Dear Editor, Guatemala’s unfounded claim over Belize is taking a very dangerous, serious and grave route for Belizeans. All of us are extremely at high risk in losing our land, that is why on 4th November General Elections is not only about ending corruption and bad administration but also about UDP Government handing over Belize to Guatemala IF they win elections. Guatemala is extremely racist, they want our land but they don’t want our people, namely the Creoles, Garifuna, Kekchi or other Mayas. Guatemala has massacred thousands upon thousands of their own indigenous people and will want now to include Creole, Garifuna, and Mayas, our own brothers and sisters if they get Belize. Circa 1970 I myself read a Guatemalan newspaper that said when they take over Belize they will grind all black people from Belize to make tar to pave their streets. This is most gruesome, offensive, despicable and abominable even to mention and for me to remember.
Chief Elections Officer Elections and Boundaries Department
Dear Madam, I write to you as a candidate in the upcoming November 4, 2015 General Elections. In preparations for said elections, there are several concerns that have prompted the need to write this letter. This first has to do with the lodging of complaints against voters who we know are not residents of Cayo West constituency and in fact are not even Belizeans. In keeping with the provisions of the Act, we had filed out complaint and when we had followed up with the Benque Viejo Office of the Elections and Boundary office we were told by the officer there that it would be held Wednesday, September 30 at the Benque Viejo Magistrate Court. In preparation for the said complaints we had a representative, an attorney and two witnesses from Arenal (where the electors are supposedly registered) to testify that the 10 electors in fact were not Belizeans, lived permanently across the border in Guatemala and have never lived or voted in Arenal. On September 30, there was no Magistrate in Benque. It was after the Attorney called the Clerk of Courts at the Cayo Magistrate Court that we were informed that the hearing would in fact be at the San Ignacio Magistrate Court. Our group hurried over to San Ignacio, upon arrival there they were met by the delegation from the ruling United Demo-

On October 8, 2015 at 9:30 pm I happened to pass the Elections and Boundaries office in Benque Viejo and saw the office opened. I asked from the Elections and Boundaries officer the reason the office was opened at that late hour of the night and she refused to answer my queries. Some of the questions I asked: 1. Why is the Benque Elections and Boundaries office open after regular working hours and at this late hour of the night? 2. Why has the public not been informed about these changes if in fact this has been sanctioned by the Chief Elec-

Dear Editor, We will vote for PUP because we tiad a get chancey by the dictator Dean Barrow and his minions. He chancey everybody, the Unions, BGYEA group and other social groups, BTV and other volunteers, Caneros, the poor street vendors, the teachers, UB students, BEL and BTL workers, Social Security Workers, the Mayans down south and everyone else. He has promised to get rid of union leaders that question his authority like Mora and Matura if he wins the next general elections. We tired a be bullied by this man and his group of corrupted people. Plus we say no to ICJ, we say no to Guatemala, we need the PUP back to help the poor. Dean Barrow only help his family and cronies with millions of dollars and sell out to Ashcroft and we have to pay all this money back. The people have the power!
Belizeans open your eyes now, don’t allow Elrington and Barrow to deliver Belize to Guatemala; just listen attentively to Elrington’s speech at United Nations to realize how vile the situation is. A VOTE FOR UDP IS A VOTE FOR GUATEMALA TO TAKE OVER BELIZE. YOUR VOTE WILL DECIDE WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT!!! Signed. J. Magana tions Officer? 3. What exactly are you doing at this hour of the night in this office? 4. Are you registering persons who do not qualify, (since September 10 was the last day for registering)? As a citizen and candidate I am entitled to a free and fair election. I am hereby requesting your office to look into the above matter and to honour the constituency of Cayo West and our country of Belize with a response as soon as possible.

UDP campaigns with Petro! Belize City, October 15, 2015 The UDP continues to spend the dwindling Petro Caribe loan monies for his political propaganda. In Cayo before the “buy” elections, Dean Barrow addressed a gathering and told them that he has “millions upon millions” of dollars and he will spend these millions in Cayo, so he can win the “buy” election which was held in early January 2015. Yes millions of dollars were spent. Guess what?! It was Petrocaribe dollars - a loan that we the Belizean people will have to pay back. In the Freetown Division, the UDP is spending Petrocaribe dollars for political purposes. Again, this is a loan that we the Belizean people will have to pay back! With what authority is the UDP spending petrocaribe monies? In Belize Rural Central, the UDP is also spending Petrocaribe to buy out support for the elections. They have no vision, no history of community work, no track record. Only Petro dollars. In the Albert and Caribbean Shores Divisions the UDP is raining Petrocaribe money. Banners with glossy pictures all over. Signs on every lamp post. Flags everywhere. Remember these areas have been held by the UDP representatives Herman Longsworth and Santino Castillo. PUP Will Give Power to the People!
Belize City, October 15, 2015 The antidote to the power-drunk, arrogant and corrupt Barrow Administration will be in the hands of the Belizean people on Wednesday November 4th 2015. The UDP Government, which for the past seven years has made life harder and punished us under the weight of their arrogance and total incompetence, will face the judgment of the Belizean people who are clamouring for better. The antidote to the UDP’s painful wreckage that they have left our country in is the vision of the People’s United Party that a Government must be transparent, must be accountable, should be driven by ideas for nation building and must be devoted to working for the Belizean people for the country to thrive. This is the vision driving the PUP today under leader Francis Fonseca. To show the Party’s real commitment to Belize, on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 the PUP Leader and Standard Bearers gathered at the historic In-

