BARROW
IS A FRAUD... So says the FTC
Mr. Barrow, Prime Minister of Belize, and the man who is firmly in the sights of the very powerful Federal Trade Commission (FTC), did the only thing he could possibly do at a press conference called at the Princess Ramada on Wednesday afternoon. He denied everything that was alleged by the FTC in a scathing 50-page Court document. He denied, and blustered, and at various points was careful to appear violated and put upon by the dastardly FTC – yet, at no point, did the Prime Minister go so far as to say that the FTC lied. In fact, after he had, almost at the point of tears lamented about the damage to his ‘good’ name and reputation, and the damage done by extension to his government, Mr. Barrow was asked if he would be taking legal action against the FTC. To that query, the Master of Litiga-

tion responded, “No sir, I will not tangle with the FTC. No sir...if I never hear the name FTC again in my life, I will be an extremely happy man. The Belize Times would be willing to place a very big wager on a bet that the Prime Minister, in addition to likely seeing the FTC in his nightmares, will be in very close proximity to elements of the FTC for some time to come, and not proximity that will pleasure him. The press conference on Wednesday was hurriedly called after the 50page legal document filed in a Florida Court on June 10 by the FTC made its rounds of the media. That document, which was a bombshell that rocked the government on its already shaky

BARROW
IS A FRAUD... Continued from page 1 foundation, formed a part of the FTC’s opposition to Atlantic International Bank Limited’s application for bankruptcy proceedings to be heard in Belize. That 50page lashing of the PM, members of his Cabinet and other assorted political cronies was enough to wake Mr. Barrow from his Rip Van Winkle type slumber. In the lengthy indictment of the government, Prime Minister Barrow, his law firm Barrow and Williams and assorted cronies and officials in Cabinet and in the highest ranks of AIBL, the FTC painted a picture that the Government and its Central Bank, AIBL and the principals of Sanctuary Bay who spearheaded the scam and defrauded investors of over $100MILLION, were all in bed together. In fact, the document speaks of the Prime Minister meeting with the principal of Sanctuary Bay when it was already known that this principal was a man of very questionable character. The document goes further to claim that the impression coming out of that meeting and others was that somehow Prime Minister Barrow owed Sanctuary Bay for his popularity. The document even suggest that Barrow may own land in Sanctuary bay, and that his law partner, Rodwell Williams, owns two parcels in the shady development. What a thing. Readers will remember when UDP Senator and AIBL attorney Aldo Salazar was stopped in the US as he passed through, and allegedly questioned by the FTC. Salazar had denied the report, claiming that it was a routine Customs stop. Well the FTC has come out plainly to accuse Salazar of acting with AIBL to facilitate the Sanctuary Bay scam. In a nutshell, the FTC is asking that AIBL’s application be heard in a US Court and not in Belize, because the government of Belize and the Prime Minister cannot be trusted, and the rights of all the American nationals defrauded by the principals in Sanctuary Bay, clients of Barrow and Williams, would not be safeguarded. Mr. Barrow can bluster all he likes, but the fact that he would not go on record to claim that the FTC lied in the application to the Florida Court is an indictment in itself. The Prime Minister can go on the stage to an audience in Belize, and twirl and pirouette all he likes, but the country has gotten another major black eye, thanks to the man who entered his terms of leadership, double-sided machete in hand, and, then, promptly lost the machete and any will to do anything about the corruption at the highest levels of his administration. This FTC thing will not go away. Mr. Barrow knows well why he will not sue the FTC. And he knows well why he cannot state, on the record that the FTC lied in that document. The truth will come to light. Some people it will free, and others it will imprison. Wait for it.

