WHO ALLOWED THE PLANE TO LAND? During the Wednesday 5th August press conference, the Prime Minister revealed that a private jet was given a special permission to come into Belize. Special regulations were given to allow said private plane to come in and land. Persons on this airplane would be allowed to come in for a day and then leave. All this of course happened when the Philip Goldson International Airport is closed except for cargo and repatriation flights. This pronouncement by the Prime Minister goes against the grain of a Belize where everyone is equal and nobody is a Vega abnormal. The UDP government was never given the mandate to treat the very wealthy no different. Even as

WHO ALLOWED THE PLANE TO LAND?
So John Saldivar is the real Mayor of Belmopan. The 72Hr tranches posterboy revealed to Belmopan constituents that he is really in charge and not Khalid Belisle. In a FB post, Saldivar is effect issued Belisle’s resignation and rationale for doing so. Without missing a beat, Saldivar quickly reposted under the guise of economic jargon who the replacement will be. So when Belmopan thought they were voting for a real man in a young mind all they got was a Saldivar push over who has decided enough is enough. Khalid will, on his own timing, reveal to the world, Dermen-like, that Saldivar really was pulling the strings and has been at the helm of selling the greens and not paying Social Security for the City Council workers. Saldivar also is the mastermind behind the PSU’s hilltop sale. The Real Wannabe Leader-elect John Saldivar has been exposed in 2020 for all his worthlessness. Belmopan has seen who Saldivar really is from Utah to Miami to Belmopan. Everyone knows now he accepted money on behalf of his ego and how he lied to many people. He lied to Cabinet about accepting cash and details. He lied to Belize when he said that he accepted the tranches to help his constituents pay their light bills. Saldivar lies got so twisted that when he said he didn’t bring money into Belize then how did he help with the light bills? Conundrum! As a matter of fact Lev Dermen was found guilty of defrauding the US government of a billion US taxpayer dollars--money laundering, fraud, conspiracy etc., ten counts. Message to Belmopan: Were the bags-full of money passed to Saldivar clean? Most likely yes. According to the Utah’s courts Dermen money was laundered money and from US taxpayers. Lastly, what did Dermen get in return for the tranches? Oh, who did Saldivar replace Khalid with? He replaced him with no one of consequence. Your question says it all. Who? Belmopan will soon replace all of them. They GOT TO GO!!
PEOPLE PROTEST: COROZAL STANDARD BEARERS
Continued from page 1 fers by the Elections and Boundaries office. The practise of moving people from one house to another to gain advantage in an election is illegal. This illegality it more pronounced when the house being moved into is only an office building or an empty lot or to a house fit for one person. But the UDP is doing it all. They are taking UDPs from constituencies they feel can give up their UDP voters to constituencies that may be on the balance. But if a person has not resided in the new constituency for two months then he or she CANNOT transfer. The Elections and Boundaries seems to be in cahoots and allowing those transfers by UDP even when a person DOES NOT reside at the new stated address. In most cases, the transferee does not even know where they are being moved. UDP campaign goons have been openly offering money on Social media for people willing to transfer. The UDP are desperate. Such desperation comes from the fact that they will lose. But, the PUP is showing leadership as of now that they will not allow the UDP to even attempt to steal this coming General Elections. The UDP has got to GO. David ‘Dido’ Vega for Corozal Bay, David Jesus Castillo for Corozal North, Hon. Florencio Marin for Corozal Southeast, and Ramiro Ramirez for Corozal Southwest will lead Corozal away from the UDP and into prosperity with the PUP and Party Leader John Briceño.
Continued from page 1 the Prime Minister ended with a denial that the Private Plane did come in the harm was already done. If the person(s) that allegedly came in any Private Plane were carriers of Covid-19 this can definitely be a serious charge on the UDP administration in general and specifically on those that directly gave the go-ahead for the flight to come in. The very rich in the world are welcome to Belize but that comes the responsibility of following our laws and not expecting extra-legal treatment. The UDP government is desperate for US dollars. While Dean Barrow continues to punish the poor he allows the rich to do what they want. The result might be a widespread outbreak for which he is responsible In fact, following our laws multiplies the safety of our visitors and of our very own Belizeans whose lives our laws are designed to protect and enhance.

JUSTICE PREVAILS: ILLEGAL TRANSFERS REVOKED Continued from page 1 system; they have revealed truth and inconsistencies. We still believe that we are right and are justified in defending our people. My good people of Cayo Northeast, we will not allow the current administration to steal this election. We’ve proved beyond a shadow of a doubt illegal registrations and transfers are happening here in our constituency. These 6 were only of 15 objections up until July 10th. From July 10th until now there are a further 95 illegal UDP applications for registrations in Cayo Northeast. We are making it known that we will continue to object to every single illegal registration by the UDP into Cayo Northeast. Forward we go, against corruption in all forms, starting with voter suppression. We will continue fighting to protect your rights and we will expose those who seek to manipulate us. The work continues.

PUP ALWAYS LOOKING OUT FOR THE POOR
t would interest our readers to know that for seven of the last eight months the Southside of Belize City has remained under a State of Emergency (SOE). This means that the rights and freedoms of those citizens have been suppressed, because of the authorities’ inability to curb crime. This last SOE has been introduced as the punishment for two recent murders. In the same period of time there have been murders both in the North and South of the country but those have not triggered similar SOE in those areas. We have heard our Commissioner of Police call troubled youth “little monsters” and blame parents for the lack of discipline in their children. It bears a strong resemblance to the lack of discipline in the Police Department where repeat offenders are allowed to continue serving with but a slap on the wrist and little if any administrative action. Over the same course of time we have witnessed many instances where the Police Department that should be “Working in Partnership with the community for a better Belize,” actually infringes with increasing violence and impunity the basic human rights of those they should serve and protect. We are left to wonder then if indeed the Southside of the city suffers from an acute and chronic case of racial and social profiling. They have been hardest hit by the economic hardship of the COVID-19 pandemic. The NHI has had its funds drastically reduced and so services have been limited for those who can least afford it, on the Southside. The education assistance for children moving from primary school to high school has been reduced by a third, again affecting those students who need it the most. There has been no effort to attract industries to the area that would provide stable and permanent employment for the residents of Southside. Neither has there been any program that offers certified technical training for jobs currently available in the job market. A few days ago the member for Pickstock, after twelve and a half years, suddenly had an attack of conscience. He admitted that his government had done nothing to alleviate the situation of the people of Southside which include the people of Pickstock. We would like to remind the honourable member that he sat in Cabinet for these twelve long years and did little else for Picstock but scratch his… ahm beard. However as a member of Cabinet he bears collective responsibility for all they did and more to the point all they failed to do. For years the PUP have clamored for reforms that would bring us closer to social justice. Those reforms include the approaches to at risk communities like the Southside and also the reforms and better equipment of the Police Department that would bring back trust for a department which does not have the confidence of the public because it is rife with corruption, cover ups and impunity. While his moment of clarity came just a tad late, Minister Elrington’s statement was a damning confirmation of the UDP. “It has to be some failure Madame Speaker on the part of government…it is our responsibility to make sure those children are well cared for and looked after.” This is the first time we are in agreement with the member from Pickstock. He and his UDP have been a failure to the poor and marginalized of the old capital especially. The government has failed the people of the Southside, and now they are being punished simply because of the geographic area where they reside. Just this week a talk show host on Hablemos in the West summed it up best. Marissa Alamilla said “PUP always look out for the poor people!” It is with people centered initiatives like the raising of the minimum wage to be on par with a living wage that monies will be directed specifically to Belizeans who most need it. The UDP gave tax breaks to the rich land owners, let us not forget the $90M in land taxes that were forgiven by the UDP. Almost immediately a loan was received in the same amount, on the one hand debt forgiveness to rich landowners and then a $90M loan we must all pay through taxes. The PUP believes in social justice, it is one of the founding tenets of the party. Poverty, injustice, corruption, impunity have no place in our society. We must all work together to build a Belize that works for everyone!!! #planBelize…

