September 2010 Volume Twenty Number 1
Dear Friends and Guardians, It is now time for La Salle to change its focus from the more than 300 young campers and academic scholars who on a daily basis brightened our summer days to our mission of educating and developing the more than 1,050 young men who return to campus this Fall. Switching gears is what makes every day different at La Salle College High School. The Young Explorers will soon welcome the 270 members of the Class of 2014. For these newest Explorers, this will be both an exciting and a bit intimidating time. It usually takes about four weeks for the new class to settle in and get use to the routine and expectations of a La Salle education. As mothers and fathers of the Class of 2014, I encourage you to support your sons during these transition days and to assure them that things will become “normal” very soon for them. I look forward to seeing many of you at the opening events of the Fall and at the various events involving your sons. I welcome each of you to the La Salle family and the excitement of the next four years. I look forward to meeting the returning members of the Classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 as they continue their Lasallian education. It is always exciting to greet these students and to see how the summer has changed them. Inevitably they will have changed in looks and stature. Summer has a way of doing this to boys. It was a pleasure this summer to see many of the students working on campus alongside our maintenance and custodial staffs. I am sure these students have a new perspective on what it takes to get ready for a new school year and all the activity of campus in the summer. They most likely will demand that their classmates give a greater respect to the campus and the fruits of their hard work during the summer. Welcome the Classes of 2011, 2012, and 2013 to another exciting and growth-filled year. Over the summer, our Board of Trustees welcomed five new members: Mrs. Mimi Kehan, Executive Director, Arbour Square and The Birches of Harleysville; Mrs. Candy Markmann, Adjunct Professor of History, La Salle University; Mrs. Courtney Portlock, Director of Diversity and Community Life at Episcopal Academy; Mr. James H. Stewart, President of Malvern Prep; and Ms. Arlene Yocum, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, PNC Financial Services. On behalf of La Salle College High School, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the “retiring” members of the Board who have helped guide La Salle to its unique position among Catholic independent schools: Mr. Ernest Behr, Mrs. Catherine Cassidy, Mr. Austin Meehan, Brother Gerard Molyneaux, and Mrs. Judy Paul. All five Trustees have provided outstanding service to La Salle and the La Salle community is only stronger because of their guidance. I particularly welcome all parents to become involved with the Mothers’ Club and Men of La Salle. I encourage you to take advantage of the many opportunities for you to become a part of your son’s life here at La Salle. Believe it or not – the boys enjoy seeing their mothers and fathers involved with their school. Fall also provides the opportunity for cheering your sons at their various sport events. La Salle fans are key to our success. Over the summer, La Salle suffered the passing of Mrs. Mary Jo Smith, a long time math teacher and moderator of our Speech and Debate team. Mrs. Smith was a key member of our Lasallian family and we will greatly miss her presence and giftedness. To honor Mrs. Smith, our Math Resource Center will be named in her honor. Join me in expressing our sympathy and appreciation to her family for sharing Mary Jo with La Salle College High School. After what has been the hottest summer on record, I am looking forward to the Fall and all the activity of the boys on campus and throughout the building. There is no doubt but that the students bring life to the school. Sincerely yours,
Brother Richard Kestler, FSC ’60

Office of the Principal Joseph L. Marchese Principal
