EXPLORING... NEVER STOP EXPLORING. Anna Wintour, editor of the fashion

magazine, Vogue, once said, "You just need to have a love for what you're doing. It's

not about thinking that it's the cool thingj

it's about really believing in it:' Wintour's words exemplify the work that goes into publishing the Blue and Gold (yearbook).

From choosing the pictures and writing the stories to identifying individuals and writing captions, the work of the staff on the Blue and Gold shows the dedication

that is given to a publication which, like Vogue, strives for excellence and imagery. John Connolly '15 Editor, Blue and Gold

ensembles - performed for over two hours. The Concert Band, comprised of over seventy musicians, performed The Star Wars Epic by John Williams, which was comprised of all six theme songs - Duel of the Fates, Across the Stars, Revenge of the Sith, Princess Leia's Theme, The Imperial March/The Forest Battle, and Star Wars (Main Title). The Fifth period closed the band with a tribute to West Side Story. The Christmas Concert featured the same performing ensemble and played to packed house on December

QUESTTO FIND THE HOLY GRAIL

The stage at La Salle was transformed into The Middle Ages for four "standing room only "performances of Monty Python's Spamalot, a musical spoof of the Camelot legend and famous Arthurian fables. Based on the 1975 movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the musical opened in 2005 and no musical, pop culture reference, or Monty Python

skit is left unscathed. Thousands of theater fans and students packed the auditorium from March 13-16, 2014 as the production incorporated the combined talents of over 130 students from La Salle and surrounding area girl's high schools, and delivered on every level.

THE BLUE AND GOLD THE YEARBOOK Of LA SALLE CDLLEtiE HleiH SCHOOL HAS BEEN IN CONTINUOUS PUBLICATION SINCE THE LATE 19Z0S AND ARCHIVED COPIES CAN BE FOUND THROUtiHOUT THE SCHOOL.

The publication strives to capture the events of the school year through photographs and words. Staff members have the opportunity to develop skills in decision making and time management. In addition, they explore their own creative talents through writing, photography, photo

selection, and page design.

BWEANDGOLD

The theme for the 2014-2015 yearbook was Exploration and is based on the school's nickname and mascot, The Explorers. La Salle College High School and La Salle University are the only schools in America to use the Explorer as their mascot. The concept of exploration is represented throughout the pages of the yearbook along with student responses to the question "What does it mean to be a La Salle Explorer?"

"We sholl not cease Exploration and at the end of all of our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time." T.S. Eliot "Four Quartets" Little Gidding (No.4)

the Explorers knew they had a challenging road ahead of them. In preparation for the battles they were to face in the fall, the team hit the weight room and the practice field hard with a sense of purpose and determination. Each member of the 2014 La Salle football team bought in from day one that they were the best team in the state. They came together as a team through the pain

and heat of two-a-days, and by week one the Explorers were ready to make a statement. After taking care of business at North Penn, the team faced the brunt of their rigorous schedule. A few games proved to be unfor-

gettable. In the "'Brothers Forever Classic" which honored fallen heroes Travis Manion and Brendan looney, la Salle marched to a hard-fought victory over the physically superior Dematha Stags from Maryland. A few

weeks later, another Maryland powerhouse, McDonogh, came to town. The team earned a hard fought victory against another nationally recognized program by only allowing 3 second half points. So, after derailing the top two teams in the state of Maryland, they were ready for a matchup with 3A power Archbishop Wood. It was an instant classic with senior wide out Jimmy Herron hauling in 3 fourth quarter touchdowns to overcome a 17 point deficit. The Explorers then entered their league schedule and came out with victories over Father Judge and Roman Catholic and a tough loss to St. Joe's Prep. Even though they did not achieve their goal of winning the pel, the 2014 la Salle Explorers fought hard on every snap, and left with incredible memories of playing the game they love with their brothers.

unforgettable

........... ......The basketball season was full of excitement, big games, memories and milestones

to the Palestra and the PIAA state tourna-

alike. The team fed off the students' and fans'

ment, the team was able to bring in a second consecutive twenty-plus win season thanks

energy that they brought to every game, home or away. Playing in one of the toughest leagues on the east coast with a serious nonleague schedule provided for a season full of tests at every turn and it was a lot of fun to be a part of. From taking a trip down to Florida for a preseason tournament, to playing the Catholic League's best, to returning

in large part to Coach Dempsey and his staff, as well as maintain a top 10 state and area ranking, at one point rising to the top spot in the AAAA boys state ran kings. Thank you to all the fans, sponsors, parents, and La Salle staff for making this year one that all of the players, especially the nine seniors, will not soon forget.

state champs

The La Salle swim team has always taken

great pride in hard work, camaraderie, and quiet confidence. Coming into the season as reigning three time PIAA state champions, our expectations could not have been higher. After only losing three seniors from the class of 2014, coming into the season we knew we

would still be a very good team, and we were in a great position to repeat as PIAA cham pi路 ons. At the same time, we understood what it would take to stay on top. Working day in and day out, with 11 practices a week, along with the help from our excellent coaches, we were able to accomplish all of the goals we had set forth for ourselves. Through all of our hard work, we form a bond unlike any other. Through all the morning workout, and exhausting sets we become one of the dos路 est teams here at La Salle. We are all best

friends with each other, and we know that we have each other's backs no matter what. This camaraderie has been a large part of why we have been able to accomplish so much. Even though we have had so much success, we have been sure not to let it go to our heads. For the most part, we are quiet, unassuming individuals. We understand the importance of letting our swimming do the talking. We have proven notjust to us, but to the entire state, who is the top dog, and we have done it through our efforts in the pool. For all these reasons, as well as many others, we were able to retain all of our champion路 ships from years prior: Philadelphia Catholic League Champions, District XII Champi路 ons, and most importantly, PIAA AAA State Champions.

_.... young and strong....... ~

~"..

The last 4 years have been very different from each other. Just two years ago we had a large amount of seniors and worked hard enough to earn ourselves a state championship title. The year after we relied on a collective effort of our upperclassmen to make it as far as the quarterfinals of the state playoffs, losing to Penncrest 6¡5. This year has been different because we are very young. We are talented, but do not return many varsity seniors. So going into the year, there was a Jot of meshing to be done and a lot of chemistry to build. Players who were not used to playing much have started to take key roles and with a slow start have started to really shine. With a big opening win against DeMatha we started off strong. But as we worked our

way to Radnor and Malvern, we fell short by one of two goals each time. Going in we knew it would be a bit of a struggle trying to play teams with seasoned upperclassmen with many underclassmen. But everyday we would work hard at practice and push one another to overcome that. Later in the season we played Haverford and Episcopal, two very talented teams, Haverford being the #1 team in the nation. Those were tough losses, 12-7 and 8-7 respectively. But with the rest of our season still ahead it looks really good for our shot at another state championship. Our young guys are stepping up, and everyone is working as hard as they can in practice. As a team we are confident that we can bring home another trophy from Hershey.