UDP INSULTS October 6, 2015 The list of Belizeans who have been insulted, victimized or disrespected by the UDP is a long one but if we were to rank who has been disrespected the most by Dean Barrow’s UDP, for sure the people of the Toledo District would be near number 1 if not at that spot. As we look back at what the UDP did to us Belizeans, the list is long. It includes insulting black Belizeans, who in a very racist way were being threatened and openly discriminated against when Manuel Heredia went on the media to confirm that creole people from the mainland would have to stamp in to the island. Then Hispanic Belizeans had their children wake up to the sound of Police boots stomping down their doors and UDP bulldozers in the Chetumal Street area, then controlled by Mark King. The UDP called these families aliens and they were told to go back to their country when they were Belizean. Mark King didn’t end there. He Continued on page 6
dependence Hall on Queen Street to publicly sign a social contract with the people! The social contract offers 12 clear pledges that the PUP will carry out in its first 100 days in office. The importance of these pledges are that they form the essence of the PUP’s commitment to reform and better governance, to break the chains of tyranny that Belize has been under the Barrow Administration. Pledge 3 is to Appoint a 13 Senator. The PUP will obey the law and enforce the appointment of a Non-Governmental Organisation representative to the Senate. The Barrow Administration has refused to follow the law, distorting democracy. Pledge 4 is to require Senate confirmations in the appointments of key appointments of senior public officers such as the Auditor General, Contractor General, the Director of Public Prosecution and Judges. Barrow autocracy has flourished under a system where he has the only say with the appointments of the important positions.
Pledge 5 will be hated by the UDPs but embraced by right-thinking Belizeans. This is to reconfigure the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and include social partners’ representative. The PUP will ensure that PAC could finally become an oversight for public finances. Pledge 6 is to strengthen the Integrity Commission, an important body which the Barrow Administration has put a seven year long chokehold on, preventing oversight of public officials such as Elvin Penner, Edmond Castro and Gaspar Vega. The PUP will ensure that the Integrity is functional to prevent corruption in office. Pledge 7 is to allow the spending of Petrocaribe funds to be administered by a Board that will include social partners to ensure transparency. The five pledges mentioned above will radically nourish Belize’s democracy and transfer the power held by politicians to the people. The other pledges are also of importance as they are vital to social justice, economic growth, equal and affordable
03 3 access to health care and universal access to education. Pledge 1 is to Build Forward Operation Bases at the Sarstoon and Hunting Caye and an outpost in the Chiquibul area, Pledge 2 is the disband Barrow’s Gang Suppression Unit and repeal the draconian gun law, Pledge 7 is to expand the exemptions to income tax to thou-
sands of PAYE workers, Pledge 9 is to revisit the Tourism Accommodation Act to ease the burden on stakeholders, Pledge 10 is to raise the Minimum Wage, Pledge 11 is to provide Free Education from Pre-School to Sixth Form, and Pledge 12 is to get rid of the rats at the hospitals and roll out the National Health Insurance scheme which provides a comprehensive safety net for all Belizeans. “Our team of 31 candidates are convinced, each and every one us, is convinced that unless there is significant and fundamental reforms undertaken in the way Belize is governed the full potential of Belize to realize economic opportunities, to free its people from the bonds of poverty and improve the lives of all Belizeans may never be achieved. This is our opportunity to get it right and we in the People’s United Party take that very seriously,” stated PUP Leader Francis Fonseca at the signing. The PUP is offering a new vision for Belize. Francis is the Leadership Belize needs!

MORE UDP LAND GRAB!
Orange Walk Town, October 14, 2015 The Ministry which Prime Minister Dean Barrow admitted has become a “hotbed of corruption” is back on the news for the same kind of debauchery for which the PM threw his Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega under the bus. Documents have surfaced of a ‘wutless’ cheap sale of prime property to wellknown UDP cronies. The lands involved are parcels 4303, 4304 and 4135, located along the Phillip Goldson Highway in Orange Walk Town. The lands were sold to known UDP cro-
UDP campaigns with Petro! Continued from page 2 They both abandoned the constituency for seven long years! This is why the UDP has to use Petrocaribe money to campaign the way they are. In Toledo East and West, the UDP used Petrocaribe money to fund a rent a crowd rally for rejected representatives Eden Martinez and Juan Coy. Rejected goods. The UDP paid for buses, food, drinks, more food and more drinks, and gave away hundreds for pocket money to get persons to attend their no-good rally. Of course, there was no apology for the disrespect of the Maya people and no explanation as to why the UDP has neglected the South. Once the people got drunk, the UDP taught them the Petrocaribe dance. Dean Barrow, as the Minister of Finance, will one day soon have to answer for the illegal spending of millions of Petrocaribe dollars without oversight and proper accountability. On November 4th, the people of Belize will tek back the power from Dean Barrow, and put it where it belongs: the people. Power to the People!