BELLY of the
BEAST
Simple Sedi Following Sedi Elrington’s rant in the House of Representatives, some wise person on Facebook posted – we wish Sedi was a UDP Minister! This fool was suddenly compassionate and wise beyond all expectation. He lamented the poverty in Belize and the fact that youths have no jobs or opportunities and have to hustle on the streets to survive. He bashed the UDP for failing Belizeans, and for not in its three terms coming up with a basic plan or project to deal with poverty. He condemned the UDP for raising little monsters, because they failed to stick to their mandate and failed in their responsibility to the children of Belize. Sedi was on point. He was articulate, eloquent and spoke complete and total truth. Hell, we at the Belize Times wish that he was a UDP Minister too. He would have shaken up things. Oh wait! This idiot is a UDP Minister. In fact, he is one of the most senior UDP Ministers. He has sat in on every decision made in Cabinet, and he has played an integral role in the same neglect and abuse and incompetence he ranted about. While Sedi was going on and on, Dean Oliver had this queer look on his face. Like WTF! You know that look you get when you suffer chronic constipation? Listen – just go dammit. You people are just taking up valuable space. Make room for real leaders who have a heart for the people, the brainpower to get things done right and the political will to move the country forward. Señor Stupid Here’s the thing. Pablo Marin is a complete moron. We’ve all established that. We saw him trying to read a couple lines off a page in the House Monday and even my two year old was embarrassed. Anyway, that established point aside, there is reliable information that a petition is circulating in the Ministry of Health to force Pablo to stay in Corozal and not to come back to the office in Belmopan. According to sources, the terrible electrician turned even more terrible Minister is known as a man who is always around and about
05 5
in his constituency. In fact, so dedicated is this wonderful fellow that he is knocking on closed doors even late at night. We’re sure he’s only there to talk politics and convince constituents to vote. Keep your minds out the gutter. Anyway, Pablo goes on these visits, then heads back to the Ministry where he’s all over the place mingling. Employees have gotten enough, and so this week the petition started circling. We’re not sure if the employees are genuinely scared of catching COVID-19 or they’re afraid that they’ll get dumb by association if Pablo comes around too much. Pobrecito We wonder how Patrick Faber feels right now to know that he’s leader in name only and has less power at his fingertips than a man with no arms. We know, because we know, that Dean Oliver was forced to go with the lesser of two evils when it came to the choice between porky pig from Belmopan and Patrick. We know also that Dean Oliver realized that he could never control porky, while Patrick is still just a boy in a man’s body (sort of) and is easy to control. But nobody wants him there. Imagine that in the House of Representatives, the leader elect of the party is forced to sit in the punk seat and not in the position of power. We feel kinda sorry for the boy, but not so much. The thing is that the UDP will never win the next general election, not with Patrick or if they had chosen John. So we think it’s time for them to just get the hell out of Belmopan. Way past time. Panic This COVID thing is really scary. Because of the incompetence of the UDP, it’s totally out of control. And no wonder. The man tasked with enforcing the laws is on camera talking about being cute and not being there yet, but every time he manages to catch his breath for a photo op, he doesn’t have on his mask. Just over a week ago, he played dress up soldier in BDF camouflage, but no mask. This week it was posing with members of the Coast Guard – no social distancing and no mask. But these fools are on television blaming Belizeans for the spread of Covid-19. Suddenly Dean Oliver is Pontius Pilate and is washing his hands. Now we are the stupid, irresponsible ones, he says. It’s our fault because we don’t listen, apparently. God help us, because when this crap hits the fan very soon, it’s going to be very, very bad. Our advice – stay home and stay safe. If we wait for these jackasses to come up with any relatively sensible plan, we’re toast. True story.

QUESTIONS TO THE MINISTERS
1. Considering the fact that the Foreign Minister has finally found his conscience, will the Foreign Minister please inform the Belizean people how much is being spent on missions abroad? And will the Foreign Minister also say if ambassadors who are in Belize have had their allowances discontinued? 2. Will the Minister of Housing please say if he agrees or disagrees with the Foreign Minister that having been the Representative of Mesopotamia for more than 25 years, he considers himself responsible for the state of poverty and neglect in the constituency of Mesopotamia? 3. Considering that Boots Martinez was the Minister responsible for Poverty Alleviation in Port Loyola and, also considering the fact that Port Loyola is one of the poorest constituencies in Belize, will the Hon. Boots Martinez tell the people of Pickstock why they should even consider him as a candidate in the upcoming General Elections? 4. Will the Minister of Health, please inform the Belizean public of exactly how much PPEs, masks, and other protective equipment are presently available in the country of Belize, and will the Minister also say if measures are in place to meet the demand for hospital beds should the number of COVID positive patients continue to increase? 5. Stay safe Belize. Please, please, wear your masks in public, wash your hands frequently, practice social distance, be considerate and be safe.

UDP needed to have done the work
By Senator Elizabeth Bennett Everything, every single thing we do, every goal we set takes work to accomplish what we desire. At times the work may be tedious, weary, feels and seems never-ending, unpleasant, but the reverse is also true. And in the end, we achieve the desired outcome even if it was jumping on that bike to the grocery store to buy the much needed milk to feed the children. That was WORK that needed to be done so the children would not be hungry. So really, what WORK has been done to stabilize the Belizean people over the past twelve years? That analysis of WORK would mean the writing of a book fitting for the international best seller. But because Belizeans are smart people, just a review of the last term of office

for the UDP, we can see where the WORK was done – ROAD WORKROAD CONSTRUCTION! Hence, because the people were neglected of opportunities to self-develop and self-empowerment (aided out of poverty), as a country we now face the grim hard cold reality of the increase in crime and violence in different pockets of society resulting in tragic loss of lives especially to our business owners. We are now left to deal with the band-aid solution by the UDP that of an extended Public State of Emergency for the Southside of Belize City. The extension for two more months was passed yesterday Wednesday August 5th 2020 in the senate. So the residents of the Southside will see the light of day on October 6th, 2020. Apparently this is the only WORK that the UDP can do for our people in an effort to deal with the increasing number of varied crimes. Yet, when Dr. Louis Zabanah and I presented some solutions on how to address the crime and violence in Belize, the usual rhetoric is heard from the UDP Senators. What did the PUP do to eliminate crime in Belize? The past is something we don’t have control over. Neither can anyone have control of tomorrow. What is of utmost importance is the WORK or NO WORK on the part of the government to create and sustain a society that has ZERO TOLERANCE FOR CRIME.
So rather than just simply pointing fingers to the past, the WORK should have been and still should be the need for social research to identify factors that are impacting. Some sectors of our society resort to crime as a way of life. Research does show that poverty is a factor. The father or mother that was laid off from his/her job may steal to feed his/ her hungry children. Such action is illegal as there are laws against stealing. But others will argue in defence if it’s a first offense and be understanding to the motive of such action with solution as you could have washed cars, you could have wash people clothes, or you should have begged for food… But given the intense financial setbacks in our country long before COVID and even now since COVID struck, desperate people do desperate things. All that mothers or fathers hear is his/her hungry baby crying for food. So it is obvious that one solution would be to create jobs for those unemployed. But for some sectors of our troubled society also lies in the fact that the UDP did not do the WORK needed to nip the crime situation in its early years of their rule. There was no reason to bargain with gangs, worst yet provide them with salaries at the expense of the state. Those monies should have been used to conduct the needed research and plan educational program to re-condition the minds on public core values such as respect, trust, empathy, etc which has been eroded. A short literature review is showing that this social strategy has
many names, so whether we call it character education, value training, moral education, transmission of cultural values, or socialization it is obvious that Belize’s political leaders need to have the political will to do the WORK to stabilize our country. To my mind it is not an issue to be debated and it must be a high priority if Belize is to prosper and reach its fullest potentials as a developing nation. “People from all walks of life and myriad moral and ethical perspectives seem to agree that the moral fiber of our society has deteriorated (not just on Belize). Growing inequality and poverty, an erosion of family values, a decline in respect for authority, sex and violence on television, and growing gang behavior among youth are examples of such deterioration. The future will depend, in some measure, on society’s willingness and ability to struggle openly with moral dilemmas and make hard choices. A proper function of social studies education is the provision of opportunities to develop an ethical framework from which decisions may be derived. One characteristic of maturity is the ability to tolerate ambiguity. Appropriate educational experiences should provide early adolescents with the intellectual tools, based on the ethical principles described above, for participating in the ambiguous and complex realities of active and responsible citizenship.” Robert L. Stevens and Michael G. Allen (Teaching Public Values Three Instructional Approaches) University of Georgia Southern University in Stateboro.