SSB $600K INVESTMENT After the 2019, 2020, 2021 announced increase to SSB contributions, it is difficult to fathom how the Social Security Board (SSB) could be investing in questionable projects which do NOT seem destined as propoor nor pro-economic upliftment of a Belize thirsty for savvy economic growth. Adding insult to this questionable move, the Medical Council that is receiving $600,000 AND is headed by mint-new Chief at the Health Ministry and UDP crony George Gough of who has medical malpractice court rulings against
him. The only thing that could be said is that since he is not competent in his field that he is venturing into the building of Auditoriums. Definitely other Auditoriums like the Civic Centre, SCA, BES, Swift and others are welcoming the competition from an investment using the People’s money. Was it not the SSB crying out loud that the actuarial advice was that they needed to get higher contributions of else the SSB could fold? The public would like to know how
this money is going to be paid back since on the face of it this is just a sweet heart offering to UDP cronies who are having some dream of moving away from the medical field which helps other Belizean people. Is it coincidence that it is an 11-year loan just as long as the age of a known corrupt lame duck administration? According to popular consent, this duck will milk the Belizean coffers dry in an effort to prove that FIVE YEARS DAH FIVE YEARS as corrupt as it may be. Saga or no saga. Why does the Medical Council need a multi -purpose building...how will they it back? What revenue streams do they have in order to pay the loan. We have the civic centre that doesn’t have enough use to pay back for d maintenance much less for d investment. Butwho is d president of d medical council...George Gough...who was Chairman of NHI at d SSB and now CEO
Woman Murdered; Son Stabbed; Oh My!! There is public outcry after the news broke on Tuesday that the body of a 23 year old, Yanira Novelo of San Jose Village OW and mother of two (2) was found in a cane field after her 4 year old son was found wondering on a feeder road located in Orange Walk. According to reports the passerby who found the child said that he was coming from his farm located about 5 miles away from San Lorenzo housing site when he saw the little boy walking by himself on the San Lorenzo Road, Orange Walk. He said the child told him that his mother was being held hostage by some men on a farm located on the
same road where he managed to escape. He had been stabbed and the wound indicated glass. He was taken to Northern Regional Hospital for treatment. Investigations have revealed that Novelo and her son went to a Western Union office located in Orange Walk to conduct a transaction. It was when they exited they were allegedly kidnapped by some men. On Tuesday, sometime after 11am, a search party consisting of police officers and family members found her body lying face down in a cane field with multiple stab wounds to the chest area. All this horrifying ordeal occurred on her son’s fourth birthday.
DRUG CARTEL BOSS WITH BELIZEAN PASSPORT We in Belize do not follow writing our names using our father’s surname along with our mother’s maiden name. In Mexico, Juan whose middle name is Ulises would have a mother whose surname is Carmona. Or is it? How can a Sinaloa Drug operator who was gunned on Thursday June 4 in Chetumal, Mexico have a Belizean passport? “El Buda,” was shot directly to the head at a micro store named El Caracol which is just across the avenue from Fiesta Inn hotel. El Buda not only had connections with the Sinaloa Cartel, but in 2012, he was arrested along with associates of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Originally from the Mexican state of Oaxaca, he led a criminal group with picking up cocaine shipments coming from Central and South America. He relocated to Chetumal just before Easter this year and then engaged in money laundering. “El Buda” is a very well-known drug trafficker with a well-known past so it should be alarming that he can have our Belizean passport while holding Guatemalan and Mexican citizenships as well. Are there other instances of this? Who is involved? This rings horribly of corruption at a department should know better since over the years been involved in mishandling of our sacred birth right and gotten into trouble repeatedly—almost recidivist.

This is another shock to our nation that refuses to give in and believe that crime rules. We should and do NOT think that this is normal. Criminals are not the majority. We nevertheless need a major change is everything being done. We need better economic opportunities. We need a better chance at living a full life. Nothing will return the life of this child to normalcy (whatever that is). The powers that be should attempt to help bring closure and make his life better from now on. What are the odds?