Dear Parents and Guardians, Welcome back from what I hope was a very enjoyable summer vacation. I am pleased to announce that 264 young Explorers are entering our 9th grade. This is great news, as many private and archdiocesan schools are in an enrollment decline. It’s great to know that La Salle continues to be a very attractive choice in private Catholic education despite a challenging economy. We are truly blessed! If you look on page 2 of the “Calendar and Student Handbook” that was recently mailed to you, you will find three important foundation documents that govern school life at La Salle College High School: The Mission Statement, our Belief Statements, and the Graduate Profile. Please take the time to read and understand these important documents. In particular, I would like to point out the Graduate Profile which calls for the students graduating from La Salle to be: • Men of Intellect and Accomplishment • Men of Faith and Compassion • Men of Service and Justice • Men of Integrity and Respect We, at La Salle College High School, understand that we are in a shared mission with you, our parents, in guiding our young men toward becoming men of these characteristics. It is only with your unwavering support that we can accomplish this task – and we are very thankful for your assistance. I would like to draw your attention to some very important dates in the month of September. On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, we will have Freshman Parent Orientation Night at 7:00 pm in the auditorium. This is an excellent opportunity for parents who are new to La Salle to get answers to common “nuts and bolts” questions. On Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 7:00 pm, we will have our “Back to School Night”. Please take advantage of this opportunity to follow your son’s roster and meet his teachers. You will not only get an overview of each of your son’s courses, but you will also get to hear about each teacher’s expectations and preferred contact information. There are also two special social events for new parents in September. The “Freshman Fathers Welcome Picnic” is on September 16, 2010 at 6:30 pm in the cafeteria and the “New Mothers Tea” on September 26, 2010 at 1:00 pm in the auditorium. These are excellent opportunities to get to know the parents of some of your son’s classmates. Three years ago, La Salle implemented the AlertNow messaging system to inform parents about school emergencies and weather-related delays and closings. Please make sure that the Main Office has your updated contact information (telephone numbers and email addresses). If you are the parent of a returning La Salle student and have changed your contact information, please forward that information as soon as possible to Mrs. Carol Haggerty at haggertyc@lschs.org In addition to this messaging system, the school website, www.lschs.org, contains a wealth of information for both parents and students. You will find useful information like the school calendar, sports schedules, faculty contact information, the Daily Bulletin, the Belcroft, and answers to your FAQ’s. Please make use of this excellent communication tool. I hope that you and your sons are as excited about this new school year as I am. Please know that all here are very grateful that you have entrusted your sons to our care. We will make every effort to give your sons the very best high school experience in the Delaware Valley. Sincerely yours,
Joseph L. Marchese Principal

Office of Academic Affairs Thomas R. Barna Assistant Principal for Academic Affairs
Welcome to a New Academic Year As the hot summer fades, the refreshing academic rhythms of a new school year arrive. The Office of Academic Affairs is proud to offer another exciting year of educational opportunities to all of our students. Academically, this year is expected to be as rewarding as ever. Momentum developed from last year’s success shows no sign of weakening. Guided by our school’s latest reaccreditation, we continue to move toward reaching several lofty goals set by our Lasallian community. As a reminder, these benchmarks are in the specific areas of Lasallian Values, Academic Performance and Initiative, and Communication and Critical Thinking. Expect work to continue this year in these areas. The administration and faculty are confident that the collective effort of our school community, in due time, will develop an even more complete Christian gentleman and college bound learner. Not surprisingly, our most recent academic data continues to suggest that La Salle College High School has much to be proud of.