Covid Report COVID-19 UPDATE
Fifty-one (51) samples were processed today for SARS-CoV2. We have identified a further 14 cases today, this is the second highest number of cases after yesterday’s record of 15. The breakdown is as follows: - 10 of the cases are related to the case identified on Sunday in San Pedro (some close contacts are still pending to be processed) - 1 case (in Belmopan) who was contact to the patient hospitalized at the Northern Regional Hospital - 1 contact related to the case identified in San Pedro yesterday (this would be a second cluster as they are not related to the initial case from Sunday) - 2 cases in San Pedro that don’t appear to be related to any of the above clusters but these are symptomatic patients that were picked up through the flu clinic routine and enhanced surveillance. One of these cases is a child. The provisional report in San Pedro is also indicating that at least 20 (twenty) symptomatic cases were swabbed at the flu clinic in San Pedro (not necessarily linked to any of the above cases. As we move along, we will have to reiterate that we have to assume every person we meet is to be treated as potential case and for which we must take the necessary safety precautions. Be safe all!

PUP Strongly Opposes Southside SoE Includes Excerpts from the Debate on August 3, 2020 Special Sitting of the House of Representatives
Extension for 60days of the State of Emergency on the Southside of Belize City.
Leader of the Opposition, Hon. John Briceño: Madame Speaker, it is really a sad day that one day after we celebrated Emancipation Day that we are locking down Southside yet another time. In effect we are restricting the movement of black people in the Southside. I think it would have been much more exciting if the government would have come today, the day after Emancipation Day to come up with a bold and exciting plan on what we would have done to fight crime in the Southside. ...We certainly regret that it has come to this.” On July 6t 2020 the UDP acknowledged that they had no answers to crime that was spiralling all over the country. So in angst and incompetence instead of resigning they moved their crosshairs in the form of a State of Emergency to their usual target— Belize City’s Southside where poverty and hopelessness has been sown 12 years ago by the United Democratic Party. They are reaping today. Now on August 3, in a sudden summon of a House Sitting the Prime Minister tabled a bill that extends this abuse of power unto and denial of the inalienable rights from the Southside poor. On its inception, doors were literally kicked down in the wee hours of the morning as the government swooped in with a totalitarian force. This is definitely not the wish of the majority of people, not by a long stretch of imagination. You would think that the SIX Southside Ministers would defend their constituents’ rights to be free. The logical thing would be that they would attempt to be innovative in initiating some ‘stimulus’ after 12 years of failure which could curb the lives of the Southside youths. But that’s not the UDP. They are trying to stretch their infamy all the way to their bitter constitutional end. The PUP are at this point with a clear vision and they made it known. Freetown Representative, Hon. Francis Fonseca: “Let me place in two points our
united commitment to guard jealously the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people we serve. A declaration of this nature of the creation of a state of emergency was never intended to be used arbitrarily or reflexively as a response to rising crime or fighting crime. A big emergency must always be used very sparingly and never done lately because we are dealing with the fundamental rights and freedoms of people. So there must be proper justification proper, support for doing so. The very motion say ‘having been satisfied.’ There is a high standard or bar in a declaration of a State of Emergency. There must be strong evidence. Second, we need to add the cave-
at that our security forces and those responsible for the execution and the implementation of these declarations and public emergencies. They should understand that this is no license to abuse people. That this is no permit to arbitrarily or improperly abuse or violate any rights or freedoms that our people enjoy. They have a sacred duty to protect the right of these citizens.” In his usual Faberian Fluster the unqualified and visionless UDP leader elect went on to say that he does not care for the minority. As with the rest of the UDP at the House sitting on August 3, Faber had a confused take on the latest attack on the Southside whom he claims have love for him. The UDP were in the house to extend a State of Emergency on the Southside of Belize City nothing else except tighten their grip on the poor. What can you expect from the latest champion of corruption and incompetence? In the same breath, Barrow, Faber, et al claimed that the Southside SoE extension was not a solution yet were determined to toe the confused UDP crookedness just for the sake of being in Cabinet and a part of the heartless and solutionless UDP. Sedi Embarasses Barrow Wilfred Elrington is now known as one who cannot heed his own advice. His relevance at this House sitting is only surpassed by his irrelevance. At the
August 3, HoR debate on the SS SoE extension, he was the first UDP(just before Faber copycatted) to say the bill was not a solution. Thereafter, he went on to derisively say the UDP had failed the young Southside residents and that the UDP did nothing in 12 UDP long years to ensure their success. But Wilfred capped it by ensuring he got paid for a couple more months for doing nothing. He supported the bill since he is in Cabinet. Hon. Julius Espat Lashes out at Elrington
All the Elrington openness sparked the ire of our PUP’s Hon. Julius Espat who minced no words in pointing out the hypocrisy of the man who is now an unwanted imposter feigning at being the representative for Pickstock. Espat stipulated that Sedi should be ashamed of being a UDP. Crickets could be heard from the UDP gaggle who were visibly awestruck at the verbal castigation of the duplicitous artificial one. Julius Espat: “But talk is cheap. Madame Speaker this gentleman
LIQUOR LICENSE NOTICES Notice is hereby given that Karim Perez is applying for a Beer Liquor License to be operated at “Karina Shop” located in San Felipe Village, Orange Walk District under the Intoxicating Liquor License Ordinance Revised Edition 1980. 099 the member from Pickstock sat in cabinet for the entire 12 years of his Party’s government. He had all the power in his hands to make a difference, to invest, to do everything that he is saying now Madame Speaker. Now at the time when he decides not the run he is becoming sanctimonious. That is hypocrisy at its highest. Ridiculous. Everything that he just said should have been implemented in 2008” Espat chided Elrington and the UDP for imposing the SoE extension on Belize’s Southside when they should be offering job opportunities. Why does Elrington not resign and be honourable? Espat suggested that question to Sedi who seemed to be on a ‘G1’ move given his new found irrelevance. Hon. Espat rounded off by saying the every UDP “should be ashamed” of having supported Barrow’s government. Hon. Oscar Requena, Toledo West
I want to say that the time has come that we put all or hands on the wheel to see how we can find a longterm sustainable solution to the problem that is faced by our people in the Southside. They are human beings too and we must care for them, we must work with them and ultimately find a way to make Belize a better place.