RED LEGACY
he Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD) categorizes that there has been a conflict of interest when “a public official has private capacity interests which could improperly influence the performance of their official duties and responsibilities.” Serving in public office and the public service comes with many responsibilities and obligations. Integrity for one; the proper use of funds, resources, powers and assets for official purposes has been utterly lost if it ever existed in the decayed conscience of this depraved bunch. Time and again Belizeans have been witness to the recklessness and impunity with which current government and public officials act. This latest installment in the Sanctuary Bay Saga is just more evidence of what can happen when you have narcissistic leaders at the helm. It is not difficult to recognize the clear conflict of interest that exists when Senator Aldo Salazar was and continues to be the attorney for AIBL. His very personal and private interests are unquestionably at odds with his public office. The Senator surely comprehends this as a member of the legal profession and it is anyone’s guess as to why he has not buckled under the weight of the public shame and humiliation and voluntarily resigned from the Upper House. The recent disappearance of Dr. Figueroa from the MOH gives a glimmer of hope that at least some hold the value of integrity in higher regard than financial rewards. It is the appointment of the new CEO that again gives Belizeans pause. The new CEO is a practicing physician who owns a medical facility. We cannot be sure that he will put his own personal interests above that of the publics’. It seems that there is a revolving door at the MOH and those that do not conform to the modus operandi are not likely to be allowed to remain. It is very likely that they have finally found, in the newly appointed CEO, a person that fits the bill. Conflicts of interest prelude corruption. The story of how Gapi Vega used his public power to favour his son Andre Vega caused the defrauding of the public purse to the tune of four hundred thousand dollars is just one of many instances. There have been many instances of alleged abuse of power and misuse of public office in this current GOB. Long have there been rumours that officials and their spouses at the MOH are silent partners in a pharmaceuticals company that is a provider to the public health system. It is the same story behind the way in which infrastructure projects are awarded to a select few. These conflicts of interest are evident in the way in which members of the FIU are switched and interchanged with the Central Bank. These errors are what allowed scammers to circumvent the procedures and protocols that prevent fraud and money laundering. Another example of the interrelationship is Anwar Borrow, who has been CEO of BTL and was also on the SSB who owns quite a bit of shares in BTL. And let’s not forget Net Vasquez who is the Chairman of BTL and Chairman of the Investment Committee of the SSB (who have shares in SSB bought while he was Chairman of both organizations). It is quite a shame really. The PM who once boasted about his three-term stint in power has since mellowed. He is quite the toothless tiger these days, and growls only when cornered. He does not have much to boast about these days and he seems to have gone nose-blind because the “whiff of corruption” no matter how nefarious no longer bothers him. He will go down in the history annals of Belize as he wished. History will chronicle the infamy, corruption and dishonor with which he and his bunch of merry bandits served only themselves while in government. That finally will be the Red Devil’s only legacy, to be remembered in perpetuity as the PM who buried Belize in despair, debt and dishonor.

QUESTIONS TO THE MINISTERS 1. Will the Prime Minister please say if during his press conference he was saying that the FTC attorneys were lying when they said that he met with Pukke and his Associates, and that many connections exists between Barrow’s Government and Sanctuary Bay Enterprise? 2. Will the Prime Minister also say if he disputes the statement by the FTC attorneys that the Government of Belize turned a “blind eye” to evidence of “massive fraud” at the development? 3. Will the Prime Minister please say why the government would sit with the liquidator of Atlantic International Bank to discuss the agreement with the FTC and if, in so doing, the government is not putting the FTC above depositors’ claims, which would then be a clear violation of Belizean law? 4. Will the Prime Minister state for the record if he is aware of any other bank packing up and leaving Belize in the near future? 5. Will the Minister of Immigration please inform the Belizean people if Juan Ulises Galván Carmona aka Ed Buda was granted Belizean Nationality and will the Minister of State Beverley Castillo please say how Ed Buda, arrested on drug trafficking charges, could be in possession of a Belize passport?