nies Derrick Gillett, Roman Alvarez and Emir Cruz in October and December 2009. Gillett is a well-known UDP from Orange Walk. He is the one who the UDP awarded a contract to provide fish and meats to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Emir Cruz is the nephew of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources Gaspar Vega. But it’s not so much the names of
the cronies involved in this controversial sale of land, but the prices put on the lands sold. Alvarez paid a cheap $1,000 for his land, while Gillett and Cruz got theirs for a mere $800!! Sounds like a ‘crackhead’ land deal, right? We are dealing with a crackhead Government. Local land evaluators have shared with the BELIZE TIMES that just the location of the lands put the value much higher than what Government sold them for.

So, while three UDP wealthy stooges have amassed more wealth through special access to land, the losers in this are the Belizean public and taxpayers. The public are once more disrespected by Gapi the Minister of Lands who has claimed “not-normal” status and who puts his family ahead of normal Belizeans. The taxpayers are cheated of thousands of dollars, from the cheap sale of Belizean patrimony.

EDITORIAL Game Over, Dean Barrow
D
ean Barrow once referred to himself as the “Master of Games” at a House of Representatives meeting. Indeed, we have to give the Devil his due. When it comes to political trickery, double speak, covering up ministerial wrong-doing and outright lying to Belizeans, Mr. Barrow is a master at that game. However when it comes to defending our land against Guatemala, providing land and houses for Belizeans, creating jobs, proving health care for our people he is as Hubert Elrington said publicly “All glitter and no substance”. And so as Belizeans prepare to go to the polls to send the message that the people have the power, we can only advise our megalomaniac Prime Minister that it is time to pack his bags and leave Belmopan. JUST GO DEAN O. In the general elections of 2008, Barrow played a nasty and sinister trick on the people. He was very efficient at scandalizing political opponents, creating fear among the voters, using the media and creating an atmosphere of mistrust between the People’s United Party and the people whom we have so diligently served for over 60 years. As a part of the game he also made empty promises fully knowing he had no intention to deliver. He would bring down the cost of living, he promised to build an oil refinery, and reduce the cost of fuel. He promised to build houses and empower or people. He pretended that he loved Belizeans; that he would care for the sick, educate our children and solve the crime problem. He promised to protect or borders (with helicopters) and above all he was going to take his proverbial machete and cut down corruption in all its forms wherever it reared its head. Those were just a few of the promises that the Master of Games made to the hard working mothers, fathers, sons and daughters of our beloved Belize. But Barrow never meant to keep his promises. It was another one of his games. His only objective was to win. The first thing he did was to close down the lands department. During this period, UDP cronies were allowed to enter and begin to grab what is not theirs. Many hard working people, some of whom had supported him saw their leases canceled, their dreams dashed. The only re-distribution under the UDP has been taking away land from poor Belizeans to give to their friends and cronies. Today, average ‘normal’ Belizean cannot get a piece of land unless you are a known supporter of the UDP. Ask Mark King. It is UDP first. The UDP has destroyed the energy sector. There is no oil refinery. We have sold away our sweet crude. Barrow squandered the Petrocaribe money, meant for energy independence, as though it was for him. Even though oil prices are at their lowest, we still pay more for gas than anywhere else in the region. No benefit for the average Belizean. So the cost of living will continue to rise because the high price of fuel affects so my other sectors of the economy including transportation and agriculture. Again, no plan from Mr. Barrow just more political games. The UDP have not built a single house for the poor in 8 years. The Government developed no programme for the average worker to own his or her own home. People are being forced into the rent market and there is no legislative protection for tenants who are being “chanced” and forced to living in inhumane
conditions at the whim of slum lords. On the matter of Crime and National Security the Master has failed us tremendously. Over 1000 Belizeans have died from violent crime under his watch. The Police Department is in many cases unnecessarily rough and oppressive especially of poor black and Mayan Belizeans. Our Foreign Minister does not know where our borders are and has reversed an unfounded claim so much in favour of Guatemala that they have taken over Sarstoon Island. Sedi Elrington has been soft on the questions of our national sovereignty and his vague and often ludicrous statements have all Belizeans at home and abroad frustrated. On the vital issue of corruption there have been scandals in almost all government departments. Ministers have sold passports to criminals in jail, abused public office, and misused public funds. Criminal complaints have been lodged at the police station against sitting Ministers and Standard Bearers. The upholder is a bad as the thief. Rather than cutting corruption Barrow has become corruption’s chief public defender. Nepotism is not nepotism according to him. Corrupt also means something else. Every investigation against one of his Ministers has been stone walled and public officers have been intimidated and threatened to cover up illegality. And we hear nothing from Barrow other than that he makes no apology. The health sector is in crisis. Our babies are dying because of negligence. The Western Regional hospital is rat infested. There are no ambulances, not enough beds, no national cancer treatment center, no diabetes treatments center, no affordable kidney dialysis treatment, and rather than dealing with the incompetent leadership with Pablo Marin, the Master of the Games says it doesn’t matter they will still the elections. True to his nature Barrow has decided to play one more reindeer game – call an early elections. He knows that the truth of the BTL and BEL deal will come out soon. He knows that the final court will eventually expose him on the Eight & Ninth Amendments. He knows that the treasury is dry because he blew out the Petrocaribe loan funds. He knows that the Unions are not happy. He knows that people are disgusted with the way his family members are making millions from the public coffers. He knows that when people see the final bill for BTL they will never forgive them. But the people will not play your games any longer Mr. Barrow. They are smarter than you think. They smell the rat. You have borrowed over a billion dollars and spent billions more in eight years and we are still suffering. You have been a plague on our nation, On November 4, 2015 the people will put the People’s United Party back to work. We will once again deliver on the promise that is Belize. Our people are hard working and committed and they deserve better. Francis and the PUP are committed to doing better. So On November 4, 2015 Barrow will feel the Power of the People. When you wake up November 5 Mr. Master of Games you will realize that the GAME IS OVER!