THE BELIZE TIMES
Barrow/Faber Painfully Planless
As Belize’s coronavirus numbers spiked principally due to citizens giving in the Texas-dollar via private jet and to the peso-Chetumal temptation spurred by economic need, Belize’s UDP tandem of leader of neglect Barrow and leader elect Faber had to pull the Philip Goldson’s International Airport off the runway from opening on August 15 and had to pullback the schools from resuming on August 10. Both were to occur smack in the middle of the super high risk Covid-19 once-in-a-centennial pandemic. In an August 5, 2020 press conference, the UDP political machinery jumped on the coronavirus spike to announce to the nation that they had no plan. Even as parents, the BNTU, the Opposition, and the public were leading weeks ago that our borders were not being managed, that our children and teachers were being placed at high risk with August 10/15 Openings and that the USA may not be the best tourist feeder nation at the moment with their uncontained coronavirus spread especially at our main tourist departure outlet states to open, the UDP
was unprepared. Pablo was at his worse stark eyed deer performance. No, he beat it out with the August 6 performance. Even the moderator forgot he was there. Faber finally realized schools could not open and announced he has NO plan B. Yet, he asks teachers to plan. Teachers cannot plan without a real workable time table. No wonder Faber is a failure he simply hopes that all will fix itself—he is the Champion of Corruption and Incompetence after all. Not to be left behind, Barrow also blamed every citizen including border jumpers for our coronavirus spikes. As the UDP is wont to do, Barrow blamed everyone for the UDP inaction except the UDP. And he also had no immediate plan. The only plan the people are waiting for is the real time unveiling #planBelize. The only arrival the people are clamoring for now is that of the new Prime Minister Briceño and the execution of said #planBelize that will show the coronavirus that it is no match for the indomitable Belizean dreams which will soon unfurl into a real nation of Belize that works for everyone.

Patrick Faber sits literally opposite to the side of where the Prime Minister sits. Petty Patrick Jason is in denial as he attempts to slough off the UDP imposed ‘elect’ title in front of his name. Patrick’s problem is twofold. He in his best Pablo mimicry throws a temper tantrum in the House all in vain. One cannot remove a Party tag with a Parliamentarian solution. Faber was sworn in as leader elect. He raised is right hand in front of the world and swore to be a good leader elect. Now his tantrums are a show as he tries to say he doesn’t want the ‘elect’ any more and –Š‘•‡ –Š‹”–›nj•‹š Č‹ÍľÍ¸ČŒ ™‘”Â?‡”• ™Š‘ ™‡”‡ –‡”Â?‹Â?ƒ–‡† ‘Â? ‰”‘—Â?†• ‘ˆ ”‡†—Â?†ƒÂ?…›Ǥ Š‡ that he has to wait until his amo y seĂąor BarÂ?ƒ–‹‘Â? ˆƒ…‡• ƒÂ? —Â?’”‡…‡†‡Â?–‡† …”‹•‹• ”‡•—Ž–‹Â?‰ ˆ”‘Â? –™‘ ’ƒÂ?†‡Â?‹…• – njͳ͝ ƒÂ?† --ENDS— row calls a General Election and for his corrupt ‹Â?…‘Â?’‡–‡Â?…‡ ƒÂ?† ‰”‡‡†Ǥ —” ’‡‘’Ž‡ Â?‡‡† –Š‡‹” Œ‘„• –‘ „‡ ƒ„Ž‡ –‘ •—’’‘”– –Š‡‹” incompetent UDP to win an election(not for ˆƒÂ?‹Ž‹‡•Ǥ – ‹• –Š‡ ”‹‰Š– –Š‹Â?‰ –‘ †‘Ǥ many terms) and for him to be re-elected in Col ‘Â?Â–ÂƒÂ…Â–ÇŁ ‹Â?•ˆ‘”† ƒ•–‹ŽŽ‘ ‡…”‡–ƒ”› ‡Â?‡”ƒŽ let who is waiting to vote for Oscar and to fight ÇŚÂ?ÂƒÂ‹ÂŽÇŁ •‡…‰‡Â?’—’̡‰Â?ƒ‹ŽǤ…‘Â? off John Saldivar in upcoming conventions. THE BELIZE TIMES
2020
Masks: Wear yours!! Birth month? Look out for the signs. Workplace? Look out for the logo. Favourite beer? Wait for the fizz. Chosen political party? They Got to Go! Visit your best of friend and they will reveal to you a kaleidoscope of tastes unearthing their multi personalities. Don’t worry the mask still contains your bff behind. Masks for some are a fashion statement beyond what socks, and underwear could ever reveal. Masks are out in the open and they automatically add a layer over a person’s God-given beauty. Covid has opened man’s inventiveness in a way that the same coronavirus did not anticipate. Yet, the mask of the day hides our smiles and frowns and furtively reveals more of a person’s character
than any other clothing piece ever did. Also, our cloth masks hide some of the despair our Belizeans are suffering. They add to what our eyes disclose. Eyes also tell many tales and, as much as masks hide, the eyes do not lie that our reality exists. Our government has failed us in the deepest of ways. It will never be forgotten how many were locked up and hungry. The UDP will never shake off how they allowed the coronavirus to take over. There is no one to blame Mr Barrow and Mr. Faber, only yourselves. Just go...the healing can then commence. We can then discard the masks and smile directly as the new day arrives with no UDP in sight.
-ContributedThe women of this country listened to the Foreign Minister of Belize in a presentation at the House of Representatives with great disbelief. SIX STEPS TO MAKE GOVERNMENT MORE ACCOUNTABLE First, we will ensure an Independent Public Accounts Committee. One that is strengthened so that substantive ministers cannot be members of the PAC. As well, all House Committee meetings, including PAC meetings will be open to the public and streamed live. Second, the Integrity Commission must do its job effectively. To do so it should no longer be controlled by the Party in Government. Likewise, we will put in place a mechanism to ensure the financial independence of the Integrity Commission with a budget to be approved by the National Assembly. They need the tools and personnel to get the job done! Third, the recent cases of misappropriation of government funds is a clear indication that we need a strong and independent office of the Auditor General. • The next PUP Government will ensure that the Auditor General’s Office has unrestricted access to information and with full powers of investigation, including subpoena powers to ensure that requests for information and documentation are complied with expeditiously. • The Auditor General’s office will be permitted to submit their budget directly to the National Assembly for approval. • Most important, we will ensure that the Auditor General is allowed to present reports directly to the National Assembly and not only to the Prime Minister. Fourth, the PUP will not only implement UNCAC, but we will also enact Campaign Finance Legislation. • In the first 100 days, the new PUP government will direct the Office of the Attorney General to draft Campaign Finance legislation which will be subject to national consultations and review before a final bill is tabled and passed into law. Fifth we must make the National Assembly function as the centerpiece of our government, complete with all requisite checks and balances. • That means that the next PUP Government will ensure a minimum of one House Sitting per month. And sixth now that Senator Aldo Salazar has finally released the findings of the Senate Select Committee on the hustle at the Department of Immigration. • We demand follow up action including criminal investigation and prosecution as deemed necessary.

