THE SCHOOL Established in 1858, La Salle College High School is a Catholic independent college preparatory school for young men, grades 9-12, of varied backgrounds. La Salle is committed to Christian values, academic excellence, spiritual fulfillment, cultural enrichment, and physical development. In the tradition of the De La Salle Christian Brothers Schools, La Salle empowers students to accept responsibility, achieve their fullest potential and work to build a just society. La Salle is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. La Salle holds memberships in PAIS, ADVIS, CEEB, NACAC, PACAC, and the International Coalition of Boys Schools. THE STUDENTS La Salle students are accepted on the basis of a competitive entrance exam and an admissions portfolio. Students come from more than 171 parochial, private, and public elementary schools from the City of Philadelphia, small towns, suburban communities, and rural areas in the four surrounding counties and the state of New Jersey. Typically 100% of graduates attend college. The Class of 2011 earned over $25.5 million in documented scholarships and grants. ACADEMIC PROGRAM Students must complete 26.5 credits to graduate, including the following requirements: Religion (4), English (4), Mathematics (3), Lab Science (3), Social Studies (3), World Language (3), Physical Education (1), Fine Arts (.5), Computer Education (.5), Health (.5), and Electives (4). By graduation, a significant number of seniors exceed the above requirements. Students carry a minimum of six credits yearly. Students lead multiple independent projects in campus technology as part of La Salle’s Microsoft IT Academy Program. Twenty Advanced Placement courses are offered and honors and advanced courses are available in all major subject areas. Study at local colleges is an option.

La Salle’s strong academic program is enhanced by one of the most sophisticated technological systems available in secondary education today: the first school in the nation to fully implement Microsoft Exchange 2010; completely wireless campus enhanced by Gigabit fiber optic backbone connecting all classrooms and offices; four computer labs with over 150 Nehalen i7 workstations, Windows 7 Desktops, and access to the complete Microsoft Office 2010 Professional Plus Package; TV production and broadcast studio; Multimedia Lab with over eighty workstations; library and media center with capability for thirty-four online reference programs. 70 students have earned an MTA (Microsoft Technology Association) certificate. ACTIVITIES AND ATHLETICS La Salle features twenty eight clubs and student organizations that have earned national, state, regional and local awards, for example, nationally recognized Forensics Team and consistent Superior ratings in Jazz Band regional competitions. Over 50% of the student body actively participates in our extensive sixteen varsity sport program including 39 separate teams. In 2010-2011 La Salle earned four Philadelphia Catholic League Championships, six District 12 Championships, three second place finishes PIAA State Championship as well as Flyers Cup Champions in Hockey. COMMUNITY SERVICE Student participation in community service is voluntary. La Salle sponsors twenty one year-round service projects. 75% of the students participate in extended weekly, seasonal, or summer service programs locally, nationally, and internationally. Fathers of our freshman and sophomore students accompany their sons on a day of service during the school year.
