A MESSAGE FROM YOUR DNE Happy New Year Huskeys! With a new year comes new you with new opportunities. I know I’ve already set my New Year’s Resolution! Also, if you read this newsletter on the day it came out, Donald Trump was inaugurated into the presidential office. For pretty much all of my conscious life, Former President Obama was the image that popped into my head when you say “president” so it feels so weird to have to switch it. It’s definitely going to take some getting used to. Your DNE, Lucas
A MESSAGE FROM YOUR LTG Happy New Years! Today marks the beginning of a fresh new start. Every school should be well adjusted and be ready to prepare for important events throughout the next few months! This month is primarily focused in DCON Fundraising, club election preparations, and also Kiwanis Family bonding! I encourage each member to stay focused this month (whether it may be planning events, keeping social media active, or reminding your members in general meetings) because it is crucial to leave a well lasting impression to the community you serve. Your preparation and stillness as Key Club members of CNH hold significance to the Huskey Ohana. Please continue to leave a legacy amongst Division 36 West, and to your future successors in your high school. Love, Shomari Sterling
DISTRICT UPDATES DISTRICT CONVENTION (DCON) Are you ready to celebrate the last CNH "kick-off-get-together" of this school year? Are you ready to enjoy the delicious food/beverages, immerse yourself even more of Key Club, and take back new ideas for your club? Well.. say no more! The 71st Annual District Convention is coming your way! At District Convention, district officers are elected, club officers are trained(as well as members), and individual clubs are awarded for their dedication to service. With exactly 88 days, 17 hours, 35 mins, and 22 seconds left, we will all be "simping" yet cherishing all the memorable moments we had together as a California-Nevada-Hawaii District. *PLEASE START LOOKING AT: preparation guides, sponsors, chaperones, transportation, school policy, fundraising ideas, field trip forms, and the online excel club registration. *Please plan proactively for yourself and members that are interest on attending.
DISTRICT UPDATES CONT. You should definitely consider attending DCON if you want to learn more in-depth about Key Club. DCON is very enriching and immersive experience and I definitely recommend going if you are truly passionate about your time here at Key Club.
Go to page 12 for event details, or visit https://goo.gl/zYnb7X for in-depth preparation details
INTERNATIONAL UPDATES CNH Foundation Scholarships: The CNH Foundation allocates about $75,000-$110,000 in scholarship money for Service Leadership Program clubs each year.
This is possible through the dues that members pay for their membership during the term. Many of these scholarships go for about $500-$2000 and all applicants are considered for the Loretta Barksdale McElwain Scholarship, which merits one Key Clubber of a scholarship with a maximum of $20,000! The application can be found through the CNH CyberKey under Resources, Kiwanis Family and Foundation, then Scholarships. Scholarships are due Monday, February 13th, 2017. For more information, visit http://cnhkeyclub.org/resources/kiwanis-familyfoundation/cnhfoundation
DIVISION UPDATES YOUR NEW LTG
Congratulations to Kaylyn Hoy for winning Conclave and becoming Division 36 West’s LTG for the 2017 to 2018 Key Club year! Here’s a message from Kaylyn: “Hello, Huskeys! My name is Kaylyn Hoy and I am your Lieutenant Governor Elect for the 2017-2018 term! I am so excited to meet each and every one of you throughout my term. Thank you to all of those who have supported me throughout my candidacy. And above all, Thank you to my fellow Huskeys for putting your faith in me to lead this division. I can't wait to jump into service, and I'll see you at District Convention!“ A big thank you for all who attended and also good job to every LTG candidate for your dedication to Key Club.
SPOTLIGHT ON SERVICE ANNUAL ROSE FLOAT DECORATION On December 10th, FUSD Key Clubs had its yearly Rose Float decorating event for the January 2nd Rose Parade. We spend a collective 3 hours painting the float and our labors paid off watching at the 129th Rose Parade in Pasadena, knowing the millions of Americans out there watching can see the pride of Key Club!
CLUB UPDATES NEW OFFICER TERM The new year is approaching and we officially have 3 months left till the end of our term together! In January clubs will need to start deciding club election dates and familiarizing themselves about the club elections manual. Club elections need to be held between February May. In January, I recommend all officers to create a list of tips, tricks, and successful events/ideas to pass on to your successors this year! Please remember to plan proactively and check in with your Division 36 West Lieutenant Governor for elections dates.