Academic Adjustments for 2010-11 Curricularly, there are a few changes in our program of studies for 2010-11. One addition includes the offering of yet another Advanced Placement course. AP Psychology (Course No. 628) will be offered beginning this year as a full credit senior elective. The non AP level Psychology elective (Course No. 627) will continue to run as a 0.5 credit course that meets for a semester. AP Computer Science (Course No. 246) will be reinstated after a 1-year hiatus and the result of increased subscription. La Salle has also added two upper-level independent study courses in the area of technology. Web Site Management (Course No. 247) and Multimedia Management (Course No. 284) have been added to La Salle’s preexisting Network Management (Course No. 237) as 1.0 credit electives. On a related note, Digital Multimedia Design has been renamed Multimedia Production (Course No. 280). It will continue as a 0.5 credit course. Offered as a follow-up, a 1.0 credit course named Advanced Multimedia Design (Course No. 282) will also be introduced. Technology courses will continue to be offered in the areas of programming, networking, and application. Our Microsoft certification classes will continue their scheduled rotation. This year, Windows Server 2008 (Course No. 290) will be offered in the first semester. This will be followed by Windows Security 2008 (Course No. 298) during the second half of the year. All course details, as well as academic policies, are outlined in La Salle’s Program of Studies and available through the school’s website under the Academic Life tab. The advanced placement curriculum continues to offer a broad spectrum of opportunities for our students. Although La Salle will continue to offer eighteen Advanced Placement courses, the numbers of students scheduled to participate in AP coursework show yet another increase
this year. As validated by winning the highly selective 2009 Siemens Award for Advanced Placement, our young men continue to perform at the highest level. The beginning of the year is always a good time to remind parents and students of La Salle’s Math Resource and Writing Centers. The popularity of these help centers is high. By design, these learning spaces are for students looking to get extra academic support in the areas of Mathematics and English. After a successful first year, La Salle will also continue to generously staff its World Language Resource Room. These help centers will be open during school hours and staffed by La Salle teachers in these respective areas of study. Last year over 200 students were served in these areas. It is La Salle’s hope that similar rooms in the disciplines of Science and Social Studies will also be made available to students in the near future. Finally, it is always with regret that we are unable to schedule a few courses due to low class size/interest. Placing our teaching resources in areas of need is a realistic dilemma that we encounter annually. We can not always run classes with fewer than ten students. Thank you for your understanding here.
Reintroducing “My Backpack” Beginning last year students had the opportunity to view their grades online. Parents also had access. Results of grading opportunities were posted regularly. By all accounts this real-time information was very well received by all of the school’s constituent groups. Digital gradebooks will continue to be available through the student and parent portals of La Salle’s website. As a parent of an incoming freshman, you should expect to receive information explaining the process and how the system works. Obviously it may take some time for you to become comfortable with this technological tool. Please note that written progress reports are no longer issued at the midway mark of each academic term since access to a teacher’s digital gradebook will provide each family with an ongoing report on progress. Parent-teacher meetings will also evolve as a result of open access grading. A first quarter parent-teacher conference night has been set for Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Meeting with teachers after this date should be done on an as need basis. Grade level counselors and learning specialist can be helpful in coordinating such a meeting.

Information Technology by Michael Fox, MCP, MCTS ’10
When most La Salle students think about summer break, they think of the beach, a pool, or a vacation. For the members of La Salle’s IT Department summer staff, however, the summer means working with servers, upgrading software, and taking on projects which would impress many corporate IT Departments. Like many other departments at La Salle, the last few years of information technology work were primarily based around the construction projects, but with the completion of construction, projects took a different focus this summer. One of our main projects this summer was tightening security on the network. The many additions to our network over the past few years, both with the addition of new servers and infrastructure upgrades, coupled with the time investment in working with the construction created a lot of areas where the team needed to clean up security. In doing this, we undertook projects such as tightening permissions, creating security policies for both users and administrators, as well as securing our wireless network, maintaining guest internet access for student laptops and other devices. As part of ensuring the security of the network, we undertook an independent security audit with IT Solutions, an IT contracting firm. A security specialist from IT Solutions met with the team, discussed the new policies, investigated the security of the servers, checked permissions, and made some recommendations for how to further tighten our security. After we implemented his recommendations, we met with him again and were rewarded with a passing grade. In addition to our security work, a number of other projects were undertaken. The teaching lab was replaced with brand new computers with Core I7 Processors, one of the most powerful desktop processors available. These computers will be used for multimedia classes, where students learn to use Adobe Creative Suite 5, another summer upgrade, as well as where the IT academy classes will be offered.
