Volume 10
December, 2014
. Sorors, It seems unbelievable that almost a year of my administration has passed. I think we have had a successful year. Thanks for your help and support. Our membership is up, our activities are flourishing and Sorors from diverse backgrounds are leading and participating as officers and on committees. We have officers and committee chairmen who run the gamut of golden to newer initiate. Partly due to our newly initiated Boot Camp Workshop, the number of Sorors running for office is increasing. Technology use has increased with the use of online registration and profile updating. Due to our extensive participation, we as a chapter were a big part of the success of 2014’s CRC. We have successfully updated LTO and TPF Bylaws which will help or organization. Scholarship winners and chapter members were saluted at our June Luncheon. We recently hosted a very successful December Luncheon where our community partners were recognized. As we enter 2015 there is still much to be done. We will continue to prepare leaders for our chapter. Specialized committees will research outside funding to help us finance our Program Targets. Thanks for your sisterliness in 2014 and I hope to have your continued Support in 2015. I am honored to serve you.

Greetings from your Anti-Basileus…Barbara Pearson-McCreary
This has been a rewarding year in my leadership journey and I am thankful to each of you for sharing in this journey. Words cannot capture my feelings on Saturday, November 9, 2013, when the voting results were announced and I was elected Anti-Basileus of Lambda Tau Omega Chapter for 2014-2015. I was overwhelmed with joy as I thought…”what have I gotten myself into.” At the same time, I realized that I realized that I had been preparing for that moment for many years. How was I preparing…through attending workshops… Cluster Retreats, Central Regional Conferences, Boule, International Leadership Seminars, Chapter Leadership Workshops, studying chapter by-laws and national documents, etc. In addition, as a pastor’s wife for the past 34.5 years, I have learned to maintain focus on the mission and to love even when it appears difficult, for “God so loved the world that he gave…..” I have made every effort to live up to the standards established for our Sorority by understanding the requirements and responsibilities of my office and working within that framework to “foster Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority’s ideals and principles.” My sincere thanks to each of you for helping me become a better leader than I was at the beginning of this year. I thank you for teaching me: to exhibit flexibility, to obtain results by overcoming barriers to effectiveness, to deal with problems and concerns effectively, to communicate more effectively, to focus on the big picture, to know what needs to be done and accurately anticipate consequences and lastly to pursue objectives with passion and optimism, and attract others to the cause.* (*Paraphrased from So Now You’re Elected). As I continue this journey, I look forward to continuing to serve and live up to the ideals of our sisterhood and most importantly, to live a life that is pleasing in the sight of God. Again, my sincere thanks to each of you.
Tamiouchos’ Tips Hi Sorors,
As we close out the 2014 year, we want to remind you of the following:
Alpha Kappa Alpha membership ends on December 31st, except for life members. Be sure that your dues have been paid prior to this date. 2015 per capita will be submitted to Corporate Office upon verification that all TPF obligations have been met. At the end of the year, the budget reverts to zero. Make sure that your reimbursement requests have been submitted. Reimbursement requests must not exceed budgeted allocations.
Remember – All Business Is To Be Completed By The Conclusion Of Each Meeting.

Economics Committee Sparks Financial Minds of Strands of Pearls Mentoring Group By Soror Donna Fowler-Canty, Economics Committee
Sorors Renee and Melody
On October 26, 2014 the Economics Committee conducted a financial planning workshop at the Flossmoor Library. The Economics Chairman, Soror Renee Collins, CFP(R), CPA, MSA, MST, served as the facilitator. The workshop used helpful information from the Junior Achievement program which uses everyday activities to inspire students to manage their money. One of the exercises included a Community Game where each Strands of Pearls participant was given a Personal Bank Account Register to manage deposits and withdrawals. Members of the Strands of Pearls Committee: Soror Melody Ferguson, Chairman, Soror Alice Tittle, Soror Ericka Leonard-Whorton, and Soror Patricia O’Neal, as well as the Program Chairperson, Soror Barbara McCreary, MD and Economics Committee Member Soror Patricia Parrish, assisted the “Strands” in understanding how this exercise can be used to track their money from saving their allowances to buying clothes, iTunes, movie tickets and more. The collaboration of the two committees successfully educated the young minds of eleven young ladies with financial literacy skills that they can use throughout life. These young leaders were encouraged to think big and to strive for excellence.

The Global Poverty Committee recently donated $350.00 to support the mission of Matanya’s Hope. This donation will be used to purchase a Rain Water Tank (3200 liter) to support the community of Kenya. Initiative III’s missions are aligned with Matanya’s Hope in that we support communities here and abroad to increase the standard of living for all those we serve. Ms. Stark, director, is pictured with chapter members.
The Standards Committee recognized several Sorors at our December meeting. These Sorors were officers or chairmen who are doing an outstanding job with their given tasks. Congratulations to award recipients:

2014 This Christmas end a quarrel. Seek out a forgotten friend. Dismiss suspicion, and replace it with trust. Write a love letter. Share some treasure. Give a soft answer. Keep a promise. Find the time. Forgo a grudge. Forgive an enemy. Listen. Apologize if you were wrong. Try to understand. Examine your demands on others. Think first of someone else. Be kind; be gentle. Appreciate. Laugh a little. Laugh a little more. Express your gratitude. Gladden the heart of a child. Welcome a Soror. Take pleasure in the beauty and the wonder of earth. Speak your love; speak it again, speak it yet once again