06 6 KHMHA: NO PENSION SCHEME
THE BELIZE TIMES
Just when you believe that by working at the largest hospital in Belize you are set; you feel that this job is a keeper. One usually feels that way about a job when you feel that you will work there for a few decades and ride into the sunset in a dignified financially. Lo and behold! Nope! There is no Pension scheme at the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital. According to report, the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital Authority (KHMA) have stated that they cannot even agree to pay it since it would be illegal under their regulations. So now, in this country you cannot ‘talk bad’ about a scammer like Pukke/Baker/ Chadwick but to pay pension to hard workers it is illegal. SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS. Purportedly at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, that staff members got to their boiling point after they were told that the KHMHA cannot legally pay pension. The staff learnt of this situation by way of an internal memorandum dated June 28. The memo was issued after the authority engaged in a process of
clarifying its pension obligations. It stated that after legal clarification of both the KHMHA Act and Pensions Act, they, the KHMA informs that pension payments are only payable by the government. The memo asserts that pension is paid to “public officers” on retirement from public service. Additionally, persons hired independently by the authority would therefore not fall within the ‘persons entitled to a pension.’ It is easily to understand the level of vexation by employees who thought they were public servants and working to a pension. The question is, how have previous retiring employess been treated? What was their final hurrah like? For example, would a CEO walk away with nothing also after working for a few years at the KHMH? The KHMHA said later that it would be paying employee benefits from a Hospital’s Provident Fund which was established in 2017. But is this a Pension? C.E.O. BELLY of the
BEAST
A/C Malfunction Reports reaching the Belize Times are that the Ministry of Finance has refused to pay for the room they used at the Ramada for the PM’s press briefing this week. They claim that the A/C wasn’t working. We are told that the Ramada management has tested the A/C system and have found that it is working fine, and they are suggesting to Government that there must be some other explanation for why the AIBL liquidator, Julian Murillo, was nothing but a puddle of sweat during the conference. Murillo is known to be a cool cat, but he was sweating like a pig as he stood in front of the nation yesterday to say that everything between the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and AIBL is just honky-dory. According to Murillo, and the PM, the settlement is a done deal, but not a done deal, if you know what I mean. In Barrow-speak, we have settled, but they haven’t, not yet. LOL. If you think this one is done, think again. The FTC isn’t playing, and both Murillo and the PM know that they are way out of their league. Bombs on Barrow If you are one of those Belizeans who believes the words that were coming out of the Prime Minister’s mouth at the conference, we’d like to sell you tickets to an excursion to the Moon planned for next week, leaving from the Radisson pier. The FTC did not go after Mr. Barrow for no reason. This entity which has investigated some of the biggest scams of all time didn’t just decide one day to write down a list of lies about the PM, and his law partner, and the UDP Senator, and AIBL. The Prime Minister did what he had to do – he denied, denied and denied again. He made the FTC, with some of the top investigators in the world, out to be nothing but a bunch of irresponsible clowns out to get him, and by extension his law firm and Cabinet. But listen carefully. It’s not so much what the Prime Minister said as what he did not say. He stopped short of saying the FTC lied. He never said that. And there’s another thing. If everything the FTC said about Mr. Barrow was a lie, then why isn’t he suing? More questions than answers. And this isn’t done by a long shot. Poor Aldo We hear UDP Senator Aldo Salazar has been calling around to media houses too, trying to do his own spin after Mr. Barrow threw him under the bus at the press conference. Because the FTC had quite a bit to say about this former Atlantic Bank attorney turned UDP Senator turned AIBL legal advisor. It’s clear the FTC has set their sights on Senator Salazar, and we hear from close friends that he won’t be travelling to the US, or even passing through the US anytime soon. We don’t blame you, Senator. We know you are a fanatic when it comes to those weekly manicures and pedicures. We’re not sure they offer that service in the US penitentiary, but we’re sure that cute as you are, you’d be able to get quite a few full body rubs and massages. Sad There is a lot to cry over in this nation, but we end this week’s column pleading for justice in the savage murder of a young woman, a mother of two from the Orange Walk District. She was kidnapped, along with her 4 year old son. He was stabbed but managed to escape, while she was stabbed multiple times and strangled to death before being thrown into a cane-field. Our country has become unrecognizable. Crime is out of control. The only thing that is predictable is that from time to time the Minister of National Insecurity will get up with his fat self and say all is well. Belizeans are tired of the killing. Families are being torn apart. Mr. Minister, we know this young woman isn’t an American tourist, so she doesn’t matter to your government, but please, Sir, could you take a break from the photo opportunities, and from hanging out with your friends and try to deal with the crime? If it’s not too much trouble? Please…? ‘Special’ Envoy And by special, we mean really ‘special.’ At the Belize Times, we don’t have a fundamental problem with Kim Simplis Barrow. She is unimportant in the scheme of things. We recognized a long time ago that she is about the glamour life, and about travelling all over the world. She loves being called the First Lady, even though she must understand that she really isn’t. The First Lady would be the wife of the Governor-General. But let’s not quibble over that. Our issue with the ‘Special’ Envoy is that she doesn’t get it. The other day a homosexual Police officer was in a situation in which we feel he was unjustly treated by his fellow officers. Simplis Barrow was on point with a release in condemnation. No problem with that. But then this young woman is brutalized, and murdered –and NOTHING. Her four-year old son was stabbed – and NOTHING. And it’s not the first time. Other innocents have been killed, slaughtered – and NOTHING. Women have been raped, dehumanized – and NOTHING. We don’t support that. We understand it, of course. Simplis Barrow is enamoured of the US, and the Embassy here is pro-LGBTQ. Again, no problem with that. But if you are going to do a job, do it well.

THE BELIZE TIMES
THINK ABOUT IT O NO! ANOTHER BARROW SCANDAL It is written, whom the God’s wish to destroy, they first make mad. Can we be allowed a little phrase tampering and rewrite, whom the Gods wish to destroy, they first make corrupt. Here comes another major scandal. And Dean Barrow is right smack in the middle. While the BTL 29 million dollars GST non-payment was a bomb, this latest one is a political massacre. A court document has blownup in the Prime Minister’s face. It is riddled with allegations of corruption and name calling of Ministers and some political cronies. This document was submitted to the United States of America Court in Florida on 10th June, 2019. It is the product of the US Federal Trade Commission. It has to do with their years of investigation into what the US F.T.C. says is one of the biggest scams in their history. Did you hear that- the Biggest! And it has to do with our battered Belize – victim of political corruption, financial corruption and greed. Of additional interest is this note at the top of page 4, to the effect that Atlantic International Bank was such that Americans could do their investments with the bank and the Belize government would not tax the investment because there was no business being done in Belize. So let’s ask this, who were the lousy or worthless or corrupt Ministers who allowed such a huge multimillion dollar project to escape paying taxes?. And second question, was there a big kick back to the Minister or Ministers who saved the gangsters from paying taxes to Belize? There arises another question, BTL is accused of not paying 29 million dollars in taxes. These millions were kept by BTL and not paid to government. where have all these millions gone ?. Prime Minister you have a lot of questions to answer. And your fake press conference only highlighted how devious and deceptive you are. THIS GIRL IS ON FIRE When Alicia Keys sat at her piano and started creating the lyrics and the music for her song, she must have been thinking of someone like Wendy. The song- “This Girl Is On Fire” is how it sounded on Wednesday morning 10th July, 2019. Wendy was on the PUP radio/TV station with Vaughan Gill. They were burning Dean Barrow down. Wendy apparently googled the Florida court and got her hands on the documents for Sanctuary Be-
lize and the alleged dirt therein. She did her homework. She was on target. She was focused. Dean Barrow got arrow after arrow in his chest. Not a single shot missed. Wendy at one point, her voice a sharp sword dripping with anger, referred to Barrow quickly jumping up at the last meeting of the House of Representatives to try to silence Kareem Musa for raising Atlantic International Bank and Sanctuary scandal. She said Barrow didn’t jump up against crime, He did not jump up against poverty, or the sad state of affairs in education, or for the youths on the streets, or unemployment, or on behalf of the peasants who are suffering (Wow!). But he was quick to jump up, ignoring his bad back, eager to defend Sanctuary and Atlantic International Bank. Then she fired more shots – asking why? Why? This was powerful stuff. Wendy was not acting. The emotion, the anger was real. When she opened the telephone line, the calls came flooding in. The dull PUP have found a female spokeswoman. Warrior from Nakanda. Johnny that girl is on fire. WHERE ARE ALL THE GRADUATES Thousands of graduates have poured out of primary school, high