Another summer project was the upgrading of faculty laptops to Windows 7. When the faculty laptops were issued last summer, Windows 7 had not yet been formally released, and the laptops were running Windows Vista. Because of Lenovo’s thinkvantage software, we had to implement an innovative solution to upgrade the laptops. To make the upgrades work, the team used hard drive duplicators to copy an image of a new laptop onto a blank drive. This was then used to set up the laptop with Windows 7. Other projects included upgrading the Music Department’s Macintosh Lab with new Apple computers, rearranging the servers in the server room, upgrading our virtual hosts, and upgrading to AutoCAD LT 2010 for the CAD classes. Through the course of the summer, the usual assortment of problems also had to be dealt with, including some which required working with technicians from Microsoft, Senior Systems, and other companies, a valuable experience for the team in dealing with outside support. Even as the school year is about to begin, the IT team is wrapping up their projects, putting their efforts towards a better experience for all of the users of La Salle’s technology.

College Interview Day for Seniors
This past summer, members of the College Counseling Department visited college campuses and met with admission officers and attended state and national conferences regarding the college admission process.
Any student planning to meet an early deadline must alert the College Counseling Center as soon as possible. Counselors and teachers need sufficient time to write letters of recommendation to meet those early deadlines.
In order to bring clarity about the college process in general and specifically at La Salle, we encourage you to become familiar with our site on the La Salle College High School website - www.lschs.org/college. The link to Naviance, an important college research tool, can be found on this website.
NCAA Clearinghouse Eligibility
In early September, we will send the parents of seniors information about our “Question and Answer Evening for Parents of Seniors” on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 7:15 pm in the auditorium. In order to facilitate the organization of that evening, a form will be included for you to respond with a list of questions you have about the college process.
Tuesday, October 5, 2010 Admissions officers from approximately sixty colleges will be on campus to conduct interviews with our seniors. Look on our website in September for the list of colleges attending. Feedback from our students and college admission officers clearly indicates the value of this event.
Early Action/Early Decision
Any student interested in playing intercollegiate sports must meet NCAA Clearinghouse standards and file an eligibility form with the NCAA. The academic requirements are listed on the last page of our school calendar as well as on our website. Please become familiar with the information. Building Bridges of Solidarity Bolivia 2010
Life-changing!
After two weeks of service work and meeting new people in different poor areas of the country, with my tripmates , Sra Breen, Mrs. Marchese, and Sra Diccicco, I can safely say that my service in Bolivia was nothing short of “incredible”.
C.J. Burdulis ’12
Incredible! Experiencing an entirely different
culture was pretty amazing experience. I learned two things from this. The first, to be thankful and satisfied for what I have because no matter how bad I may have it, others have it much worse. The second, and most important, is to not only take care of myself, but others as well, especially those who need it. I hope to continue to grow closer to my classmates and continue this lifestyle when I return home. I hope that I never forget this life changing experience and always hold these events close to my heart. Tyler Kern ’12
Great! I don’t think the trip could have gone
better. I was able to help many people, which made me feel very good. I made many new friends in our group and now know all of them well. The culture around us was very interesting. My Spanish skills also improved greatly. I wasn’t sure what would happen in Bolivia before I arrived, but now I am overjoyed that I traveled to there and hope to use what I have learned to continue to improve my life by helping others. Eye opening!
I was enlightened to the poverty of certain areas, but the strength of the people in those areas allows them to enjoy life to its fullest. I have realized that I have nearly limitless opportunities in relation to these people. The joy of the children when they played with us was more rewarding than anything. I will always hold Cochabamba in my memory and hopefully return someday.

Appreciative! I want to thank Sra Breen for giving us this life change opportunity.