Oscar Mira, Belmopan LONG LIVE THE VISION OF THE RT. HON. GEORGE C. PRICE The PUP, under the leadership and vision of the Right Honourable George Cadle Price, established the capital city of Belmopan. There were about 20 sites which were originally suggested which were then shortlisted into 5 sites namely, Mountain Pine Ridge, Roaring Creek village, Colonel English Creek, Melinda Forest Reserve and Stann Creek south. After much deliberation and careful consideration, the Capital City Committee decided to go with Roaring Creek village, where Belmopan is officially located today. The need for a capital city to be located inland was mainly due to the squalid conditions of Belize City at the time and the constant battering of the coastline by hurricanes. Hurricanes often affected the function of the government when it was needed the most. George Price decided he had enough of that and wanted the capital somewhere it would be safe and where it could be clean and properly planned. Fifty years later, we are proud to be celebrating the legacy of his vision. However, not everyone agreed with George Price’s vision. Some public officers refused to move to the new Capital forcing George Price to issue an ultimatum according to the Belize Billboard newspaper at the time - move or lose your job. Sometimes as a leader you have to make the tough call and push on through even when others don’t see your vision. There is so much more to George Price’s vision to Belmopan as the capital. He was looking at the interior of the country and wanted agriculture to be the leading economic pillar of our economy and moving the capital inland meant that new areas could be opened up and the resources of the area can finally be used for the prosperity of the people. He set for us a good foundation. It is now up to us to take it all the way home and build a safe, modern and prosperous capital city. We can do it! We will do it because we stand on the shoulder of men and women of courage. It is time to renew the vision and be bold again. Happy 50th Anniversary Belmopan! Today I was made aware of a post by the father of Mayor Khalid Belisle, accusing me of not “mixing” with poor people. I am not ashamed to say that not only have I been “mixing” with poor people for all my life, but I also experienced harsh poverty growing up. Many of you who know me and know my family know that we come from a humble, hardworking background. We lived in a small thatch-roofed home in Salvapan, that at the time we had no electricity or running water. My parents did everything they could to provide for myself and my 9 siblings, and for that I am forever grateful. At 18 years old I joined the Belize Defence Force and proudly served in various roles over the span of 22 years. My siblings and I worked our way out of poverty through education and perseverance, and we have never forgotten where we came from. For several years we have quietly invested in sports and education for families all around Belmopan. We did this not because we wanted praise or a pat on the back, but because we know first-hand what it is to struggle. It is low and disgraceful for my opponent and his operatives to try to smear me with such obvious, easily disproved lies about myself and my family. Perhaps their time would be better spent looking in the mirror and asking what this administration has done for poor people in the past 12 years.
and family are too because together we are Belize! On August 5, on Love FM and Estereo Amor studios, our conversations revolved around issues in Cayo Northeast and sound solutions we need to implement across the board. I realize I must be more vocal and speak out every chance I get. Illegal voter registration and transfers must end. We must not allow bribed voters to stain the voter’s list. We must abide by the Lands Act and award lots based on the criteria outlined. We cannot continue to allow that a recommendation is needed from a Minister or a Standard Bearer from the ruling party. Nepotism and coerced political loyalty cannot be the norm. We must revisit our trade agreements to maximize production and increase our exports. We must protect our farmers and producers. They have the ability to assist us in reducing our trade deficit. My good people of Cayo Northeast, we must be willing to work for the change we want to see. We are ready to stomp out corruption at every corner. We are ready to save Belize and build one that works for everyone. #planBelize #planificarBelize Andre Perez, Belize Rural North
The UDP government has signed a $10 Million USD agreement for phase 2 of the Caracol Road Project and yet Ambergris Caye, with a population of more than 20,000 residents STILL can’t get its HOSPITAL?! How long has Heredia known that he is lying to the face of the people? If Dean Barrow had not said it LIVE on the media the residents of San Pedro and Caye Caulker would have NEVER found out. The lies are endless and the people have had enough. We will be holding you accountable, your time is up. For years Heredia has promised the residents of San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker a piece of land. Who is actually living on this promise land? With electricity and running water? For over 12 years, both islands have not received any housing projects. No opportunity to families so they can stop renting and own their homes. Now we are in a pandemic and our residents continue to suffer. One of the major problems is housing. Residents of our islands had no option but leave their rented apartments because of losing their jobs and income. Our people deserve better. Our people deserve a housing project that is affordable and one that works for ALL. Our people deserve land with the necessary utilities available not unfilled mangrove/swamp without any electricity or water. Heredia your chance to deliver us a housing project is gone. The people are taking your lee piece a land but they will vote you OUT. Many of our residents remain without jobs while others are on half salary. Getting children back to school has been one of the greatest struggles that parents face as the beginning of school year approaches. Both islands are in desperate need of more classrooms and an affordable education. The UDP under Heredia has been promising both islands that more classroom will come, more schools will be opened and 17 years later we are still waiting. There will be no more waiting as his time is coming to an end in 2020. #VICTORYWITHANDRE #WEDESERVEBETTER Ramiro Ramirez, Corozal Northwest

The young women of Duck Run 3 came out in full force to discuss the formation of a women’s group and discussed different ways to generate more income to support themselves. They understand the value of having skills. They understand the value of relying on each other for support. They understand the value of having more activities for women especially in sports. The Village Chairman was present and threw his support behind the group. Their ability to earn and sustain themselves is just as important to every member of their community. The women of Duck Run 3 are the pillars of their community. By assisting them and facilitating their ideas, we are creating more avenues for all women across Belize. My people of Cayo Northeast, with less than 100 days until our projected date for General Elections, your vote will determine the fate of our nation. Your vote will determine the fate of our constituency. We have too long waited for all our citizens to get what was promised. Too long we have waited for meaningful change. Too long have we waited for a better and affordable lifestyle, not just for the self-proclaimed elites. We cannot continue to condone this culture where a few at the top hustle while Belizeans are left with less than crumbs. Voting is your right, your civil duty and responsibility. Do not sit this one out; not voting says that you do not care for Belize. Ensure you’re registered, and check that your friends

voters of the many projects that were accomplished in the area by the PUP and assured the residents that the PUP with Milin, will bring much needed progress to the area. The people expressed their concerns and stated that they aren’t asking for much but basic services that the local village council and that the area representative should be providing but has failed to do: 24-hour medical services, road rehabilitation and maintenance of streets and drains, assistance to farmers in the area and true representation from a leader who will be available to the people at all times and not only during election season. MILIN is committed to making it possible. He is a man of integrity and serious in making things happen. √We will WIN! √ We will SERVE! Hon. Rodwell Ferguson, Stann Creek West I was instrumental in pushing the voter registration list since re-register in Stann Creek West to 9000 registered voters and I can safely claim 65 percent of the voter population. I wanted to prove the point that Stann Creek West can be divided into two completely separate constituency and they will still be bigger than several constituency in Belize City. I am for re-districting but not so close to an election. The court has ruled so it is now on the table. After the election let’s go for it. As I listened to the attorneys about the voter in Fort George worth more than the voters in Stann Creek West. As an opposition member I am given only $ 7000.00 dollars per month if you divided that by 9000 that you get 0.78 cents per voter dividing Forth George $ 7000.00 dollars by 1650 voters you get you get $ 4.24 per voter. My opponents keep telling the voters I get $7000.00 per month and they are not getting there share. As I visit the villages I meet very sensible voters who do the maths themselves and realize it does make any sense The economy is ruined by this pandemic and people are really in need. I wish I could address all there needs. I do the best I can but I have grave limitation. The Prime Minister is now talking about an economic plan when his time is up. He had 12 years to boost this economy and he did nothing as the pandemic came the country is broke. Belizeans decision 2020 is yours. Hon. Oscar Requena, Toledo West

