Studying at WUT Universitatea de Vest din Timi oara (UVT) I West University of Timi oara (WUT) is the main higher education institution and research pole in Western Romania. The Education System in Romania According to the Bologna Process, the higher education system is divided into the following study levels: Undergraduate: 3 years Master: 1/2 years PhD: 3 years Exceptions: Undergraduate specializations of 4 years: Musical Interpretation Law Theology Grading system and ECTS
Grades are awarded on a ten-level scale, from 1 (minimum) to 10 (maximum), the minimal passing grade being 5. The European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) is used since 1999, in order to provide common procedures to guarantee academic recognition of studies taken abroad. It provides a way of assessing and comparing learning achievements, and transferring them from one institution to another.
Studying at WUT The Structure of the Academic Year The academic year consists of two semesters: The autumn semester usually runs from the beginning of October to the end of January. The spring semester starts in mid February and lasts until the end of June. Each semester finishes with its own session of exams, each lasting for about three-four weeks. There is also a two-week Christmas holiday, one-week intersemestrial holiday, and the two-month summer holiday.
E.U. Citizens Candidates who graduated high-school or a bachelor/master study programme in a European country, other than Romania, must have their study documents recognized and validated by the Romanian National Centre for the Recognition and Validation of Diplomas (C.N.R.E.D.), part of the Romanian Ministry of Education and Scientific Research (M.E.C.S.). According to the national Law 316/12.07.2006, citizens from member states of the European Union, European Economic Area and Swiss Confederation, have the right to apply to studies in Romania, in the same financial circumstances as Romanian citizens. The procedure for the validation and equivalence of diplomas must be done with the help of the Department of the lnternationaI Relations, at W.U.T. The documents that have to be validated by the C.N.R.E.D. can be sent to the International Office, that will submit afterwards the documents to the C.N.R.E.D. After receiving the Certificate for the Recognition of studies, the candidates will be able to register at the faculty of choice, the summer or autumn admission sessions.

Studying at WUT E.U. Third Co untries C itizens The admission process for citizens from E.U. third countries is performed according to the Methodology for issuing the Letters of Acceptance and admitting foreign citizens from EU third countries for studies and schooling at West University of Timisoara, and it takes place between the months of February and September, each year, for the next academic year. Non-European candidates must fill in the Application Form and submit the legalized documents requested on the second page of the Application Form. Dead line for submitting the documents is the August (Bachelor & Master studies) and September (Preparatory Year & PhD). Pay attention that the documents must be authenticated translations of the respective documents in a language widely spread internationally. Necessary documents for the admission process: Application Form- aII requested information filled in entirely (please specify if you want Preparatory Year or not)- to be downloaded from the website of the Department of InternationaI Relations www.ri.uvt.ro The studies documents - legally certified copies and translations of High School Diploma (and of Bachelor Diploma if the candidate applies for Master studies); Academic records - legally certified copies and translations- for the completed studies (High School and Bachelor) and the analytical curriculum in case of candidates that request equivalence for certain periods of studies; Birth certificate - copy and legally certified translation; Copy of the passport- valid at least 6 months after the date w hen the Letter of Acceptance to studies is issued; Medical certificate - (in a widespread international language) to prove that the person to be registered for studies does not suffer from infectious diseases or other illnesses that are incompatible with the future profession; Marriage license - if necessary (to prove the name change); Proof of residency abroad; Complete contact data - postal address, e-mail address, phone number. The candidates for higher education in arts, sports and architecture must pass the skills tests organized by the University, after receiving the Letter of Acceptance for studies.
Studying at WUT Language of Study For those who w i II study in Roman ian language- if the candidate knows the Romanian Langu age but does not have a Romanian Language Certificate, he/she must obtain it following an exam. Only after passing this language exam, the candidate s ha ll be accepted into the fi st year of study. If the candidate does not know Romanian language, he/she must attend the Preparatory Year for learning Romanian language. During the Preparatory Year the candidates w ill learn the basic Romanian vocabulary and the specific vocabulary needed for the future studies (anatomy, physics, chemistry, arts, tec hnical drawing etc). W he n registering for study programmes that require Romanian lingu ist ic competence, the following categories of persons are exempt from the ob ligation to present the certificate of graduat ion from t he Romanian language Preparatory Yea r: persons who present Romanian study documents (diplomas and certificates) which prove at least four consecutive years of study in a pre-university school or at least three consecutive years of study in an accredited high education institution within the Romanian nationaI system;
OR persons who pass the Romanian language test and obtain the Certificate of Romanian language proficency. The Preparatory Year of Romanian Language During the Preparatory Year the candidates will learn the basic Romanian vocabulary and the specific vocabulary needed for the future studies (anatomy, physics, chemistry, arts, technica I drawing etc).
