Lieutenant Governor’s Message

Hello Division 14 Key Club,

It’s Mid Summer and I am sure you all are having a blast. The last thing many of you want to think about is school or anything related. Just because it’s summer doesn't mean Key Club has to come to an end. I think this article from International in 2012 is still a great reminder of all the service that can happen over the summer months http://keyclub.org/discover/kcm/March2012mag/serviceinthesun.aspx . With School starting up in the fall look for more information about our Fall Divisional and Fall Rally. In this newsletter you can find a ton of information ranging from Paperwork, the Thirst Project, and Upcoming Events. I hope to see all of you soon! Yours in service, Chloe Peer Division 14 Lieutenant Governor

The Thirst Project

The Thirst project has recently been adopted by International but previously as many of you know was our 2014-2015 Governor's Project. The Thirst Project is a nonprofit organization that travels across the United States and speaks at schools to educate students about the global water crisis. Its movement, fueled by high school and college students, builds freshwater wells in developing nations and impoverished communities to provide people with safe, clean water. In just five years, The Thirst Project has worked with more than 300,000 students on 320 campuses across the United States to raise US$6 million. That six million dollars has given more than 250,000 people in 11 countries safe, clean water. The Thirst Project was voted to this years District Project by the whole New York District

Governor's Project

The Governor’s Project this year is Hunger. Did you know that 795 million people do not have enough food to live healthy active lives? Or that nearly half of deaths of children under five comes from poor nutrition. The hunger crisis is a worldwide problem and this does not exclude The United States of America. In 2013 14% of American households were food insecure, that is 1 out of 7 people. Now it is our turn to try to help this world wide crisis. You can help in so many different ways; whether it’s donating to your local food drive, fundraising for charities, or spreading awareness; really the ball is in your park. Think about all you can do to help aid our world's hunger

Eliminate

Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus claims the lives of 60,000 innocent babies and mothers a year. Tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. Kiwanis has teamed up with Unicef to try to eliminate this deadly disease from the world. Kiwanis hopes to raise enough money to buy vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more to vaccinate against this horrid disease. It only cost $1.80 to protect a mother and her child against this disease. It will take US$110 million along with the work every member of the Kiwanis family including you and I. By eliminating this disease we are creating a bright future for many who would otherwise not have one. Check out this Video from our own New York Governor Hannah Nichols https:
