Flying fish This pelican is very hungry. It likes big fish. But the fish in its bill* is very small! Pelicans are among*

the largest* birds in the world. They have long bills* and a pouch* of skin on their throats*. The pouch* helps* them to take* fish from the water. Pelicans fly very well and they can soar* like* eagles*. They are* found on every continent, except for Antarctica, but they prefer warmer* climates. So* they are more common in tropical and temperate* zones.

So* remember to eat the peel*! But don’t eat the pips* – they contain a* bit of poison*! However*, don’t* worry too* much about this: you need* to eat lots* and lots of pips* before* you start to feel* ill!

Look at the whiteboard.

Raise your hand if you have a question!

Here the teacher tells the students to “take out” their pens and pencils. When they nish using them, the teacher would tell the students to “put them away”.

The word “sharpener” only has two syllables when we say it: /ʃɑːpnə/! (The symbol ʃ is pronounced “sh”.)

Look at the globe.

It’s break time!

Can you see the UK?

7

You can go out to the playground!

The United Kingdom (UK) is formed by the countries of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Now it’s “break time” but when school ends in the afternoon, then it’s “home time”!

Hi! My name is Leire and I’m 11 years old. I now live in Torrelodones (Madrid), but I lived in Salzburg (Austria) for six years, so I can speak German very well. I love painting and horse riding. I also like playing the piano. I have an elder brother: Álvaro. He likes football and video games. I discovered I Love English Junior recently through my aunt, Gema, and I had a lot of fun reading the magazine. Thanks a lot!

Hello! My name is Guillermo. I am 10 years old. I live in Móstoles (Madrid). I have got a little brother called Tadeo. He is 8 years old. We go to the same school. I was a Harry Potter fan. I love reading. I also play the guitar. I am quite good at Maths too. I love “Junior detective” mysteries. It’s my favourite section of the magazine! Bye!

Hi, everybody! I am Diego. I am 9 years old. My brother Hugo is two years younger than me. We live in Granada, located in the South of Spain. I am learning how to ski because there is a beautiful ski resort in my town. I go to theater classes too. I enjoy them very much. I also have a lot of fun with the “DIY” section (“Let’s do it!”) of I Love English Junior. Not only me, but my parents learn with the magazine too. Thanks and lots of hugs.