Who Should Attend? Foreign citizens from EU third countries who wish to study in Romanian language. Foreign citizens from EU third countries will be registered for undergraduate and postgraduate studies only after graduating the Romanian language Preparatory Year or on the basis of a Certificate proving Romanian linguistic competencies; Foreign citizens of European Union, of the European Economic Area and of the Swiss Confederation who wish to study in Romanian language. If the candidate knows Romanian language but does not have a Romanian Language Certificate, he/she must take an language exam. Only after passing this language exam, the candidate shaII be accepted into the first year of study. The fees for foreign citizens from EU third countries, for the Preparatory Year of Romanian language, is according to the domain of studies the candidate wants to persue after finishing the language course (for eg. the preparatory year for Medicine is 320EUR/month) – pag. 18. The fees for foreign citizens from the European Union, of the European Economic Area and of the Swiss Confederation are: 3 000 RON I year.

For those who want to study in an internationaIforeign language, a Ianguage test is required if the candidate cannot prove that he/she had studied in the respective language. West University of Timisoara offers the following study programmes:
Undergrad uate Std ies (3 years) Faculty of Economics and Business Administration The Accounting and Business Information Systems Bachelor Programme taught in German is developed in collaboration with Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences and will give students the opportunity to study for two semesters in Germany, as well as offer them the possibility of obtaining a double diploma. A diploma in accounting can transform the passion of working with numbers into a valuable intangible asset, which is necessary in every business domain. The Finance and Banking Bachelor Programme taught in English provides a competitive advantage for graduates who want to pursue a solid career in the finances and banking sector. Further education cycles for this program enable the development of a complex culture in finance, a comprehensive economic vision and acquire economic rationality as a whole. The Management Bachelor Programme taught in French is developed in collaboration with the Lille 1University and will give students the opportunity to study for one semester in France, as well as offer them the possibility to receive a double diploma. The Management Program combines both theoretical and practical approaches of business management. Faculty of Political Science, Philosophy and Communication Sciences The International Relations and European Studies Bachelor Programme taught in German trains practitioners in the field of international relations and european studies, being a collaborative project between West University of Timisoara and the Rectors' Conference of the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Academic Exchange Service. Faculty of Letters, History and Theology The Modern Languages and Literatures Bachelor Programme combining English, French, German as major with Spanish, Italian, Russian, Serbian and Croatian as minor trains practitioners in the field of languages and literatures. The Modern Languages Department at our university has been ranked in Top 150 worldwide programmes in the field of modern languages. The Applied Modern Languages Bachelor Programme in English, French, German, Spanish (advanced), Russian, Serbian Croatian and Italian (intermediate) trains specialized translators. The Modern Languages Department at WUT has been ranked as one of the top programmes in the field of modern languages worldwide, in Top 150 QS Rankings by Subject, thus certifying the quality of its' course offer.
Studying at WUT Faculty of Music and Theatre The Acting Bachelor Programme taught in German is focused on developing the students' acting skills through improvisation exercises, attempts to scenic situations based on narrative texts, scene and role studies, workshop productions with public performances and theater internships. The lecturers are mainly standing in professional theater practitioners, actors and directors that provide a current and immediate contact between education and theater work. Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science The Computer Science Bachelor Programme taught in English provides training in the main topics of Computer Science with a focus on theoretical concepts and practical tools used in solving computational problems and in designing software products. Faculty of Chemistry, Biology and Geography The Chemistry Bachelor Programme taught in English opens the door for understanding the nature of chemicals and chemical processes. Faculty of Law The European Union Law Master programme, taught in English, aims to help the students acquire the competences necessary to understand the European Union law in its relationship with the domestic systems of the Member States. The duration of study is 1 (one) year, and full attendance is required. Faculty of Political Sciences, Philosophy and Communication Sciences The Philosophical Counseling and Consultancy Masters Programme taught in English is the first MA programme of this kind in Central-Eastern Europe, providing up-to-date knowledge and skills that can be professionally employed in support of persons, groups and organizations facing existential, relational, ethical, or decisional problems.
Studying at WUT The International Development and Management of Global Affairs Masters Programme taught in English seeks to respond to employers' and students' demands for an education in the field of international relations and development studies which is closer to practical work in the field and a better adjustment to global labor market needs. Faculty of Letters History and Theology The Translation Theory and Practice Master programme taught in English or French, addressed mostly, but not only, to graduates of Modern Languages or any other graduate, who masters one of these languages at level B2-C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference. The American Studies Masters Programme taught in English is designed for those interested in conducting a deeper study of American culture and civilization and their connection with the current socio-cultural environment. The German language in European context- Interdisciplinary and multicultural studies Masters Programme taught in German is addressed to those interested in studying German language and culture from a multi- and inter-disciplinary perspective and applying them to current social and political contexts. The Romance Cultural and Linguistic Studies Master programme offers courses in French, Ital ian, Spanish and Roumanian. The disciplines of the MA programme aim to develop the students co mpetencies necessary in fundamental applicative research and its possible continuation within a doctoral programme. Faculty of Sociology and Psychology The Organizational and Occupational Health Psychology Masters Programme taught in English is the only study programme in this field in Romania offered in English, making it an excellent opportunity for students to improve their language skills for working as organizational consultants in multinational environments. Faculty of Arts and Design The Innovation-based Integrated Design Master Programme taught in English has the main purpose of training design specialists through inter-disciplinary study and research.
