Companies Partner to Launch I-75 Gateway Project
The Interstate-75 / State Route 47 interchange is the primary gateway into the City of Sidney. The City, in cooperation with the Ohio Department of Transportation and local industry partners, developed plans for the beautification of this interchange and surrounding area with the intent of creating an inviting and aesthetically pleasing impression upon those driving into the community. The City received a grant for $25,000 from the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) to purchase plants for the southern, interior quadrants of the I-75/St. Rt. 47 interchange. The grant funded the purchase of planting materials to complete the southeast and southwest quadrants. These areas have been attractively landscaped with trees, shrubs, groundcover, and mulch. Unfortunately, the ODOT grant did not cover the cost of fill dirt and the labor to plant the materials. The City located sources of fill dirt at no charge, and a local corporation generously donated the funds to pay for the labor to plant approximately 3,700 plants. Completion of the interchange project requires landscaping the two northern quadrants of the I-75/St. Rt. 47 interchange in the spring of 2013. The estimated cost of this portion of the project is $40,000. The City received another $25,000 grant for planting materials, but will need to raise $40,000 to pay for delivery and grading of fill dirt and labor to install the planting materials.