Make your expectations clear at the start of the school year. High school matters. The grades your son receives can affect everything from how much you’ll pay for car insurance to whether he can play sports in college. So it’s important to give your son a solid foundation. Research from the Harvard Family Research Project shows that there is one thing every parent can do – expect a lot. When you expect that your son can do well in high school, he picks that up. As a result, he also starts believing that he can do well. That means he spends more time doing homework. The result, of course, is that he does better in school. Here are three things you should do every day: 1. Talk with your son about school. Tell him you want him to do his best each day. Your son may not be at the top of his class, but he can always do his personal best. 2. Talk about next steps. Help him see the link between good grades and success in his future. 3. Emphasize effort. When your son is feeling like he can’t do his math or his English report, encourage him not to quit. Boys need to learn to stick with a tough task even if it’s a bit of a challenge. Attendance is the key to school success. School success is impossible without one factor – attendance. Your son’s attendance is the single most important element for school success, this year and every year. Research shows how important attendance really is. So this year, make attendance your entire family’s priority: • Never let your son stay home to miss a big test or to rest up for a big game. • Don’t use your son as backup child care. Make other plans before your younger children get sick. • Don’t make it a treat to stay home. Any boy who is too sick to go to school is also too sick to watch TV, play video games, or use the computer. • Don’t schedule appointments during school hours. Review your son’s responsibilities and make changes. This September, take some time to review your son’s current responsibilities. Boys can grow up a lot in a year, and it may be time for a change. Think about ideas like these: • Has your son gotten his license over the summer? Maybe he’s ready for the new responsibility of picking up the dry cleaning or running some other errands for you. • Did he manage to keep to his curfew this summer? Maybe you could extend his curfew an extra half hour on Saturday nights.
15 The Belcroft September 2010
• Has he been begging you for a way to “prove” he’s an adult? Give your son sole responsibility for the family pet – feeding it, walking it and even making appointments to see the veterinarian. Boys may seem apathetic sometimes, but that’s just their way of trying to assert their independence and show that they don’t really need their parents. But the vast majority of boys actually want their parents’ approval. Divvying up the household chores shows your son: • That he is an important part of the family. • That you believe he’s capable of completing responsibilities. • That his newfound independence has not gone unnoticed. Updating your son’s responsibilities will show him you are proud of him and will also prepare him for the responsibilities of adulthood. Help your son start the school year with solid study habits. It’s a new year, new teachers – and an opportunity for your son to revamp those old study habits. Try sharing these four tips with your son: 1. Get a planner. The only 100% effective way to remember what you have to do is to write it down. A planner helps you keep track of everything--from what chapter to read and what homework problems to complete, to when the next test is and when your next volleyball game is. That way, you’ll always be prepared and able to avoid those all-nighters. 2. Take notes--in every class. When your teacher is talking, she’s not doing it to waste your time. She’s telling you exactly what you need to know about the subject and what’s going to be on the test. Develop a way of taking notes that works for you--and use it. And if you spend a little time each day reviewing those notes you took in class, you will be better prepared at test time. 3. Think about your study spot. If you do your homework in the same place every day, your body actually gets used to it and it takes you less time to focus once you sit down. A good study spot is quiet, comfortable, welllit and stocked with your study essentials--pens and pencils, paper, reference books, etc. 4. Form a study group. It can help to discuss some subjects with other students. Try to keep your study group small, though--and make sure your friends realize it’s for serious studying, not socializing. Talk with your son about the importance of respect. People assume that boys will be disrespectful, and then – surprise – they often are. Instead of reprimanding your son for being disrespectful, have an open discussion about respect. Try to: • Talk about respect. What does showing respect look like? What words would he use to define respect? How does showing respect in person differ from showing it over the Internet or a text message? Should there be a difference? • Talk about disrespect. How do people show that they disrespect teens? How do teens show that they disrespect others? Has your son ever felt disrespected – by another teen, by another adult, or even by you? How does he think others feel when he disrespects them? • Talk about the importance of showing respect at school. Your son can show respect to the teacher in simple ways – like coming to class prepared and on time. Your son can show respect to his classmates by working quietly. And your son can show respect to the other staff by following school rules and using good manners. By demonstrating respect, your son is more likely to receive it in return. Dear Parents and Guardians,
Christmas Shopping Spectacular Sunday, December 5, 2010 12:00 to 4:00 pm Proceeded by an Advent Liturgy at 11:00 am organized by the Mothers’ Club Alumnae Committee
A heartfelt welcome to those new to the La Salle family, and welcome back to those returning! It is always difficult to say goodbye to summer; fortunately, our La Salle community has much for us to look forward to in a new school year.
