“I think the greatest legacy of the Christian Brothers and of the La Salle experience is being able to be an Explorer. It set me up for a lifetime of exploration – a journey that I am still on today. I’m still exploring this world. I’m intellectually curious in trying to figure out how all of these things fit together, but I know that my love of exploration comes directly from the educational experience at La Salle College High School.” LT C R o d e r i c k v o n L i p s e y , U S M C ( R e t . ) ’ 7 6 Director of the National Security Agency

Academic EXCELLENCE
For over 150 years, La Salle College High School has provided a college preparatory education for young men in the Philadelphia area. La Salle students are taught to be critical thinkers who are well prepared academically, able to communicate effectively, and lead confidently. These qualities, combined with the Lasallian commitment to rigorous learning, result in an impressive list of college admissions as well as a significant number of National Merit-recognized students and Advanced Placement Scholars. In fact, La Salle’s number of National Merit Scholars consistently puts it at the top among Catholic and private schools in the Delaware Valley.
“There’s something really crucial about a La Salle education. We set the bar high, judge ourselves by national standards and the highest levels of character. More than that, we seek to create within our community of talented young men active and focused thinkers, doers, and leaders who will challenge a complex and changing world head-on. La Salle students learn how to learn and how to make a difference.” M i c h a e l A . O ’ To o l e ’ 6 8 Principal

Dedicated FAC U LT Y
Within the academic program you will find the collective work of a faculty that is grounded in the mission of Lasallian education, while, at the same time, understanding the rigorous demands of a college preparatory school. Mentors as well as educators, La Salle’s dedicated teachers drive a challenging and innovative curriculum. The faculty and staff look into the core of each young man and listen – using every resource to gain assistance. They affirm and empower young men to discover their God-given potential and realize that life is an amazing journey.
“I am continually impressed with the generosity of my colleagues. Whether they come in early or stay late to meet with students or accompany them on service opportunities, they make their time and talents available to their students and allow our young men to see them as more than “the person on the other side of the desk.” They act, as the Founder stated they should act, “carrying out [the] ministry with love and sincere, true zeal…” G e r a l d R o b e rt Eva n s , J r. With over 60% of the student body participating in an athletic program that features eighteen sports, it is no surprise that La Salle has won over eighty titles in the past decade. La Salle athletes are students first and strive for not only competition, but also respect, teamwork, and community. The leadership instilled in the student athletes by their coaches follows in the footsteps of our Founder, Saint John Baptist de La Salle. From what they learn on the playing field about analyzing problems and having the courage to face them, these young men are able to go out into the world with a sense of responsibility and a well-developed character. “One of my favorite memories at La Salle occurred at a football game and involved a student who was on the team as well a member of the music program. It was just before the start of the game when I watched the young man remove his helmet, sprint towards the sidelines, jump the fence, and join the pep band in the stands. He grabbed a saxophone and proceeded to joined in the playing of the Alma Mater and National Anthem. He put the instrument away and raced down onto the field to be part of the kick-off team. He did it because it was his last home game as a member of both groups. Jo s e ph A . Pa r i s i Athletic Director

La Salle College High School shared a campus with La Salle College until the fall of 1960 when it moved from 20th Street and Olney Avenue to its present campus in Springfield Township, Montgomery County. The school was built on the former Belcroft estate of Clarence E. Brown and with the move, La Salle College High School remained in close proximity to the city, yet with greater space in which to grow and develop.

Three new athletic fields, an environmental study area, and a walking path were developed on 30 acres of adjacent land acquired in 2007 bringing the total campus property to 84 acres. A four-level, 40,000 square foot academic addition that houses classrooms, science labs, a chapel, a campus ministry center, a counseling center, a study commons, and a second technology center opened in the fall of 2008.
First-Class FACILITIES
The 84-acre campus of La Salle College High School provides the finest facilities available in Catholic and private education today. In the last twenty years, the school has added over 100,000 square feet of space dedicated to academics and the arts and has acquired 34 acres of land that have provided six additional athletic fields. All of the classrooms and science labs are new or have been completely renovated and feature SMART Boards along with integrated technology. The campus-wide wireless infrastructure and thirty servers support a network of 1,400 users and over 400 computers.
“My son transferred to La Salle from another private school. I have been very impressed by La Salle’s facilities and the many resources available. From the SMART Board technology to the Microsoft IT Academy and computer labs to the expansive athletic programs and facilities, we feel that our son is in an environment that is helping him to reach his fullest potential academically, athletically, spiritually, and as a young man.” R u s s Na p o l i ta n o Parent of R.J. ’13

Commitment TO SERVICE
La Salle College High School graduates live their faith through their actions, recognize the inter-connectedness of the world, and act on their obligation to remedy injustice. Through its many poignant service programs, La Salle fosters an awareness of local and world communities and the importance of taking responsibilities on both platforms. La Salle students follow the leadership of the Christian Brothers to bring creative and generous responses to the world and become leaders for a future of complex challenges. Whether it is serving a meal to the homeless, tutoring a child, or standing up for life, the voluntary service programs offered at La Salle provide the opportunity to make a difference.
“Service is not required or mandatory at La Salle; yet, there is a service opportunity offered every single day. The students respond because they genuinely want to help. They give back to those in need and, in doing so, receive a unique education that is not possible in the classroom. Denis Harp ’13

Caring COMMUNITY
La Salle College High School is a community whose students are taught to make use of their freedom and overcome prejudices, ready-made ideas, and social pressures. La Salle students are encouraged to listen, seek, understand, trust, love, respect, and contemplate – all in an attempt to develop in the image of God. Parents are encouraged to be active in the school community as well as their son’s education. Students immediately become part of the global network of Lasallian schools conducted by the Christian Brothers and the active network of over 14,000 alumni living in all fifty states and more than forty countries worldwide.
“La Salle has not only helped me mold my son into a fine young man, but also into a wonderful human being. The faculty and staff have inspired my son and been helpful in so many ways that extended well beyond the classroom. The entire learning environment promoted a sense of humanity, compassion, service, integrity, and genuine concern for one’s fellow man.” P a u l l a J o n e s - H aw k i n s Parent of Melvin ’13

Many schools, public and private, faith-based and non-sectarian alike, can boast rigorous academics, competitive athletics, and a varied extracurricular program. What sets La Salle apart is the spirit of community permeating the school. The great Canadian theologian and humanitarian Jean Vanier once observed, “A Christian community should do as Jesus did: propose and not impose. Its attraction must lie in the radiance cast by the love of brothers.” Inspired by the Gospel, John Baptist de La Salle founded a religious community to support each other in the work of educating young men. Over more than three centuries, that distinctive Lasallian spirituality has been adopted by hundreds of thousands of men and women. Such people accept Saint La Salle’s proposal that education should be practical, holistic, broad, and focused on the individual learner’s development of his God-given talents and interests. Following the Founder’s example, La Salle College High School proposes: that teaching and learning takes place in community – a community where our young men regard each other not as rivals but brothers, where teachers are not adversaries, but mentors, guides, and companions. Further, this community does not stop at the end of the driveway but extends into the wider world, especially to those most in need. Thus, from Saint La Salle’s vision there radiates a set of experiences transforming a school into a multi-generational family. B r o t h e r Ja m e s L . B u t l e r, F S C President