school and Sixth Forms. Many will not be continuing their education (although they should. But can’t afford). Where will all these graduates go? Where will all these flowers grow? They have nowhere to go. Donald Trump doesn’t want them and Dean Barrow has no jobs for them. It must be frustrating to be a college or Sixth Form graduate and cannot find a job. It must be real disappointing. And this is the most hurtful part. The young people listen to their parents and go to college and Sixth form but when they graduate, the cronies and flunkies, UDP retirees have jobs that should be available. Life in Belize under the UDP government is so unfair. NICH CAN DO MORE Nich means the National Institute for Culture and History. Recently Mr. Edward “Bunny” Panting passed away. He was in his nineties. He lived an illustrious and adventurous life. He was one of many Belizean labourers who worked on the Panama Canal and survived. He knows of many Belizean personalities and occurrences. His history and experiences went with him in the grave. There are not many “old-timers”
2019 still with us. We are losing our history one person at a time. Here is a thought. NICH should employ on a temporary basis, a dozen sixth form students or graduates with the correct aptitudes. One dozen per district and three dozen for Belize district. Their task: use the voters list and solicit calls from citizens to find senior citizens. Once located the Sixth Formers will arrange interviews of their background, their parents, their experiences and everything of historic and cultural values that they recall. We need to document and preserve our history and our culture. These interviews can be shown on Belizean TV. The way Krem and Belizean To Da Bone try to educate us. NICH needs some fire.

Where are our Children safe? Back in the day it would be a rare occurrence whereby a young child was the victim of gun violence, robbery or kidnapping. In today’s society, all that has changed and it seems as if though it is unsafe to send our children to the corner store or even being out in the company of a parent. Today, there is public outcry after the news broke that the body of, Yadira Novelo, 23 years old, was found thrown in a cane field. Her body was seen with what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. What was even more heart-wrenching was that her four year old son who was in her company earlier that day was found wondering on a feeder road in San Lorenzo, Orange Walk. He too was seen with a single stab wound near the stomach. What threat could a four year old pose to an adult to warrant such harm? Did he witness his mother being stabbed multiple times? What made him decide to leave the area and walk the deserted road alone while in pain? How does a child at the age of 4 make such decisions? On Sunday, July 7th, a young teenage boy was held up at gun point while shopping inside a
centrally located store in Corozal Town. While he was left traumatized by the ordeal, he was fortunate that he did not suffer any life altering physical injuries as did Kyron Green, 11 year old, student. Green went to the corner grocery store located on the Boulevard, Belize City, to purchase some items for his mother on, May 17th, 2019. He was inside the grocery store along with other patrons when a gunman opened fire at a man who was also inside the store. Young Kyron was shot to the face and has since had to struggle for his life and there is yet hope that he may walk again. These are trying times in our society and keeping our children safe may be one of the most difficult task as a parent. It is even more distressing when there is little that the government is doing to curb all this. If the government is asked they will say that they have no hand in crime. They would deny all responsibility. But if there is a little dip in a skewed unemployment rate, it is the government at work. NO! That is not acceptable anymore. Our society is hurting and the hemorrhaging is real.///

A Peasant Movement “A peasant movement is a social movement traced to numerous uprisings throughout the world and goes back to early human history” (Wikipedia, 2019). When the Prime Minister of this country called Hon. Julius Espat a PEASANT in the House of Representative, it was the beginning of the end not only of the Prime Minister but also of the United Democratic Party. Belize is a country that has a lot of people who live in rural areas and depend on the land as a life choice. Their ancestors did it; traditions are passed down from generation to generation; and it is considered a blessing. The countless tourists that flock to this country every year or the people moving here to call it home know the story all too well. Beating the citizens of this country with their own humbleness and charisma as the beating stick speaks volumes of the person uttering the words rather than the individuals he attempted to direct it at. There has been a complete loss of what the definition of being an Area Representative is in this country and the purpose; this country has not seen good governance since 2008 when this current set of people took office. They see themselves as being above the masses—not normal