A post on Love FM FB page headline: Mayor of OW to be tested, surfaced and went across social media like wild fire. I want to make some clarification so that the citizens of Orange Walk Town have some sense of calm. Over the weekend, I got information on one of the person who have contracted the corona virus and after finding out who the person was, I immediately informed the health officer as to concerns based on the fact that on July 20th, the said individual visited my OW East Political Office. Upon this person arriving at my office, he wore his mask at all times whilst being in my office and had to also sanitize his hands upon entering the building. This individual sat more than 6 feet away from me and all the while wore his mask up until he left the building. It is therefore based on this findings that I made the request to the Health authorities to kindly interview my OW East office staff and myself and have made the request for us to be swabbed in order to rule out any doubts we may have. I felt, it was my responsibility to ensure I immediately informed the Health authorities because as a parent myself and those of my staff who also have their families, felt that it is important that all get tested in order to have a peace of mind. I want to reiterate that requesting to be tested, does not mean or imply that any of us have, but we want to rule out any possibility. As the Mayor of the Town, I know it is my duty to ensure I clear up the headline and as such, I have given such interview so far to Love FM and CTV3 News. I ask all residents of Orange Walk Town to kindly please continue to practice social distancing, wearing their mask, and washing their hands regularly. Please keep safe everyone. Belizeans we must ensure everyone is following the protocols. Wear your mask! Wash your hands regularly I wish all the best on those recent 15 cases of which 11 are in the OW area. #stopthespread #followtheprotocols #besafe We need CHANGE. Hearts of Steel
By Gilroy Usher, PUP Standard Bearer Port Loyola A portion of government’s press release for the second phase of the Covid 19 financial relief states: “Workers who have been laid off because of Covid-19 and self-employed persons, who have lost their income as a result of Covid 19 may apply.” With those few words the government quietly made it known its decision does not to include persons who were unemployed (not formally employed) before Covid-19 in the second phase of the financial relief for hardship caused by the coronavirus. It was a decision made by uncaring men and women with cold hearts. For clarity the unemployed refers to domestic workers, tradesmen, food vendors, handymen, lawn keepers, and other persons who offer their services informally to care for their families. Whenever there is a national health crisis and a major decline in the economy of any country as in the case of Belize for the past five months, it is a fact that those who are unemployed (not formally employed) suffer the most hardship. That’s because other persons in the community
have less funds to hire their services. It is therefore not only necessary but simply fair and just that the most vulnerable group in the society be included in any financial assistance for hardship caused by the coronavirus, when their back is against the wall as is the case today. The bread of the ministers of this county is buttered on both sides and around the edge. They don’t understand the hardship ordinary men and women are going through to survive daily. The ministers squander over $1/4 million each for spanking new late model vehicles for themselves as if that hefty cost for a vehicle is peanuts. They enriched themselves and their cronies with millions of dollars from bloated road contracts, and they have nothing to show for millions of dollars in overseas loans that the Belizean people have to repay. Nevertheless these same self-centered ministers are now denying financial assistance for hardship caused by the coronavirus to all those persons, who were unemployed before the pandemic. When it comes to the most vulnerable group in Belize, the unemployed, the UDP leaders of this country have hearts of steel.

VOICE OF THE COMMON MAN
IMPLODING WITHIN - SEDI DECAPITATES THE UDP By Hilly Bennett There’s an unsettling feeling amongst the citizenry, that Belize, has become a failed state. The term “failed states” used to mean countries that couldn’t govern their own territory. Today, it encompasses those countries that have lost control of their own financial affairs. Belize? It is abundantly clear that the United Democratic Party is incapable of governing. The economy needs intubation. The health care system is haemorrhaging, poverty and inequality festers to boiling pus, whist the rampant violence, the unrest remains unabated. During a special sitting of the National Assembly, in an act of lustration, Wilfred ’Sedi ’ Elrington decapitated the United Democratic Party for its failures to attend to the issues affecting society and country. Clearly the UDP is imploding from within. Previously, Gapi Vega walked away from the party dissatisfied over the interference with the leadership convention and the eventual outcome. Adding insult to injury, the UDP Dangriga constituency committee pronounced Papa Mena a total failure and the need for a convention. However, Sedi’s compelling parliamentary presenta-
tion could be considered the Barrow administration’s death knell and the final nail in the political coffin of the Prime Minister and his worthless cohorts. Consequently, Wilfred Elrington ascribed a failing grade, like a wayward student, to his party. Suggestively, the United Democratic Party has rightfully earned a multiyear expulsion. Speaking to the State of Emergency, sixty days being imposed on Southside Belize, Sedi did not mince words. Sedi directly faulted his party. Wilfred Elrington at the August 3 Special House of Representatives Sitting: “The root cause of the problem is absence of capacity and to treat with this problem properly, we don’t have to be coming back here over and over to impose states of emergency we have to find a solution to the problem.” “The average Belizean boy, the average girl out there can’t come up with fifty cents as we speak, can’t find job, don’t have skill, can’t read, can’t write, cant compute after thirty seven years of independence. Clearly we have failed them.”

THE BELIZE TIMES
THINK ABOUT IT
WE ARE STILL BLESSED One of the few things that Belizeans are afraid of is the coronavirus. We see and hear too much of what the virus is doing to countries all over the world. We have every reason to be afraid. The bad news over the weekend was that 15 persons have caught the virus. This happened in Corozal, Orange Walk and San Pedro (the tourist capital of our country). Most of the 15 infections have been traced to contact sources of the infected persons. It would appear the virus is not yet loose in our communities. Let us redouble and triple our individual efforts to do all we can to prevent any spread. The weekend discoveries have served to spook the government into breaking off from opening schools and opening the International Airport. America is the worst infected country in the world and Belize government was hell-bent on opening our airport to American tourists and visitors. Only one infected tourist is needed to infect the hotel staff who in turn infect their families and friends and before we catch on, bam! The virus is widespread in Belize. When the government wanted Belizeans to vote yes to going to the International Court on the Guatemalan claim, they spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on posters, huge billboards and on television advertisements. When the government ended the Covid-19 state of emergency lockdown they failed to engage the public in major education campaign to stay vigilant, wear masks, and keeping social distance. They conducted a minimal campaign along the border area where smuggling and crossings occur. So called “border jumpers” have been bringing in the virus one by one. It is said in our folklore that one, one full basket. Let us help the villages and residents at these border areas to please stop risking lives. We may need to organize a method of selling them their needed items at the prices they smuggle for, in order to control their crossing. PATRICK FABER SELL US OUT Patrick Faber is the Minister of Education and of Culture, under his portfolios is the National Institute of Culture and History. From all appearances Patrick Faber is a creole. Creoles are primarily the great, great grandchildren of black slaves and white slaves matters. Mr. Faber, or Honorable Faber as he would prefer to be called is one of the fortunate creoles who is well educated. Which is to say he knows better. How can an educated creole, who is privileged to be Minister of Education for twelve years and a half years, consistently fail to say or do anything concerning the 1st August 1838 when slavery was officially ended in Belize. He must know, by now, that in the English-speaking Caribbean countries (CARICOM) 1st August is a huge event, fully commemorated. We are disappointed Honorable Faber, Actually we are angry. Shucks! You are contributing to keeping our people in mental slavery, ignorant of their history and their culture. We are tempted to heap invective on you, call you an uncle Tom, a house slave, a Judas who has sold out your unfortunate creole brothers and sisters. But we won’t. But ponder this – when you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. UDP DI TRY THIEF DI ELECTION There is widespread voter fraud going on by UDP politicians. They can only be doing this on the scale that it is happening because they know the election officers at Elections and Boundaries department are working with them. What the UDP politicians are doing is offering money and land papers to persons to switch from the area they presently live to a “safe house” in another area. The UDP owners of the safe house have been told how to lie in case they are taken to Court for the criminal offense they are committing. They are not likely to be charged because the crooked election officers are colluding with the dishonest politicians who are bribing with money and land papers. Port Loyola is big in this election fraud by UDP. Pickstock busy, so is Queen Square, Cayo too. The reports we are getting is that this illegal practice is widespread. Those involved need to be named and shamed and charged. BELIZE PEACE MOVEMENT The Belize Peace Movement has confused themselves. They put out a Press Release attacking the PUP over their districting Court case. The PUP has been honest and straight forward with the Belizean people. Should the PUP become government as everyone is hoping, the PUP will deal with the issue of re- districting within its first year. That is a firm public commitment by Hon. Johnny Briceno. The UDP has been in government for twelve and a half years and as with

so many important National issues, have done nothing. Under section 90 and 91 of the constitution the issues of the increase or redivision of electoral divisions must be laid before National Assembly. Any increase will call for a law to be passed. The UDP government controls the majority in the National Assembly. The PUP cannot pass any re-districting proposal. Any criticism must be placed squarely at Dean Barrow and his motley crew. The Belize Peace Movement is barking up the wrong tree. They may wish to get some facts on the bribery and corruption going between UDP politicians and the crooked officers in the Elections office. HUNGER GAMES The Commissioner of Police, no doubt with the approval of his Minister and the government is offering a reward to Police officers who carry out the most arrests for mask and social distance offenses. Never heard of any such weirdness. Imagine the wholesale abuse that will happen as Police try to earn extra money by rounding up every suspect. “Hunger Games” has come to Belize.