Mothers’ Club Alumnae Committee News
I am honored to be writing to you on behalf of the dedicated volunteers comprising your Mothers’ Club Board for the 2010/2011 school year. As a mother or guardian of a La Salle student, you are automatically a member of the Mothers’ Club. Together, we raise funds important to La Salle College High School and sponsor opportunities to grow our sense of community. I invite and encourage you to get involved.
The Mothers’ Club Alumnae Committee welcomes our newest members – the mothers of the Class of 2010 into our ranks. We hope that they, and all mothers of La Salle alumni, will participate as actively as their schedules permit in both Mothers’ Club and Mothers’ Club Alumnae Committee activities. It’s a great way of maintaining the friendships developed with other moms during your sons’ years at La Salle. In addition to a monthly article in The Belcroft, the Alumnae Committee also sends out a monthly e-newsletter to keep mothers of graduates up to date on both Mothers’ Club and Mothers’ Club Alumnae Committee events. Anyone who has not yet received the August Alumnae Committee e-newsletter is asked to e-mail Kathy Caramenico at kcaram@yahoo.com so that their name can be added to the distribution list. All events and activities, including information about Shared Treasures, are also listed in the Mothers’ Club area of the school website, www.lschs.org/mothers
Shared Treasures Our thrift shop will be open on Wednesdays from 10:00 to 3:00 pm beginning on September 8, 2010 as well as on the first Saturday of the month from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm beginning October 2, 2010. Donations of decorative items, small pieces of furniture, and gently used men’s, women’s and children’s clothing are always needed and volunteers are always appreciated. Contact Kathy Caramenico at kcaram@yahoo.com if you need additional information. Please feel free to contact any committee member with your questions, comments, or suggestions. We look forward to seeing you soon.
The Mothers’ Club Alumnae Committee Kathy Caramenico, Donnamaria Dolan, Lynn Gates, Karen Guerra, Pam Grady, Barbara Houldin, Janet McBride, Terry Millet
Participation varies widely, from tapping into your talents, treasures, or contacts to support major fundraisers like our Auction or Fashion Show, to giving of your time to our Mother/Son Service Project. Come develop friendships and have fun with us whenever you can – socializing shopping, or taking in a Broadway show! Included in this issue are details of upcoming events. New moms, we look forward to meeting you shortly at our New Mothers’ Tea, and all families, we look forward to gathering as a community and celebrating Mass at the Fall Family Liturgy. The largest single fundraiser remains our annual auction, which this year features “Bella Luna - An Evening in Tuscany”, and promises to be a night to remember! And we are just getting started! I happily invite you to attend our meetings, urge you to read The Belcroft each month, and/or visit the website (Parent tab) for details of events and volunteer opportunities. We will do our best to update you periodically with Mothers’ Club emails as well. Your son’s high school experience is exciting and full, and the four years go quickly. As roadblocks or praiseworthy events undoubtedly arise for our sons, there’s comfort in the mutual sharing and the relationships we gain through our involvement. Contact me at any time via email scmgillespie@aol.com. I welcome your questions and suggestions. I wish every success for you and your family as we embark on another school year, supporting each other along the journey. Warmest regards,,
Susan Gillespie President Mothers’ Club

New Fathers Welcome Thursday, September 16, 2009 6:30 pm School Cafeteria/”The Pit” The evening will include music by La Salle’s award winning jazz band and welcome remarks from our school administration. This is a great event which will provide an excellent opportunity for a good time, a few laughs, meeting other fathers of incoming and current students, and learning about just one of the ways to become an active participant in your son’s educational experience at La Salle College High School.