UDP INSULTS Continued from page 3 called Belizeans second class citizens when he said the UDP’s policy is to deal with UDPs first, and then maybe Belizeans second. What a loser. Gapi Vega then told Belizeans that he was more important than them and that they were in effect lazy so he was superior to them as he and his family is “not a normal person” in Belize. But the poor people of Toledo, they have been used by Barrow as Opposition leader, then ignored, disrespected and punished by Barrow as Prime Minister. The Mayans have been provoked by the UDP who send operatives to destabilize them. They win cases in the Court and Barrow refuses to honor it. They have their temples bulldozed and Barrow defends the person responsible. Then the UDP raided their villages in early morning and drag them in shame to court without clothes or dignity. Toledo as a district has probably taken the worst assault of the Barrow government but they remain resolved and patient to wait for the change of Government. It is Toledo which has effectively lost territory to Guatemala because of Sedi Elrington and the UDP. They live everyday with the illegal fishing of Guatemalan and the raiding of the Belize rainforest in the Chiquibul. They have to
deal with the Guatemalan military breathing down their backs while the UDP turn their back and blame Belizeans. The insult is compounded by the fact that now Barrow is trying to bribe our southern most people. It is no secret that Petro Caribe dollars is being used and misused by the UDP to campaign. Well in PG the one day belly full is coming. What the UDP don’t understand is that the people of Belize are no fools. The people of Toledo have integrity. They cannot be bought. They will remember the insults. Come November 4th the people of Toledo East and West will do some kicking. They will finish the kick out of the UDP. The people of the South are people with a history of resistance. Belizeans of the south have a history of survival and success against the odds. The people of the south are used to having power remain in the hands of the people. They will remain faithful, committed and persistent in the quest to kick the UDP out and to repay them for all the insults that they had to endure. The PUP will fix the neglect. Mike Espat and Oscar Requena will finally be able to secure for Toledo what they deserve. They will begin by restoring respect and dignity but ultimately they will restore power back to the people.

Workers Noh Happy With Barrow!
Belize City, October 09, 2015 Prime Minister Dean Barrow was his usual self, cocky, cold and insulting, when he addressed questions about the growing discontent among workers across the country. Employees at Social Security and the University of Belize are on the brink of announcing industrial action after weeks of failed discussions and negotiations over job benefits. The employees of Social Security have held lunch protests and even walked out of meetings in disapproval of what their Union leader, Christian Worker’s Union (CWU) president Audrey Matura-Shepherd, has called the mistreatment of the workers. The Union has been lobbying for an acceptable Collective Bargaining Agreement for their members, but the Government-appointed Social Security Board has been applying “delay tactics and create red-herrings” according to Shepherd. At the University of Belize, the lecturers held demonstrations and cancelled classes, to protest the University Board intransigence towards their request for an overdue salary increase for the faculty and staff. UB employees were skipped by the Government when they reluctantly gave a meagre salary increase to primary and secondary school teachers and public officers. UB employees say that they are deserving

