EDITOR
Hey Key Club! Hope your school year is going great so far! Whether you’re an underclassmen or upperclassmen, the inevitable stress of schoolwork is bound to hit at one point or another. With juggling homework, studying for school, and extracurriculars, it can be easy to forget to have fun and make the most of our high school experience. With that being said, as high school students it’s important that we distribute our energy to activities that will not only allow us to de-stress, but also keep us connected with the people and community around us. To remember and be grateful for what we have, and to give back our most valuable asset: our time. So thank you. Thank you for all the service that you as members of Key Club International do every week, even for a couple of hours, no matter the cause. Because our service goes beyond the people around us— it stretches far beyond our community into the bigger picture. That’s why I joined this organization in the first place. For love. For service. Keep up the With Love, good work! Gilliana Tawaran

MISSION ARLINGTON: COLLABORATING WITH CIRCLE K INTERNATIONAL BY: PRESTON TRUONG, DIVISION 39S
This weekend, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in one of Mission Arlington’s vast amounts of volunteer events with members of the University of Texas at Arlington’s Circle K International and some Key Clubbers from Bowie High School. With approximately 30 helpers that morning, the volunteers were asked to unload a truck full of canned pinto beans and FUZE bottled tea in order to be stored in a warehouse for a future food drive. To split up the work as efficiently as possible, we split up into two teams: one team unloaded the goods from the truck and the other team had to move it into the storage room. Through this experience, not only did we get a good workout session from carrying cans heavier than my ranked teams in a certain game I shall not name, but also taught us valuable lessons about teamwork and being able to work with strangers. Even though this activity was supposed to take three hours, we managed to shorten up the time by half, finishing in about an hour-thirty. With so much time to spare, we decided to clean out the storage room in time for Mission Arlington’s future Thanksgiving/Easter events and move boxes of donated backpacks stored in another building into the storage room as well. To be completely frank, cleaning up a messy room filled with 29 other sweaty individuals will probably never be my preferred cup of tea.

Transporting the backpacks from one building, appearing simple and easy at first, slowly became tedious and tiring. However, despite the undeserved negative reputation I may portray it as here, I feel like I got to understand my peers’ motivation for service even better. I was able to interview some of the volunteers during the middle of our shifts about what drove them to take time out of their precious day to come to Mission Arlington. To my surprise, although every volunteer had a different reason as to why they were volunteering that day the drive to give back to society was unvaried. Being able to interact with officers from Circle K and Bowie’s Key Club allowed me to get some valuable information and tips on how I can enrich Lake Ridge Key Club even further. The most notable tip I got from my interview with Circle K member Peter Vo was how the officers are more involved with their members by creating a large-scale Circle K Group chat on the platform GroupMe, giving both sides a more versatile way to communicate with each other. Mission Arlington has been a very captivating volunteer event for me and I hope