Dunleavy Center Available For Rent Having a party or social? Consider renting Dunleavy Center, the historic house located on La Salle’s campus, for your next event. There is ample parking in the lot directly behind the house and the front and side porches make for a wonderful outdoor atmosphere. I would like to welcome you to the 2010–2011 school year. On behalf of the Executive Board of the Men of La Salle, I want to congratulate the new La Salle fathers on joining all the current fathers as Men of La Salle. The primary purpose of our organization is to provide financial assistance to any La Salle student who suffers the unfortunate passing of their principal means of tuition support. Our second important goal is to provide opportunities for fostering the relationship between fathers and sons through service and social activities. Below you will find a list of this year’s major events. I encourage every father to attend our monthly meetings, participate in as many events as possible, and volunteer for one or more events. It is another rewarding way to participate in your son’s life and the La Salle community. I hope you will invite your family and friends to support our boys as well by participating with you in our events and activities throughout the year. The events coming up in the first part of the school year include our first general meeting on September 9, 2010, our New Fathers’ Welcome BBQ on September 16, 2010, the Men of La Salle Golf Outing (18th Annual) on October 12, 2010, and the most popular event of the year – the Father/Son Banquet on November 18, 2010. This year, our Keynote Speaker will be former Eagles All-Pro Strong Safety, Randy Logan. You’ll also want to mark your calendar now for Saturday, November 6, 2010, which is our annual auction held jointly with the Mothers’ Club and a night not to be missed! This year’s theme is Bella Luna! – An Evening in Tuscany. Please stay tuned to the Belcroft for updates throughout the year. Information will also be posted on the LaSalle website www.lschs.org/mol

Men of Accomplishment Tony Resch Coaches Team USA Over Canada
“I had some good talks with coach [Kevin] Baggett,” Mitchell said. “I liked the way he presented the program and the school. And when I talked with some of the players, they were always saying that they liked how things were done and that the coaches keep their word.” Thus, Mitchell, a just-under-6-foot, 175-pound senior point guard at La Salle High, has made an oral commitment to Rider; Baggett is the associate head coach under Tommy Dempsey. No official visit was made, but Mitchell toured the campus and spoke with assorted important folks Monday. “I had an idea [about committing] in my mind even before heading up there,” he said. “It just seemed like everything about it made for the best fit.”
Tony Resch was an Assistant Coach for the US National Team that won gold at the World Lacrosse Championships held in Manchester, UK in July. Team USA rallied to regain the gold medal with a 12-10 win over Canada. Congratulations to Tony and Team USA for representing our country and bring back the championship.
Patrick Eble ’12 Named to U.S. Rowing Junior National Team La Salle College High School Junior Patrick Eble has been named to the 2010 U.S. Rowing Junior National Team. He will represent the United States in the Men s Four with Coxswain (M4+) Crew at the 2010 World Rowing Junior Championships, which will be held August 5-8, 2010 in Racice, Czech Republic. Congratulations Patrick!
Five Wrestlers Selected for All-State Academic Team
Mitchell said he received thirteen offers and that the two that pushed Rider were Niagara and Wagner. “Niagara was too far,” he noted. “Wagner was OK, but I wanted Rider. It’s only about 45 minutes from my house [Mt. Airy] and my family will be able to come support me. It was important to get this done before my senior year, so there wouldn’t be any stress.”
The Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association selected five La Salle wrestlers for the All-State Academic Team: C.J. Burns ’10 Nick Burns ’11 Casey Kent ’12 Shane Springer ‘12 Ryan Geiger ’11

Eddie Mitchell ’11 Commits to Rider University
8 Philadelphia Catholic League Championships Cross Country, Golf, Football, Lacrosse, Swimming, Tennis, Track and Field, Wrestling
by Ted Silary
In selecting to pursue his basketball career at Rider University, Eddie Mitchell ’11 will become the first La Salle Basketball player in over twenty years to play basketball at the Division One level. Even sight unseen, Eddie Mitchell had a strong notion about where he wanted to play his college basketball. Not words unheard, though.
“All the guys like the way the offense is played,” Mitchell said. “You know how school-ball offense can be compared to [the quicker tempo of] AAU ball. Rider likes to let their guys play. You can go up and down. It’s freelance, but in a controlled way.”
