Favorite volunteering place / event I went in 2021 What I have learned from being a Key Clubber in 2021?
"I've learned that volunteer work may not be materially rewarding, but it's rewarding in the way that it feels nice to help out the community."
"I enjoyed the Veterans Day Breakfast because of the people that I volunteered with and just the whole atmosphere!"

FEATURED ARTICLE BY MADISON NGUYEN
I have wanted to join Key Club ever since my older sister once spoke of it, but I never intended to join my freshmen year. That year had already been strange and overwhelming because of corona and online school, so I planned to not join Key Club due to having to add volunteering to my workload. Not to mention that we were already a month into the school year, but for some miraculous reason, I joined anyway. The start was slow to say the least, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I appreciated the thought of having something to do every other Wednesday at 3:30 PM even if it was short and I was just sitting behind a screen.
Thanks to Key Club, I was able to find confidence, something that I have always had trouble with. I remember at the end of a typical meeting, there were a few Kahoot games that I chose to join. I have never been the type of person to speak out or easily talk to the people, fear of saying the wrong thing or embarrassing myself. I did not have this fear during this time. I genuinely had fun talking to the other members, and was not afraid to turn on my mic to say something. For one of the first times in my life, I felt like I belonged somewhere.
By being in Key Club, I was able to meet many new people. One of my favorite memories from this year was when I went to pick up trash at Oliver Nature Park with Neva, the vice president, and Nhi, the editor. While cleaning up the park, I was not afraid to speak as I always was. I was able to feel comfortable with the people around me and be myself. The experience was memorable not only because it was my first in person club event, but because of the friends I was able to make. I was able to get to know the other club members while helping the community.
Overall, not only has Key Club made me a better person by pushing me to volunteer and help others more, but I was also able to become more open and confident. I was able to meet so many new people, and even gain a new leadership role as Webmaster. I am thrilled to be involved in such a welcoming and life-changing club. As I go through my second year of Key Club, I am glad to say that my love for it has only grown stronger. Due to all this, I am overjoyed to spend two more years in Key Club volunteering and working to make the world a better place!
