Precision Details Inc. Expands Recently, Precision Details Inc. purchased the former LACAL building in Jackson Center. Currently located in a 4,800 square foot facility near Russia, their new location will offer 30,000 square feet. The move and expansion is needed to meet the continually increasing demand from the tool and die industry. Rather than add onto the current building, the company decided to move into a larger facility. Owner Jeff Winemiller says, “We are small enough to respond quickly to customer needs, yet we have the ability to meet larger job requirements as well. This building fits our present and future needs for space and will allow us to make a seamless transition for our customers.” Winemiller plans to hire five new employees to the existing workforce of twelve. In addition, he hopes to expand employment to 50 within the next five to seven years. The company expects to complete relocation by June 1.

Through this program, customers from not only the FDL sales region, but all across the country, will attend specialized, hands-on training at the company. Customer training continues to be an important aspect of the total services offered by FDL. The company also plans to make the customer and training center available for use by local civic organizations. Locally owned by Gary Heitmeyer and Rick Brooks, FDL Automation & Supply is a full-service electrical distributor serving west central Ohio, selling electrical equipment to the contractor, original equipment manufacturer, and the industrial market. The company was founded in 1981.

May was a busy month for FDL Automation & Supply, as the company completed the move to their new headquarters at 301 South Stolle Avenue, Sidney. Planning for the new facility began over two years ago, and ground was broken in April 2012. The company invested over $2 million in design and construction of the facility that is at the forefront of technology. The building encompasses 24,000 square feet and includes a large office and warehouse, which provide an additional 25% of space over their former location of 32 years on Vandemark Road. An extensive customer center incorporates a large, state-of-the art training and education center, automation lab and expansive counter sales and product display showroom.

The location will also allow for future company growth and expansion. The office area utilizes cutting edge energy efficient LED lighting and controls – 70% of the space features this technology, using half the energy of traditional fluorescent and incandescent lighting. The warehouse is arranged for maximum efficiency, and also incorporates the latest in energy saving lighting technology. The company has also invested in an upgraded business system that integrates with a VOIP state-of-the-art telecommunications system. The expansive customer and training center enables the company to expand its open enrollment program with supplier Rockwell Automation.

Formed Fiber Technologies Modifies Plant to Add New Equipment Formed Fiber Technologies, Inc. is North America’s largest and most innovative manufacturer of needle punched, non-woven fabrics and polyester staple fibers. In addition, FFT is the only auto supply company that is vertically integrated from fiber to fabric to finished part. Each product manufactured is custom designed for its intended use. FFT supplies premium quality sheets, roll goods, and custom thermoformed products to original equipment manufacturers and converters primarily in the automotive industry. Its Sidney facilities are located on Ferguson Court and Stolle Avenue.

ShelbyCountyFocus.com, a new “buy and sell local” website was recently launched by County Focus Group, LLC, operated by a group of lifelong county residents, including Kevin Behr, Chad Stewart, and Linda and Dave DeVelvis. This new site was developed to satisfy a request by local West Ohio Development director, Michael Dodds. Dodds had approached the group after receiving numerous requests from local business owners for a website where businesses could promote the many goods and services produced locally.

Formed Fiber, in November 2013, contracted with Ferguson Construction to modify its plant in order to add new production equipment. The scope of work consists of concrete, mechanical, electrical, and industrial process piping. The first phase was completed in April 2013, with the installation of their first pinette (industrial press), used for forming materials for GM vehicles. Two more pinettes are expected to be installed and fully operational by the end of September. Job creation associated with the installation of these three machines will result in approximately 70 new positions.

A Bright Future Ahead for Sidney’s Historic Theatre The bright lights on the marquee of the Historic Sidney Theatre have been a fixture in Shelby County for decades. When CB DeWeese built this theatre in 1921, silent films and vaudeville were all the rage. Always meant to be both a performance stage and a movie house, live performances were held into the 1960’s. In the mid 1970’s the balcony was remodeled to make the Theatre a triplex and showed movies until it closed in 2004. Recognizing the importance the theatre had to the community, it was purchased by Raise the Roof for the Arts (RTR), a charitable organization to renovate and operate it for the benefit of the community. RTR kicked off the Campaign for the Restoration, Preservation and Utilization of the Historic Sidney Theatre (HST) in September 2012 with a lead gift of $300,000 from Emerson Climate Technologies. Today the marquee is lit again as local performing groups use the space for events. In 2012 there were: 14 events, 6 productions, 17 performances, 171+ rehearsal days with 6,000+ users, 300+ local performers & volunteers involved and 4,820+ audience served. The 2013 summer series will be just as eventful with upcoming performances by Nelly’s Echo on June 8th, the feature film “Jimmy” on June 21st, and the hot country trio straight from Nashville, Scarletta on July 27th. For more information about our campaign, upcoming events, share a memory or volunteering to be part of the fun please contact Sarah Barr at 937.498.1921, office@sidneytheatre.com.

Group Launches New Shelby County Focus Business / Community Website

After discussing the project with other local community leaders it was decided there was a need for a “community” website, where businesses and other organizations, including churches, clubs and social service organizations, could post community events and local restaurants, taverns and retail stores could distribute discount coupons. Behr explains, “We were amazed at the number of small businesses and organizations based in Shelby County. This site gives them a cost-effective

way to locally promote their goods and services. With subscription levels of $30, $60 or $160/year, we believe the site is affordable for all Shelby County businesses and organizations.” This site is dedicated to focusing only on businesses and organizations physically located in Shelby County. DeVelvis adds, “We saw the potential of this project right from

the start. We believe we have only touched the surface of what this site could be down the road for the community. We already have many ideas for new features to add in the future.” You are invited to visit the new website www.ShelbyCountyFocus.com and “Join the Focus!” Feel free to contact Chad, Kevin, Linda or Dave with questions.

Popular Restaurant at Lake Loramie to Reopen Under New Name and Ownership

Located across from Lake Loramie campground, Mauri’s Landing was originally established in the 1950s as a restaurant. Following its closing, the property was converted into a home. Fort Loramie resident Martha Holscher purchased the property in late 2012 and is in the process of converting it back into a multifaceted business that will feature a restaurant, banquet room, game room, accommodations for overnight guests, bait shop, and boat rental. Future expansion plans include adding a shelter house and boat storage.

The specialties of the house at Morrie’s will be pork tenderloin, fried chicken, pork chops, ribeye steaks, soups, salads, homemade lunch specials and desserts. A 1:00 a.m. liquor license has been secured for after-hours guests. In an adjacent building on the property, Morrie’s will offer pizza and hand dipped ice cream. A staff of 10 to 20 people will be retained at the new peop business, which is expected to open this summer.

Holscher, no stranger to the hospitality business, also owns and operates the Dairy King and Motel in Fort Loramie. Martha is renaming her new business Morrie’s Landing. Morrie’s will offer a casual “Jimmy Buffet” style atmosphere and hours of operation beginning at 6:00 a.m. as a service to local fisherman and hunters.