The lecturers argue, however, that the excuse is nonsense because when the Government freezes increments for teachers and public officers in the name of austerity, even they are affected by the decision. So why must they not benefit from a salary increase for teachers?
Micho Chebat
Prime Minister Barrow does not agree with the UB faculty and staff, and he has warned them that their actions, no matter how dramatic, will not gain any sympathy from him. “Walking out in protesting will in my view do nothing…so while I am not surprised or even disappointed at the course of action embarked upon, it won’t get them anywhere”, Barrow remarked during recent media interviews.
Barrow’s response is not surprising. As Prime Minister he has resisted giving greater attention and benefits to Belizean workers. The Belize National Teachers’ Union spent nearly four years battling the PM in their quest for a muchdeserved salary adjustment for teachers. Two weeks ago, the Belize Energy Workers Union gave up on the long “negotiations” for salary increases for BEL employees and announced that they were going on a national strike. This was averted by the Government’s eventual surrender. Even hospital workers at the national referral hospital, Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, have had to take drastic steps to squeeze out financial benefits for their years of service from the Government. The UDP Government has done all it can to frustrate the efforts of Belizean workers. All this while the cost of living has been skyrocketing and the spending power of the working class fizzling. Prime Minister Dean Barrow has had ultimate power over the last seven years; it is time to give that power to Belizean people.

UDP WILL TRY TO STEAL THE ELECTIONS!
Belize City, October 14, 2015 The UDP will do everything possible to steal the elections. It doesn’t matter if it is by illegal means or unethical tactics, ever since the rabid UDP Chairman Alberto August exited Elections and Boundaries he seemingly left the doors wide open for his party to meddle with their affairs. When PUP Standard Bearer Lesbia Guerra Cocom raised alarm last week at discovering that the Elections and Boundaries office in Cayo West was “open for business” at ten o’clock at night, it reminded us of the usual tricks of the UDP to manipulate the results of the elections. This time around, the UDP are no different. There have been strong reports that Elections and Boundaries officers who are strongly influenced by UDP representatives are sneaking in voters and processing voter registrations even though the deadline for votes for the November 4th elections was September 10th. There are also strong reports that the UDP is being given access to key information and data that should be kept safe and secure from political interference. What’s going on in your Department Ms. Tamai? The UDP have found a way to get away with serious voter fraud. The voter transfer this year saw active movement among constituencies. Both political parties were busy, but it is the UDP’s methods that is suspicious and must be watched carefully. One example is their transferring voters living in Port Loyola all the way to Cayo South.
2015, Elections office in Benque open for 2012, documents removed from 2012, UDP candidate caught inside “voter registration” around 10pm Elections office around 10pm Elections office around 7pm dropped the ball. Now, Elections and Boundaries have moved the deadline for objections to November 1st, which is three days to the elections!! Isn’t this an exercise in futility? IN THE SUPREME COURT OF BELIZE, A.D. 2009 CLAIM NO. 258 OF 2009 BARRY PAPWORTH BETWEEN
CLAIMANT
and
RUSHIEL BEVANS (a.k.a. Rashad Bevans) R & F BRICKMAKERS & CONSTRUCTION LIMITED
DEFENDANTS
NOTICE TO:
By Oswin Blease The Crooked Tree causeway is not safe. Like many of Castro’s road rehabilitation projects little or no engineering input goes into the works. The haphazard rehabilitation of this causeway now appears to have been a big camouflage job done to give Hon. Castro campaign funds and an advantage over Dwight Tillett in the UDP Standard Bearer Convention. A few weeks ago, a vehicle flipped and the driver and her two children almost met their death in the Crooked Tree Lagoon. Motorists are advised to drive with extreme caution when traversing across the lagoon because any number can play. Every now and then, a mass of land fill gives way to the large body of water and under current, which battered the edges. I truly hope this does not happen at a time when a passen-
ger bus is passing. However, while we hope that does not happen, a better way for doing things is on the horizon. Major Lloyd Jones has reported for duty, and he has a better plan for the Crooked Tree Causeway. Major Jones’ vision is to construct a causeway with a number of culvert bridges to facilitate the free flow of water around the island. The causeway will be expanded to allow for two-lane traffic and pedestrian sidewalks and rails. The causeway will be lighted and reflectors erected on both sides along the protection guards. So why not Major Jones for Belize Rural North. The current representative has no vision for Crooked Tree. So on November 4 make Major Lloyd Jones your choice for Belize Rural North. VOTE MAJOR LLOYD JONES VOTE PUP!!

