THE VENDUE Located in the historic district of Charleston, SC, this project artfully knits together five historic buildings. The renovation of the popular 36,800 SF Vendue Inn hotel, located at East Bay Street and Vendue Range, provides a functional and visual connection of the buildings in the first floor public spaces with a new walkway through arched openings in the party walls that once separated the buildings. The interior renovation includes a bar, dining area, lobby, coffee shop, and restaurant, as well as some of the guest rooms. Exterior renovations include opening up the first floor with the addition of larger windows for a better connection to the street life, as well as renovation of the popular roof-top bar and new entry canopies.

THE INN AT ELON This 4-star, 80-room boutique hotel is nestled within Elon University’s botanical gardens and is designed to blend seamlessly with the Colonial/ Georgian Revival aesthetic of the existing campus. The interiors are timeless, classic, and polished, but also embrace contemporary elements to create an exceptional guest experience. The materials palette is elegant and neutral with accents of the University’s branded maroon color. Program spaces include a restaurant, bar, meeting facilities, and ballroom. A native “Elon oak” which was harvested onsite is used in feature elements throughout the interior. The design embodies the University’s environment and culture and draws from the metaphor of the oak tree: like acorns seeding the future, 100% of hotel profits fund University scholarships.

583 KING STREET The five-story urban infill project, located on Charleston’s upper King Street, contains 54 guestrooms along with a large open-air courtyard, a lobby/ lounge, and spacious guest suites with kitchenettes. The 54,500 SF boutique hotel pays homage to the maritime history of Charleston; Nautical influences and colors have inspired palettes throughout the building, with royal and navy blues, crisp whites, and driftwood browns displaying the softer side to coastal living. The sailboat inspired striped lobby floors are highlighted with custom acrylic art panels, and the guest rooms feature custom graphic wardrobes, beautifully appointment bathrooms, and a soft, serene palette, allowing guests to drift away into the essence of Charleston.

MARRIOTT SOUTHPARK The Marriott SouthPark Renovation incorporates a unique and sophisticated style that reflects the clientele and scenery of the SouthPark area. Nestled in a park-like setting, surrounded by trees, the prominent tree canopy outside is incorporated throughout with plush green finishes and heavy textures. The site also provides easy access to patios, shops and restaurants, all walkable, making the property highly desirable to business travelers and locals alike. With the renovation, the property sought to appeal to a broader demographic, creating ethereal atmospheres in the guest rooms, promoting calm and serenity – perfect for guests during a hectic business trip or someone looking for a staycation. The M Club provides a ‘members’ only experience where you can work, connect, recharge and treat yourself.

RIVERDOGS RILEY PARK CLUB The renovation and addition of the private, club-level amenity space at the Charleston RiverDogs stadium features a full service kitchen, bar, and 360degree views of both the baseball stadium and surrounding marsh. Special care was taken to design a space that fit within the existing facility, while creating an elevated guest experience catering to high-end corporate events, weddings, and premier game viewing. The client was looking for an ambience of Lowcountry elegance and the room was designed with this at the forefront. Rich earth tones, premium leathers, elegant chandeliers, reclaimed wood flooring, wrought iron details, and sprawling windows are perfectly nestled amongst the five-star views.

HOFFLER PLACE This luxury student residence echoes Charleston’s historic architectural detailing. The amenity corridor recreates the experience of meandering alleyways with custom tile installations and filtered light from glass pavers above. A recurring art deco motif throughout the property pays homage to the site’s history as the home of a historic African American movie theater.

BROADSTONE QUEEN CITY Contemporary art meets Charlotte’s royal history and opulence to create Broadstone Queen City. The interior strategy of this 260-unit, high-end residential tower features “jewel-box” spaces – facing the street, each flowing with a different color at night for visual impact – with open-plan units offering sophisticated finishes, integrated technology, and an array of amenities.

FORK & PLOUGH The design for this farm-to-table restaurant and market allows the local and seasonal cuisine to take center stage. The 3,700 SF existing building was a former grocery store which had been compartmentalized into multi-tenant office space; the new design subtly divides the open-plan space into zones serving the various program elements including casual walk-up order counter, butcher area, retail area, bar area, and main dining area. Each zone is visually distinctive within the unified design aesthetic that flows from the interior to the outdoor seating area.
GREENVILLE, SC
BITTY & BEAU’S This coffee shop employing people with intellectual and developmental disabilities serves as a community anchor and gives patrons and staff alike the opportunity to see the world through a different lens. The joyful, economical design maximizes the nonprofit’s budget with high-impact and creative materials such as repurposed wood, custom millwork, and chalkboard-style graphics highlighting the company’s mission. Inventive use of materials such as live-edged wood offer a subtle but important metaphor: though we sometimes overlook materials which are “imperfect” at first glance, their individuality is what gives them character, beauty, and strength.
SAVANNAH, GA CHARLESTON, SC
WENDELL FALLS CLUBHOUSE This amenity center for Wendell Falls houses a fitness center and swimming pool, meeting and event spaces, administrative space, and a café. The center will serve 4,000 residential units in the new mixed-use development. The community recalls the regional vernacular of farmhouses and historic neighborhoods, and the center uses palettes, textures, and architectural elements familiar to the area. The sloping barn roof and warm wood materials are inspired by the agricultural history of the region, while expansive glass and exterior detailing provide a welcoming, contemporary aesthetic.