The Passing of a Respected Engineer Frederic (Rick) McKenzie By Keith Pierce 7-14-2020 - Old Dominion University lost one of its most respected engineering faculty members with the passing of Frederic (Rick) McKenzie, professor and chair of the Department of Computational Modeling and Simulation Engineering (CMSE) in the Batten College of Engineering and Technology (BCET). McKenzie, who provided 21 years of dedicated and invaluable service to ODU, died over the weekend. He was 55. Old Dominion University President John R. Broderick said McKenzie was a remarkable colleague who worked tirelessly for both the benefit of the University and his engineering profession. “While Dr. McKenzie’s untimely passing leaves us grieving and missing him, the support and encouragement he was known to give students, staff and faculty will live on,” Broderick said. “I believe his commitment and passion for his work will continue to be an inspiration.” “This is a devastating loss for our BCET family,” said Ben Stuart, interim dean of the College. “He has left a lasting imprint on our College, the University, and the broader engineering community and will be greatly missed.” Well-respected in his field, McKenzie served as principal and co-prin-
cipal investigator on projects involving software architectures for simulation, behavior representation in simulations and medical modeling and simulation. His work led to several publications relating research in modeling human-like intelligent agents, including crowds, formal descriptions of distributed simulation architectures, objective measures of successful prostate surgery and augmenting standardized patients. Many of these projects also involved virtual reality and scientific visualization. “Rick was a passionate advocate for his students, staff and faculty,” Stuart said. “He was a dedicated leader who strove for excellence in his programs and was a significant contributor
to the evolving vision for the BCET.” Most recently, recognizing a critical need by health-care workers for personal protection equipment, McKenzie led a team of students and faculty in the development of an open-source mask designed with a removable filter for health-care providers at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). McKenzie’s partnership with CHKD goes back much further. In 2018, working with Dr. Robert Kelly, chief of surgery at CHKD, McKenzie and a team developed a 3D scanning tool to track improvement of chest deformities in children and teens. The technology was so remarkable it attracted the attention of hospitals in Korea, China and France after Kelly and McKenzie presented it at a conference hosted by the Chest Wall International Group in Seoul, South Korea. Prior to that, McKenzie’s team had already developed a simulation to help train doctors to perform a procedure that was developed in 1987 by Dr. Donald Nuss at CHKD for treating pectus excavatum, a chest wall abnormality most common in children. “Surgical simulation is a hot topic in medicine right now, which is why a few years ago we asked Dr. McKenzie for help developing a training tool for the Nuss procedure. Along the way, we had also been working on these nonsurgical treatments, which is when he agreed to develop a simulator for those procedures,” said Kelly. “Dr. McKenzie was a tremendous asset to ODU and to our region. He had an incredible intellect, with the
25 rare ability to work in many different fields. He was also an honorable and gracious man. He made a tremendous difference in many lives and will be keenly missed.” McKenzie received his Ph.D. in computer engineering from the University of Central Florida in 1994. Before joining ODU, he was a senior scientist at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), serving as principal investigator for several distributed simulation projects. At SAIC, he was a team leader on a large distributed simulation system. Before joining SAIC, McKenzie worked as a student researcher on projects involving the NASA Kennedy Space Center and NASA Marshall Space Flight Center. His several years of research and development experience in the software and artificial intelligence fields included object-oriented design and knowledge-based systems. Both his M.S. and Ph.D. work were in artificial intelligence - focusing on knowledge representation and model-based diagnostic reasoning. “Rick was one of the most talented and intelligent professionals on campus,” said Austin Agho, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “He was a friend to many and a problem solver who was always focused on ways to use his skills for the good of others. He will be greatly missed.” McKenzie is survived by his wife, Issel, and two sons, Karl and Connor. A private funeral mass took place on Friday, July 24, 2020 in the morning at 11:00 a.m. the Church of the Ascension, Virginia Beach, Virginia USA. (ODU.edu)

PUP SOUND BITES AT ADJOURNMENT House of Representatives on August 3, 2020
Orange Walk Central, Party Leader Hon. John Briceño: It is important that today the PUP makes its position abundantly clear as to the redistricting exercise and the holding of the next General Elections. On Friday, I was floored when I heard what the PM said on television about Andrew Marshalleck. And I quote, ‘Andrew Marshalleck, is he the, or one of the official lawyers of the Peoples’ United Party? The PUP wants the elections postponed.’ end quote. Today there is a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of Belize against the UDP government to hold a redistricting exercise as soon as possible. Let me make the following points very clear, abundantly clear: 1. The PUP is not in favour of any postponement of the elections. In fact, we have been calling the elections from last year. Do not use this excuse to postpone the elections just because your party is breaking up. You need to call the Elections now! 2. The PUP is not a part of that lawsuit or any lawsuit for any redistricting at this time. And while Mr. Andrew Marshalleck is a PUP supporter he is NOT representing the PUP in this lawsuit. 3. Within the first year, a new PUP administration WILL have a redistricting exercise, and we will ensure that it is done fairly and with full consultations and transparency. Madame Speaker let me put it again clearly and simply: Mr. Prime Minister Call the Elections now. Stann Creek West, Hon. Rodwell Ferguson: Money issues are made available through the Ministry of Education. Stann Creek West is the biggest constituency in Belize. Regardless of the help we are getting there is still no equity in the issue of assistance to elected members of this national assembly. For this year, the Ministry of Education got a warrant to assist representatives with Education assistance. For those who are elected members of the UDP they are getting sixty five thousand to assist with Education that adds up to One Million Two Hundred Thirty Five Thousand Dollars. For an unelected UDP standard bearers. I assume there are twelve. I know that in Mesopotamia and Port Loyola there are elected members and two standard bearers. I hope they are not both getting assistance. The UDP caretakers are getting thirty thousand dollars. There is no provision for the standard bearers for the People’s United Party. We the PUP representatives are getting three thousand to assist. (Given the math)Every elected member should be getting Fifty Two Thousand Dollars Six Hundred and Twelve Dollars. All the PUPs are now getting Thirty Three Thousand which is what ONE UDP is getting to help with Education. It is unfair and unjust especially in this pandemic when the people are crying for assistance. The people will send you a strong message at the polls whenever you decide to call this election. Our people have been robbed of what is theirs. Cayo Northeast, Hon. Landy Habet: We have a failing and deteriorating health system. Despite the fact that in March 19, 2015 the then CEO stood up at a press conference and announced that his government was getting a grant thirty million dollars from the European government for a new wing at the Belmopan Regional Health Hospital. Some monies were to be used for the refurbishing of the failing infrastructure the Northern and Southern Regional Hospitals. Today we have not seen that happen as yet. And then, on September 24, 2015 a few weeks before the last General Elections, he again announced the same thirty million dollars for the construction of a brand New Hospital for the Western Regional at Belmopan. Today, not a stone has been turned. Today, the Benque Polyclinic seems like it was fall apart. There have been several inspections and nothing is done for repair. This is a health and human hazard. Basic medicines are lacking. Poor quality laboratory and ambulance services are issue. There is negligible
services in terms of ultrasound machinery. There are no tomography and imaging available. The people never come first with the UDP. Raising false hopes in the catastrophically afflicted poor is despicable. Not even with more than twelve billion dollars, of those a little over 3 billion was allocated to the health system and we cannot see the improvement. Orange Walk South, Hon. Jose Mai: It was clear today that Covid-19 has no political lines. We are all vulnerable. We have to work together. It means we have to listen and take advice. It matter not who gives the advice, PUP or UDP. I was privy to serve in the Agriculture Covid Response Committee. We prepared proposals to submit through the coChair. We were not listened to, maybe thrown away. Now there is a Poultry shortage. This is a learning experience and we have to learn from our mistakes. Poultry and beans is the cheapest source of protein, in our country. So when they cannot afford poultry then they cannot afford the more expensive meats like pork and beef. When we did not buy from the producers directly they ended up having large amounts of product in the freezers. Then they could not buy feed to for the birds, the same was for pork and beef. So cash flow was a problem. They could not empty the freezers so what happened they had to kill birds or sell at cheap rates and now we have a shortage. This is temporary. The good news is that people are consuming poultry almost as fast was when the tourism industry was open. But we cannot be putting them through this when the government could have helped. It is very expensive to restart poultry, swine or cattle industry. It is costly to restart. Let us consider our farmers. Consider the producers. It is a cycle. Everyone has a refrigerator. You can free up space and then get cash flow. Not having money to feed the birds is a disaster. I want to ask the government today. With the money that they care getting in relief and other programs, let us make an effort so that the farmers can benefit directly from this money. Let us help the farmers who are in dire need this time. Toledo East, Hon. Mike Espat: We live right along the Guatemalan border. The people who are responsible to take care of our kids in the schools. Teachers have been asking for basins, soap, and detergent in order to keep the kids properly clean. Some of them have no water system. This virus is deadly. When we dealing with kids they will play and touch one another. We need to caution. We have also been having reports on the road going to Corazon and Crique Sarco. Once those buses start going, we will have problems when children and teachers are going to school. The Ministry of Works needs to be aware of the conditions. We all need to be prepared for the worse. We need to take this matter much more seriously with our kids. Toledo West, Hon. Oscar Requena: Farmers in the Toledo in the border areas producing pepitos and other. They want government to help them find a market to sell those products. They are in the harvesting season and traditionally this is sold to Guatemala. The border is close and now they are stuck. They are seeking government intervention. They have invested heavily and they expect a return and they don’t want their product to perish. We hope to be able to get the government to support the farmers to market their product. I was very happy with my visit to the allspice farm in Golden Stream Village. They have been producing black pepper for a very long time. They are saying that they have enough to supply to local market. Enough black pepper. It is a very good product. Again, the investor would like government support to market his product locally. It would also go a long way in saving foreign exchange and also stimulate the economy by providing employment. We would like to ask the relevant ministries to provide support for our farmers.