November 4th - What’s at stake? By G. Michael Reid As we approach the November 4th General Elections, the rhetoric has ratcheted up considerably. Every lamp post in town is decorated with flags and banners of the respective parties and nowhere is the disparity in campaign funding more profound, than in that realm. Come Election Day, this disparity shall again manifest itself in the vast array and large amount of tee shirts that will flood the streets of our nation with every bum and homeless person being well dressed, if only for that one day. The unfortunate reality is that while the Opposition must scrape and scrounge to fund its campaign, the ruling party has unfettered access to the public coffers. Something is not right! Social media is also abuzz with propaganda, creative memes and predictions and although Facebook has been characterized as a tool for self-expression, this arena is concurrently playing a significant role in the sphere of information sharing and political agendasetting. Social sites like Facebook, Twitter and even Youtube are changing how citizens, in particular the young, obtain information and connect and interact with each other. Just about everyone knows a friend or former colleague who has gotten un-friended, blocked or their connection hidden because of a particular political view. Social media is also considered interlinked with the mainstream media and many a supposedly private post has made it into our daily newscasts. And speaking of daily newscast, what used to be at most, 45 minutes is now almost two hours long with most of it being political ads which also dominated regular media programming throughout the entire day. Hurry please November 5th so that we can get back to our regular lives! I make no secret of the fact that, nor do I make any apology for my support of the People’s United Party. It is however, not without reason nor is it from blind party loyalty. Candidate for candidate, I sincerely believe that the Blue Team is heads and shoulders above the
THE BELIZE TIMES persons mapping the landscape in that area and ensuring that all Belizeans are afforded quality healthcare. The plan to continue the roll out of National Health Insurance (NHI) is also welcome news and many have benefited from this program, albeit in a limited scope. It was started under that last PUP administration but this selfish and vindictive administration upon assuming office immediately halted the implementation of that plan and had in fact, cut back considerably on the services provided. They however, travel abroad at our expense to acquire healthcare for themselves and their family members not caring that here at home, newborn babies are dying or are being eaten alive by rats in incubators. There are few things more important to the wellbeing of a nation than quality and affordable education and healthcare. The PUP has also promised to give attention to the matter of land distribution. This UDP government has unfairly distributed much land to cronies and family members of ministers but has neglected the needs of “normal” Belizeans. About the only promise that Dean Barrow ever kept to Belizeans was that he would “quitar” land from any who he believed to be a PUP. Many are the poor families who have been put out of

