SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET
A CULTURAL CONNECTIONS EVENING!
NOV. 5 - 7 AT 7:30 P.M. NOV. 8 AT 3:00 P.M. PRESENTED BY LSU OPERA • SHAVER THEATRE MUSIC & LYRICS BY STEPHEN SONDHEIM • BOOK BY HUGH WHEELER • FROM AN ADAPTATION BY CHRISTOPHER BOND
Sometimes a shave can be too close for comfort! An operatic version of the Broadway hit Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street provides a chilling LSU Fall season opener. Unjustly sent to prison, a man vows revenge, not only for his jail punishment, but also for what happened to his wife and daughter. When he reopens his barber shop, he becomes Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, who “shaved the faces of gentlemen who never thereafter were heard of again.” Sweeney’s amorous accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, creates diabolical meat pies with unusual ingredients from Sweeney Todd’s diabolical client interactions.
THE MIKADO
NOV. 21 AT 7:30 P.M. NOV. 22 AT 3:00 P.M. PRESENTED BY LSU OPERA • SHAVER THEATRE COMPOSED BY W.S. GILBERT AND ARTHUR SULLIVAN
Love can be complicated! The Mikado is the most popular opera ever written. Delighting audiences for over 100 years, it is a comic opera, with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. Opening in 1885 at London’s Savoy Theatre, The Mikado ran for a historic 672 performances. The opera focuses on Nanki-Poo, son of the Mikado of Japan, who flees his father’s imperial court to escape marriage with Katisha, an elderly lady. Disguised as a traveling musician, he meets and falls in love with Yum-Yum, the young ward of Ko-Ko, a tailor in Titipu. Yum-Yum, however, is already betrothed to her guardian. In desperate love, what must Nanki-Poo do?

GOOD KIDS
BY AYAD AKHTAR DIRECTED BY FEMI EUBA
BY NAOMI IIZUKA DIRECTED BY RICHARD HOLDEN
Winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize and a 2015 Tony award nominee, Disgraced is a play not to miss! Corporate lawyer Amir Kapoor is happy, in love, and about to land the biggest career promotion of his life. When Amir and his artist wife, Emily, host an intimate dinner party at their NYC apartment, a friendly conversation soon escalates, proving that success has a price.
Something happened to Chloe after that party last Saturday night. Something she says she can’t remember. Something everybody at school is talking about. Was she sexually assaulted? Did she ask for it? How could those boys do that to her? Or did they? Set in a high school in the American Midwest in a world of Facebook and Twitter, smart phones and YouTube, Good Kids explores a casual sexual encounter gone wrong and its very public aftermath.