Orange Walk Town Council: “The Work Continues.” ket!
Message from the OWTC: Reference Closure of the Mar-
The Orange Walk Town Council hereby informs the general public that effective tomorrow the market area will be closed temporarily to vendors and customers. This is to allow for the full sanitization of that area. This decision has come about due to the fact that one of the Covid19 patient had and has been conducting business at the Fort Cairns Market Plaza. Those affected have all been placed in home quarantine. In order to avoid the spread of this very deadly virus, we have taken the decision to close the market temporarily. In addition, we will place stricter rules as it relates to persons vending at the Market Area. Any vendor found in contravention of these rules will be evicted permanently from the market area. This decision has come in order to protect the wider citizenry and to ensure full compliance by vendors doing business at the market.
Belize City Council, Always ‘Bout the People It’s the third edition of our annual Back to School Drive and the Belize City Council is once again honored to assist the children of our BCC family members who are no longer with us. This initiative has given us an outlet to support the families of those who remain closest to us in spirit and we are proud to provide packages of backpacks and school supplies to these young individuals as they prepare for the new school year. We hold this project dear to our hearts and continue to find ways
to give back to our people as they fight through daily challenges. In addition we were delighted to hand over sanitary packages consisting of masks and thermometers to multiple primary schools such as Ebenezer Primary School, Wesley Lower School, Trinity Methodist Primary School, Queen Street Baptist Primary School and St. Luke’s Methodist Primary School. We are pleased to continue our service. ~Your Belize City Council...

U – Ungraded meaning that is not assessable since he was guilty of inaction. F – Definitely did not do anything to help the people of Belize. A+ – He seemed to be happy with helping himself. Future Outlook: With so much inaction on BIG issues happening around him, Patrick Joshua is eons away from being a leader. When half of a few delegates from a divided party vote for you there is a Patrick Joshua Faber demise awaiting. Since Patrick Joshua has to go through an election against a politically-inert Saldivar and the outcome is a virtual TIE then Patrick Joshua should start thinking of an improbable 2035 run. Recommendation: Mr. Faber should go to John Briceño and request tips on how to beat Oscar Arnold. The UDP will be extremely lucky to come out of elections 2020 with a person in the House to be the UDP Leader of the Opposition.

The CDC Just Released a Report on Kids Spreading COVID-19
By Leah Groth Since the start of the pandemic, researchers have been puzzled by how children are impacted by COVID-19. When the first cases of the virus were reported out of Wuhan, China, it seemed as though children weren't even being infected. Soon after we learned that children could in fact contract the virus, though were less likely to develop a severe infection as adults. It was then revealed that children could be asymptomatic spreaders of the virus, meaning that they could pass it on to others without ever developing symptoms. As schools across the country are set to reopen—many for in-person instruction—the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a new study centering on a super spreader event at a sleepaway camp in Georgia that may make educators and policymakers rethink their strategies. Children of All Ages May Spread Coronavirus The report, published by the CDC on Friday, suggests that children of all ages are susceptible to coronavirus and likely spread it to others. It is centered on a virus outbreak that occurred last month in Georgia at a sleepaway camp. Of the 344 campers, who had a median age of 12, and staffers, with a median age of 17, who were tested for the virus, 260 tested positive for the virus —more than three-quarters. "The overall attack rate was 44% (260 of 597), 51% among those aged 6–10 years, Continued to the Right à
Mexico’s school year to begin with instruction on television (AP) Distance learning will begin for more than 30 million Mexican school children Aug. 24, but a return to classrooms will remain an uncertain goal, the country’s education secretary said Monday. Secretary Esteban Moctezuma and executives from the country’s largest television networks presented in broad strokes a plan to put educational instruction on television. Moctezuma said that risks to in-person education continue being too high. Officials fear children could become coronavirus carriers, infecting relatives at home. “We wanted to return to in-person classes, but it is not possible, nor prudent,” Moctezuma said. Students will not return to classrooms until the government’s version of a stoplight to evaluate the pandemic’s risk is safely at green. Throughout Latin America, nearly all schooling is being carried out online or through television as the pandemic continues to surge here. School districts around the world are struggling with the decision, knowing that for most students there is no substitute for in-person instruction. Moctezuma cited several countries that had opened schools and then had to close them as infections spread. 44% among those aged 11–17 years, and 33% among those aged 18–21 years," the CDC noted. As far as symptoms, the CDC only had data for 136 people. 36 people reported no symptoms, while 100 children and staff members (74 percent) reported symptoms of fever (65 percent), headache (61 percent) and
sore throat (46 percent). Another scary detail is that the virus spread quickly, with everyone contracting the virus after less than a week at camp—despite the fact that all 597 campers and staff members were forced to prove that they had tested negative for the virus prior to arrival. The report also reveals that while staff members were required to wear masks, the children were not. "Asymptomatic infection was common and potentially contributed to undetected transmission, as has been previously reported," the CDC wrote. "This investigation adds to the body of evidence demonstrating that children of all ages are susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection and, contrary to early reports, might play an important role in transmission." The Camp Failed to Adhere to Mitigation Strategies The CDC was also quick to point out that the camp failed to adhere to the health organizations "mitigation strategies," noting that campers weren't required to wear masks, cabins were not aired out, and "daily vigorous singing and shouting" could have exacerbated the spread. "Physical distancing and consistent and correct use of cloth masks should be emphasized as important strategies for mitigating transmission in congregate settings," they concluded. The whole city was shaken by the explosion and a mushroom cloud could be seen spreading over the port area.