one has ever been held accountable. Gapi Vega remains firmly in charge even after admitting giving lands to his brother, daughter and other relatives. If ever there was justification for a “quitar”, here it is! There is a myriad of reasons why the people of Belize should, if not vote in the PUP then certainly vote out this UDP government. First and foremost, we need to get a look at the books to see what has been going on. We need Crimson Crew. Dean Barrow himself is to also know the true extent of our exbright and articulate but deceitful and ternal debt; reported to be above nineconniving. He is also boastful and arroty percent of our GDP. Because of the gant and completely out of touch with system of government under which the people of this country. In fact, were we live, absolute power is given to it not for the hard work and charisma one man and one man only. When this of his sister, Dean Barrow would never one man then, refuses to appoint an have been elected to political office. Belize is in dire need of competent and concerned leadership. For his part, leader of the People’s United Party Francis Fonseca, while not nearly as glib or flamboyant as Dean Barrow, is humble, approachable and likeable. Fonseca is also supported by a team of competent professionals that include doctors, lawyers, architects and successful business people. The PUP has a solid plan to move Belize forward with a practical approach to Education, Healthcare and National Security; the three key pillars of any functional democracy. Free education from preschool to junior college is a long overdue and a very doable proposition and should pave the way for the many children currently out of school to have an opportunity at an education. Both Drs. Smith and Guerra have valuable expertise and experience in the field of Health which has been a perpetual weakness on the part of this current administration. THE BELIZE TIMES
THINK ABOUT IT
UDP HAVE FI GO While the UDP is clinging to vote buying and bribery, the PUP is energizing voters with its impressive list of important improvements in the way government and the country will improve. What is particularly galling to many Belizeans is how the Prime Minister hijacked the Petro Caribe monies and is now pushing a stale slogan about transformation. He had a golden opportunity to transform Belize but refused to do so. Now, he is saying look at the streets and a few buildings. Transformation would have been how many more classrooms were built. How many more young Belizeans entered colleges and sixth forms? How many new farms and farmers were empowered? How many new clinics and doctors were put in place to serve the people across the country? How many new businesses, small and medium were brought into existence? Like the Mayor of Belize City, the Prime Minister has squandered millions. No, put it this way. The Mayor has squandered tens of millions and the Prime Minister has squandered hundreds of millions. None of them followed legal requirements of accountability and transparency. There have been no detailed public accountings for precisely how public monies were spent. It is an indictment of our government that such awesome monies could have disappeared with so little to show. The Mayor blew away over forty million dollars and cannot present detailed accounting for a handful of streets. One hundred streets were paved, but over five hundred remain in horrible conditions. And no drains. And only one park-which BTL built from a loan. The Prime Minister cannot present public details on the spending of four hundred millions from Petro Caribe in addition to the national budget of one billion dollars and has refused to give details of how much has been spent on individual projects. These are reasons enough why this government cannot remain in office. To vote for them is to endorse one of the most irresponsible, incompetent, wasteful and corrupt government we have seen. And they are facey about it. There are other reasons why the UDP cannot remain in government. The list is too long for this page but without a doubt the handling of Guatemala’s claim to Belize is a big F for failure for the Prime Minister. Our people are demoralized over the Government’s behavior. The Prime Minister’s Pharaoh behavior through it all is shameful. Downright shameful. So bad did it become that Guatemala was building Belize’s Southern base. Since taking office in 2008, the Prime Minister has quite rightly received the title of Crime Minister. Crime Minister for the quantum leap in the increase in home invasions, rape, lawlessness and murder most foul since the UDP took office. There have been over a thousand murders, many of them young people, while his Government took tax dollars and paid gang members including the largest, deadliest gang registered as voters from George Street in the Prime Minister’s constituency. Boy oh boy! Barrow has to go. Crime Minister also because he has presided over a corrupt gang in his very hand-picked bloated Cabinet. Out of his own mouth has come the feigned condemnation-“For God’s Sake Stop It”- referring to widespread corruption in the sale of visa to foreigners. Then “Cesspool of Corruption”, he said, about Gapi Vega’s Ministry of Lands. And
“stink to high Heaven” about another. But! But he lifted not a finger to reform any of these worthless ministries or hustling Ministers. When Minister Castro was caught with his greedy hand (both left and right like in a grab-tub) in the treasury at Civil Aviation, the Crime Minister in an attempt to mitigate public anger said Castro was despicable but left him as a Minister to continue enriching himself through skullduggery. But then look at Barrow himself. He is third in the Guinness Book of record for filthy nepotism and family enrichment. Nowhere in the continent of Africa, Asia or any third world country are there the likes of Dean Barrow. It is a multi-layered scheme. Call it Family Enrichment. Former wife Lois Young Barrow, now living abroad as a high-paid Ambassador with no accomplishment to show. She left the country having collected millions upon millions for legal work that lawyers in the Solicitor General’s Ministry are paid to perform. Brother Denys was made a Judge of Belize’s highest local court by his brother, the PM. He had to leave. The Court of Appeal found his conduct in a court case amounted to bias. Yep! There he was, a biased judge sitting in judgment of others. When he left, he took the government vehicle allegedly paying on a special deal approved by his brother as Minister of Finance. The Cinderella story doesn’t end there. Riding regularly on taxpayers’ pumpkin the massive hundreds of thousands paid to him for legal cases that should have been done by the Solicitor General. The disgusted public officials have leaked out all the cheques approved by the P.M. to his brother. They add up to millions. Son-Shyne, aka Levi, aka deportee, travels the world (except the United States where he has been banned from entering) as an appointed Music Ambassador of Belize by his dad. He cannot flash his diplomatic passport in the USA, where he was convicted of gun violence and jailed for eight years. Another Guiness Book of Record for Belize, for the wrong reasons. We are the only country in the world where a convicted criminal fresh out of jail is Mr. Ambassador. How much are his travels and hotel suite expenses costing Belize taxpayers? Did the International monitors of Nations whose leaders abuse the office, index Belize with the letter “N” as the worst case of the decade for Nepotism? It don’t conclude there. There is the favorite son Anwar, named after Anwar al Sadat, a military dictator of Egypt who is infamous for selling out the Arab cause and causing millions of Palestinians to be condemned to a permanent life as refugees and second class citizens under brutal Israeli occupation. Son Anwar was put in charge of Belize’s biggest company BTL shortly after the court declared it illegally and unconstitutionally strong-armed by the Barrow government. Daughter Deanne Barrow was given a government case concerning a ship that violated our waters. This was an elementary paralegal matter. Millions again. We need not drag in the many nieces and nephews in this widening scheme of crony capitalism that looks like family monopoly with real money…our money. All this in our country of fifty percent poverty and fourteen percent more on the edge of becoming poor. How did Dean Barrow ever come to this? And pardon us for thinking that the election slogan of transformation was cyni-
cally chosen. These gangs sure are transforming from millionaires to multi-millionaires. Eight years of this national shame, while our wonderful country is going to the dogs. If God is willing we may get a second chance to do the right thing on 4 November. HAVE YOU NO SHAME There are some people, they have names like Carla and Tracey and Beverly posing with voters claiming that thanks to Petro Caribe they are transforming their areas. Excuse me. You are part of the robbery your government did to the people’s money sent to us by Venezuela to make OUR lives better. Now, thanks to you and your kind we must remain in poverty and crime and lack of health care and education while you turn millionaires. Should be ashamed of yourselves. JURY In all democracies, trials of very serious crimes are done by a jury of a person’s peers. The judge is overall in charge of the trial and is the authority on which law applies to the case. The jury is the only authority who listens to the facts of the case and agrees or disagrees if the accused person is guilty. All over the world, for hundreds of years this is the best procedure for criminal trials. In the USA the Constitution gives every citizen the right to trial with a jury. But in Belize the Prime Minister, without any consultation or research or study and despite serious misgivings by the opposition party, went ahead and changed this important legal principle for the sole reason that he wants to convict people. If government changes on 4 November, trial by jury will be restored in a renewed, democratic Belize. This is one of the many changes Hon. Francis Fonseca has vowed to implement. Another will be the change the brutal gun law and marijuana law. So shall it be written, so shall it be done. MASSIVE SUPPORT Each time the PUP call a People’s Rally the crowds of supporters just keep getting bigger and bigger. Sunday’s Power to the People rally in Orange Walk was not big, it was HUGE-MASSIVE. UDP TV station, Channel 7 reported that their count revealed over Seven Thousand supporters. But what else can we expect from them? By contrast, the UDP had a low energy; poorly attended rally in Punta Gorda. Channel 7 did not want to say how ‘pelinky’ the attendance was. Plus UDP have the face of brass to turn up in PG after all they have been doing to the citizens there. Toledo and Stann Creek gone completely blue. This is not like the recent buy-elections. The PUP has eighteen solid seats. No amount of bribery and vote buying gonna change that. As the old folks would say, God noh di sleep. Can you imagine-another five years of Dean Barrow and Gapi Vega? NOT ONE, BUT TWO Fire, fire and there is no water at Fenders in Belize City. The frightening fire, that raged at dawn this Monday morning was a dis-