people—and inheriting their current position by right. The Prime Minister of this country flies out every 2 weeks to seek first class medical attention abroad; the peasants have to do without an ultrasound machine, have no morgue for their loved ones, and villages spread across this country without even a health center. When, the Prime Minister’s son wears $500.00US Gucci shoes and the peasants wear rubber boots because of the inundated roads. When, the Prime Minister’s other son drives Mercedes Benz on the fancy streets in LA and the peasants drive pickups put together from scrap yards to drive to the market on picado roads. When, the Prime Minister’s wife and daughter vacation in the Mediterranean and other parts of Europe for the summer holidays the young peasant adults and kids do summer jobs to help their parents buy school supplies and put food on the table. This is not the first time we have seen this elite Prime Minister and his cabinet choosing themselves and their own over the common people or in his words PEASANTS. Over the past three weeks we have seen a humble and quiet revolution. Belizeans have never been the type of people that resort to civil unrest, and most of the time try to give someone the benefit of the doubt. However; they have had enough, and they are showing it in the last three village council elections. Like our ancestors used to say: “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”. After not being able to fulfill the role handed to them; after demeaning the intelligence of people; after looking only their own interest rather than that of the people they were elected to serve, the peasants have had enough. Name-calling is proven to be linked to feeling insecure and desperate; there seems to be a feeling of incompetence after failing time and time again by the current Prime Minister. This was the last insult and slap to the face!!! Let’s continue with this easy-going, constructive and successful peasant revolt of voting the UDP out of government. A proud PEASANT!!! #proudpeasant

Bribery and Crown prince Superman By Gilroy Usher, Sr. Superman, the anointed selfish Crown prince, is now seeking national office in the Port. He has admitted that shortly before the 2015 general election he sold out the people of Albert by accepting a cash bribe to end his candidacy for higher office in the division. In a Facebook comment on the matter Brain “Yellow Man” Lord said. “Nobody care bout that. That tha noh Belize.” Is that really true? Bribery – the act of giving or receiving something of value in exchange for some kind of influence or action in return that the recipient would otherwise not offer. A bribe is the gift bestowed to influence the recipient’s conduct. - Wikipedia In deciding on any governing matter it is the duty of every Member of Parliament or person seeking such office to put the interest of the people and country first, even if they are offered big money to do otherwise. Bribery is one of the worst forms of corruption. It is one of the main reasons why thousands of persons in Belize and others countries continue to live in a cycle of poverty. With this graft the interest of the people is sold out daily by a number of unscrupulous ministers and their cronies for a few dollars . One of the reasons the government doesn’t collect millions of dollars in revenue annually from certain business is because crooked politicians accept cash bribes to prevent tax examiners from auditing their books properly. The country also loses millions of dollars in bribes when unscrupulous ministers ensure that bloated contracts for roads, large buildings, and supplies among other things are approved. Those millions of dollars that are lost every fiscal year due to the acceptance of bribes by persons whom the people entrusted with power at the municipal or national level, are funds that belong to the people. Those are monies that could have been used to address the terrible crime situation and other major social problems that continue to plague and undermine the development of our society on a daily basis. Due to its severe toll on the development of a nation, the penalty of accepting a bribe in most countries is very stiff with approved legislation and total loss of public confidence. For instance, in the UK if an individual is found guilty of a bribery offence, they will be imprisoned for up to 12 months and fined up to 5,000 pounds. Someone found guilty on indictment, however, faces up to 10 years imprisonment and an unlimited fine. The penalty is even worst for politicians in the UK and other democratic countries except Belize in recent years. Once any politician acknowledges that he accepted a bribe or is convicted of a

bribery offence apart from heavy fines and prison time his political career over, finished from the leader of the country down. Guatemala’s ex-president Otto Perez in currently serving time in prison for corruption. Bribery is one of the fastest growing vices in Belize. The government of the day only pays lip service to the fight against that political cancer. This administration has a record of protecting corrupt Ministers and their cronies who have become wealthy from the proceeds of massive corruption including bribery.
