Wayde Simms '16

UHS Athletics retired 2016 alumnus Wayde Sims’ #44 jersey following the Cubs home game Nov. 29. Members of Sims’ family, UHS teammates and LSU teammates were on hand to represent the beloved player who passed away in October. “Wayde was a great basketball player and a wonderful person with a fantastic spirit who was loved by so many... we are heart broken by this loss, but we will remember him fondly and carry on his spirit,” noted UHS Boys Basketball Head Coach Joe Spencer.

Whitney Dufrene '08

Whitney Dufrene ’08, a company member of Doug Varone and Dancers, recently performed on Broadway in a production featuring several Tony Award winners and nominees. Whitney has been pursuing her dancing dreams in New York City for more than three years.

Dr. Jonathan Roberts '81

Dr. Jonathan Roberts ’81, a local internist in Baton Rouge, was appointed to the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Governance Board effective July 1, 2019. His primary role will be assisting with developing policies and procedures for certifying internists and sub-specialists in internal medicine.

Henry Kantrow '17

Henry Kantrow ’17 was recently featured by the International Baccalaureate Organization's blog about how he earned his IB diploma while balancing his commitment to music. Henry now attends LSU and is pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering.

Georgia Tsolakis '17

Georgia Tsolakis ’17, a sophomore technical theatre major at LSU, spent a month in Edinburgh, Scotland, working as principal stage manager for a performance piece, "Dream Logos," that was showcased at Fringe Festival, the largest arts festival in the world. Most recently, she cowrote and helped produce a short film that won first place at LSU’s annual “Horribly Short Film Festival.” In the fall, Georgia will participate in a National Student Exchange at Queens College in New York, taking classes as well as interning at a theatre in Manhattan.

Amy Groves Lowe '88

Amy Groves Lowe ’88 was recently named an Alumna of Distinction for the University Laboratory School at the LSU College of Human Sciences & Education Hall of Distinction Awards Ceremony in March.

John Everett '87

John Everett ’87 has been named executive vice president and president of the Baton Rouge Market by IberiaBank. A veteran of the local banking industry, John began his career with First Commerce Corporation in New Orleans and later served as vice president of commercial lending with Whitney Bank in Baton Rouge. He joined IberiaBank in 2008 and prior to his new role in the organization served as senior vice president and commercial group manager in Baton Rouge.

Nick Brossette '15

Nick Brossette '15 recently signed with the National Football League as a free agent with the New England Patriots. As a senior at UHS, Brossette was a four-star recruit and a top-15 running back prospect nationally. He ran for more than 2,000 yards as a junior and senior for the Cubs and set a Louisiana record with 141 touchdowns in his five years on the varsity team. (He started on the varsity team as an eighthgrader). He signed with the LSU Tigers and continued to advance his passion for football. His patience paid off in his senior year when Brossette led the Tigers with 1,039 yards and 14 touchdowns on 240 carries.

Garrett Brumfield '14

The Cubs will be cheering on the newest Steeler on Sunday nights. Garrett Brumfield '14 has signed as a free agent for the Pittsburgh Steelers. During his time at UHS, Brumfield was a force to be reckoned with. As a leading senior presence for the Cubs, Brumfield anchored the offensive line and finished the season with a 13-1 record. He went on to be a four-star prospect and was named the number one offensive guard in the country. Brumfield signed with his hometown LSU Tigers and began his journey at LSU as a redshirt freshman in the 2015 season. In his junior year, he was named second-team All-SEC as voted by coaches.

Abby Caffey '15

Abby Caffey ’15 was recently awarded a Discover grant from LSU to research the effects of concussions. Abby is studying Kinesiology and recently presented her research project at LSU Discover Day in April. Abby became interested in the brain after she was diagnosed with a rare chronic pain disorder at 16 years old.

Sara Exner Whittaker '00

Sara Exner Whittaker ’00 was recently promoted to assistant vice president of communications and marketing with the LSU Foundation. Sara has played a vital role in crafting the LSU Foundation’s brand since she was hired in June 2010, and her leadership has resulted in several key accomplishments, including developing the newly launched Fierce for the Future Campaign brand.

Connor Miller '11

Connor Miller ’11 married Shelby Quirk on Saturday, December 22, 2018 in Baton Rouge. They reside in Baton Rouge where Shelby is a kindergarten teacher at St. James Episcopal Day School and Connor is an operations coordinator for Star Service, Inc.

Warren Drake '69

Warren Drake ’69 was recently named Superintendent of the Year by Magnet Schools of America, the national association for magnet schools. MSA selects the superintendent of the year based upon the nominee’s leadership and work to develop and support magnet schools and programs.

Caroline Sexton Batsche '08

Caroline Sexton Batsche ’08 and husband Michael welcomed Charles Daniel Batsche on January 18, 2019 weighing 8 lbs 8 ounces, 21 inches long. Charles joins big sister MaryMichael (3 years old). Michael is in his eighth year as project manager with Buquet & LeBlanc, Inc. Caroline will be joining Catholic High School this fall as the junior class counselor and co-moderator of the St. Joseph Academy’s Bruinettes.

Katherine "Coco" Keller Marcel '09

Katherine “Coco” Keller Marcel ’09 and husband Ryan welcomed baby Keller Marie Marcel on February 2, 2019. Both physicians, Coco and Ryan recently moved back to Baton Rouge where Coco will practice medicine at the Baton Rouge Clinic, and Ryan will practice at Our Lady of the Lake and Ochsner.

Charles Gladney '11 and Maggie LeBlanc Gladney '10

Charles Gladney ’11 and Maggie LeBlanc ’10 were married on November 10, 2018. The couple resides in Baton Rouge where Charles is a developer for Southland Trace and Maggie is the marketing director for Geaux Logo Promotions.

Jordan Piazza '06 and Jordan Emmerson Piazza '13

Jordan Piazza ’06 and Jordan Emmerson ’13 were married on May 4, 2019. Piazza is co-owner of Phil’s Oyster Bar & Seafood Restaurant. Emmerson, a jewelry designer, owns Emmerson Designs.
