THE SCHOOL Established in 1858, La Salle College High School is a Catholic, independent, college preparatory school for young men of varied backgrounds, grades 9-12. La Salle is committed to Christian values, academic excellence, spiritual fulfillment, cultural enrichment, and physical development. In the tradition of the De La Salle Christian Brothers Schools, La Salle empowers students to accept responsibility, achieve their fullest potential and work to build a just society. La Salle is a member of a worldwide Lasallian network of schools and colleges. La Salle is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools and the Pennsylvania Department of Education. La Salle holds memberships in PAIS, ADVIS, CEEB, NACAC, PACAC, and the International Coalition of Boys Schools. THE STUDENTS La Salle students are accepted on the basis of a competitive entrance exam and an admissions portfolio. Students come from more than 181 parochial, private, and public elementary schools from the City of Philadelphia, small towns, suburban communities, and rural areas in the four surrounding counties, the state of New Jersey, and international countries. Typically, 100% of graduates attend college. The Class of 2013 earned over $32 million in documented scholarships and grants. ACADEMIC PROGRAM Students must complete 26.5 credits to graduate, including the following requirements: Religion (4), English (4), Mathematics (3), Lab Science (3), Social Studies (3), World Language (3), Physical Education (1), Fine Arts (.5), Computer Education (.5), Health (.5), and Electives (4). By graduation, a significant number of seniors exceed the above requirements. Students carry a minimum of six credits yearly. Students lead multiple independent projects in campus technology as part of La Salle’s Microsoft IT Academy Program. Twenty Advanced Placement courses are offered, and honors and advanced courses are available in all major subject areas. Study at local colleges is an option. TECHNOLOGY La Salle’s strong academic program is enhanced by one of the most sophisticated technological systems available in secondary education today: the first school in the nation to fully implement Microsoft Exchange 2013 in the Cloud; completely wireless campus enhanced by Gigabit fiber optic backbone connecting all classrooms and offices; a dedicated internet circuit that offers students

1000 MB of in and out bandwidth Sandy Bridge Xeon Servers; four computer labs with over 150 Ivy Bridge i7 workstations, Windows 7 Desktops, and access to the complete Microsoft Office 2013 Professional Plus Package; TV production and broadcast studio with editing equipment and operating systems for live programs and taped productions; Multimedia lab with over 80 workstations for student and faculty teaching and production; library and media center with capability for thirty-four online reference programs; computer lab internship for qualified students who have amassed 15 Microsoft certifications; all 57 instructional areas are equipped with a SMARTBoard, HD Projection TV, DVD, and high performance sound system. 93 students received Microsoft Technology Associate Networking certifications during 2012-2013 in what is the only Level One Microsoft IT Academy in Pennsylvania. ACTIVITIES and ATHLETICS La Salle features 50 clubs and student organizations that have earned national, state, regional and local awards. For example, La Salle is nationally recognized as a Debate School of Excellence and Top 5 Program in the Nation by the National Forensics League, consistently wins championships and earns Superior ratings in Jazz Band regional competitions, and the Engineering Club is integral in conducting Renewable Energy Studies including the feasibility of installing wind and solar equipment at La Salle. Over 70% of the students are involved in one or more activities. Over 50% of the student body actively participates in our extensive 18 varsity sport program including 40 separate teams. In 2012-2013 La Salle was the Pennsylvania State Champion in Swimming and Lacrosse. In addition, La Salle earned ten Philadelphia Catholic League Championships, eight District 12 Championships, one Championship of America at the Penn Relays, one Flyers Cup Championship in hockey, as well as Final Four finishes in ten sports. COMMUNITY SERVICE Student participation in community service is voluntary. Students participate in 12 year-round service projects. 77% of the students volunteered in extended weekly, seasonal, or summer service programs. Over 330 students, which represents 42% of the upper classmen, along with 50 faculty members, volunteered on week long service trips locally, nationally, and internationally this past summer. Fathers of our freshman students accompany their sons on a day of service during the school year.

Committed to a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, La Salle also supports students in developing individualized programs of study and provides opportunities to explore subjects of interest at advanced and independent levels. The curriculum is comprised of over 135 courses in nine academic areas and includes twenty AP course offerings. Scheduling constraints may affect the number of AP courses that a student can take. GRADING La Salle does not rank students. The grade distribution chart for junior year courses and the cumulative GPA distribution on the next page provide the context for individual student transcripts.
