Allies in Youth is one of the most familiar places where our club members often spend time volunteering during the weekend. This organization helps us to manage time and allows us to develop a lot of skills, especially teamwork and leadership.

Editor Hello Key Clubbers,

My name is Nhi Nguyen, your next year Key Club Editor! It is almost the end of the school year and summer is coming! I know that you guys have been experiencing a challenging time with virtual learning and volunteering instructions. Still, I’m really glad that we have all got through last year together safely, especially, you guys have done an amazing job in staying involved with Key Club and spending time to volunteer. Besides, I also appreciate the hard work and dedication that our board has brought to our club to give us great volunteering opportunities. I am now in officer training to get prepared for next year with our current editor, Lauren St Clair. Being an editor allows me to express my creativity and improve a lot of skills. So I’m grateful for being elected and I’ll put in my best effort to contribute to our club. Hopefully, next year is going to be a better experience for everyone and we will get to volunteer together more frequently. It is an excitement for me to work with our new board and get support from our members. Key Club monthly newspapers are always posted on the club’s website, so you guys can check it out and stay updated on our events as well! Wish you all the best!

Yours in service,

Nhi Nguyen 9

A DIRE NEED FOR VOLUNTEERING A FEATURED ARTICLE BY NEVA KHAN The 21st Century is filled with people who have different needs, dreams, and objectives in life. In this sense, there is a group of people who dedicate their lives to helping -service workers. For definition sake, community service refers to work done by a group of people to benefit others, it is often carried out by people, and the most significant beneficiary is the community. The people who undertake community service require no payment although sometimes volunteers receive different kinds of gifts. Community service is a noble profession since it gives the service worker an opportunity to help the needy and the disadvantaged.

Community service has several significant benefits to service workers. When an individual engages in community service, they gain psychological, social and cognitive benefits. Here, one gains psychological benefits due to the general life satisfaction associated with helping others. It might help to ease depression and reduce stress. The social benefits are gained where social workers are allowed to interact with people, and in the process, there is a formation of a special bond and an increase in social awareness and responsibility (Lawson et al., 2017). Lastly, cognitive benefits are gained in the manner that social workers enhance their knowledge and develop better interpersonal communication skills.

HUMANS OF TEXAS OKLAHOMA Featured article by Elizabeth Mingle

Being a member of Key Club has paved a way for me to be more outgoing. As social coordinator, my duties were to increase membership and plan gatherings for officers. With this position, I hoped to enhance my social skills and become more involved in the club. I recall planning an “Among Us” themed social for Key Club’s officers. It was a great way to bond with My perspective about Key Club has seen a great transition. I originally believed that Key Club would be uninteresting and not worth my time. However, after the persistent persuasion by a friend to join the

other people and at the same time have a fun experience. My creation of this society is significant as it shows how my role in Key Club provided me a way to become outgoing.

Club my view was greatly altered. Since joining Key Club my sophomore year I have learned so much. I have made connections with other people within the club, achieved a higher role as an officer, and have become more involved in my community. Without this society, this wouldn’t have been made possible. My experience in Key Club has been one of the best experiences in my life for it has convinced me to be more outgoing and has taught me the value of volunteering.

14

Key Club has taught me the importance of committing acts of service. Prior to joining the club, I was motivated to volunteer by the idea that the opportunities would look great on a college application. I remember participating in Feed Tarrant County. This opportunity entailed placing pre-cooked meals into the cars of families in need of them. Me and other members of the club would alternate between

holding signs directing drivers to the pick-up location and carrying trays of food to their vehicles. My sweat and work ethic actually made a difference to the lives of others. Without Key Club I would not be able to know what this feeling is like.

To conclude, my overall Key Club experience has been amazing for it has persuaded me to be extroverted and has taught me the significance of work ethic in the community. With my last year in this society I hope to continue to grow and experience more of what Key Club has to offer. It saddens me that I did not consider joining Key Club sooner. Better late than never.