graceful reminder of what its like to live under the UDP government. Wasting millions of dollars on silly party politics but neglecting important things. So incompetent and don’t give a damn how the government become, that not one but two fire-engines which arrived to battle the blaze, broke down at the same time. Over a dozen persons are now homeless. Add to that the almost weekly sad news of old houses just collapsing. Neglect, neglect and in the words of Michael Jackson-“All I Want to Say is They Don’t Really Care about Us”. MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE The sad, sad case of Keyren Tzib was once again news. She was back in the Supreme Court on a third bail hearing this Tuesday. Readers may recall that Keyren, a Coast Guard, had shot a fellow Coast Guard whom she alleges had previously raped her. Being as this is Belize, she had reported the rape and nothing came of it. She was charged and was out on bail. Her common law was abusing her and brutally beating her with a bamboo stick until it smashed up over her body. Eye witnesses say Keyren defended herself with one stab by the shoulder which caused her tormentor to bleed to death. Incredibly, the DPP charged Keyren for manslaughter in an obvious case of self-defense against a known abuser. Keyren was denied bail. She has been pleading for her freedom. The DPP office sent a foreign Crown Counsel to fight to make sure she is not given bail. All sorts of exotic arguments are being deployed to push the judge not to grant bail. The most ridiculous submission is that Keyren is a danger to the society and even, that she is a danger to herself. That’s bull…if Keyren is a danger to herself then she needs to be removed immediately from prison and placed under proper care in a proper hospital. As a bi-polar person Keyren will be subjected to all manner of provocation, harassment and abuse by female inmates and wardens at prison. And did you know the government shut down the mental hospital years ago? Palm something is where a handful of mental persons are imprisoned by Belmopan because they have no relative to stay with. But no new admissions are allowed since 2010. And Pablo Marin and his C.E.O Allen made sure there were no medications for our mentally ill citizens. We f…. up. All I want to say is they don’t really care about us. TRANSFORMING BELIZE UDP say they transforming Belize. Damn right about that. Belize was a tranquil haven of democracy until a certain Prime Minister came along. Then all hell broke loose and out came Gapi, Penner, Castro, King, Saldivar, Finnegan, Sedi, Pablo Marin, and others resembling certain demons. And Belize moved from haven of democracy to crime ridden, poverty stricken, hospitals with rats, one man government and millions of the people’s Petro Caribe gonna gone down the drain. “…for freedom comes November noon” Arise, ye voters of Belizean clan, put on your armor, resist that man. Drive out the tyrant and free up our land.

UDP WILL TRY TO STEAL THE ELECTIONS!
Continued from page 8 Boundaries office late at night. Then in Belmopan where UDP operatives were seen carrying in and out large manila folders to and from the Elections and Boundaries office. The excuse given was that the Government had naturalised thousands of immigrants and their voter registration was only being expedited. Yes, at 10 o’clock at night! How else would Elvin Penner, Rene Montero, Erwin Contreras and the others have gotten elected? This is not true democracy! This is how the UDP subverts and sabotages. But the PUP is coming strong and the people have a message for the UDP! No more! No mas al UDP!

Health by placing a rat in an incubator with a baby inside it. So, not only is there need for Pablo to apologize to the grieving mothers, there also isn’t any need for him to accept any responsibility in the fact that the Western Regional Hospital is rat infested. Remember the rats in the pantry of the Western Regional Hospital? Elections & Boundaries Commission, Were those also placed there Belize City to sabotage the ex-minister of health? The answer is simple re & Sports ally. Even though KHMH offers Belmopan quality health care services at low prices, there is a big difference between low price and af fordable price. How can you ask Dated this 9th day of October 2015 a “normal Belizean” who earns $50 a day to pay half of his daily wage for some laboratorial or radiological test when he also (JOSEPHINE TAMAI) needs to provide food, clothes Chief Elections Officer and education to his family?

As we currently stand “normal Belizeans” simply can’t afford the cost of health care. So instead of forgiving this debt, how about providing decent jobs with decent wages instead? How about equity in the distribution of the nation’s wealth? How about a fair playing field in looking for jobs? How about a NO to nepotism and cronyism? How about a stop to trafficking in political influence? Before being a good leader, you need to first be a good human being!
