

After giving the tours, I walked over to the Key Club board in the cafeteria to answer questions about Key Club and gain new potential members After being there for only a few seconds I already had a person asking me what Key Club was. I gave the same speech what seemed like a thousand times, but each and every time I saw the flicker of interest and thought in their eyes when I said what the club is all about. Several times, I saw somebody that I knew and pulled them aside to talk to them about Key Club and try to convince them to join, and more often than not they would laugh and say that they don’t want to, but I was able to convince almost all of them to at least come to the first meeting to see what it’s like and maybe join the club officially in the future! It was always such an exciting moment hearing that they were actually interested and would try to come.

Apart from new freshman, I have several friends that are not in Key Club that I thought would thoroughly enjoy it and could benefit from being in the club greatly I talked to many different people, upperclassmen included, about joining the club and quite a few people said that they wanted to and that they would be there! The moment of joy I get from knowing my friends are going to try out something that I recommended and be there to support me if nothing else and hopefully end up fully joining the club is so amazing I have a list of people to send specific updates on times and dates of meetings to for the greatest convenience on their part I could not be more excited to see them at the first meeting in just 2 weeks!

Overall, I can’t wait to see all the new faces at our first meeting, and I have very high hopes for how well this year will go! I can’t wait to find out how the year will turn out, since after just 1.5 weeks of school it is already looking very promising.

UPLIFT THROUGH EDUCATION

THE PROJECT:

Education is the key element we see in our daily lives; it stems from a variety of topics towards the betterment of one another, and in long term growth, to the actions of individuals. Education is important in the success and continuity of the foundations of Key Club and how we grow as one: through knowledge, sharing our passion, and encouraging others. It provides unity, and it ultimately symbolizes the development for our future. The Governor's Project, Uplift through Education, strives to build the servant leaders of our District to give back to individuals in underprivileged communities through a multitude of community-driven events that focus on the empowerment and importance of education, research, and financial literacy. In addition, this project is intended to highlight that our district, as one, is unified as a team to help people from around the world who do not have access to similar resources and lesson plans to utilize in schools, universities, and beyond. As we rise together, we can uplift the many students, peers, and adults around us. It starts with education - through increasing the culture, teachings, and knowledge - from one person to another.

WHY?

According to a report studied by the United Nations, over 35% of children and adolescents around the world do not have access to educational resources Compounding these inequities has created a digital divide which continues to grow, and individuals can face considerable barriers in the future without equal access - over two thirds of the percentage studied faces inaccessible technology usage within their home as well The importance of uplifting others through education is to provide them with the opportunity to gain experiences and carry on the knowledge they obtain for their future endeavors Many individuals around the world do not have access to di erent school-based resources because of di ering circumstances