When a whistle blower explained to the media how a Minister gave him a few dollars every month to funnel over $200,000.00 to him monthly as a fake contractor for government houses, the administration did absolutely nothing to bring the guilty parties to justice. And when it was discovered recently that a number of Ministers and other high government officials were offering persons bribes to facilitate their illegal sale of thousands of Belizean passports not a single one of the guilty persons was penalized for their outrageous and unlawful doings. Why is Superman being treated differently for his know bribery offence? Is it because King Boots has anointed Superman as his Crown Prince? Corruption is one of the main reasons why the last PUP government was voted out of office. This administration has proven itself to be the mother of corruption in Belize. How have they gotten many of our people to accept and
worship corrupt politicians like Clear the Land, Superman, and Vega among others when those persons, only think of themselves? What kind of example are we setting for the youths of this country with honesty and integrity? How can we even think of replacing corrupt King Boots with his anointed one, Crown Prince Superman, who is even more corrupt? It’s this UDP administration’s sanction of bribery and other forms of corruption in government that embolden Yellow Man to make his outrageous and frightening comment above on Facebook. The Crown prince’s sellout of his candidacy in Albert for a cash bribe is proof that he can be easily manipulated once the money is right and cannot be relied on to stand up for the interest of Belizeans anywhere once his asking price is met. A leopard never changes its spots.
PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Central Bank of Belize Responds to Allegations Regarding Sanctuary Belize Belize City, 10 July 2019: The Central Bank of Belize is aware of allegations that it knew of and failed to act properly with regard to matters concerning the real estate development Sanctuary Belize. These claims were made on 10 June 2019 by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in response to the Liquidator of Atlantic International Bank Limited’s (AIBL) application for bankruptcy protection in a United States Bankruptcy Court in Florida. The Central Bank categorically rejects these allegations and reaffirms its commitment to safeguard the health of the financial system and protect the pegged foreign exchange rate. Wherever required, the Central Bank does consider applications by any individual, including Sanctuary Belize, involving non-residents because of the foreign exchange regulations the Central Bank is charged with administering. With regard to this development, the Central Bank ultimately froze the few Sanctuary Belize-related applications submitted for Central Bank’s consent for transfer of land title pursuant to Section 40 of the Exchange Control Regulations Act, Revised Edition 2011. Allegations of impropriety by real estate developers whether pertaining to the actual transaction or the issuance of land documents are the domain of civil courts and law enforcement authorities. The FTC’s claim also referenced a specific email between principals of the Central Bank and the Financial Intelligence Unit. This email was an informal message regarding ongoing disputes between Sanctuary Belize investors and without any evidence of the alleged fraud. The Central Bank reiterates its unwavering commitment to the continued effective oversight of the Belize financial system and the protection of the pegged foreign exchange rate. ### OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR, Gabourel Lane Belize City Phone: 223-6194 Email: governor@centralbank.org.bz Website: www.centralbank.org.bz
