HYDRO: continued... The existing Plant in Sidney currently has 160,000 sq. ft. under roof. The new building addition will add 35,000 sq. ft. and will be completed in July. The additional space will be used to make parts for John Deere as well as allow for better material flow through the Plant. Today, Hydro-Sidney employs 144 full-time Associates plus 75 temporary workers. A decision was recently made to minimize the use of temporary labor and as a result, Hydro will be adding approximately 75 Associates into its full-time workforce. Hydro-Sidney continues to grow its business as it moves towards complex, high value-add machining and fabrication. As the automotive industry begins to embrace aluminum, Hydro is poised to take advantage of its competencies, cash position, and proximity to the OEM’s. Hydro-Sidney foresees many years of continued performance and development.

A&B Printing Expands Facility, Equipment and Workforce A&B Printing in Fort Loramie recently completed an 8,000 square foot addition to their facility, doubling the size of their plant. Significant investments in new, state of the art printing and binding equipment now enable the company to better serve the needs of its expanding customer base. According to owner Jim Sharp, A&B Printing has increased sales volume six fold in the last 14 years. This success he attributes exclusively to the high quality of their workforce. Sharp is quick to credit all 40 of his current team members for the company’s impressive growth, but in particular he credits a core group of individuals who have been with the company since its inception 25 years ago. Sharp is proud of the fact that no grants or economic incentives were used with his facility and equipment expansion. “We want to support our local community, our local schools, and the village”, says Sharp. “Tax breaks are nice, but they can diminish the available operating funds for our schools”.

A&B Printing serves direct and third party accounts on a regional and national scale. As a full service, full color, commercial printer, A&B Printing offers a complete range of services from typesetting through printing and collating to binding and shrink wrapping. According to Sharp, “Our goal is simple. We want to one day soon outgrow our new space and add again to our equipment line”.

New Outdoor Adventure at Brookside Park The City of Sidney recently acquired Camp Brookside (former Girl Scout camp) from the Community Foundation of Shelby County. It was a perfect fit since it is adjacent to Tawawa Park. The 30 acre addition to Tawawa will be preserved as a natural area, adding approximately 1.5 miles of biking/ walking trails to the City’s system. There are two overlooks built along the trail system. One with a view of the valley around Tawawa Creek to the north and the other above the “cut” that was dug in order for the Big 4 Railroad to traverse through Sidney. The main entrance in Tawawa Park (known as Whipp Road) was formerly the railroad path. The rails were abandoned upon the construction of the Big 4 Bridge on the south end of town. Park users will now have a nature area unlike any other areas in the City’s park system. Large elevation changes, meadows, and old wood forests can be SHELBYSizzles

enjoyed by all for exercising or to observe nature under one of the five shelters in this section of Tawawa Park. This location was used by the National Guard as a WWII firing range and training camp. The remnants of the old firing range are still visible. Access will be maintained to this feature via an asphalt trail, with a historical sign commemorating this piece of history.
